Abstract
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD The invention relates to a foldable storage bag, such as a travel bag. PRIOR ART A variety of foldable bags or storage bags are known in which items can be carried or transported. A foldable feature is particularly useful when someone is traveling and may need more or different types of storage bags at the person's travel destination. Or needs extra storage bags during the journey to or the return journey from the destination, but not for the entire round trip. An example of a foldable storage bag is described in US6640856. The foldable storage bag offers an innovative solution with foldable sides and a base strip, so that the storage bag can be easily stored when the storage bag is not in use. The practical functionality accommodates various items with a compartment and an opening at the top. A two-part closure ensures a secure closure, so that the foldable storage bag remains compact during storage or transport. The actual transport or storage of a foldable storage bag by a traveler is, however, often somewhat difficult, especially because the chosen material does not always lend itself easily to folding or because its resistance to friction or wear is insufficient. There is thus a need for an efficient, durable, and high-quality foldable storage bag. The present invention aims to provide a solution to this problem. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In a first aspect, the present invention concerns a storage bag according to claim 1. The storage bag is advantageous because its volume can be reduced and it can consequently be stored in a space-saving manner, for example, during travel. Moreover, one or more straps or other protruding parts can be stored, preventing any entanglement of one or more straps. Furthermore, the auxiliary compartment has a dual function: for storing small personal items such as credit cards, money, fountain pens, or others, and for storing the storage bag itself in its folded and / or compressed form. Preferred embodiments of the storage bag are presented in claims 2 to 11. DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES Figure 1A shows a side view of a storage bag of the present invention. The storage bag is a combination of a shoulder bag and a tote bag. A main compartment is unfolded. Figure IB shows an opposite side view of the storage bag of the present invention from Figure 1A. Figure IC shows a side view of a storage bag of the present invention according to Figure 1A and Figure IB. The storage bag is a combination of a tote bag and a shoulder bag, and the main compartment is folded into the auxiliary compartment. Figure 2A shows a side view of a storage bag of the present invention. The storage bag is a shoulder bag, and a main compartment is unfolded. Figure 2B shows an opposite side view of the storage bag of the present invention from Figure 2A. Figure 2C shows a side view of a storage bag of the present invention according to Figure 2A and Figure 2B. The storage bag is a shoulder bag, and the main compartment is folded into the auxiliary compartment. DETAILED DESCRIPTION The invention concerns a storage bag, such as a handbag or shoulder bag, that is foldable and can thus be easily stored. The storage bag is particularly suitable for use as a travel bag. The storage bag is made of materials that exhibit sufficient flexibility to be foldable and are simultaneously strong enough so that the storage bag is sufficiently resistant to friction. The terms "comprise", "comprising", "consist of", "consisting of", "provided with", "have", "having", "include", "including", "contain", "containing" are synonyms and are inclusive or open terms that indicate the presence of what follows, and which do not exclude or prevent the presence of other components, characteristics, elements, members, steps, as known from or disclosed in the prior art. Quoting numerical intervals by the endpoints comprises all integers, fractions and / or real numbers between the endpoints, these endpoints included. The term "storage bag" in the present invention refers to a portable storage device designed to store various items, preferably for transporting said various items. The term "auxiliary compartment" refers to an additional storage space that is smaller than the main compartment. The terms "folding" and "compressing" refer to the process of reducing the size of a compartment by folding it and / or pressing it together. In a first aspect, the invention concerns a storage bag. In an embodiment, the storage bag comprises at least one main compartment for receiving one or more items. The storage bag is provided with one or more handles and / or one or more straps. The storage bag is also provided with a auxiliary compartment. The auxiliary compartment comprises a first zipper. This auxiliary compartment has a projected area of each of its side walls, on a plane perpendicular to a base of the main compartment, that is at least one and a half times smaller than a projected area, on said plane, of the main compartment. In particular, at least a part of the main compartment of the storage bag can be folded and / or compressed. The folded and / or compressed part can be stored in the auxiliary compartment. The auxiliary compartment is closable by the first zipper both when the main compartment is unfolded and when the main compartment is stored in the auxiliary compartment. The above ensures that the storage bag can be reduced in volume and thus can be stored in a space-saving manner, for example, during travel. Moreover, one or more straps or other protruding parts can be stored, preventing any entanglement of one or more straps. In an embodiment, the main compartment comprises two side walls and the base. Preferably, both side walls are connected to each other on at least two edges, and a third edge of each side wall is at least connected to the base. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment comprises two side walls. Preferably, all edges of said side walls are connected to each other. Optionally, all edges of said side walls are connected to each other by means of a peripheral wall. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment will have at least one side wall which is common with at least a portion of a side wall of the main compartment, namely a common side wall of the auxiliary compartment. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment has a dual function, i.e., it can be used both for storing small personal items such as credit cards, money, fountain pens, or others, and for storing the storage bag itself in its folded and / or compressed form. This dual functionality of the auxiliary compartment can, on the one hand, offer a spacesaving solution when the full capacity of the storage bag is not necessary, and, on the other hand, compact storage and more efficient transport of the storage bag can contribute to a traveler's ease of use. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment comprises an outer layer with a backing layer. In an embodiment, the main compartment comprises an outer layer, a backing layer, and a lining. The lining is sewn to the outer layer by means of the backing layer. The base of the main compartment may optionally further comprise a padding, located between the lining and the backing layer. In a preferred embodiment, the outer layer comprises a woven 250 to 350 denier polyester textile. The main compartment and auxiliary compartment can be provided with a water-repellent coating on the outside of the storage bag. The outer layer of the main compartment and auxiliary compartment is preferably made from a woven 270 denier to 330 denier polyester, more preferably a 270 denier to 310 denier, more preferably a 285 denier to 330 denier, more preferably a 285 denier to 310 denier. The coating is preferably a polymer-based coating, more preferably a polyurethane coating. In an embodiment, the backing layer comprises cotton and at least 50% polyester. This makes the backing layer more flexible to allow deformation inside the storage bag. The backing layer is preferably at least 55 wt%, preferably at least 60 wt%, preferably at least 65 wt% polyester. Weight percentage is expressed relative to the total weight of the backing layer. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment has a projected area of each of the side walls of the auxiliary compartment. Said projected area of the auxiliary compartment is preferably determined on a plane perpendicular to the base of the main compartment when the main compartment is unfolded and the base is pulled flat. Said projected area of the auxiliary compartment is at least one and three-quarter times smaller than a projected area of the side walls of the main compartment. The projected area of the main compartment is also determined on said plane perpendicular to the base of the main compartment. Preferably, the projected area of each of the side walls of the auxiliary compartment is at least two times smaller than the projected area of each of the side walls of the main compartment, more preferably at least two and a half times smaller. Preferably, the projected area of each of the side walls of the auxiliary compartment is at most four times smaller than the projected area of each of the side walls of the main compartment. The projected area is measured on a plane perpendicular to a base, preferably a flat base, of the main compartment. This is advantageous so that the auxiliary compartment can be easily stored in a backpack or on a rack. In an embodiment, said projected area is equal to or smaller than 525 cm2, more preferably equal to or smaller than 425 cm2, more preferably equal to or smaller than 325 cm2, more preferably equal to or smaller than 225 cm2. Said projected area of the auxiliary compartment is greater than 100 cm2. In an embodiment, the woven polyester textile of the main compartment and auxiliary compartment has a thickness between 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm. This guarantees friction resistance and strength of the storage bag, without sacrificing flexibility, and thus it has good resistance to creasing. Preferably, the outer layer of the main and auxiliary compartment has a thickness between 0.65 mm and 1.50 mm, preferably between 0.70 mm and 1.50 mm, preferably