Abstract
Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims priority to Chinese Patent Application No. 202410498562.7, filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration on April 23, 2024 and entitled "WAKE-UP METHOD AND APPARATUS", which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] This application relates to the field of wireless communication technologies, and in particular, to a wake-up method and an apparatus. BACKGROUND
[0003] Conventional Internet of things devices usually need to be equipped with batteries to ensure stable power supply. However, limited battery lives greatly increase operation and maintenance costs of Internet of things networks. Especially in extreme environmental conditions, network operation maintenance and battery replacement are quite challenging. Moreover, about billions of batteries are discarded every year, and a small part of the batteries may be effectively recycled. In addition, with the worldwide growth of the quantity of Internet of things devices, the quantity of discarded batteries is also increasing, severely affecting the Earth's ecosystem. To resolve the problem, battery-free Internet of things communication is proposed. This can not only improve network performance and sustainability, but also significantly reduce device sizes and costs by removing batteries from the devices, thereby supporting various emerging applications. Besides, battery-free devices are more environmentally friendly and safer for children and the elderly. Due to wide deployment and use of unlicensed frequency bands, Wi-Fi technologies have become strong competitors in Internet of things network deployment. However, existing Wi-Fi Internet of things technologies still cannot satisfy increasing application requirements. First, in extreme environmental conditions (for example, high voltages, extremely high / low temperatures, damp environments), conventional battery-powered devices may not operate normally. Second, many use cases require maintenance-free devices (for example, replacing conventional batteries is not required or not possible). Finally, some use cases require ultra-low complexity, very small device sizes (for example, a thickness of a few millimeters), longer life cycles, and the like.
[0004] An ambient power (ambient power, AMP)-based Wi-Fi Internet of things technology has broad prospects, allowing battery-free implementations and satisfying requirements of various vertical industries. Such battery-free AMP devices depend on energy harvesting (energy harvesting) for running. Energy sources include radio waves, light (solar light), motion, heat, and the like. In addition, a simple waveform design is used to reduce complexity and power consumption (typical peak power may be less than 1 mW). The combination of AMP and Wi-Fi technologies can implement new Internet of things services and expand the entire Wi-Fi ecosystem.
[0005] The IEEE 802.11ba standard defines physical layer (PHY) and media access control (MAC) specifications for wake-up radio (wake-up radio, WUR). In a MAC layer design of the standard, a STA may enter an energy saving mode of a WUR mode (mode), and an access point (access point, AP) AP provides a corresponding service for the STA, for example, wake-up or synchronization, to ensure that the STA can normally run in the WUR mode.
[0006] However, these specifications only supports WUR operations between the AP and the STA. Therefore, in the AMP-based Wi-Fi technology, communication between different devices is a problem that is being studied by persons skilled in the art. SUMMARY
[0007] This application provides a wake-up method and an apparatus, to improve communication procedures between different devices, and provide useful information for wakeup operations and power transfer.
[0008] According to a first aspect, a wake-up method is provided. The method may be executed by an energizer station, or may be executed by a chip / chip system or a functional module disposed in an energizer station. In the method, the energizer station sends a first request frame to an access point, where the first request frame includes parameter request information, the parameter request information is for requesting the access point to allocate a parameter of a first wake-up mode to the energizer station, and the first wake-up mode includes a point-to-point wakeup mode, a point-to-multipoint wake-up mode, or a broadcast wake-up mode. The energizer station receives a first response frame from the access point, where the first response frame includes first parameter information of the first wake-up mode allocated by the access point.
[0009] Based on this solution, the energizer station can request, using the first request frame, the access point to allocate a parameter of the point-to-point wake-up mode, the point-to-multipoint wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode, to provide useful information for subsequent wake-up operations and power transfer operations. The energizer station can perform WUR operations with an ambient power station using the parameter allocated by the access point. In addition, that the access point allocates the parameter can avoid a problem caused by noncommunication between stations in different basic service sets, and improve communication reliability.
[0010] In a possible implementation, the first request frame includes a first identifier of an ambient power station, the first identifier is for the access point to identify the ambient power station, the first parameter information includes a second identifier of the ambient power station in the first wake-up mode, and the second identifier is for identifying the ambient power station in the first wake-up mode.
[0011] Based on this solution, the access point can identify the ambient power station using the first identifier, to avoid allocating different second identifiers to the same ambient power station. In addition, that the access point allocates the second identifier of the ambient power station can avoid identifier conflicts between different basic service sets.
[0012] In a possible implementation, the parameter request information includes channel request information of the first wake-up mode, and the first parameter information includes first channel information of the first wake-up mode.
[0013] In a possible implementation, the first parameter information further includes channel offset information, and the channel offset information indicates an offset between a channel carrying a wake-up frame of the first wake-up mode and a channel indicated by the first channel information.
[0014] Based on this solution, the access point can allocate a channel for a wake-up operation, and that the access point allocates the channel for the wake-up operation can reduce channel congestion.
[0015] In a possible implementation, the first wake-up mode is the point-to-multipoint wakeup mode, the parameter request information includes group identifier request information of the point-to-multipoint wake-up mode, and the first parameter information includes group identifier information of the point-to-multipoint wake-up mode.
[0016] Based on this solution, in this embodiment of this application, point-to-multipoint wake-up operations can be supported, and useful information can be provided for subsequent wake-up operations using the group identifier information, so that the energizer station wakes up ambient power stations in one group based on the group identifier information. In addition, that the access point allocates the group identifier information can also avoid identifier conflicts between different basic service sets.
[0017] In a possible implementation, the parameter request information further includes a quantity of requested group identifier information, the first parameter information includes one or more pieces of group identifier information, and the quantity of the one or more pieces of group identifier information satisfies the quantity included in the parameter request information.
[0018] Based on this solution, in this embodiment of this application, the energizer station can group one ambient power station into one or more groups, so that grouping of ambient power stations is more flexible, and different groups can be distinguished using group identifier information.

