Description
1 / 7 BIODEGRADABLE BALLOT BOX Field of Invention
[001] The present invention relates to a biodegradable urn, applied to the funeral sector for humans and pets, made from an innovative material composed of coconut fiber and natural latex. The invention offers an ecological and sustainable solution for farewell rituals, with innovative characteristics that promote respect for the environment, the symbolism of rebirth, and the possibility of planting. Furthermore, the biodegradable urn is designed to be used both on land and in water, without leaving chemical residues or floating, ensuring complete integration with the environment. Background of the Invention
[002] Growing concern about the environmental impact of synthetic materials, especially in the funeral industry, has encouraged the development of sustainable alternatives that respect the environment and meet the emotional and cultural needs of saying goodbye to loved ones, whether human or pets.
[003] Currently, traditional funerary urns are predominantly manufactured with non-biodegradable materials, such as plastics or metals, which take hundreds of years to decompose and can release toxic substances into the soil or water, compromising the environmental balance. Furthermore, solutions that combine practical functionality and symbolism, such as urns intended for planting, are still limited in the market.
[004] The state of the art already presents some initiatives aimed at biodegradable urns. Documents such as BR102022019732-6, for example, describe a biodegradable urn developed to hold the cremation ashes of both deceased people and domestic animals, with a model specifically designed to hold such funerary ashes, made from biodegradable materials and a receptacle to hold a plant seed which, when buried in a natural space, the whole Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, p. 7 / 19 2 / 7 gives rise to the germination process of the week, allowing it to constitute a form of tribute to that person or animal that has passed away.
[005] Another known example in the state of the art is BR102013034043-0 which describes a universal ecological funerary urn manufactured in three hot-compression molded and interlocking parts, an urn body, an inner safety lid and an outer lid, which can be used as an ordinary urn or as a special urn for transfers, being manufactured in thermoplastic starch (TPS) biocomposite material reinforced with coconut fiber powder, surface waterproofed with ecological varnish (water-based).
[006] Furthermore, many existing biodegradable urns in the state of the art do not possess properties that directly benefit planting, such as the ability to fully integrate into the biological cycle of plants without harming the soil or roots of the site.
[007] Thus, the absence of a biodegradable urn that combines sustainability, functionality in various ceremonies, beneficial characteristics for the environment (such as the natural fungicide of coconut fiber) and the ability to symbolize rebirth through planting, reveals a gap in the state of the art that the present invention seeks to fill.
[008] Therefore, it is observed that, in the state of the art, there is no solution that combines all the desired attributes: complete biodegradability, non-floating for rituals in water, absence of chemical residues, ideal properties for plant growth and an innovative design that meets the needs of the human and pet funeral sector. Objectives of the Invention
[009] The present invention aims to provide an innovative biodegradable urn, manufactured from a composite material made of coconut fiber and natural latex, intended for the human and pet funeral sector, which decomposes sustainably in the environment without leaving chemical residues. Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, page 8 / 19 3 / 7
[010] The present invention also aims to offer a symbolic and functional solution that promotes rebirth through planting, since the coconut fiber used in its manufacture has natural fungicidal properties, allowing the healthy growth of plant roots that penetrate the urn material.
[011] Another objective of the invention is to allow farewell ceremonies in aquatic environments, such as seas or lakes, ensuring that the urn does not float, unlike other solutions available on the market, fulfilling a symbolic and cultural desire of many families.
[012] Furthermore, the invention seeks to fill a gap in the state of the art by combining sustainability, functionality and innovation, with a 100% biodegradable product, adapted for different types of ceremonies and respecting the environmental and emotional needs of users.
[013] Finally, the invention aims to contribute to reducing the environmental impact caused by traditional urns, offering an environmentally friendly and economically viable alternative for the funeral sector, reinforcing the importance of environmental preservation and the symbolism of the renewal of life. Summary of the Invention
[014] In its preferred configuration, the present invention discloses a biodegradable urn comprising: a main body made from coconut fiber and natural latex, configured to contain human remains; an adjustable top lid configured to be in contact with the main body in a removable manner and sealed with latex; and ergonomic handles integrated into the main body to facilitate transport. The material of the main body is composed of 70 to 85% coconut fiber and 30 to 15% natural latex.
