1 / 11 “TRAVERTINE STONE TYPE COATING COMPOUND AND APPLICATION METHOD ON SURFACES”

[001] This descriptive report refers to the patent application for an invention for a surface coating compound, which provides an application method, both developed in such a way that the final decorative project achieves a natural effect and realistic visual appearance of Travertine stone. Technical comments

[002] Travertine stone is a natural sedimentary stone widely used in construction and interior design due to its beauty and durability. It is formed from the deposition and compaction of other decomposed rocks, organic or mineral remains that accumulate in layers over time. The rock is cut into slabs or tiles that are installed with the aid of mortar or cement, receiving a polished finish to achieve shiny and smooth surfaces or satin finishes, which are more matte and have a smooth texture, as well as rustic and brushed finishes.

[003] Due to cost issues, rock has been replaced by various materials that seek to reproduce its appearance and aesthetic qualities, ranging from porcelain, laminate, artificial or composite marble (quartzite or quartz), polished cement or concrete, resin or epoxy coating, laminated MDF or MDP panels, wallpaper, reconstituted or simulated stones.

[004] The inventor of the matter to be described further on is the applicant for patent application BR 10 2024 007299 5 for a “COATING KIT AND APPLICATION METHOD FOR DECORATIVE FINISH OF THE TRAVERTINE STONE TYPE ON A SURFACE” whereby, using two types of polymeric compounds - as a base compound and as a finishing compound, Petition 870250011579, dated 12 / 02 / 2025, page 9 / 37 2 / 11 following specific application steps achieves a satisfactory result for the visual aspect of Travertine stone. Despite the high functionality of this method, achieving a visual effect with total similarity to Travertine stone, due to the use of two polymeric masses, the second mass or finishing mass employed obviously incurs costs, in addition to requiring more steps in the polishing stage. [005] For the method now developed, the same inventor eliminates the finishing compound in the polymeric material used, thanks to a technical improvement in the base compound of the coating. Thus, only the base compound or single compound is used, bringing a series of important benefits to be explained both in relation to costs, which are reduced by using less material and with less time spent by reducing polishing steps during application, while maintaining the same final result, which is the closeness and total realism in relation to the natural surface of Travertine stone.

[006] Through the application of the polymer base mass and the method created, a surprising result is achieved that is only found in nature. The coating applied from the present invention results in a unique surface that harmonizes with the environment, giving it sophistication and timelessness. Because it is a coating, it can be applied using this method to interior and exterior walls such as facades, ceilings, countertops, furniture, joinery, interior nautical cladding, and various decorative objects.

[007] Its application is simple and offers excellent cost-benefit, and can be quickly replicated by professionals using hand tools such as a paint roller or a trowel. [011] Depending on the particulars of the application of the method (texturing and pigmentation), different nuances of the various types of Travertine stone can be achieved, such as Roman, Persian, Navona, Classical, Tuscan Travertine, among others, as well as the intensity of the shine in the finish in each type.

[012] The single-layer body is available in two colors: "off-white" and natural with beige tones and natural with white tones. The desired color can be achieved by adding pigmentation at the user's discretion, for a Travertine-style finish. Colors such as black, gray, etc., can also be manufactured. This allows a professional applying the coating to meet the demands of architects and / or designers, who can then innovate and achieve unique or specific finishes for their Travertine decoration projects. [014] Explained in summary form so far, the invention will now be detailed.

[015] Figures 1 and 2 show the state of the art, i.e., photos of Travertine stone, evidently the objectives of the invention to be achieved through this base mass and its method of application: Figure 1 - shows the photograph delimited by a spherical frame; Figure 2 - shows the photograph enclosed by a square frame. [016] In accordance with the attached figures, the “TRAVERTINE STONE TYPE COATING MASS AND APPLICATION METHOD” consists of a single mass (1), of general composition Petition 870250011579, dated 12 / 02 / 2025, page 14 / 37 7 / 11 polymeric and preferably packaged in buckets in three sizes, shown in figure 3.

[018] From this general definition it will be noted that the decorative effect of the coating is fundamentally based on the method of application of this base mass, which may present variations in its composition as long as its nature, being polymer-based, is respected. The Method:

[019] As shown in figure 4, in a first step the surface (S) to be coated, being clean, receives the application of primer (Pr) by a paint roller (Ro), with a drying time of around 4 hours. The surface to be coated is shown in this figure 4 only by a brief section of darker coloration under the primer (Pr) before being coated. As can be seen, it is indicated by item (S).

[020] The drying stage follows, with a waiting time of around 4 hours.

[024] The third stage is texturing, when, while the mass (1) is still soft, it receives various texture patterns (T). Texturing is done using the textured roller (RoT) with the texture (T) previously engraved as shown in figure 7, transferring this engraving to a groove in the base mass (1). Tools such as the multi-purpose brush (Em) shown in figure 8 are also used to create a texture pattern (T), or another trowel such as the groove trowel (DsR) shown in figure 9 for another texture pattern (T), once the base mass (1) is a little drier. When moved vertically or horizontally, the multi-purpose brush (Em) and the groove trowel (DeR) form the irregular and natural patterns of the veins, with their nuances, which will contribute to achieving specific Travertine pattern types such as Roman, Navona, Persian, etc.

[025] In this condition, the base mass (1) shown in figure 10 also with another texture pattern (T) goes through a touch-dry stage which may vary in waiting time depending on each type of application or Petition 870250011579, dated 12 / 02 / 2025, page 16 / 37 9 / 11 depending on the professional working on the decoration.

[027] In this way, another texture pattern (T2) is created with a smooth surface, but with small cavities (C) mixed with positive areas, as shown in Figure 12, forming the definition of the nuances to achieve Travertine pattern types. Depending on the finishing technique - pressure force, force along with repetitions of these movements using the trowel (De) - the texture pattern (T2) can become smoother and more compact, closing the cavities (C) more or less in the middle of the positive areas. If the finishing is excessive, the texture (T2) can be moistened using a sprayer for use with the multi-purpose brush (Em) or the groove trowel (DeR), more aggressively increasing the visual impact of this negative and positive pattern.

[028] With the base mass (1) and its texture (T2) smoothed and dry, as shown in figure 13, the spatula (Es), when positioned upright at a 90-degree angle and dragged with little pressure and force, allows the professional to create veins (V) with horizontal or vertical lines as shown in figure 14. [030] Finally, the polishing stage, as shown in figure 17, is done with the electric tool (P) high-speed polisher with 600 grit sandpaper, defining the type of finish - from matte to satin, thus completing the decorative coating method, giving the treated surface the visual effect of Travertine stone in any of its variations such as Roman, Persian, Tuscan, etc.

[031] As shown in Figure 18, an optional step is provided, especially when applying the coating to facades and other large surfaces, where the mass (1) is applied with the aid of a bonding tool (Ch), either manual (crank) or automatic (air compressor), which will throw the mass (1) against the surface (S). In this case, through the bonding, following the method, with the primer (Pr) and the first thin coat, the anchoring base (A) is created, drying, application of the second coat, drying, surface smoothing with the trowel (De), textures (T), new smoothing with the trowel (De), achieving the cavity pattern (C) in the texture (T2), drying, sanding and polishing with electric tools (L) and (P).