In addition, that the access point allocates an identifier of the energizer station can avoid identifier conflicts between different basic service sets.
[0021] In a possible implementation, the first parameter information further includes a duty cycle start time of the first wake-up mode. Based on this solution, the duty cycle start time can avoid a frame conflict of the energizer station.

Certainly, embodiments of this application may be alternatively applicable to another possible communication system, for example, a long term evolution (long term evolution, LTE) communication system, an LTE frequency division duplex (frequency division duplex, FDD) communication system, an LTE time division duplex (time division duplex, TDD) communication system, a universal mobile telecommunications system (universal mobile telecommunications system, UMTS), a worldwide interoperability for microwave access (worldwide interoperability for microwave access, WiMAX) communication system, a 5th generation (5th generation, 5G) communication system, or a future evolved communication system (for example, a 6th generation (6th generation, 6G) communication system).
[00103] Currently, WLAN applications based on the IEEE 802.11 technologies have been deployed in many market segments, including the conventional consumer electronics market and the booming Internet of things market. To reduce deployment, operation, and maintenance costs of wireless fidelity (wireless fidelity, Wi-Fi) Internet of things, the IEEE 802.11 Working Group is discussing an Internet of things device that supports energy harvesting. This new project is named the ambient power (ambient power, AMP) project, and the Internet of things device may also be referred to as an AMP device. Radio frequency (radio frequency, RF) wireless power transfer (wireless power transfer, WPT) is introduced into the AMP device, so that a capacitor supporting RF WPT can be used to replace a conventional battery, thereby resolving a bottleneck caused by the conventional battery. The AMP device may satisfy one or more of the following features:
[00104] (1) There is at least one data communication mode in a sub (sub)-1 GHz frequency band.
[00105] (2) There is at least one data communication mode in a 2.4 GHz frequency band, and a communication access category (access category, AC) is set to a background (background, AC_BK).
[00106] (3) There is at least one WPT mode in the sub-1 GHz frequency band, indicating RF energy harvesting (energy harvesting);
[00107] AMP application scenarios include but are not limited to smart homes, smart farms, smart factories, logistics / warehousing, mall / supermarket delivery, indoor positioning, or data centers.
[00108] An AMP-based Wi-Fi Internet of things technology has broad prospects, allowing battery-free implementations and satisfying requirements of various vertical industries.
[00109] As an important function of AMP devices, energy harvesting still faces many challenges, such as extremely unstable ways of harvesting ambient power, excessively low efficiency of energy harvesting from the environment. To address these problems, a topology structure including an AMP-specific charging device "energizer (Energizer)" is proposed in a meeting of the IEEE 802.11 AMP SG, as shown in FIG. 1.
[00110] FIG. 1 is a diagram of a communication system according to an embodiment of this application. The communication system shown in this embodiment of this application relates to wake-up of one AMP station (station, STA) by one energizer, or may be extended to relating to wake-up of one non-access point station (non-access point station, non-AP STA) by another nonAP STA of any type. The system shown in FIG. 1 includes one AP, one AMP STA, and one energizer. The AP is separately associated with the AMP STA or the energizer. The AP may separately communicate with the AMP STA or the energizer. The AMP STA is a low-power device and has an energy harvesting function. The energizer may be a charging device (for example, may be an AMP-specific charging device), and is configured to wirelessly transfer power to the AMP STA, so that the energizer can satisfy daily running of the AMP STA.
[00111] In this embodiment of this application, the AMP STA may be understood as an apparatus for RF energy harvesting. The essence of RF energy harvesting is to convert RF energy like an RF signal into electric energy like a direct current (direct current, DC) (RF-DC). For example, the apparatus for RF energy harvesting may convert RF energy harvested by the apparatus into electric energy and then store the electric energy in an energy storage unit (for example, a capacitor or a battery), or may directly use the harvested RF energy to drive a logic circuit, a digital chip, a sensor, or the like, to complete at least one of the following functions: modulating a reflected signal, sending a reflected signal, and collecting and processing sensing information. The reflected signal herein indicates a reflected signal of backscatter (backscatter) communication.
[00112] The AMP STA may also be referred to as an apparatus for RF energy harvesting, an apparatus for converting RF energy into a DC, an apparatus capable of implementing RF energy harvesting, a low-power apparatus, or the like. A specific name of the apparatus is not limited in embodiments of this application. That the AMP STA herein may convert the RF energy harvested by the AMP STA into the electric energy is merely an example. For example, the AMP STA may alternatively convert the RF energy into other energy, and the other energy may be used to implement a function similar to that of the electric energy. The AMP STA may be an entire low-power device, or may be a chip, a processing system, a functional module, or the like installed in an entire device. The device in which the chip, the processing system, or the functional module is installed may implement a method and a function in embodiments of this application under control of the chip, the processing system, or the functional module.
[00113] In this embodiment of this application, the energizer may provide RF energy for the AMP STA. For example, the energizer may send a WPT signal to the AMP STA, to provide RF energy for the AMP STA. The WPT signal herein is an RF signal. For example, the WPT signal may also be referred to as a power transfer signal, a signal for RF power transfer, a signal for RF energy harvesting, or the like. A name of the WPT signal is not limited in embodiments of this application. The energizer may also be referred to as an apparatus for providing RF energy, an apparatus having a charging function, an energizer STA, an energy STA, or the like.
[00114] The energizer may further communicate with the AP by using a Wi-Fi protocol. For example, the energizer may be a non-access point station (non-access point station, non-AP STA), a relay node (relay node) (or referred to as a repeater, a relay apparatus, or the like), or the like. The relay node may be configured to amplify a signal, compensate for signal attenuation, and support communication (for example, including long-range communication). A specific product form or type of the energizer is not limited in embodiments of this application.
