Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of storage tanks or containers, and in particular, to a cryogenic liquid cargo system for containing or storing liquefied natural gas (LNG), a corrugated plate used for the cryogenic liquid cargo system and a shielding layer including the corrugated plate. BACKGROUND

[0002] A liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank, as a container for containing and storing LNG, includes both LNG storage tanks on land and LNG storage tanks on marine vessels, with operating temperature usually being as low as -163°C. A sealing shielding layer used to contact LNG in the storage tank is normally composed of corrugated metal plates, and these corrugations form circulation channels for gas in a thermal insulation layer. Since the shielding layer is at an extremely low temperature of about -163°C, while a thermal insulation layer or a support structure is at a relatively high temperature of about 20°C, a thermal siphon effect occurs in an inclined wall that forms an angle with a horizontal direction, such as a vertical wall of the storage tank, where a circulation of gas (or gas mixture) near the interior of the storage tank is cooled, causing the circulation to descend relative to a vertical direction (in the channels formed by the corrugations) between the sealing layer and the thermal insulation layer, while a circulation of gas near the exterior of the storage tank is heated, causing the circulation to rise relative to the vertical direction between the sealing layer and the thermal insulation layer or between the thermal insulation layer and the support wall. The cooled gas circulation and the heated gas circulation form a closed loop at an end of the wall of the storage tank, transferring convective heat through the support wall of the storage tank. The continuous convective circulation of gas flow will exacerbate cold loss, increase the evaporation rate of the liquefied natural gas, and seriously restrict the cold insulation efficiency and economy of the storage tank.

[0003] Accordingly, there is a need to provide a corrugated plate, a shielding layer including the corrugated plate, and a cryogenic liquid cargo system including the shielding layer, so as to 2026204740   02 Oct 2026 block the formation of continuous circulation channels in the thermal insulation layer, thereby limiting natural convection phenomena. [0040] Specific embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. It should be noted that the description here is only based on the preferred embodiments of the present invention, and those skilled in the art can think of other ways to implement the present invention on the basis of the preferred embodiments, and the other ways also fall within the scope of the present invention.

[0041] The present invention provides a corrugated plate, a shielding layer composed of a plurality of corrugated plates spliced together, and a cryogenic liquid cargo system including the shielding layer. The corrugated plate is preferably made of a metal material such as steel or an aluminum alloy, and is suitable for use in manufacturing storage containers, in particular cryogenic liquid cargo systems for storing liquefied gases such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen, liquid helium, in marine or land-based engineering equipment. The cryogenic liquid cargo system may be a storage tank for storing cryogenic liquids. The preferred embodiments of the corrugated plate, the shielding layer, and the cryogenic liquid cargo system according to the present invention will be described below with reference to FIGS. 1-8. 2026204740   18 Jun 2026

[0042] As shown in FIG. 1, the corrugated plate 100 is processed from a flat metal plate, and its length and width can be between 0.3m and 3.6m, and those skilled in the art can process it according to actual needs. The corrugated plate 100 includes a generally rectangular corrugated plate planar layer 110 and corrugations formed on the corrugated plate planar layer 110. The corrugated plate plane layer 110 is a generally flat structure and is divided into two regions: a main body portion 111 and an edge portion 112. The edge portion 112 is provided around the main body portion 111 and is mainly used to connect with an edge portion 112 of another adjacent corrugated plate. For example, the edge portions 112 of two corrugated plates can be connected in a sealed manner by welding. In a preferred embodiment, the main body portion 111 and the edge portion 112 are integrally formed as a whole, thereby ensuring the overall strength and sealing performance of the corrugated plate 100.

[0043] The corrugations include a first corrugation 120 and a second corrugation 130. Both the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 are in an extended configuration and intersect with each other, forming a junction portion 151 at a junction position. The junction portion 151 has a specific knot structure, so that a structural strength of the corrugated plate 100 at the junction position can be enhanced, which is beneficial for prolonging its service life. In the illustrated embodiment, the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 are orthogonal. It can be understood that in other embodiments not shown, the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 may also be oblique to each other. A quantity of the first corrugations 120 and a quantity of the second corrugations 130 may be 1-12, depending on the overall size of the corrugated plate 100. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, the quantity of the first corrugations 120 is 6, and the quantity of the second corrugations 130 is 2. Of course, those skilled in the art may set other numbers of the first corrugations 120 and the second corrugations 130 according to actual needs. The first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 together form a grid-like corrugation structure on the corrugated plate 100, so that the corrugated plate 100 can absorb thermal stress and mechanical stress caused by temperature change or internal pressure fluctuation in a plurality of directions.