between 0.72 mm and 1.50 mm, preferably between 0.50 mm and 1.25 mm, preferably between 0.65 mm and 1.25 mm, preferably between 0.70 mm and 1.25 mm, preferably between 0.72 mm and 1.25 mm, preferably between 0.50 mm and 1.00 mm, preferably between 0.65 mm and 1.00 mm, preferably between 0.70 mm and 1.00 mm, preferably between 0.72 mm and 1.00 mm, preferably between 0.50 mm and 0.85 mm, preferably between 0.65 mm and 0.85 mm, preferably between 0.70 mm and 0.85 mm, preferably between 0.72 mm and 0.85 mm, preferably between 0.50 mm and 0.78 mm, preferably between 0.65 mm and 0.78 mm, preferably between 0.70 mm and 0.78 mm, preferably between 0.72 mm and 0.78 mm. In this document, friction resistance means a minimum of 1000 cycles, measured according to EN 530:2010. In this document, flexibility means a minimum of 10,000 cycles, measured according to ISO 7854 / B:1995. In an embodiment, the woven polyester textile of the main and auxiliary compartment has a tensile strength between 100 N and 500 N. The tensile strength is measured according to ISO 13934-1 and applies to a machine and transverse direction. Preferably, the woven polyester textile has a tensile strength of at most 450 N, more preferably at most 400 N, more preferably at most 350 N. This range of tensile strength is sufficient to provide the storage bag with its flexibility, whereby permanent deformation due to repeated folding and unfolding of the main compartment can be avoided. Moreover, this contributes to good wear resistance of the woven polyester textile. In an embodiment, the woven polyester textile of the main and auxiliary compartment has a breaking strength between 1500 N and 2500 N. The breaking strength is measured according to ISO 13934-1 and applies to a machine direction. This range of breaking strength is sufficient to provide the storage bag with its dimensional stability, whereby permanent deformation due to repeated folding and unfolding of the main compartment can be avoided. Moreover, this contributes to good wear resistance of the woven polyester textile. In an embodiment, the woven polyester textile of the main and auxiliary compartment has a tear strength between 20 N and 100 N. The tear strength is measured according to ISO 13937-1 and applies to a machine direction. Preferably, the woven polyester textile has a tear strength in the machine direction between 23 N and 100 N, preferably between 26 N and 100 N, preferably between 29 N and 100 N, preferably between 20 N and 85 N, preferably between 23 N and 85 N, preferably between 26 N and 85 N, preferably between 29 N and 85 N, preferably between 20 N and 70 N, preferably between 23 N and 70 N, preferably between 26 N and 70 N, preferably between 29 N and 70 N, preferably between 20 N and 55 N, preferably between 23 N and 55 N, preferably between 26 N and 55 N, preferably between 29 N and 55 N, preferably between 20 N and 40 N, preferably between 23 N and 40 N, preferably between 26 N and 40 N, preferably between 29 N and 40 N. This range of tear strength is sufficient to provide the storage bag with its flexibility, whereby permanent deformation due to repeated folding and unfolding of the main compartment can be avoided. Moreover, this contributes to good wear resistance of the woven polyester textile. In an embodiment, the padding is a foamed layer. Preferably, the padding is an ethylene-vinyl acetate, a polyethylene, or a polyisoprene foam. Alternatively, the padding can be an air mesh padding made of polyester or nylon. In an embodiment, the lining of the main compartment is a 190 denier to 220 denier polyester textile. Preferably, the lining of the main compartment is a 195 denier to 215 denier polyester textile, more preferably a 200 to 210 denier polyester textile. The lining of the main compartment has a lower denier value than the outer layer of the auxiliary compartment, such as a 190 denier to 220 denier polyester textile, whereby the main compartment can be more easily folded and / or compressed without causing thickenings at a fold. In an embodiment, the first zipper comprises a slider on an inner side and an outer side of the auxiliary compartment. Both said sliders are preferably coupled to each other. Preferably, they together comprise at least one puller. The outer side is defined as a side on an exterior when the storage bag is unfolded, for both the main compartment and the auxiliary compartment. Consequently, the inner side is a side on an interior when the storage bag is unfolded, for both the main compartment and the auxiliary compartment. In an embodiment, the first zipper comprises two rows of zipper teeth on the outer side of the auxiliary compartment when the storage bag is unfolded. Preferably, both rows of zipper teeth are comprised on one side wall of the auxiliary compartment, more preferably the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment. Alternatively, one of both rows of zipper teeth is coupled to the common side wall, and a second of both rows is coupled to the side wall that is not the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment is closable with two sliders of the first zipper, which are movable independently of