[00115] The AMP STA and the energizer shown in this embodiment of this application are different STAs. The following descriptions of the STA are also applicable to the AMP STA or the energizer. For example, the STA may support communication, sensing, or power transfer by using a WLAN protocol, and has a capability of communicating, sensing, or transmitting energy with another non-AP STA or an access point in a WLAN network. In a WLAN system, the STA may be referred to as a non-AP STA. For example, the station may be a wireless communication chip, a wireless sensor, or a wireless communication terminal, and may also be referred to as a user. For example, the station may be a mobile phone, a tablet computer, a set-top box, a smart television, a smart wearable device, a vehicle-mounted communication device, a computer, or the like that supports a Wi-Fi communication function. Optionally, the station may support the 802.11be standard. Alternatively, the station may support a plurality of WLAN standards of the 802.11 family, such as 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b, 802.11a, and a next-generation standard of 802.11be.
[00116] In embodiments of this application, the AP may be an access point for a terminal device (like a mobile phone) to access a wired (or wireless) network, and is mainly deployed in a home, a building, and a park. A typical coverage radius is tens of meters to hundreds of meters. Certainly, the network device may alternatively be deployed outdoors. The access point is equivalent to a bridge that connects a wired network and a wireless network, and is mainly used to connect various wireless network clients together and then connect the wireless network to the Ethernet. Specifically, the access point may be a terminal device (for example, a mobile phone) or a network device (for example, a router) with a Wi-Fi chip, or may be a wireless communication chip, a wireless sensor, a wireless communication terminal, or the like that has an access point function. The access point may be a device that supports the 802.11be standard. Alternatively, the access point may be a device that supports a plurality of WLAN standards of the 802.11 family, such as 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11ad, 802.11ay, 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b, 802.11a, and a next generation of 802.11be.
[00117] An AMP downlink (downlink, DL) in FIG. 1 indicates a downlink from the AP to the AMP STA. An AMP uplink (uplink, UL) indicates an uplink from the AMP STA to the AP. The AMP DL or AMP UL may also be referred to as an AMP-based wireless link. For example, the wireless link may include a communication link. For example, the AP and the AMP STA may communicate with each other, sense each other, or the like over the wireless link. For example, the AMP DL or AMP UL may support a 2.4 GHz frequency band, or a sub-1 GHz (Sub-1 GHz) frequency band.
[00118] The UL or DL in FIG. 1 may support the sub-1 GHz frequency band, the 2.4 GHz frequency band, a 5 GHz frequency band, a 6 GHz frequency band, or the like. Details are not enumerated herein. The UL or DL in FIG. 1 may support a Wi-Fi protocol (for example, the 802.11b / g / n / ac / ax / be / bn standard) or another communication protocol. This is not limited in embodiments of this application.
[00119] In FIG. 1, there may be a wireless link between the energizer and the AMP STA. The wireless link may include but is not limited to a communication link, for example, a point-to-point (point to point, P2P) communication link, a WPT link, or a WUR link. For example, the P2P communication link may be configured to support a WPT function. For example, the P2P communication link may be configured to transmit signaling related to a WPT signal.
[00120] To further reduce power consumption of the AMP STA, the energizer STA may provide P2P wake-up radio (wake-up radio, WUR) service support for the AMP STA, so that the AMP STA can enter a P2P WUR mode. The P2P WUR mode between the energizer STA and the AMP STA may be independent of a WUR mode between the AMP STA and the AP. The P2P WUR mode shown in this embodiment of this application may also be referred to as a low-power mode, a saving mode, an energy saving mode, or the like. A specific name of the P2P WUR mode is not limited in embodiments of this application.
[00121] Types of the apparatuses shown in FIG. 1 are merely examples, and do not indicate limitations on types of the AP, the AMP STA, and the energizer in embodiments of this application. In addition, quantities of apparatuses shown in FIG. 1 are merely examples, and in a specific implementation, there may be more or fewer apparatuses. This is not limited in embodiments of this application. Each system shown in FIG. 1 is merely an example. With development of standards, other types of topologies may appear subsequently. Any topology applicable to interaction procedures shown below falls within the protection scope of embodiments of this application.
[00122] For example, FIG. 2 is a diagram of a point-to-multipoint charging and wake-up scenario according to an embodiment of this application. In FIG. 2, an energizer may wake up a plurality of AMP STAs, and wirelessly transfer power to the plurality of AMP STAs using an RF power beam (power beam), so that the energizer can satisfy daily running of the plurality of AMP STAs. In FIG. 2, the energizer may wake up the plurality of AMP STAs in a multicast manner, or may wake up the plurality of AMP STAs in a broadcast manner.
[00123] The IEEE 802.11ba standard is an existing WUR standard that defines WUR physical layer (PHY) and media access control (MAC) specifications. In a MAC layer design of the standard, a STA may enter an energy saving mode of a WUR mode (mode), and an AP provides a corresponding service for the STA, for example, wake-up or synchronization, to ensure that the STA can normally run in the WUR mode.
[00124] However, the specifications support only a WUR operation between the AP and the STA, that is, support the AP in waking up one or more STAs, and cannot support a P2P wake-up operation between STAs in the structure shown in FIG. 1, or a point-to-multipoint (point to multiple point, P2MP) wake-up operation or a broadcast wake-up operation between the STAs in the structure shown in FIG. 2. In current P2P communication, a procedure related to a wake-up operation is not considered. In addition, if a current P2P communication procedure is applied to a P2P wake-up operation between STAs, there may be identity conflicts between the STAs, or there may be channel congestion.
