Description

/ 8 PROCESS OF CUTTING AND APPLYING PROTECTIVE FILMS. Field of application

[001] This descriptive report refers to a process of cutting and applying protective films, belonging to the field of application of technical solutions intended to ensure better protection for the screens of equipment developed for carrying out financial and credit transactions. Brief description of the purposes and solutions presented

[002] More precisely, the subject matter disclosed in the patent application in question was conceived and developed with the aim of protecting and minimizing the visibility of damage to screens, displays or screens of credit card machines, such as scratches, scuffs, stains, dirt, cracks, breaks, etc., through the use of solar control film, also used in automotive glass, window glass and residential and commercial facades, with partial light passage, combined with the use of polycarbonate films for use in various industries (aeronautics, electronics, automotive, civil construction, etc.) due to their mechanical resistance and optical clarity properties, as well as with the application of resin to the scratches, imperfections and damage existing on the screen, filling them and reducing their visibility, a method also used in Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 4 / 22 / 8 together with those of application of polycarbonate film and solar control film. From the fundamentals

[003] Credit card companies and those that also transact financial operations, acquirers and sub-acquirers, use and make available to the market credit and debit card machines, the so-called POS (Point of Sale) machines, credit card machines or simply card machines as they are popularly known.

[004] There are several manufacturers of POS machines, both foreign and domestic, as well as several models of this type of equipment that have naturally evolved over time, possessing increasingly sophisticated features and functionalities, including touchscreen displays, which will henceforth be referred to simply as screens.

[005] POS machines, used for capturing financial transactions, are made available to commercial establishments and users in general, and can be sold, rented, provided on loan or through other forms of access.

[006] Within this context, solar control films for use on automotive glass and windows and glass facades in general are also known, that is, intended for application and protection of extensive surfaces, which is why they are usually Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 5 / 22 / 8 usually supplied in rolls, several meters long and cut into large dimensional proportions, there are also polycarbonate films for use in various industries (aeronautics, electronics, automotive, civil construction, etc.) due to their mechanical resistance and optical clarity properties. Of the existing problems

[007] Continuous use of these POS machines causes them to be subject to aesthetic damage, scratches, marks, dirt, drops, stains, breakage, impacts, etc., visible mainly on their external components, such as the chassis, keyboard and screen.

[008] Such damage can occur due to misuse (e.g., dropping the machine), but also due to normal, everyday use, as they are increasingly handled and used continuously throughout their lifespan in carrying out financial transactions, with each credit card machine having a screen of a specific size, and the damage can vary depending on the model and how it is used.

[009] The companies that supply them value the aesthetic aspect of their equipment, so when the customer / business establishment receives a machine, it must be in the best possible presentable and usable condition. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 6 / 22 / 8

[010] These companies continuously send POS machines to the commercial establishments that contract them, also constantly collecting them when defective or because the purchasers, for various reasons, decline the services offered. Therefore, there is a continuous flow of machines going back and forth, meaning that they need to be constantly analyzed to verify if they are in good condition or if they need to be properly repaired before being sent to other contractors.

[011] In this sense, and considering all these operational aspects that involve the proper functioning and improvement of the useful life of these POS machines, any appropriate techniques that allow their protection and / or recovery will always be of great value. State of the art

[012] Regarding the state of the art, there is no knowledge of the existence of complementary information and / or patent documents that present exactly the same combinations of characteristics revealed in the matter discussed here, and based on some surveys carried out regarding solutions for machines for financial transactions, the following processes can be cited as examples: - BR202018007832: refers to a machine for carrying out financial transactions using personal biometrics. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 7 / 22 / 8, resolving the problems of constant fraud and delays in attempting to correctly identify the user; - WO2011100247: presents a non-transient, machine-readable method of conducting a financial transaction in which a consumer sends a request to a payment provider with an amount for pre-approval, where the request includes a consumer identifier; - BRMU8902815: This refers to a device introduced in a support for financial transaction machines, finalized in a vertical support for fixing credit card machines, developed so that the user can use the keyboard and view the screen more easily; - BRMU9100300: refers to a machine for financial transactions equipped with one key for debit and another for credit, eliminating the need for physical or verbal intervention with the operator regarding the desired payment method for the commercial transaction. - BR8103171: relating to a system for interfacing credit and banking card terminals with mobile phones, developed to enable the sale of products or services at fixed or mobile points of sale where conventional telephony is not available, as well as to increase the security of financial transactions. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 8 / 22 / 8 Innovations and objectives

[013] In view of just some of the problems reported above and the examples of the state of the art cited, the present process, in its first innovation, is characterized by using films for automotive glass and windows and glass facades on credit card machine screens, whose films are supplied in rolls and, to speed up application, must be pre-cut into sizes equal to or smaller than each screen to be adequately covered, simultaneously meeting the first objective of protecting them against damage (scratches, marks, dirt, stains, breakage, etc.) caused by routine use or misuse (such as drops, use of pens or other touch instruments, among other occurrences).

[014] The second innovation in the process is characterized by also using polycarbonate films / sheets for diverse uses (aeronautical, electronic, automotive, civil construction industries, etc.) also cut to the same dimensions as the screens to be properly covered, simultaneously meeting the second objective of minimizing the visibility of damage (scratches, marks, dirt, stains, breaks, etc.) already existing on the screen of credit card machines, for which a film with partial light retention must be used. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 9 / 22 / 8

[015] The third innovation in the process is characterized by using these two films simultaneously in two layers, the first layer being made of polycarbonate film and the second layer being a film used in automotive glass and / or in windows and glass facades, superimposed on the polycarbonate film, simultaneously meeting the third objective of increasing the protection of the screens caused by the routine use of these machines or by misuse, further reducing the visibility of existing damage to the screen, thus forming a two-layer protection.

[016] Thus, while in automotive glass or window and facade glass applications the film is cut to a size larger than the surface to be covered, and the excess is removed using some cutting instrument (usually a utility knife), in the present process, each credit card machine model has a screen of a specific size, with the film pre-cut to a size equal to or smaller than the area to be covered, allowing its application without the need to remove excess, performing the desired function of protection in the area covered by the film.

[017] To cut the film rolls to the desired screen size, cutting machines and / or plotters can be used, allowing for cuts to be made to the exact size of each roll. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, page 10 / 22 / 8 model of the machine, so that at the time of application no adjustment / cutting of excess film is necessary.

[018] This point is important because hundreds or thousands of films are cut and applied daily in logistics operations that handle the machines to be reconditioned and returned to the purchasers in good aesthetic condition, where pre-cutting to the correct size is fundamental for perfect protection and productivity gains, and after cutting, the application and elimination of bubbles is done using spatulas, cloths, sponges and other suitable objects.

[019] For cases of deeper scratches or other more extensive damage, the invention is characterized by the use of a polycarbonate film for diverse uses (aeronautical, electronic, automotive, civil construction industries, etc.) whose application must be carried out using a layer of UV-sensitive glue that will fill the existing scratches, imperfections and damage on the screen, increasing protection against new damage and reducing the visibility of existing damage, filling all imperfections on the surface of the credit card machine screen.

[020] Likewise, for cases of deeper scratches or other even more extensive damage, the invention is also characterized by the application of resin to the existing scratches, imperfections and damage on the screen, filling them and reducing their visibility, which method is used in combination with those of applying polycarbonate film and solar control film. Petition 870250073576, dated 08 / 20 / 2025, p. 11 / 22