[0044] Preferably, the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 have different widths and heights from each other. In particular, a width of the first corrugation 120 is greater than that of the second corrugation 130, and a height of the first corrugation 120 is greater than that of the second corrugation 130. The “width” of the corrugation mentioned here refers to a maximum horizontal dimension of the corrugation perpendicular to its longitudinal extension direction, and the “height” of the corrugation refers to a vertical distance between a highest point 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 of the corrugation and the corrugated plate planar layer. The “longitudinal extension direction” is relative to each individual corrugation, which is a lengthwise direction of the individual corrugation, that is, an extension direction of the corrugation channel. For example, as shown in FIG. 1, the longitudinal extension direction of the first corrugation 120 is direction D1 in the figure, and the longitudinal extension direction of the second corrugation 130 is direction D2 in the figure. Referring to characteristics such as height and width, the first corrugation 120 may also be referred to as a large corrugation, and the second corrugation 130 may also be referred to as a small corrugation.

[0045] In an embodiment, each of the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 includes, in its longitudinal extension direction, at least one convex portion 121 and at least one concave portion 122 adjacent to the at least one convex portion 121, rather than a single continuous protrusion or depression form. In particular, each of the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 further includes a twisted portion 140 located at a junction portion of the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 for linking the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 together in the respective longitudinal extension directions of the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130. The convex portion 121 protrudes towards an interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system relative to the corrugated plate planar layer 110, while the concave portion 122 protrudes away from the interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system relative to the corrugated plate planar layer 110. It should be noted that the “protrude” and the “recess” are both relative to the interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system, the “protrude” means extending along a direction towards the interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system, while the “recess” means extending along a direction towards the exterior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system. This convex-concave cooperation design has brought significant technical effects, which breaks the restriction that the corrugations of a traditional corrugated plate are monotonous over the entire length. By providing the convex portion 121, the concave portion 122 and the twisted portion 140 connecting the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 in the longitudinal extension direction of the corrugation, an original continuous channel is blocked by the convex-concave cooperation structure (i.e. the twisted portion 140), thereby destroying the conditions for forming stable convection of gas in the long continuous channel. This inhibits heat transfer, improves the thermal insulation performance of the cryogenic liquid cargo system and effectively reduces the evaporation of the LNG in the cryogenic liquid cargo system, and further reduces cargo loss.

[0046] In an embodiment, the twisted portion is spaced apart from the junction portion 151 of the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130. The term “spaced apart from” as used 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 herein means that the two components are not adjacent to each other. That is to say, a connection between the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 is spaced apart from and not adjacent to the junction portion 151 of the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130. The junction portion 151 is usually a location with complex stress. By arranging the “transition connection part” where the shape of the corrugations changes away from the junction portion 151, additional stress changes can be avoided from being superimposed in the stress concentration region, thereby further improving the overall fatigue life of the corrugated plate 100.

[0047] Preferably, the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 have the same convex-concave structure configuration. Therefore, for the sake of simplicity, only the first corrugation 120 will be described in detail below. However, it should be understood that those skilled in the art may also set the first corrugation 120 and the second corrugation 130 to have different convex-concave structure configurations.

[0048] In a preferred embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1, the first corrugation 120 includes a middle section 161 on the main body portion 111 and two edge sections 162 on the edge portion 112. The middle section 161 forms a concave portion 122 that is recessed relative to the corrugated plate planar layer 110, and the two edge sections 162 form convex portions 121 protruding relative to the corrugated plate planar layer 110, that is to say, the first corrugation 120 forms a “convex-concave-convex” structural configuration in its longitudinal extension direction D1. The convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 smoothly transition at the twisted portion 140 along the longitudinal extension direction D1 of the first corrugation 120 and are connected in a sealed manner, together forming a complete corrugation unit. In a preferred embodiment, the twisted portion 140 has a curved shape, which can effectively avoid stress concentration. As shown in FIG. 1, the connecting curved surface includes an inward concave structure 142 with a larger curvature radius. In other embodiments, the connecting curved surface may also be configured as an outward convex structure 241 (as shown in FIG. 2), or the connecting curved surface may also include both an outward convex structure and an inward concave structure. For example, in the region near the convex portion 121, it is the outward convex structure, and in the region near the concave portion 122, it is the inward concave structure. Those skilled in the art can make configurations according to actual needs.

[0049] In the above solution, each edge section 162 of the first corrugation 120 is provided as the convex portion 121, so that when two corrugated plates 100 with the same structure are connected, the protruding edge section 162 of one corrugated plate 100 may overlap the edge section 162 of the other corrugated plate 100 which also protrudes, making it convenient for 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 welding. Furthermore, the middle section 161 of the first corrugation 120 is provided as the concave portion 122, so that the concave portion 122 can be easily supported and borne by the thermal insulation layer on the outer side of the corrugated plate, without the need to place additional reinforcements on the outer side of the corrugation, which not only improves the pressure-bearing capacity, but also expands the loading capacity of the cryogenic liquid cargo system.