[00125] In view of this, embodiments of this application provide a wake-up method. In the method, an energizer STA may send a first request frame to an AP. The first request frame may include parameter request information, and the parameter request information may be for requesting the access point to allocate a parameter of a first wake-up mode to the energizer STA. The AP may allocate first parameter information of the first wake-up mode to the energizer STA. In the method, a base station may allocate a parameter of a point-to-multipoint wake-up mode, a point-to-point wake-up mode, or a broadcast wake-up mode to an energizer STA, so that a WUR operation between the STAs can be implemented. In addition, in the point-to-multipoint wake-up mode or the broadcast wake-up mode, because STAs in a plurality of BSSs do not communicate with each other, the energizer STA cannot learn of an identity (identity, ID) of an AMP STA in another BSS. Therefore, there may be ID conflicts between the AMP STAs. In this case, that the AP allocates the parameter of the first wake-up mode can reduce or even avoid the ID conflicts between the AMP STAs. In addition, channel congestion caused by the energizer STA waking up a plurality of AMP STAs on a same channel can also be avoided.
[00126] FIG. 3 is an example flowchart of a wake-up method according to an embodiment of this application. The method may include the following operations.
[00127] S301: An energizer STA sends a first request frame to an AP.
[00128] Correspondingly, the AP receives the first request frame from the energizer STA.
[00129] The first request frame may include parameter request information. In an example, the parameter request information may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate a parameter of a first wake-up mode to the energizer STA. In another example, the parameter request information may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate a parameter of a wake-up operation, and the parameter may be used in the first wake-up mode. Optionally, the parameter request information may include a type of the parameter that needs to be allocated by the AP.
[00130] In this embodiment of this application, the first wake-up mode may include one or more of a P2P wake-up mode, a P2MP wake-up mode, or a broadcast wake-up mode. In the P2P wakeup mode, one energizer STA may wake up one AMP STA. In the P2MP wake-up mode and the broadcast wake-up mode, one energizer STA may wake up a plurality of AMP STAs. For example, in the P2MP wake-up mode and the broadcast wake-up mode, one energizer STA may wake up one or more AMP STA groups, and one AMP STA group may include one or more AMP STAs.
[00131] For example, the first request frame may be a P2P WUR parameter (parameter) request (request), and may be for requesting the AP to allocate the parameter of the wake-up operation. In an example, the first request frame may be for requesting the AP to allocate the parameter of the first wake-up mode. In another example, the first request frame is for requesting the AP to allocate the parameter of the wake-up operation, and the parameter allocated by the AP may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00132] For descriptions of the first request frame, refer to the following. Details are not described herein.
[00133] S302: The AP sends a first response frame to the energizer STA.
[00134] Correspondingly, the energizer STA receives the first response frame from the AP.
[00135] The first response frame may include first parameter information allocated by the AP. Optionally, the first parameter information may include the parameter corresponding to the parameter request information that is allocated by the AP.
[00136] For example, the first response frame may be a P2P WUR parameter response (response) frame, and indicates the parameter allocated by the AP. In an example, the first response frame may indicate the parameter of the first wake-up mode allocated by the AP. In another example, the first response frame may indicate the parameter allocated by the AP, and the parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wakeup mode.
[00137] For descriptions of the first response frame, refer to the following. Details are not described herein.
[00138] Optionally, the embodiment shown in FIG. 3 may further include the following operations S300 and S303.
[00139] S300: An AMP STA sends a second request frame to the energizer STA.
[00140] Correspondingly, the energizer STA receives the second request frame from the AMP STA.
[00141] S300 may be implemented before S301. In an example, the second request frame may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate the parameter of the first wake-up mode. In another example, the second request frame may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate the parameter of the wake-up operation, and the parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00142] In a possible case, the second request frame may be a P2P WUR mode setup (setup) request frame. For example, the second request frame may be for requesting to set up a WUR mode, to implement a function of requesting the AP to allocate the parameter.
[00143] In a possible implementation, the AMP STA may send the second request frame to the energizer STA via the AP, or the AMP STA may send the second request frame to the energizer STA over a P2P communication link. For example, if the AMP STA has not set up a P2P communication link with the energizer STA, the AMP STA may send the second request frame to the energizer STA via the AP. If the AMP STA has set up a P2P communication link with the energizer STA, the AMP STA may send the second request frame to the energizer STA over the P2P communication link.
[00144] Optionally, after successfully receiving the second request frame, the energizer STA may group the AMP STA into an AMP STA group based on a geographical location, for example, an orientation, of the AMP STA. It may be understood that one AMP STA may be grouped into one or more AMP STA groups.
[00145] S303: The energizer STA sends a second response frame to the AMP STA.
[00146] Correspondingly, the AMP STA receives the second response frame from the energizer STA.
[00147] S303 may be implemented after S302. The second response frame may include second parameter information allocated by the AP, and the second parameter information may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. The second parameter information may be a part or all of the first parameter information. For example, the second response frame may be a P2P WUR mode setup response (response) frame. Optionally, the second response frame may indicate to set up the WUR mode. For descriptions of the second response frame, refer to the following. Details are not described herein.
[00148] In a possible implementation, the energizer STA may send the second response frame to the AMP STA via the AP, or the energizer STA may send the second response frame to the AMP STA over a P2P communication link. For example, if the energizer STA has not set up a P2P communication link with the AMP STA, the energizer STA may send the second response frame to the AMP STA via the AP. If the energizer STA has set up a P2P communication link with the AMP STA, the energizer STA may send the second response frame to the AMP STA over the P2P communication link.
[00149] The following describes information included in the frames involved in the foregoing procedure. It should be noted that a quantity of bits (or a quantity of bytes), a sequence, and the like of each frame, each field, or each element shown in the accompanying drawings of embodiments of this application are merely used as examples, and should not constitute a limitation on a frame format, a frame length, a sequence of fields, or the like provided in embodiments of this application. Names of the frames and the included fields in the accompanying drawings of embodiments of this application are merely examples, and should not constitute a limitation on the frames provided in embodiments of this application. For ease of description, embodiments of this application are shown by using a "field" as an example, and a "field", a "subfield", an "element", a "subelement", and the like are not specifically distinguished. Although the "field", the "subfield", the "element", and the "subelement" are not specifically distinguished in embodiments shown in this application, persons skilled in the art may adaptively distinguish between relationships between the fields shown in embodiments of this application.
