Description

1 / 53 Descriptive Report of the Invention Patent for PACKAGING INSERT AND PACKAGING.

[001] The present invention relates to a packaging insert, with packaging and a method for assembling packaging.

[002] Packaging, including packaging for containing goods and packaging for containing information or other display items, is frequently used as a single-use disposable item, which has environmental implications. It is desirable to recycle such packaging as much as possible.

[003] However, some packaging may be made from mixed materials that would be available under different recycling categories. Such packaging cannot be recycled as a single unit, but must be recycled as separate components. This is the case, for example, with tape-guided packaging, which typically features a tape of plastic materials used to guide components made of other materials that are not plastic, such as cardboard.

[004] In such tape-guided packaging, it is necessary to ensure that the tape and other components are securely fastened together so that the packaging can withstand normal use and wear. It is also desirable to conceal the tape component from view, and consequently from easy access, so that the underlying mechanism of the packaging cannot be easily seen. While this results in a sturdy package, it means that the packaging is difficult to disassemble for recycling.

[005] Tape-oriented packaging comprises a cover that is divided into two compartments by a divider. The structural rigidity of the two compartments is desirable to protect the contents of the package. This can be achieved by using a rigid or at least relatively hard material for the components. However, such material Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 9 / 68 2 / 53 Rigid or hard material can be particularly difficult to separate for recycling purposes.

[006] One objective of this invention is to address at least one of the problems described above. Invention claims

[007] In relation to this scenario, the invention resides in a packaging insert comprising first and second members and a tape. The first and second members are coupled to the tape, such that movement of the first member in a first direction guides the tape to cause movement of the second member in a second direction. The first member comprises a main region and a connecting region that is configured to detachably couple the main region to the tape.

[008] The connection region can be configured to be detachable from the tape so that the connection region and the main region can be detached from the tape. Alternatively, the connection region can be configured to be detachable from the main region so as to detach the main region from the tape and the connection region.

[009] The first member can be movable between a closed configuration in which the first member has been moved in the first direction to a minimum possible extension, and an open position in which the first member has been moved in the first direction to a maximum possible extension.

[0010] The connection region can be configured to be detachable from the tape and / or from the main region when the package is arranged in the open configuration and a force is applied to the first member in the first direction.

[0011] The connecting region can be frangibly coupled to the main region. To this end, a boundary between the connecting region and the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 10 / 68 3 / 53 The main region can be defined by a perforation or groove.

[0012] The main region may comprise an opening and the connecting region may project into the opening to anchor the main region to the connecting region. The connecting region may be fitted to the opening of the main region with a press fit.

[0013] The connection region may comprise a connection component for securing the first member with the tape.

[0014] The connecting component may comprise an opening and an anchoring component adjacent to the opening. One end of the tape may project through the opening to define a connecting loop. The anchoring component may project into the connecting loop.

[0015] The anchoring component may comprise a tab.

[0016] The first member may comprise a double wall. The flap may be provided in a first wall of the double wall and the opening being defined in a second wall of the double wall.

[0017] The flap can be defined by a hinged part of the first wall.

[0018] The hinged part of the second wall may reveal an additional opening when the flap is open.

[0019] The second member may comprise a connecting part that is detachably coupled to the tape. All the components described above in relation to the first member can also be applied with respect to the second member.

[0020] The first member and the tape may be made of different materials, optionally materials that have different recycling categories. For example, the tape may comprise a plastic material and the first member may comprise a non-plastic material, such as cardboard. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 11 / 68 4 / 53

[0021] The anchoring component may comprise two tabs arranged to generally face each other and project into the connecting handle from opposite directions.

[0022] The packaging insert may further comprise a panel, the tape enclosing the panel.

[0023] The invention also extends to packaging comprising the packaging insert above.