[0050] The present invention provides a variety of flexible variations to the distribution of the convex portions and the concave portions on a single corrugation, so as to adapt to different connection requirements and stress conditions. This will be described in detail below.

[0051] In the corrugated plate 200 shown in FIG. 2, the convex portion 221 of the first corrugation 220 is provided on the main body portion 211, and the concave portions connected to the convex portion 221 are provided on the edge portions 212 at both ends. That is to say, the first corrugation 220 forms a “concave-convex-concave” structural configuration in its longitudinal extension direction D1. The convex portion 221 and the concave portion 222 smoothly transition at the twisted portions 240 along the longitudinal extension direction D1 of the first corrugation 220 and are connected in a sealed manner, together forming a complete corrugation unit.

[0052] In another embodiment, the middle section of the first corrugation (i.e. the section provided on the main body portion) may also include a combination of the convex portion and the concave portion, rather than only a single convex portion or concave portion. The edge section may include only the convex portion or only the concave portion, or may include the concave portion on one side and the convex portion on the other side. The middle section may include a convex portion and a concave portion, and may also include a plurality of convex portions and a plurality of concave portions. For example, the corrugation shape of the first corrugation may be convex (edge)-concave-convex-concave-convex (edge) or convex (edge)-convex-concave-convex (edge), or concave (edge)-concave-convex-concave (edge), or convex (edge)-concave-convex-concave (edge), etc., which can be set by those skilled in the art according to actual needs.

[0053] In yet another embodiment, the entire corrugations including the first corrugation and the second corrugation is provided only on the main body portion, and the edge portion is configured as a flat structure without any corrugation undulations. This design simplifies the shape of the edge portion so that the edge portions of two corrugated plates can be lap welded or butt welded in a plane-to-plane manner. Each of the first corrugation and the second corrugation may include a convex portion and a concave portion, and may also include a plurality of convex portions and a plurality of concave portions. 2026204740   18 Jun 2026

[0054] The cross-sections of the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 taken perpendicular to the longitudinal extension direction of the corrugation may have various shapes. In some embodiments, both the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 may have a semicircular cross-section. For example, referring to FIG. 1, the cross-sections of the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 are each formed as a semi-circle, and the top end of each of the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 is formed as a circular arc without angular corners, and this shape has a smooth transition and minimal stress concentration. Of course, it should be understood that, in other embodiments, the cross-sections of the convex portion 121 and the concave portion 122 may be semi-elliptic, U-shaped, triangular, rectangular, polygonal, or irregularly shaped. In an embodiment, the cross-sectional shape of each of the convex portion 121 and / or the concave portion 122 may include a protruding part protruding relative to the interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system and a recessed part recessed relative to the interior of the cryogenic liquid cargo system. For example, it may include two recessed parts and one protruding part to form a wavy shape.

[0055] In order to facilitate the welding between two adjacent corrugated plates 100, preferably, as shown in FIG. 3, the edge portion 112 of the corrugated plate 100 (including the edge section 162 of the corrugation having the convex portion 121 or the concave portion 122) is provided with a stepped portion 150 formed by upward or downward pressing, and the stepped portion 150 may facilitate the lapping of the edge portions 112 of two adjacent corrugated plates 100 at the stepped portion 150, thereby ensuring that the welding heat source can uniformly act on the two overlapped plates, thereby forming a dense and reliable weld. Further preferably, a height of the stepped portion 150 is comparable to a thickness of the corrugated plate 100, such that the junction portion of the two corrugated plates 100 has a smooth surface after the lapping is completed.

[0056] The present invention also provides a shielding layer for a cryogenic liquid cargo system, and the shielding layer is composed of a plurality of corrugated plates spliced together in a sealed manner.

[0057] In a preferred embodiment, the shielding layer 170 is formed by splicing the plurality of corrugated plates 100 in a sealed manner as described in any one of the above embodiments. Preferably, the plurality of corrugated plates 100 have the same structure as each other, and the plurality of corrugated plates 100 have the same orientation in the spliced state.

[0058] As shown in FIG. 4, in an embodiment, the concave portions 122 of the corrugations of each corrugated plate in the shielding layer 170 are provided on the main body portions 111 and the convex portions 121 are provided on the edge portions 112. The convex portions 121 of two 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 adjacent corrugated plates 100 may be lapped or butted against each other, and connected in a sealed manner through a weld.

[0059] As shown in FIG. 5, in an embodiment, the convex portions 221 of the corrugations of each corrugated plate in the shielding layer 270 are provided on the main body portions 211 and the concave portions 222 are provided on the edge portions 212. The concave portions 222 of two adjacent corrugated plates may be lapped or butted against each other, and connected in a sealed manner through a weld.