[015] The biodegradable urn also includes an internal compartment for storing seeds or seedlings, located inside the main body. The adjustable top lid is designed to seal the contents of the urn, protecting them, and is removable to allow access to the interior. Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, page 9 / 19 4 / 7
[016] The ergonomic handles are molded directly into the main body, with side reinforcements to ensure safe transport. In one configuration, the biodegradable urn also includes a biodegradable decorative outer coating, containing natural pigments and customizable information, such as names, dates or messages, engraved directly into the material.
[017] In a first model of the biodegradable urn, the main body has a cylindrical shape and the adjustable top lid also has a cylindrical shape, so as to form a biodegradable urn that is symmetrical with respect to the horizontal axis. In a second model of the biodegradable urn, the main body has a cubic shape and the adjustable top lid consists of a rectangular plate, so as to form a biodegradable urn in a box shape. In a third model of the biodegradable urn, the main body has a cylindrical shape and the adjustable top lid also has a cylindrical shape with a hollow top face, further comprising an accessory vessel, also made of a mixture of coconut fiber and natural latex, configured to be placed in the opening of the top face of the adjustable top lid. [022] The present invention discloses an innovative biodegradable urn, manufactured from coconut fiber and natural latex, intended for the sustainable burial of ashes of Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, p. 10 / 19 5 / 7 humans and pets, allowing for decomposition that is fully integrated into the environment, leaving no chemical residue. The invention also includes features that allow for symbolic and functional use, such as planting seeds or seedlings directly in the urn.
[023] Such a biodegradable urn comprises, in its preferred configuration, a main body (1), an adjustable top lid (3) and ergonomic handles (5), each component being detailed below.
[024] The main body (1) is the main structure of the urn, being manufactured from a special material composed of a mixture of coconut fiber and natural latex. In its preferred configuration, the mixture has a proportion between 70 and 85% coconut fiber and between 30 and 15% natural latex, the most preferred proportion being 80% coconut fiber and 20% natural latex. Based on the proportion of this mixture, the coconut fibers are held together by means of the natural latex, making it possible to obtain a malleable material to form the biodegradable urn.
[025] This combination gives the main body (1) biodegradable properties, structural strength and the ability to absorb moisture without compromising the surrounding environment. In its preferred configuration, the main body (1) has a conical base with lateral reinforcements to ensure integrity during transport and storage of the ashes.
[026] Still in its preferred configuration, the main body (1) of the biodegradable urn comprises an internal compartment for seeds or seedlings that is located at the bottom of the urn, configured to receive seeds or small seedlings that can be planted along with the burial. This compartment has a perforated divider that separates the seeds from the main contents of the urn, allowing the passage of nutrients and water from the soil.
[027] The adjustable top cover (3) is fitted onto the top of the main body (1) and is designed to be removable. In its preferred configuration, the cover is equipped with Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, page 11 / 19 6 / 7 a natural seal made of latex, which protects the contents of the urn during transport and allows for easy removal at the time of burial or planting.
[028] The ergonomic handles (5) are integrated into the main body (1) and designed to facilitate the transport of the urn. In their preferred configuration, the handles are molded directly from the biodegradable material and have lateral reinforcements that ensure safety during handling.
[029] Additionally, the invention may include a decorative outer coating made with natural pigments or biodegradable materials. This coating may contain customizable information, such as names, dates or messages, engraved directly onto the material without compromising its biodegradability.
[030] A first model of the biodegradable urn of the present invention is revealed in Figure 1, demonstrating a biodegradable urn with a main body (1) having a cylindrical shape and an adjustable top lid (3) also having a cylindrical shape, so as to form a biodegradable urn symmetrical with respect to the horizontal axis.
[031] A second model of the biodegradable urn of the present invention is revealed in Figure 2, demonstrating a biodegradable urn with a main body (1) having a cubic shape and an adjustable top lid (3) consisting of a rectangular plate, so as to form a biodegradable urn in a box shape.
[032] A third model of the biodegradable urn of the present invention is revealed in Figure 3, demonstrating a biodegradable urn with a main body (1) having a cylindrical shape and an adjustable top lid (3) also having a cylindrical shape with a hollow top face, and also having an accessory vessel (4), also made of a mixture of coconut fiber and natural latex, configured to be placed in the opening of the top face of the adjustable top lid (3).
[033] Thus, the biodegradable urn of the present invention combines functionality and sustainability, allowing the main body (1), the adjustable top lid (3) and Petition 870250001749, dated 09 / 01 / 2025, page 12 / 19 7 / 7 the ergonomic handles (5) work together to provide an environmentally friendly and symbolically charged burial.