[00150] 1. First request frame
[00151] To appropriately allocate resources to a P2P wake-up mode, a P2MP wake-up mode, or a broadcast wake-up mode, an energizer STA may send a first request frame to an AP, to request the AP to allocate a corresponding parameter. In embodiments of this application, the first request frame may include parameter request information. For example, the parameter request information may be a P2P WUR parameter request. For example, the parameter request information may be for requesting a parameter of a first wake-up mode. In another example, the parameter request information may be for requesting a parameter of a wake-up operation, and the parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wakeup mode. For descriptions related to the parameter request information, refer to the following. Details are not described herein.
[00152] In an example, the first request frame may further include a first identifier of an AMP STA (AMP STA identifier). The first identifier of the AMP STA may be for the AP to determine (or identify) the AMP STA. For example, the field may be an identifier that can be used by the AP to identify the AMP STA, for example, a media access control (media access control, MAC) address, a compressed MAC address, or an application identifier (application identifier, AID) of the AMP STA. An objective of this field is to prevent the AP from repeatedly allocating a plurality of second identifiers in the first wake-up operation mode to the same AMP STA.
[00153] For example, if the same AMP STA sequentially sends second request frames to a plurality of different energizer STAs, and the plurality of energizer STAs separately send first request frames to the AP, the AP may receive the plurality of first request frames requesting to allocate second identifiers (P2P WUR IDs) to the same AMP STA. Therefore, when the AP identifies that first identifiers in the plurality of different first request frames represent the same AMP STA, the AP always allocates a same second identifier, instead of allocating a plurality of different second identifiers.
[00154] In another example, the first request frame may further include a third identifier of the energizer STA (energizer identifier). The third identifier of the energizer STA may be for the AP to determine (or identify) the energizer STA. For example, the field may be an identifier that can be used by the AP to identify the energizer STA, for example, a MAC address, a compressed MAC address, or an AID of the energizer STA.
[00155] In embodiments of this application, the first request frame may be an action frame, a management frame, a control frame, or a data frame. A frame format varies depending on protocols. An example is used in the following description.
[00156] In an example, the first request frame may be a WUR action frame. The frame format of the first request frame is shown in FIG. 4A. The first request frame may include at least one of the following fields: a category field, an action field, a dialog token field, a parameter request information field, an AMP STA first identifier field, or an energizer STA third identifier field.
[00157] The category (category) field indicates a category of the action frame. For example, the first request frame is a WUR action frame, and a value of the category field is 256. It may be understood that the first request frame may alternatively be an action frame of another category. This is not specifically limited in this application.
[00158] The action (action) field indicates an action of the action frame. For example, the first request frame is the WUR action frame, and the action field may indicate a type of the WUR action frame. A value from 3 to 256 that are currently reserved may be selected for this field, and may indicate that the first request frame is a P2P WUR parameter request. In an example, the first request frame may be for requesting the AP to allocate the parameter of the first wake-up mode. In another example, the first request frame may be for requesting the AP to allocate the parameter of the wake-up operation, and the parameter allocated by the AP may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00159] The dialog token (dialog token) field is for matching the first request frame and the first response frame. When there are a plurality of concurrent operation requests, an operation response (response) may be matched with an operation request (request) using the dialog token field.
[00160] For the AMP STA first identifier field and the energizer STA third identifier field, refer to the related descriptions. For the parameter request information, refer to related descriptions shown in FIG. 4B.
[00161] The frame format shown in FIG. 4A is merely an example. In a specific implementation, the parameter request information may alternatively be carried in a frame of another category. FIG. 4A should not be understood as a limitation on embodiments of this application. When a frame carrying the parameter request information is a frame of another category, for a field carried in the frame, refer to at least one field included in the parameter request information.
[00162] The following describes the parameter request information provided in embodiments of this application. FIG. 4B shows a structure of parameter request information. The parameter request information may include at least one of the following fields: a channel request information field, an energizer STA identifier request information field, or a quantity of group identifier information field.
[00163] (1) The channel request information field indicates whether the AP needs to allocate a channel, where the channel may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. For example, the channel request information field may be a WUR primary channel request (requesting to allocate primary channel information), and for requesting to allocate a WUR primary channel. For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the AP does not need to allocate a channel, and when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the AP needs to allocate a channel. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the AP does not need to allocate a channel, and when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the AP needs to allocate a channel.
[00164] In a possible case, the channel request information field is an optional field. For example, the first request frame does not carry the field, and the AP may identify the energizer STA using the energizer STA third identifier field included in the first request frame, and allocate a channel, for example, the WUR primary channel, to the energizer STA. For example, the AP may allocate a channel to the energizer STA when the energizer STA sends the first request frame to the AP for the first time.
[00165] (2) The energizer STA identifier request information field is for requesting to allocate a fourth identifier to the energizer STA, where the fourth identifier may be used in the P2P wakeup mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. For example, the energizer STA identifier request information field may be an energizer P2P WUR ID request (requesting to allocate a P2P WUR ID to an energizer). It should be noted that the energizer and the energizer STA may be replaced with each other. Details are not described herein again.
[00166] For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the AP does not need to allocate the fourth identifier of the energizer STA, and when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the AP needs to allocate the fourth identifier of the energizer STA. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the AP does not need to allocate the fourth identifier of the energizer STA, and when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the AP needs to allocate the fourth identifier of the energizer STA.
[00167] In a possible case, the energizer STA identifier request information field is an optional field. For example, the first request frame does not carry the field, and the AP may identify the energizer STA using the energizer STA third identifier field included in the first request frame, and allocate the corresponding fourth identifier to the energizer STA. For example, the AP may allocate the fourth identifier to the energizer STA when the energizer STA sends the first request frame to the AP for the first time.
