TECHNICAL FIELD
[50] The present invention patent, whose title is given above and which is the subject of description and claims in this document, deals with an inventive solution that finds significant benefit when applied to protect operators and / or passersby who operate or transit in the vicinity of operational units (machines / equipment) of industrial installations, specifically operational units that have component parts that, in light of the NR12 standard, represent a risk of accidents.
[51] In this context, by way of example, but not limited to, the technical field in the mining area can be defined as equipment of the type conveyor belts (Te), see figure .1a, and tubular conveyor belts (Tc), see figure .1b, intended for the transport of any raw material, such as ore, for example, food grains and related products, provided that the constructive concept of this type of conveyor is maintained.
[52] As explained in figures .2a and .2b, where the title Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 15 / 35 11 / 26 of example, it should be said, not restrictive, represents a conveyor belt type ore conveyor (Es), installed on a certain terrain (Pi) showing the conveyor belt (Es1) itself, on which the raw material (Mi) is transported, for example iron ore, bauxite, clay, among others, and where from a practical point of view, the presence of individuals (Op) is common, such as workers and / or passers-by, and the accident risk area (Ar) is also highlighted, see figure .1b. INDUSTRIAL PATENT APPLICATION
[53] a. Introduction
[54] In view of the previously defined technical field, the applicant identified the need to provide the necessary adjustments in order to meet the strict requirements of the occupational safety standard, NR 12 - Occupational Safety in Machinery and Equipment, which establishes the protection measures to guarantee the physical integrity of workers and the prevention of accidents in the design and use phases of machinery and equipment.
[55] b. Application for a patent of invention
[56] The patent application for invention is translated by the identification of the need for constant idealization of improvements applied to protective devices (Di) for the operator and / or passerby who is positioned near the conveyor belt (Es), equipment where the possibility of work accident risk has been identified, and for the present industrial patent, the application of these protective devices (Di) on the sides of the Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 16 / 35 12 / 26 referred conveyor belt (Es), as illustrated in figures .3a and .3b.
[57] As a consequence, devices must be designed to mitigate such occurrences, always taking as a design paradigm the requirements imposed by the NR12 standard.
[58] In turn, once the occupational safety device has been designed, it guarantees the employer the mitigation of workplace accidents, and is therefore a solution that helps to achieve the objectives of the company's CIPA.
[59] From an industrial point of view, the implementation of the occupational safety device minimizes the need for unscheduled shutdowns for predictive and / or corrective maintenance of a production line.
[60] Finally, a reduction in the industrial cost of mining and related industries will be observed, notably due to the reduction in interruption of ore transport lines resulting from work accidents. INDUSTRIAL PATENT REQUIREMENTS
[61] In accordance with the patent application, the applicant conceived the “assembly, locking, unlocking and disassembly system for screen units that integrate a protective device applied to the side(s) of equipment such as raw material conveyor belts, its assembly procedure, its assembly and locking procedure and the unlocking and disassembly procedure of the protective screen” provided with novelty associated with inventive activity, since they do not arise in an obvious or evident way from Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 17 / 35 13 / 26 other techniques anticipated by the state of the art, conferring advantages from an industrial, commercial and technical point of view.
[62] In addition, the invention patent is provided with industrial application, being economically viable and therefore meeting the strict requirements for patentability.
[63] It should be added that although a protective device intended for occupational safety has its specification and technical requirements governed by the NR12 standard, it must be emphasized that this standard in no way anticipates the inventive concept of the present patent, being limited to defining the essential protective characteristics that the device must provide.
[64] By way of example only, work safety devices applied to conveyor belts, in light of the NR12 standard, must consist of a continuous structure, with a minimum distance from the point of risk and a protective screen opening that does not allow the passage of any object or material being transported, as well as human body parts that could cause injury to operators and / or passersby, equipped with means of fixing and locking in such a way that it can only be removed with an appropriate tool.
[65] Therefore, the present invention patent is nothing more than a form of embodiment that makes it feasible to meet the technical requirements defined in the NR12 standard, but which brings with it essential distinctive characteristics that are not anticipated by the solutions of devices of this nature anticipated by the state of the art.
[66] Finally, it is correct to state that a technician in the subject, or a man of the trade, when faced with the matter Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 18 / 35 14 / 26 disclosed for conventional protective devices intended for workplace safety applied to conveyor belts, does not, with the teachings they provide, achieve the solution disclosed and claimed in the present invention patent. FUNDAMENTALS OF THE TECHNIQUE
[67] In order to provide veracity, and to consolidate the context explained in the introductory table topics, an explanation will be presented on the state of the art for occupational safety devices applied to raw material conveyor belts, where after critical analysis of these, once evaluated by skilled workers, they will be able to identify their limiting aspects, thus consolidating the identification of the set of demands previously listed.
[68] a. State of the art
[69] Research in patent databases reveals that there are numerous solutions in occupational safety devices applied to equipment such as raw material conveyor belts, among which the following documents deserve highlighting.