[0060] In another embodiment not shown, both the convex portions and the concave portions of the corrugations can be provided on the main body portions, and the edge portions are in a flat plate structure, so that the flat plate edges of adjacent corrugated plates are directly connected by a butt weld or a lap weld.

[0061] In another preferred embodiment, the shielding layer can be formed by splicing, in a sealed manner, the corrugated plate 100 with the concave portion 122 or the convex portion 121 provided on the edge portion 112 as shown in FIG. 1 or FIG. 2 and an additional corrugated plate 100’ in the prior art. The additional corrugated plate 100’ may be a conventional corrugated plate structure in the prior art. For example, the additional corrugated plate 100’ may include an additional corrugated plate planar layer 110’ and one or more additional corrugations 120’ formed on the additional corrugated plate planar layer 110’, where the additional corrugations 120’ also include two intersecting corrugations, and each corrugation extends from one end of the additional corrugated plate planar layer 110’ to the other end. The additional corrugations 120’ only protrude or are only recessed relative to the additional corrugated plate planar layer 110’, that is to say, each of the intersecting corrugations formed on the additional corrugated plate 100’ is a single continuous protrusion or a single continuous depression in its longitudinal extension direction. Moreover, the additional corrugations 120’ are comparable to the corrugations of the corrugated plate 100 in size and spacing. When splicing the corrugated plate 100 and the additional corrugated plate 100’ together, the protruding or recessed portions of the additional corrugation 120’ are aligned and butted against the convex portion 121 or the concave portion 122 of the corrugated plate 100. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, the shielding layer 370 includes a corrugated plate 100 with the convex portions 121 provided on the edge portions 112 as shown in FIG.1 and an additional corrugated plate 100’, where the additional corrugations 120’ of the additional corrugated plate 100’ protrude relative to the additional corrugated plate planar layer 110’. During splicing, the protruding additional corrugations 120’ are butted against the convex portions 121 of the corrugated plate 100 on the edge portions 112. In other embodiments not shown, the additional 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 corrugations of the additional corrugated plate may also be recessed relative to the additional corrugated plate planar layer, and in this case, the additional corrugated plate may be connected to the corrugated plate 200 with the concave portion 222 provided at the edge portion 212 as shown in FIG. 2.

[0062] The shielding layer 370 formed by this splicing method splices the corrugated plate having the concave-convex cooperation structure formed according to the design solution of the present invention and the corrugated plate in the prior art together. Therefore, even if the corrugated plate in the prior art has continuous channels, the shielding layer 370 can still bring significant technical effects as mentioned above, since the concave-convex cooperation structure in the corrugated plate of the present invention can block the continuous channels in the existing corrugated plate, thereby disrupting the conditions for forming stable convection of gas in long continuous channels.

[0063] The present invention also provides a cryogenic liquid cargo system, which can be a storage tank for storing cryogenic liquid. The cryogenic liquid cargo system has a container wall. FIG. 7 illustrates a part of the container wall of the cryogenic liquid cargo system according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 7, both the first shielding layer 181 and the second shielding layer 183 adopt the 2026204740   18 Jun 2026 corrugated plate structure shown in FIG. 1, that is, the concave portions 122 are provided on the main body portion 111 of the corrugated plate 100, and the convex portions 121 are provided on the edge portions 112 of the corrugated plate 100. Furthermore, the orientations of the corrugated plates 100 in the first shielding layer 181 are the same as those in the second shielding layer 183, that is, the protruding directions of the corrugations on the corrugated plates of the first shielding layer 181 and the second shielding layer 183 are the same. In other embodiments not shown, both the first shielding layer 181 and the second shielding layer 183 may also adopt the corrugated plate structure shown in FIG. 2, that is, the convex portions 221 are provided on the main body portion 211 of the corrugated plate 200 and the concave portions 222 are provided on the edge portions 212 of the corrugated plate 200.

[0065] In another preferred embodiment, the first shielding layer 181 and the second shielding layer 183 may have the same structure but adopt opposite orientations. The second shielding layer 183 may also adopt the corrugated plate structure shown in FIG. 1, but is arranged in an orientation opposite to that of the first shielding layer 181, that is, the convex portions 121 are provided on the main body portion 111 of the corrugated plate 100, and the concave portions 122 are provided on the edge portions 112 of the corrugated plate 100. Alternatively, the first shielding layer 181 may adopt the corrugated plate structure shown in FIG. 2, that is, the concave portions 222 are provided on the main body portion 211 of the corrugated plate 200, and the convex portions 221 are provided on the edge portion 212 of the corrugated plate 200. The second shielding layer 183 may also adopt the corrugated plate structure shown in FIG. 2, but is arranged in an orientation opposite to the first shielding layer 181, that is, the convex portions 221 are provided on the main body portion 211 of the corrugated plate 200 and the concave portions 222 are provided on the edge portions 212 of the corrugated plate 200.