[0024] The packaging may comprise a cover, the packaging insert being housed within the cover, such that the cover is arranged to selectively block access to the first member. The cover and the insert panel may be contiguous, for example, being formed together from a single piece, such as a blank component. In other examples, the cover and the insert panel may be separate components.

[0025] The invention further extends to a package comprising a first member, a cover for selectively blocking access to the first member, and a guide component for guiding the first member out of the cover. The guide component and the first member are made of different materials, and the first member is detachably attached to the guide component.

[0026] The invention further extends to a method of assembling a packaging insert, the packaging insert comprising first and second members and a tape, the first member comprising a connecting component for detachably coupling the first member to the tape, the connecting component comprising an opening and an anchoring component adjacent to the opening, the method comprising: feeding one end of the tape through the opening to define a connecting loop, and inserting the anchoring component within the loop. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 12 / 68 5 / 53 connection for attaching the first member to the tape.

[0027] From another aspect, the invention resides in a packaging insert comprising: a substrate surrounded by a tape, and a movable member that can be coupled to the tape, such that the movement of the movable member in a first direction guides the tape around the substrate. The movable member comprises a sliding surface configured to lie parallel to and facing the substrate, and a recess to accommodate an adhesive material for coupling the movable member to the tape, such that the adhesive material lies flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface.

[0028] The recess may comprise a base that is recessed from the sliding surface so as to form a depression or recess in the sliding surface. The packaging insert may comprise an adhesive material accommodated in the recess, wherein the adhesive material is flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface. In other words, the adhesive material may be provided in the recess such that the adhesive material does not project or projects above the sliding surface of the moving member.

[0029] Settling the adhesive material into the recess so that it lies flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface is advantageous, as this prevents the adhesive material from transferring to the tape or other packaging components prematurely, which would otherwise lead to mobile catch on the tape and thus prevent the moving member from running smoothly over the tape. In the finished package, this feature also ensures that the moving member or members can lie flat against the substrate, without being spaced away from the substrate in the adhesive region.

[0030] The movable member can be attached to the tape using adhesive material.

[0031] The movable member may comprise the first and second Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 13 / 68 6 / 53 walls that are parallel and in contact.

[0032] The movable member may include a recessed region. In the recessed area, the first wall may include an opening and the second wall may be continuous, so that the first and second walls together define the recess in the movable member.

[0033] The second wall can define a base for the recess.

[0034] The packaging insert may comprise an additional movable member that can be coupled to the tape such that movement of the additional movable member in a second direction guides the tape around the substrate.

[0035] The invention also resides in packaging comprising the packaging insert of any preceding paragraph.

[0036] The invention further resides in a packaging comprising a substrate wrapped by a tape and a movable member coupled to the tape by an adhesive material, such that the movement of the movable member in a first direction guides the tape around the substrate. The movable member comprises a sliding surface configured to lie parallel to and facing the substrate and a recess that accommodates the adhesive material so that the adhesive material lies flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface.

[0037] The recess may comprise a base that is recessed or set back from the sliding surface.

[0038] The spacing between the sliding surface and the base can define a recess depth, and the depth of the adhesive material must not exceed the recess depth. In this way, the adhesive material is completely contained within the recess and does not project or protrude above the sliding surface of the moving member. This prevents accidental transfer of the adhesive material to other packaging components before it is intended. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 14 / 68 7 / 53

[0039] The invention further resides in a method for manufacturing the packaging described above. The method comprises: providing a movable member comprising a sliding surface and a recess in the sliding surface; disposing of an adhesive material in the recess so that the adhesive material is flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface; disposing of the movable member so that the adhesive material faces a tape; applying pressure to the tape and / or the movable member in the region of the adhesive material to adhere the movable member to the tape.

[0040] The method may comprise placing the tape and the movable limb in a sheath, and applying pressure to the tape and / or to the movable limb in the region of the adhesive material via the sheath.

[0041] The method may involve placing the tape on the cover before placing the movable part on the cover.