each other over the rows of zipper teeth of the first zipper. Preferably, the auxiliary compartment is closed when both sliders are positioned against each other. Alternatively, the auxiliary compartment can be closed by multiple zippers, each with one or more sliders. This contributes to more freedom for the traveler in using the auxiliary compartment, both if the main compartment is folded and / or compressed, or if the main compartment can be used in an unfolded state. In an embodiment, the first zipper is present on a peripheral wall of the auxiliary compartment. The first zipper on the peripheral wall is advantageous because the contents of the auxiliary compartment are thereby easily accessible to the traveler. In an embodiment, a slider on the inner side and on the outer side of the auxiliary compartment is a single slider, wherein a puller can be moved from the outer side to the inner side, and vice versa. Alternatively, a puller is present on each of the inner and outer sides of the first zipper. By being able to use a puller on both sides, the auxiliary compartment can be easily closed, whether the storage bag is folded and / or compressed, or unfolded. In an embodiment, the storage bag is a tote bag or a shoulder bag. Tote bags can be particularly interesting as travel bags, while shoulder bags are suitable for storing small items when, for example, visiting a city. Fanny packs are also considered to be shoulder bags. In an embodiment, the storage bag comprises handles, preferably two; a strap, preferably with a buckle or with a shoulder pad; or a combination thereof for carrying the storage bag. This makes it possible to carry the storage bag. In a further embodiment, the handles and the one or more straps are made of webbed synthetic material, preferably polyester or polyamide, more preferably nylon. The handles and one or more straps have a beam-shaped cross-section. The rectangular cross-section has a width of 1 cm to 5 cm, more preferably from 1.5 cm to 4.5 cm, more preferably from 1.9 cm to 3.9 cm. The rectangular cross-section has a thickness of 2 mm to 5 mm, more preferably from 2.5 mm to 4.5 mm, more preferably from 2.9 mm to 4.1 mm. In an embodiment, the buckle is made of a metal or a plastic, more preferably of polypropylene, so that a lighter storage bag can be obtained, which increases ease of use. Preferably, the buckle is a sliding buckle or a snap buckle. In an embodiment, the shoulder pad is a sandwich mesh pad. Preferably, the shoulder pad is made of foamed polypropylene. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment is provided on the front or rear side of the main compartment. The front side of the main compartment is a side that faces away from the traveler when the storage bag is being carried. Consequently, the rear side is a side that faces towards the traveler when the storage bag is being carried. The front and rear sides of the main compartment are defined when the main compartment is unfolded. In an embodiment, the storage bag comprises visual fold lines. The fold lines can assist in folding and / or compressing the storage bag. The visual fold lines are preferably foldable seams which are stitched in such a way that the seams serve as fold lines. This simplifies the folding and / or compressing of the storage bag. In an embodiment, the side walls of the main compartment are connected to each other by partition walls on at least parts of edges of the side walls of the main compartment. The said edges are adjacent to the edge of each side wall with the base. Preferably, the main compartment comprises four partition walls, which are coupled in pairs between the said edges of the side walls. The partition walls are coupled to each other, each with a first foldable seam, whereby the said edges can fold towards each other. The first foldable seams extend perpendicular to a plane in which the base extends. Preferably, a symmetry of the coupled partition walls is thereby obtained. Consequently, the main compartment can be folded more easily. In an embodiment, the main compartment is reducible in size, whereby the base is located closer to the peripheral wall of the auxiliary compartment. A second zipper in a closed position ensures that the main compartment is in a reduced state. Two rows of zipper teeth of the second zipper are, over at least three quarters of their extent, positioned substantially parallel to the edge at which the base adjoins the side walls. One of the two rows of zipper teeth is located on the edge at which the base adjoins the side walls. In an embodiment, the main compartment is closable with a third zipper. Preferably, each row of zipper teeth of the third zipper is positioned on an opposite edge of the side walls of the main compartment relative to the edge of the said side walls with the base. Hereby, the main compartment, when unfolded, will comprise a closable opening opposite the base for placing and removing items in the storage bag. Alternatively, a first row of zipper teeth of the third zipper is positioned on an edge of one of the side walls of the main compartment with the base, and a second row of zipper teeth of the third zipper