Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to the bag industry and, more particularly to a bag for picnics. BACKGROUND

[0002] When people go for a picnic in the outdoors, it is useful to have a mat to sit on. However, picnics require many items for a person to carry to the picnic site.

[0003] People often use picnic hampers to carry those items. However, hampers are large and non-compressible, so they take up space (particularly in the trunk of a car) even when they contain no items in their internal compartment.

[0004] It can be awkward to carry both a picnic rug and a hamper to the picnic site.

[0005] The object of the present invention is to provide a picnic rug which can function as a bag for holding items. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] According to the present invention, there is provided a picnic rug bag for a person to hold items, the picnic rug bag comprising: (a) a foldable mat; (b) a fastener on the sides of the foldable mat for holding the foldable mat together; (c) a compartment formed between the fastened sides of the foldable mat; and (d) one or more straps on the foldable mat for a person to carry the picnic rug bag, wherein the foldable mat can be folded into a bag and held together with the fastener so that the person can carry items in the compartment of the picnic rug bag using the straps.

[0007] Preferably, the fastener is a zipper, but it may also be a hook and loop fastener, or press stud buttons, for example.

[0010] The foldable mat may have pockets to enable the person to carry items outside of the compartment.

[0022] Figure 1 shows a picnic rug bag 10 with people 12 sitting on it.

[0023] The picnic rug bag 10 has a foldable mat 14. The foldable mat 14 has a zipper 16 on the sides of the foldable mat 14 for holding the foldable mat together, when folded (as shown in figure 4). 2026201343   23 Feb 2026

[0024] The zipper 16 is one form of fastener. However, any form of fastener is within the scope and ambit of the invention, such as a hook and loop fastener, or press stud buttons, for example.

[0025] Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5 show the steps in the process of folding the foldable mat 14 to form the picnic rug bag 10.

[0026] As shown in figure 8, the picnic rug bag 10 has a compartment 18 formed between the fastened sides of the foldable mat. The compartment 18 can hold items 20 (as shown in figure 8). The compartment 18 may be lined with insulating material.

[0027] The picnic rug bag 10 has hand straps 22 and 24 for the people 12 to carry the picnic rug bag 10.

[0028] Another embodiment of the invention is shown in figure 9, in which a picnic rug bag 26 has back straps 28 and 30, along with a mat 32 with zippers 34. The picnic rug bag 26 has a flap 36 to cover its compartment (not shown).

[0029] The foldable mat may have pockets to enable the person to carry items outside of the compartment.

[0030] The picnic rug bags of the present invention thereby fulfil the object of the invention to provide a picnic rug which can function as a bag for holding items.

Claims

1. A picnic rug bag for a person to hold items, the picnic rug bag comprising:(a) a foldable mat;(b) fasteners arranged along opposing peripheral edges of the foldable mat for holding the foldable mat together;(c) a compartment formed between the fastened sides of the foldable mat; and(d) one or more straps on the foldable mat for a person to carry the picnic rug bag;wherein the foldable mat can be folded into a bag and held together with the fastener so that the person can carry items in the compartment of the picnic rug bag using the straps.

2. The picnic rug bag of claim 1, wherein the fastener is a zipper.

3. The picnic rug bag of claim 1, wherein the compartment is lined with insulating material.

4. The picnic rug bag of claim 1, wherein the straps are a pair of back straps.

5. The picnic rug bag of claim 1, wherein the straps are a pair of handles.

6. The picnic rug bag of claim 1, wherein the foldable mat has pockets to enable the person tocarry items outside of the compartment.

7. A picnic rug bag substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