[00168] (3) The quantity of group identifier information field indicates a quantity of group identifier information requested by the energizer STA from the AP. For example, the quantity of group identifier information field may be a number of P2MP WUR IDs (number of P2MP WUR IDs). It should be noted that the P2MP WUR ID may be understood as group identifier information, that is, identifier information of an AMP STA group.
[00169] Optionally, this field may also be for requesting the AP to allocate group identifier information, and a quantity of group identifier information allocated by the AP may be the same as a quantity indicated by this field. For example, the field may be represented by 6 bits, and a value of the quantity ranges from 0 to 63.
[00170] Based on the foregoing content, the first request frame provided in this embodiment of this application is described. The energizer STA may request, based on the first request frame, the AP to allocate a parameter of a wake-up operation. The following describes a first response frame provided in embodiments of this application.
[00171] 2. First response frame
[00172] After receiving the first request frame from the energizer STA, the AP may allocate a corresponding parameter to the energizer STA. For example, the first request frame may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate the parameter of the first wake-up mode to the energizer STA, and the first response frame may include the parameter of the first wake-up mode allocated by the AP. For another example, the first request frame may be for requesting (or may indicate) the AP to allocate the parameter of the wake-up operation to the energizer STA, and the first response frame may include the parameter allocated by the AP. The parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00173] In embodiments of this application, the first response frame may include first parameter information. Optionally, the first parameter information may include the parameter corresponding to the parameter request information that is allocated by the AP. For example, the first parameter information may be a P2P WUR parameter, and indicates the parameter of the first wake-up mode allocated by the AP. For another example, the first parameter information may be a P2P WUR parameter, and indicates the parameter of the wake-up operation that is allocated by the AP. The parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00174] FIG. 5A shows a structure of first parameter information. The first parameter information may include at least one of the following fields: an operating class field, a first channel information field, a channel offset information field, an AMP STA second identifier field, an energizer STA fourth identifier field, a duty cycle start time field, or a group identifier information field. Optionally, the first parameter information may further include a reserved field.
[00175] The WUR operating class (operating class) field indicates an operating class of a channel, for example, an operating class of a WUR primary channel. This field may include 8 bits, which correspond to different operating classes depending on different countries. It may be understood that this field is present only when the channel request information in the first request frame indicates that the AP is requested to allocate a channel.
[00176] The first channel information (P2P WUR channel) field indicates the channel allocated by the AP, for example, indicates the WUR primary channel. For example, the first channel information field may include a channel number. This field may include 8 bits. It may be understood that this field is present only when the channel request information in the first request frame indicates that the AP is requested to allocate a channel.
[00177] The channel offset information (P2P WUR channel offset) field indicates an offset between a channel carrying a wake-up frame and the channel indicated by the first channel information field, for example, indicates an offset between the channel carrying the wake-up frame and the WUR primary channel. This field may include 3 bits.
[00178] The AMP STA second identifier (AMP STA P2P WUR ID) field indicates a second identifier (a P2P WUR ID) allocated by the AP to the AMP STA. The first identifier may be used in the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. This field may be 12 bits.
[00179] The energizer STA fourth identifier (energizer P2P WUR ID) field indicates an identifier (P2P WUR ID) allocated by the AP to the energizer STA. The identifier may be used in the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. This field may include 16 bits, and the last 4 bits may be reserved values. It may be understood that this field is present only when the energizer STA identifier request information field in the first request frame indicates that the AP is requested to allocate the fourth identifier of the energizer STA.
[00180] The duty cycle start time (duty cycle start time) field represents a start time of a P2P WUR duty cycle, and indicates a time at which the energizer STA starts to support a WUR mode of the AMP STA. A value of this field is a TSF value at a start time point of a WUR duty cycle, and may be represented by 64 bits.
[00181] The group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) field indicates group identifier information (a P2MP WUR ID) allocated by the AP to the energizer STA. It may be understood that a quantity of group identifier information herein may be equal to a quantity of requests of energizer STAs in the first request frame.
[00182] In a possible case, the group identifier information field may be implemented using a bitmap. For example, the group identifier information field may include the following subfields.
[00183] A P2MP WUR ID bitmap size (P2MP WUR ID bitmap size) field indicates a size of a P2MP WUR ID bitmap in the list. This field may be 4 bits. For example, a value set to 0 indicates that the P2MP WUR ID bitmap is not present, and values set to 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively indicate that sizes of P2MP WUR ID bitmaps are 8 bits, 16 bits, 32 bits, and 64 bits. Values of 5 to 255 are reserved.
[00184] A starting P2MP WUR ID (starting P2MP WUR ID) field has a value related to the value of the P2MP WUR ID bitmap size field. If the P2MP WUR ID bitmap size field is 0, this field is reserved. If the P2MP WUR ID bitmap size field is not 0, this field indicates a starting P2MP WUR ID of the P2MP WUR ID bitmap, and may be represented by 12 bits.
[00185] A P2MP WUR ID bitmap (P2MP WUR ID bitmap) field indicates a bitmap of a P2MP WUR ID allocated by the AP to the energizer STA. A start value of the bitmap is a value of the starting P2MP WUR ID field, and a size of the bitmap is a value of the P2MP WUR ID bitmap size field. If a P2MP WUR ID is allocated to the energizer STA, a corresponding bit in the P2MP WUR ID bitmap field is set to a specific value, for example, 1 or 0.
[00186] In a possible implementation, the first response frame may further include parameter control information. The parameter control information may indicate whether the first parameter information is present. For example, the parameter control information may indicate whether one or more fields included in the first parameter information are present.
[00187] FIG. 5B shows a structure of parameter control information. The parameter control information may include at least one of the following fields: a WUR primary channel field present field, an energizer STA identifier field present field, or a group identifier information present field. Optionally, the parameter control information may further include a reserved field.
[00188] The first channel information field present field indicates whether channel information allocated by the AP is present in the first parameter information. For example, the field may be WUR primary channel present (WUR primary channel present).