is positioned on an edge of the base at the said side wall. In an embodiment, the main compartment comprises one or more snap fasteners. The one or more snap fasteners are preferably provided with a first half of a snap fastener at a connection between both side walls of the main compartment. The said connection is located at the third zipper. And with a second half of a snap fastener on the partition walls, preferably at the foldable seam. This allows the main compartment to be compressed when the main compartment is unfolded, allowing a volume of the main compartment to decrease according to the volume occupied by the items in the main compartment. This advantage applies correspondingly to the second zipper. In an embodiment, the storage bag comprises a luggage sleeve compartment. The luggage sleeve compartment is sewn to the main compartment with edges which are substantially perpendicular to the base of the storage bag. The luggage sleeve compartment is comprised on the outer side of the main compartment when the storage bag is unfolded. Preferably, the luggage sleeve compartment is comprised on the side wall of the main compartment which is not coupled to the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment. This offers the possibility to slide the storage bag over a handle of a hard-shell travel bag on wheels and a retractable handle. Preferably, the luggage compartment is comprised on the rear side of the main compartment. In an embodiment, the main compartment comprises inner pockets sewn onto the backing layer of one of the side walls which adjoins the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment. Preferably, the inner pockets are formed from the same textile as the backing layer of the main compartment. Preferably, the inner pockets have an opening directed away from the base, whereby the inner pockets are still accessible when the storage bag is folded into the auxiliary compartment. For example, the inner pockets are suitable for storing fountain pens, coins, credit cards, and / or other items. Preferably, the inner pockets comprise an RFID blocking layer. In an embodiment, a clip is coupled to one of the one or more straps or one of the handles near a coupling of the one or more straps or one of the handles. The clip is preferably concealable between the one of the one or more straps or one of the handles and a covering piece of textile. The covering piece of textile is stitched onto the one of the one or more straps or one of the handles with an opening towards the main compartment. Preferably, the covering piece of textile has the same composition as the backing layer. "Near" in this context is a maximum of 5% removed from the said coupling. 5% is according to the total length of the one of the one or more straps or one of the handles in which these extend. The clip can be hooked into one or more pullers, whereby the third zipper cannot open during movement of the storage bag. In an embodiment, the side wall of the main compartment which is coupled to the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment comprises one or more bottle holder pockets. Preferably, the one or more bottle holder pockets are positioned on either side of the auxiliary compartment and oriented such that a bottle can be held vertically in the bottle holder pockets when using the storage bag when it is unfolded. Preferably, the bottle holder pockets are comprised on the front side of the main compartment. In an embodiment, the auxiliary compartment, with an edge of the common side wall and the peripheral wall that does not comprise a first zipper, is positioned on an edge of the side wall, to which the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment is coupled, and the base of the main compartment. Hereby, the side wall of the auxiliary compartment, which is not the common side, is foldable around the main compartment when it is folded and / or compressed. In an alternative embodiment, the auxiliary compartment is centrally positioned on the side wall of the main compartment to which the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment is coupled. By centrally positioned is meant that a connecting line between a midpoint of the said side wall of the main compartment and a midpoint of the common side wall of the auxiliary compartment describes the shortest possible distance. In an embodiment, the storage bag comprises a reconfigurable zipper. Hereby, the storage bag has the possibility to close the auxiliary compartment in two different ways if the main compartment is folded and / or compressed. The two different ways are: on the one hand, the first zipper can be closed; and on the other hand, one of the rows of zipper teeth of the first zipper can be correspondingly used together with an additional row of zipper teeth on a side wall of the main compartment, which does not adjoin the auxiliary compartment of the storage bag, making a fourth zipper closable. Preferably, the one of the rows of the first zipper is coupled with the side wall of the auxiliary compartment which is not the common side wall. The main compartment is compressed but is still accessible for storing items.