[0042] Thus, the invention allows the cover and tape of the packaging to be assembled, and the movable member(s) to be subsequently incorporated into the packaging, simply by inserting the member(s) inside the packaging and applying pressure to the packaging, i.e., by squeezing the packaging between the thumb and forefinger, so as to fix the movable member(s). In other words, the assembly of the cover and tape can be prefabricated, before retrofitting the movable member(s) into the packaging simply by inserting them inside the cover and applying pressure to the appropriate region(s) by compressing, squeezing or pressing the cover.

[0043] The method may comprise arranging the tape around a substrate. The method may comprise arranging the tape around the substrate before attaching the movable member to the tape.

[0044] The substrate can be formed as a separate piece from the cover, which can be attached to the cover to form a package. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 15 / 68 8 / 53

[0045] In other embodiments, the substrate and the coating may be formed from a single continuous piece.

[0046] The substrate and cover may be formed from a blank component comprising a cover portion and a substrate portion. The method may comprise: arranging a tape to encircle the substrate portion of the blank component, and subsequently folding the cover portion of the blank component around the substrate portion, to enclose the substrate in the cover; and arranging the movable member in the cover so that the adhesive material faces the tape.

[0047] The method may comprise: providing an additional movable member comprising a sliding surface and a recess in the sliding surface; placing an adhesive material in the recess of the additional movable member, such that the adhesive material lies flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface of the additional movable member; placing the tape over the adhesive in the recess of the additional movable member; applying pressure to the tape and / or to the additional movable member in the region of the adhesive material to adhere the additional movable member to the tape.

[0048] Pressure can be applied to the mobile limb and the additional mobile limb simultaneously. For example, a user can hold the packaging in both hands and squeeze the packaging on the adhesive material region of the mobile limb and the additional mobile limb at the same time.

[0049] The invention further resides in a method for manufacturing the packaging of any of the preceding paragraphs, comprising: providing a cover and a substrate housed in the cover, the substrate being wrapped by a tape; providing a movable member comprising a sliding surface and a recess in the sliding surface; disposing of an adhesive material in the recess so as Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 16 / 68 9 / 53 ensure the adhesive material is flush or slightly flush with the sliding surface; position the movable member in the cover so that the adhesive material faces the tape; apply pressure to the cover in the area of the adhesive material to adhere the movable member to the tape.

[0050] The substrate and cover may be formed from a blank component comprising a cover portion and a substrate portion, and the step of providing a cover and a substrate housed in the cover may comprise arranging a tape to wrap the substrate portion of the blank component, and folding the cover portion of the blank component around the substrate portion.

[0051] From another aspect, the invention resides in a blank cover component to form a cover to house the first and second members. The blank cover component comprises a bottom panel to form a base of the cover; an upper panel to form a top part of the cover; a divider panel to divide a space between the bottom panel and the upper panel into lower and upper compartments; a first side wall joining a first edge of the bottom panel with a first edge of the divider panel; a second side wall joining a second edge of the bottom panel with a second edge of the upper panel; and a projection extending from the first side wall beyond the first edge of the divider to support a first edge of the upper panel in the assembled cover.

[0052] The first side wall may define a plane of the first side wall, and the projection may extend away from the first side wall substantially in the plane of the first side wall.

[0053] The first side wall can have a height h1, the projection can have a height hp, the second side wall can have a height h2. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 17 / 68 10 / 53, which is approximately equal to the sum of the height of the first wall hi and the height of the projection hp.

[0054] The height of the second wall h2 can be approximately equal to the height of the projection hp.

[0055] The first side wall can be joined to the dividing panel by a foldable boundary, and the overhang can extend beyond the foldable boundary.

[0056] A boundary between the projection and the dividing panel can be defined by a cut.

[0057] The dividing panel may comprise a cutout adjacent to the boundary that can be folded to accommodate the protrusion when the blank component is in an unfolded configuration.

[0058] The cutout in the dividing panel may have substantially the same shape as the protrusion.

