Abstract

Abstract An implantable device for supporting an intraocular lens (IOL) in an eye, the device comprising: a support structure comprising: a central axis; an outer perimeter wall; an anterior wall extending inwardly towards the central axis from an anterior portion of the outer perimeter wall; a posterior wall extending inwardly towards the central axis from a posterior portion of the outer perimeter wall; a central aperture extending through a full thickness of the support structure; and and a recess for accepting at least a portion of a haptic of the IOL upon implantation of the IOL in the device, wherein the recess is bounded by a portion of the outer perimeter wall, a portion of the anterior wall and a portion of the posterior wall; and wherein the outer perimeter wall of the support structure comprises a first shape, wherein an inner perimeter of the anterior wall comprises a second shape, the second shape comprising a first area, and wherein an inner perimeter of the posterior wall comprises a third shape centered on the central axis, and wherein the third shape comprises a second area smaller than the first area, and wherein the third shape of the inner perimeter of the posterior wall is different in both size and shape from both (i) the first shape of the outer perimeter wall and (ii) the second shape of the inner perimeter of the anterior wall.