[00189] For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the channel information allocated by the AP is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the channel information allocated by the AP is not present in the first parameter information. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the channel information allocated by the AP is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the channel information allocated by the AP is not present in the first parameter information.
[00190] An energizer STA identifier field present (energizer WUR ID present) field indicates whether a fourth identifier of the energizer STA is present in the first parameter information. For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the fourth identifier of the energizer STA is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the fourth identifier of the energizer STA is not present in the first parameter information. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the fourth identifier of the energizer STA is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the fourth identifier of the energizer STA is not present in the first parameter information.
[00191] A group identifier information present (P2MP WUR ID list present) field indicates whether group identifier information is present in the first parameter information. For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the group identifier information is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the group identifier information is not present in the first parameter information. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the group identifier information is present in the first parameter information; or when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the group identifier information is not present in the first parameter information.
[00192] In embodiments of this application, the first response frame may be an action frame, a management frame, a control frame, or a data frame. In an example, the first response frame may be a WUR action frame. A frame format of the first response frame is shown in FIG. 5C. A category field and an action field may indicate a category of the first response frame, and a dialog token field may be for matching the first request frame and the first response frame. The parameter control information may indicate whether the first parameter information is present in the first response frame, and the first parameter information may indicate a parameter allocated by the AP.
[00193] The frame format shown in FIG. 5C is merely an example. In a specific implementation, the first parameter information may alternatively be carried in a frame of another category. FIG. 5C should not be understood as a limitation on embodiments of this application. When a frame carrying the first parameter information is a frame of another category, for a field carried in the frame, refer to at least one field included in the first parameter information.
[00194] Based on the foregoing solutions, the first request frame and the first response frame in embodiments of this application are described. The energizer STA may obtain, based on the first request frame and the first response frame, the parameter allocated by the AP. As shown in S303, the energizer STA may send, to the AMP STA, the parameter allocated by the AP. The following describes a second response frame provided in embodiments of this application.
[00195] 3. Second response frame
[00196] In embodiments of this application, the second response frame may include second parameter information. The second parameter information may be a part or all of the first parameter information. Optionally, the second parameter information may include the parameter corresponding to the parameter request information that is allocated by the AP. For example, the second parameter information may be a P2P WUR parameter.
[00197] In an example, the second parameter information may include the parameter of the first wake-up mode allocated by the AP. In another example, the second parameter information may include a parameter allocated by the AP, and the parameter may be used in one or more of the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode.
[00198] FIG. 6A shows a format of second parameter information according to an embodiment of this application. The second parameter information may include at least one of the following fields: an AMP STA second identifier field, a first channel information field, a channel offset information field, a duty cycle start time field, a group identifier information field, or an operating class field. Optionally, the second parameter information may further include a reserved field.
[00199] The WUR operating class (operating class) field indicates an operating class of a channel, for example, an operating class of a WUR primary channel. This field may include 8 bits, which correspond to different operating classes depending on different countries.
[00200] The first channel information (P2P WUR channel) field indicates a channel allocated by the AP, for example, indicates the WUR primary channel. For example, the first channel information field may include a channel number. This field may include 8 bits.
[00201] The channel offset information (P2P WUR channel offset) field indicates an offset between a channel carrying a wake-up frame and the channel indicated by the first channel information field, for example, indicates an offset between the channel carrying the wake-up frame and the WUR primary channel. This field may include 3 bits.
[00202] The AMP STA second identifier (AMP STA P2P WUR ID) field indicates a second identifier (a P2P WUR ID) allocated by the AP to the AMP STA. The second identifier may be used in the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. This field may be 12 bits.
[00203] The energizer STA fourth identifier (energizer P2P WUR ID) field indicates an identifier (P2P WUR ID) allocated by the AP to the energizer STA. The identifier may be used in the P2P wake-up mode, the P2MP wake-up mode, or the broadcast wake-up mode. This field may include 16 bits, and the last 4 bits may be reserved values.
[00204] The duty cycle start time (duty cycle start time) field represents a start time of a P2P WUR duty cycle, and indicates a time at which the energizer STA starts to support a WUR mode of the AMP STA. A value of this field is a TSF value at a start time point of a WUR duty cycle, and may be represented by 64 bits.
[00205] The group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) field indicates group identifier information (a P2MP WUR ID) allocated by the AP. In a possible case, the group identifier information field may be implemented by using a bitmap. For an implementation, refer to the first response frame. Details are not described herein again.
[00206] In a possible case, the second response frame may further include parameter control information, for example, WUR parameter control. The parameter control information may indicate whether the second parameter information is present in the second response frame. For example, the parameter control information may indicate whether one or more fields included in the second parameter information are present. In an example, as shown in FIG. 6B, the parameter control information may include at least one of the following fields:
[00207] A duty cycle start time present (WUR duty cycle start time present) field indicates whether a duty cycle start time (WUR duty cycle start time) is present in the second parameter information. For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the duty cycle start time is present in the second parameter information; or when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the duty cycle start time is not present in the second parameter information. Alternatively, when a value of this field is 0, it indicates that the duty cycle start time is present in the second parameter information; or when a value of this field is 1, it indicates that the duty cycle start time is not present in the second parameter information.
[00208] A group identifier information present (P2MP WUR ID list present) field indicates whether group identifier information (a P2MP WUR ID list) is present in the second parameter information. For example, the field may be represented by 1 bit. For example, when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) is present in the second parameter information; or when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) is not present in the second parameter information. Alternatively, when a value of the field is 0, it indicates that the group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) is present in the second parameter information; or when a value of the field is 1, it indicates that the group identifier information (P2MP WUR ID list) is not present in the second parameter information.
[00209] A P2P flag (P2P flag) field indicates that the second response frame is a setup frame in the P2P WUR mode.
