Abstract

The invention relates to a plunger assembly of a rod well pump used in the oil and gas industry. The plunger of a rod well pump, unlike existing plunger assemblies, consists of grooves and holes arranged in a checkerboard pattern along the entire body, starting from a distance of 120 mm from the lower and upper parts, with a pitch angle of 45° around the circumference. This arrangement allows for an even distribution of pressure and wear loads on the surface of the plunger and increases the longevity of the unit. The holes in a checkerboard pattern change the direction of the fluid flow, reducing its speed and limiting its throughput. The grooves and the holes in a checkerboard pattern significantly reduce backflow in the cylinder-plunger pair and stabilize the pump operation. The proposed design increases the wear resistance and performance of the plunger, thereby increasing pump reliability, extending service intervals, and reducing operating costs. The invention is especially effective in sandy and heavy oil wells, as the grooves and holes minimize wear caused by the impact of hard particles. Also, the grooves located on the plunger clean the sand plug accumulated inside the cylinder during its up-and-down movement, thus preventing the plunger from getting stuck inside the cylinder, ensuring uninterrupted and stable operation of the pump.