[0059] The projection may comprise a first edge joined with the first side wall and a second edge opposite the first edge, the second edge being a free edge.

[0060] The length of the first edge can be greater than the length of the second edge.

[0061] The projection may comprise the third and fourth edges joining the first and second edges. The third and fourth edges may be inclined to define an acute angle next to the first edge and an obtuse angle next to the second edge.

[0062] The projection may be continuous with the first side wall.

[0063] The blank component of the cover may also comprise a secondary bottom panel and a third side wall joining the top panel with the secondary bottom panel.

[0064] The blank component of the cover may comprise several projections extending from the first side wall beyond the first edge of the divider to support a first edge of the panel. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 18 / 68 11 / 53 top on the assembled cover.

[0065] The invention also extends to a cover comprising the blank cover component of any preceding claim, arranged in a folded configuration such that the bottom panel, the top panel and the dividing panel are substantially parallel.

[00100] Figures 1 to 3 illustrate an arrangement in the form of a packaging insert for use in packaging such as that described. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 21 / 68 14 / 53 in the Applicant's European Patent Application, EP1140639.

[00101] The arrangement includes a first member 12 and a second member 14 that are coupled to each other via a guide member 16 or component in the form of a ribbon. When incorporated into a package, the arrangement can be housed in a cover 18, with the ribbon 16 arranged to wrap around a divider 20 that defines a first chamber 22 and a second chamber 24 within the cover 18 of the package, and the first and second members 12, 14 housed in the first and second chambers 22, 24, respectively, when the package is in a closed position. The package is configured so that movement of the first member 12 in a first direction out of the cover 18 guides movement of the second member 14 in a second opposite direction out of the cover 18.

[00102] Referring now to Figure 1 in particular, the first member 12 is a substantially flat panel having a front end 12a and a rear end 12b, and comprising a front edge 26, a rear edge 28, a left edge 30, a right edge 32, an upper surface (not shown) and a lower surface 34.

[00103] The first member comprises a connection region comprising a first break region 38, a first connection region and a main region that forms the remainder of the first member. The connection region defines a part of the first member 12 that can be separated from the remainder of the first member 12, i.e., the primary region, with ease when a force is applied by a user. As will be explained, the connection region is configured to detachably couple the main region of the first member to the tape. This connection region 38 is beneficial as it allows different components of the arrangement to be separated from each other more easily than would otherwise be possible. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 22 / 68 15 / 53 possible, for easy recycling of the arrangement. For example, in this arrangement, the connection region allows the main cardboard regions of the first and second members to be completely separated from the plastic tape.

[00104] The first rupture region 38 is rectangular in shape in this example, although the first rupture region 38 may have other shapes in other embodiments. The first rupture region 38 includes a rear edge 40, a front edge 42, a left edge 44, and a right edge 46. In this embodiment, the rear edge 40 of the first rupture region 38 is defined by a central part of the rear edge 28 of the first member 12, and a first perforation 48 defines the front, left, and right edges 42, 44, 46 of the first rupture region 38. Thus, the connection region of the first member is frangibly coupled to the main region of the first member.

[00105] The first bonding region 50 is provided in the first rupture region 38 of the first member 12. The first bonding region 50 comprises a first adhesive strip 52 that connects the first member 12 with the tape 16 when the arrangement is assembled, as illustrated in Figure 2. The first adhesive strip 52 is rectangular in this embodiment, and is generally provided centrally in the first rupture region 38. The first adhesive strip 52 is dimensioned so as to be fully contained within the first rupture region 38 when connected with the first member 12, with a first peripheral space 54 provided between the edges of the first adhesive strip 52 and the first rupture region 38. Ideally, the adhesive is fully contained within the first rupture region so that no adhesive remains in the main region of the first member when the arrangement is disassembled to allow for quick and easy recycling of the first member.