[00210] In embodiments of this application, the second response frame may be an action frame, a management frame, a control frame, or a data frame. In an example, the second response frame may be a WUR action frame. A frame format of the second response frame is shown in FIG. 6C. The second response frame may include at least one of the following fields: A category field and an action field may indicate a category of the second response frame. A dialog token field may be for matching the second request frame and the second response frame. A WUR mode element (mode element) field may carry a WUR parameter, for example, the second parameter information.
[00211] For example, as shown in FIG. 6D, the WUR mode element may include at least one of the following fields: an element ID field, a length field, an element ID extension field, an action type (action type) field, a WUR mode response status (WUR mode response status) field, a parameter control information (WUR parameters control) field, and a second parameter information (P2P WUR parameters) field. Optionally, the WUR mode element may further include a reserved field.
[00212] The action type field indicates an action type of a frame carrying the WUR mode element, that is, an action type of the second response frame.
[00213] The WUR mode response status field indicates a response of the energizer STA to a request of the AMP STA, that is, a response to a WUR mode setup request. For example, the field may occupy 8 bits. The parameter control information (WUR parameters control) and the second parameter information (P2P WUR parameters) may be shown in FIG. 6A and FIG. 6B. Details are not described again.
[00214] The AMP STA and the energizer STA may set up the WUR mode based on the second response frame, and the energizer STA may obtain the parameter of the WUR mode. The energizer STA may wake up the AMP STA and transfer power to the AMP STA. For example, the energizer STA may send a wake-up frame to the AMP STA. Correspondingly, the AMP STA may receive the wake-up frame from the energizer STA.
[00215] In a possible case, the energizer STA may send the wake-up frame to the AMP STA in a unicast manner. The wake-up frame may include an AMP STA second identifier, that is, an AMP STA P2P WUR ID. The AMP STA that receives the unicast wake-up frame may wake up and harvest RF energy.
[00216] In another possible case, the energizer STA may send a wake-up frame in a multicast manner to the AMP STA group, and the wake-up frame may include group identifier information, that is, a P2MP WUR ID. An AMP STA included in the group represented by the P2MP WUR ID may receive the multicast wake-up frame. The AMP STA that receives the multicast wake-up frame may determine whether the P2MP WUR ID belongs to one of the group identifier information included in the second response frame. If the AMP STA determines that the P2MP WUR ID belongs to one of the group identifier information included in the second response frame, the AMP STA may wake up and harvest RF energy.
[00217] In still another possible case, the energizer STA may broadcast a wake-up frame, and the wake-up frame may include an energizer STA fourth identifier, that is, an energizer P2P WUR ID. When the AMP STA that receives the broadcast wake-up frame determines that the energizer STA fourth identifier is the same as the energizer STA fourth identifier included in the second response frame, the AMP STA may wake up and harvest RF energy.
[00218] FIG. 7 shows a frame structure of a wake-up frame. The wake-up frame may include at least one of the following fields: a frame control (frame control) field, an identifier (ID) field, or a frame check sequence (FCS) field. Optionally, the wake-up frame may further include a reserved field.
[00219] The frame control field may include at least one of the following subfields: a type subfield, a protected subfield, a frame body present subfield, or a subtype subfield.
[00220] The type (type) subfield indicates a type of the frame. For example, the field may include 8 bits, where 0 to 4 represent a current WUR frame, 5 represents a P2P WUR frame, for example, the wake-up frame in this embodiment of this application, and 6 and 7 are reserved values.
[00221] The values are merely examples, and do not constitute a limitation on a value of the type field.
[00222] The protected (protected) subfield indicates whether the frame is protected. For example, the field is a reserved field.
[00223] The frame body present (frame body present) subfield indicates whether a frame body is present. For example, the field is a reserved field.
[00224] The subtype (subtype) subfield indicates a specific type of the P2P WUR frame. For example, the field may include 2 bits. 0 indicates that the frame is a P2P WUR wake-up (wake-up) frame, and 1 indicates that the frame is a P2P WUR keep alive (keep alive) frame.
[00225] The values are merely examples, and do not constitute a limitation on a value of the subtype field.
[00226] The identifier (ID) subfield indicates a target receiver. If the frame is a unicast frame, the field is a target AMP STA first identifier (P2P WUR ID). If the frame is a multicast frame, the field is a target AMP STA group identifier (P2MP WUR ID). If the frame is a broadcast frame, the field is an energizer STA fourth identifier (energizer P2P WUR ID).
[00227] The frame check sequence (FCS) subfield includes a 16-bit frame check sequence.
[00228] Based on a same idea, this application provides a communication apparatus. FIG. 8 is a block diagram of a communication apparatus 800 according to an embodiment of this application. The communication apparatus 800 can correspondingly implement functions or steps implemented by an energizer STA, AMP STA, or AP in the foregoing method embodiments. The storage unit may be configured to store instructions (code or a program) and / or data. The processing unit 810 and the transceiver unit 820 may be coupled to the storage unit. For example, the processing unit 810 may read the instructions (code or program) and / or data in the storage unit, to implement a corresponding method. The processing unit 810 is configured to perform all operations performed by the AMP STA in the embodiment shown in FIG. 3 except the receiving / sending operations.
[00235] For example, the processing unit 810 is configured to generate a second request frame. The second request frame indicates an access point to allocate a parameter of a first wake-up mode, and the first wake-up mode includes a point-to-point wake-up mode, a point-to-multipoint wakeup mode, or a broadcast wake-up mode. The transceiver unit 820 is configured to send the second request frame to an energizer station. The transceiver unit 820 is further configured to receive a second response frame from the energizer station, where the second response frame includes second parameter information of the first wake-up mode allocated by the access point.

The memory 1020 stores a computer program, a computer program or instructions, and / or data necessary for implementing the function of the AP in any one of the foregoing embodiments. The processor 1010 may execute the computer program stored in the memory 1020, to complete the method performed by the AP in any one of the foregoing embodiments.
[00245] In a possible implementation, the communication apparatus 1000 may be used in an AMP STA.
