Description

1 / 5 Dental anatomical model of the maxilla with oroantral communication.

[001] The present invention, applied to the field of dentistry, presents dental anatomical models of the maxilla with oroantral communication, manufactured by means of total maxillary tomography, intraoral scanning and 3D printing. The models aim to simulate the presence of communication in the anterior or posterior region, to enable the reproduction of numerous buccosinusal situations for better study, planning and treatment.

[002] Treatment for various pathologies, such as oral cancer, can result in communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus or nasal fossa, leading to comorbidities, phonetic and masticatory alterations. Prosthetic treatment of these patients is a major challenge.

[003] The symptomatology of oroantral communications depends on the size of the lesion and the time of evolution, and may cause: • reflux and leakage of fluids from the oral cavity into the nasal cavity and / or maxillary sinus; • escape of air, liquid, and food into the maxillary sinus and nasal cavities; • changes in sinus ventilation; • changes in speech and swallowing; • sensation of air escaping while speaking; • Presence of inflammatory processes in the maxillary sinus. • Significant reduction in quality of life.

[004] The treatment involves the use of a prosthesis that extends beyond the usual limits, characterized by being a highly specialized and planned device. Its basic objectives are to restore aesthetics, speech, swallowing, chewing, and protection. Petition 870250011731, dated 02 / 13 / 2025, page 18 / 27 2 / 5 of the remaining tissues and assist in psychological therapy, aiming to improve the quality of life of patients.

[005] In this context, the existence of study models for training in the molding procedure and planning exercises becomes paramount. Despite this, there are currently no adequate models that simulate the pathology of these patients, in order to allow the reproduction of oroantral situations for better study, planning and treatment.

[006] In searches carried out in patent databases, some technologies were found that resemble the technology proposed here, however, they are for a different purpose, and do not present the characteristics and advantages of the model of this proposed patent.

[007] Patent MU 8300427-0 presents a set of impression trays for edentulous maxilla and mandible impressions with vertical dimension and centric relation recording. The trays have sizes compatible with the various oral arches and are made of rigid, colorless, and transparent plastic to allow a general view of the area of the mouth to be impressioned. This technology aims to simplify and improve impression techniques and facilitate obtaining the centric relation and vertical dimension of the patient.

[008] Patent BR202022022309-8 presents an improvement introduced in a palatal expander appliance, composed of a set of cylindrical pillars with strategically shaped height pads welded to the two-part base units that make up the expander appliances, promoting compensation for the gap resulting from the depth of the patient's palate, generating an ideal treatment for maxillary expansion procedures. This technology aims to assist in the treatment of palatal pathologies, but does not use models to simulate the patient's conditions. Petition 870250011731, dated 02 / 13 / 2025, page 19 / 27 3 / 5

[009] Patent BR102021010492-9 presents a moldable resin for dental prostheses that allows the patient's mouth to be molded in order to create a prosthesis with artificial gums, providing greater fidelity to the shape of the gums and upper and lower palate. The resin makes it possible to achieve a better adaptation of the dental prosthesis, in addition to providing immediacy to meet the patient's needs more quickly and accurately. The resin can be polymerized or cured to become the definitive dental prosthesis.

[010] Patent BR102021013685-5 presents a guided digital surgical planning method for the MARPE technique, developed to provide safety and precision to the orthodontist during the surgical placement of mini-implants and bone perforations to weaken the transpalatal suture. This system ensures the ideal positioning of the expander screw feet, promoting a positioning that allows the insertion of mini-implants safely, without touching the mucosa or any other anatomical region that could reduce the chances of success of the therapy.

[011] All the patents presented have as their main objective the reshaping of the head of users, mainly children, not referring to systems for controlling head positioning, and do not present the innovative characteristics of the antigravity support system of the cephalic orthosis, proposed in the present patent application.

[012] The technology proposed here can be better understood with the help of the figures described below:

[013] Figure 1 - Presents a photo of a model with the presence of communication in the anterior region; edentulous area, comprising the region of teeth 12, 11, 21 and 22. Petition 870250011731, dated 02 / 13 / 2025, page 20 / 27 4 / 5

[014] Figure 2 - Shows a photo of a model with the presence of communication in the central posterior region; without edentulous area.

[015] Figure 3 - Presents a photo of a model with the presence of communication in the right posterior region; edentulous area, comprising the region of teeth 16, 17, 18.

[016] As presented the “DENTAL ANATOMICAL MODEL "MAXILLA WITH OROANTRAL COMMUNICATION" consists of dental anatomical models of the maxilla with oroantral communication, created using total maxillary tomography, intraoral scanning, and 3D printing. These models are digitally manipulated using image scanning software (e.g., Meshmixer) for mesh manipulation and addition of the oroantral communication.

[017] After digital reconstruction of the geometry, the model is printed using additive manufacturing (3D printing). For the bone and tooth region, scratch-resistant HUAXIN resin is used, and for the soft tissue region (palatal gingiva), HUAXIN soft tissue resin is used (Manufacturer: Huizhou Dayawan Huaxin Innovative Materials Co.).

[018] The proposal is to construct 3 anatomical dental models of the maxilla, with oroantral communication, simulating 3 distinct realities, namely: • Model 1: model with communication in the anterior region; edentulous area comprising the region of teeth 12, 11, 21 and 22. The model has the following teeth present: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28. • Model 2: Model with communication in the central posterior region; absence of edentulous area. The model has the following teeth: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28. Petition 870250011731, dated 02 / 13 / 2025, page 21 / 27 5 / 5 • Model 3: model with communication in the right posterior region; edentulous area comprising the region of teeth 16, 17, and 18. The model has the following teeth present: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28. Petition 870250011731, dated 02 / 13 / 2025, pp. 22 / 27