[70] - US patent document US5947266, published on 07 / 09 / 1999, entitled “PROTECTIVE AND INSULATING BOX WITH REMOVABLE PANELS FOR A TRANSFER UNIT”, describes a protective and insulating enclosure for a raw material conveyor-type transfer unit, the enclosure being formed by sides consisting of removablely mounted panels between a profiled lower support section and the bottom, said panels having housed ends Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 19 / 35 15 / 26 so as to be encapsulated in a linear cavity of a rear top profiled section, allowing all panels to be mounted and removed easily and quickly. A profiled section is provided such as the uprights with a section below the panel that fits into the linear cavity of the bottom support (such as defined fittings on the panels that slide on the uprights).
[71] - US patent document US5078250, published on 07 / 01 / 1992, entitled “UNIVERSAL SAFETY PROTECTION ASSEMBLY FOR A CONVEYOR”, describes an adjustable safety protection assembly for a conveyor that includes frame modules mounted adjacent to a conveyor belt via support arms.
[72] - Brazilian patent document PI 1003853-1, published on 09 / 22 / 2010, entitled “PROTECTION ASSEMBLY FOR CONVEYOR BELTS IN GENERAL”, applied to the structure of a conveyor belt, formed by a plurality of screens fixed at their lateral ends to respective uprights where hollow spacer plugs with recesses for receiving screws are pronounced, and at their lateral ends guides are defined, and from the second half of this upright the guides are offset from each other and are mounted through the respective fittings defined at the lateral ends of the screens, whose displacement range is limited by the respective stops defined at the upper ends of these fittings.
[73] b. Conventional constructive concept: reading the information revealed in patent documents US5078250, US594726 and PI 1003853-1, although not exhaustive, it is possible to affirm that in essence they represent a concept Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, p. 20 / 35 16 / 26 conventional construction, where frame modules are provided that are fixed to support arms (or spacer plugs) which in turn are fixed to the structure of a conveyor belt type equipment.
[74] c. Problem identification
[75] Conventional solutions in protective devices intended for workplace safety applied to equipment such as raw material conveyor belts, represented by prior art documents US5078250, US594726 and PI 1003853-1, although they manage to meet the safety requirements established by the NR12 standard, when analyzed with a more critical technical eye, reveal some negative aspects, namely:
[76] c.1 From a technical point of view:
[77] - Complexity is identified in the product design of the component parts of the devices anticipated in the prior art documents US5078250, US594726 and PI 1003853-1, notably when defining the engagement or fitting system between the protective screens and their respective peripheral plugs (support towers).
[78] c.2 From an ergonomic point of view
[79] A lack of ergonomics in the assembly and disassembly of the plates is identified when maintenance needs to be carried out on a certain section of the conveyor belt, where the operator encounters difficulty in assembling / disassembling and fitting / unfitting between plates and also of the plates in their respective uprights.
[80] c.3 From the point of view of equipment maintenance
[81] Due to lack of ergonomics during assembly / disassembly Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 21 / 35 17 / 26 of the work safety device, a bottleneck is created in maintenance operations, notably corrective maintenance of the conveyor belt equipment, because the conventional device becomes an obstacle to the maintenance team's immediate access to the area of the conveyor belt where the bottleneck occurred that caused the interruption of transport movement.
[82] c.4 In the light of the industrial cost point of view
[83] Due to the difficulty of access for carrying out corrective maintenance, because the work safety device becomes an obstacle to its execution, prolonged interruptions in the flow of transport of materials extracted from mining, extraction, and other activities result in losses for the company that carries out this primary activity, since corrective maintenance activities are recognized as the most costly of all types of maintenance. INVENTION PATENT PROPOSAL
[84] a. Objective
[85] The primary objective is to solve all the negative / restrictive aspects previously listed, or in other words, to solve the problems identified for state-of-the-art solutions for safety protection devices for work applied to equipment such as raw material conveyor belts, thus meeting the set of needs previously identified.
[86] Another objective of the new work protection and safety device is to allow for quick assembly along the entire length of the sides of the conveyor belts. Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 22 / 35 18 / 26 ores, continuously, because as experts in the field know, for the mining industry, conveyor belt type structures are characterized by being very long and require speed in the installation of protections.
[87] Therefore, the characteristic of agility is particularly desirable during the deployment activity of this type of device, making it ergonomic from the point of view of its implementation.
[88] Another objective within the scope of ergonomics is that the work protection and safety device facilitates operator access to any sector of the conveyor belt when corrective maintenance is required.
[89] Another objective of the present invention is to mitigate losses from production stoppages caused by impeding the conveyor belt equipment for transporting raw materials of a mineral or related nature, preventing the work protection and safety device from being a barrier that hinders the maintenance of the conveyor belt without, however, renouncing its main function of protecting and ensuring the safety of operators and passersby positioned adjacent to it.
[90] b. Distinctive feature: to make feasible the scope of the patent of invention, a novel system for mounting and fixing the protective screens to the pair of respective support towers was devised, where:
[91] - First assembly movement: this is done quickly, simply by positioning the upper and lower edges of one of the sides of the protective screen in a pair of defined claws on the extreme vertical portion of a tower. Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 23 / 35 19 / 26 improved support, with the first claw in an inverted "L" shape, located at the upper end, and the second claw in an "L" shape, located in the middle portion, with both claws positioned slightly further apart than the height of the protective screen;
[92] - Second assembly movement: this is also done quickly, simply by positioning the fastening element defined in the middle portion of the other side of the protective screen over the key locking mechanism defined in the other extreme portion of the support tower; and
[93] - Locking of the protective device: this is done quickly by simply coupling the male thread of the fastening element with the free female thread defined inside the locking mechanism with a key.
