Description

1 Reusable and adjustable cigar band Technical domain The invention described in this document relates to the world of cigars, specifically that of cigar bands. There are various stories regarding the origin of cigar bands. One reason is said to be to prevent fingers or white gloves from getting dirty with oil from the wrapper leaf. Another reason is, of course, that cigar brands wanted to distinguish themselves from one another. A cigar band can also be a nice conversation starter for the cigar enthusiast. Talking about the different brands and types of cigars is simply a fascinating subject for the enthusiast. A cigar band can offer extra protection when holding the cigar, especially with a thinner and more fragile wrapper leaf. Problem Statement 15: The paper cigar bands that hang around cigars today are made for single use. Nowadays, there are quite a few cigars that have not one, but two or more bands around them. This is because, in a growing market, the cigar manufacturer must be able to distinguish itself from the competition at a glance. In view of changing legislation, there is a chance that the cigar band as we know it will disappear. The charm of a cigar band will be hard for many enthusiasts to imagine without. With a view to a circular and ecologically friendly economy, the traditional single-use cigar band is no longer desirable today, and an alternative could potentially take its place. Modern technology (laser, environmentally friendly ink, etc.) offers sufficient options for cigar brands to distinguish themselves using materials more sustainable than paper. For cigar enthusiasts, there are therefore options regarding personalized and sustainable bands. In my research, I encountered several patents that have proposed an attempt at an alternative. In patent AT11180U1, from 2010, a cigar band is described that attaches itself around the cigar with the aid of magnetism. This seems like a nice solution on paper, but through experimentation I have encountered problems myself. The flexible magnetic material required for a connection is actually quite thick, making it difficult to fit the cigar band around the cigar and causing the band itself to be stiff. The connection is also not very solid. Thinner material exists, but that connection comes loose even more easily. You can use a stronger (read: larger and thicker) magnet, but then ease of use is compromised again. Patent US2015201672A1, from 2015, describes a 'ring' that can open and close via a spring mechanism. This is a durable idea in terms of reusability. However, it is not adjustable, so it is actually only usable for one specific cigar thickness. In short, a durable, reusable, and adjustable cigar band that can form a firm band without being inconvenient has not yet been developed. BE2025 / 0001 2 Presentation of the invention The cigar band I am presenting here aims to combine the charm of a traditional 45 cigar band and durability. An additional practical use is that you can also use it as a cigar stand. The cigar band can take on different shapes and colors and consist of different materials. This material is preferably durable, flexible and possibly elastic. However, the material must not be too flexible or elastic if you also want to use the band as a cigar stand. A first version of the cigar band(1) has a string(2) at one end, preferably made of elastic material and preferably in a loop. It can also be a string with a small ring or loop attached to another material. The use of something elastic in this attachment promotes the tension that can be applied to the band, so that it stays firmly around the cigar. A little off-center in the cigar band (in the direction of the aforementioned string) is an attachment point(3). Here, for example, a hook(4) can be attached to form a loop, but this can also be a small loop around which you can tie a knot in the case of a simple string. This must be tightened sufficiently.60 From the opposite end towards the middle there are holes (5) that are large enough to thread a loop or string through. The number of holes, as well as their positioning, depends on the desired adjustability. Depending on the flexibility and / or elasticity of the material from which the cigar band is made, one opening can possibly serve for multiple cigar sizes. 65 An alternative version is a cigar band (8) made of durable material from which a strip (9) or strips of moldable material is attached from one end to the other end, along the front or back, possibly along both sides. A strip on the front can, for example, be a decorative strip. In this way you can form a band, whether or not completely closed, around the cigar. Of course, the moldable material must not be too thick, for example a thin 70 aluminium strip. Along the top edge of the cigar band there are two notches on either side of the center (6). If you fasten the cigar band at the widest setting, not around a cigar, it can be placed on a table, for example.A cigar (7) can then be placed in those recesses and thus the cigar band can also function as a cigar stand. 75 In the free space of the cigar band a motif, image, text, relief, extra decorations, a decorative strip, etc. can be applied as desired.