[94] This key locking mechanism consists of a structural box with an opening in its front part, and inside which is defined a threaded nut with a conical upper cam, which has the function of providing the correct positioning of the male thread segment of the fastener to its female thread, thus eliminating possible misalignments between the respective male and female threads. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[95] The following detailed description should be read and interpreted with reference to the drawings presented, representing a preferred embodiment of the invention patent, both for the inventive device and for its assembly, locking, unlocking and disassembly procedures of the improved device, not being Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 24 / 35 20 / 26 intended to limit its scope, being limited only to what is explicitly stated in the claims section.
[96] a. Constructive concept
[97] a.1 Technological basis
[98] The improved protection device (Di), see figure .10k, applied to the sides of conveyor belts (Et), see figures .3a and .3b, has its technological basis, that is, known state-of-the-art components formed by the protective screen components (10) and support towers (30) which are fixed on respective pedestals (40).
[99] a.2 Distinctive feature
[100] Each of the components defined by the technological basis of the improved protection device (Di) incorporates distinctive characteristics that together converge to the improved mounting and locking system, which are described here:
[101] - Protective screen (10): as illustrated in figures .4a to .4d, it is formed by a typically rectangular structure (11), provided with a plurality of perforated elements (12), and can be made of either polymeric or metallic material (in which case it must receive corrosion treatment), with an orifice (13) defined approximately on the vertical perimeter of one of its ends, with the function of receiving the mounting of a fastening element (20);
[102] - Fastening element (20): as illustrated in figures .5a and .5b, it consists of a screw (21), preferably an Allen screw and its nut (22), with the function of providing the locking of the protective screen (10) to the mechanism of Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, p. 25 / 35 21 / 26 key locking (X) defined on the front face of one of the peripheral flanges of the support towers (30);
[103] — Support towers (30): as illustrated in figures .6a to .6f, it is formed by an extruded “U” profile (31), provided with a plurality of adjustment holes (32) delimited by peripheral flanges (33) and (34), wherein the peripheral flange (33) defines the key locking mechanism (X) and the peripheral flange (34) defines a pair of claws (35) and (36), wherein the claw (35) has an inverted “L” profile, defined at the upper end of the peripheral flange (34) and the second claw (36) has an “L” profile, defined in the intermediate portion of the peripheral flange (34), wherein both claws (35) and (36) are spaced slightly greater than the height of the protective screen (10).
[104] In addition, the key locking mechanism (X) has its construction revealed in figures .7a and .7b, being formed by a square box (X1) provided with an opening (X2) in its lid, whose diameter is slightly larger than the diameter of the nut (22) of the fastening element (20), and whose interior of this square box (X1) has a defined special square nut (Y), provided with a body (Y1) of dimensions slightly smaller than the internal dimensions of the square box (X1), whose upper part has a defined conical profile (Y2) with the function of inviting the positioning and alignment of the male thread sector of the fastening screw (21), and at the end of this conical profile (Y2) a female threaded channel (Y3) is developed with the function of receiving the interaction with the aforementioned male thread sector of the fastening screw (21); Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 26 / 35 22 / 26
[105] — Pedestals (40): as illustrated in figures .8a and .8b, being formed by a base (41) fixed to the floor on which is fixed a beam (42) with extruded square profile, whose front face has defined a plurality of adjustment pins (43), with the function of receiving the assembly and fixing of the support towers (30) through their adjustment holes (32).
[106] a.3 Understanding the mounted protection device (Di)
[107] Once the components of the device (Di) have been described in detail, it can be visualized assembled through figure .10k, which in summary is formed by a pair of support towers (30) that are fixed on their respective pedestals (40), wherein the distance (d1) between the innermost part of the peripheral flange (34) of the support tower (30a) and the innermost part of the flange (33) of the support tower (30b), see figure .10d, must be the same as the length (d2) of the protective screen (10), see figure .4c, where its upper edges (10a) and (10b) fit into the claws (35) and (36) respectively, of the support tower (30a), see figures .10g and .10h, wherein the other lateral end (10c) of this protective screen (10) overlaps the fastening element (20) on the mechanism of lock with key (X), see figure .10j.
[108] One aspect that deserves highlighting is the fact that the support tower (30), despite having an extruded base formed by a “U” section (31) from whose ends peripheral edges (33) and (34) extend, the coupling elements, in the form of claws (35) and (36) for a first coupling tower (30a), act only to receive the lateral edges (10a) and (10b) of one of the protective screens (10), and the fixing of this will always take place together Petition 870250071470, dated 08 / 13 / 2025, page 27 / 35 23 / 26 to the key locking mechanism (X) defined on the other support tower (30b), as illustrated in figure .10e.
[109] b. Procedure for mounting and locking the protective device (Di)