[00106] Referring now to Figure 2, the second member 14 Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 23 / 68 16 / 53 is also a substantially flat panel having a front end 14a and a rear end 14b, and comprising a front edge 56, a rear edge 58, a left edge 60, a right edge 62, a top surface 64 and a bottom surface (not shown).

[00107] The front edge 56 of the second member 14 comprises a rectangular cutout region 68 centrally proportioned along the width of the second member defined between its left and right edges 60, 62.

[00108] The second member 14 comprises a connection region comprising a second rupture region 70 and a second connection region, and a main region that forms the remainder of the second member. In a manner similar to the first member, the connection region of the second member defines a part of the second member 14 that can be easily separated from the main region of the second member 14 when a force is applied by a user. The connection region of the second member is thus configured to detachably couple the main region of the second member to the tape.

[00109] The second break region 70 includes a front edge 72, a back edge 74, a left edge 76, and a right edge 78. The front edge 72 of the second break region 70 is defined by a central part of the front edge 56 of the second member 14, and encompasses the part of the front edge 56 that defines the rectangular cutout 68. A second perforation 80 defines the back, left, and right edges 74, 76, 78 of the second break region 70.

[00110] A second bonding or connection region 82 is provided in the second break region 70 of the second member 14. The second bonding region 82 comprises a second adhesive strip 84 that connects the second member 14 with the tape 16 when the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 24 / 68 17 / 53 arrangement is assembled as illustrated in Figure 2. The second adhesive strip 84 is rectangular in this embodiment, and is dimensioned so as to be fully contained within the second rupture region 70 when connected with the second member 14, with a second peripheral space 86 between the edges of the second adhesive strip 84 and the second rupture region 70.

[00111] Still referring to Figure 2, the tape, or strip member 16, comprises a strip of packaging material joined at its ends to form a continuous loop. The tape 16 includes an inner surface 88 that defines an inner volume in which the divider 20 is received during use, and an outer surface 90 that faces away from the inner volume. As illustrated in Figure 2, when incorporated in this embodiment, the tape 16 is arranged so that it generally defines a rectangle in plan view (see Figure 11), and comprises the upper and lower halves 92, 94 joined by the front and rear edges 96, 98 provided at the front and rear ends 16a, 16b of the tape 16. The packaging material is typically a low-friction material, such as plastic film, which is selected so that the tape 16 slides easily around the divider 20 when the arrangement is incorporated into packaging for use.

[00112] When the arrangement is assembled as shown in Figure 2, the first end or front end 16a of the tape 16 is joined with the first member 12 in the first connection region 50, and the second end or rear end 16b of the tape 16 is joined with the second member 14 in the second connection region 82. In this way, the first member 12 and the second member 14 are coupled to each other via the tape 16.

[00113] When the arrangement is integrated into a package, the tape 16 is arranged to wrap around the package divider 20, which divides a tubular passage formed by the cover within a first Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 25 / 68 18 / 53 passage or upper passage 100 containing the first 12 and a second passage or lower passage 102 containing the second member 14. When a user pulls the first member 12 out of the cover 18 in a first direction, the first member 12 causes the tape 16 to turn around the divider 20, provided that the first member 12 is secured to the tape 16 in the first linking region 50. The movement of the tape 16 around the divider 20 causes the second member 14 to move in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, provided that the second member 14 is connected to the tape 16 in the second linking region 82. When the linking regions 50, 82 reach the ends of the divider 20, the first member 12 cannot be pulled further in the first direction, and the package remains in the fully open position, with both the first member and the second member 12, 14 extending out of the cover 18.

[00114] When the user pushes the first member 12 in the second direction, the first member causes the tape 16 to turn around the divider 20 so that the second member 14 moves in the first direction, back into the cover 18. When the first and second linking regions 50, 82 reach the opposite ends of the divider 20, the first member 12 cannot be further pushed into the package, and the package remains in the fully closed position, with the first and second members 12, 14 both housed within the cover 18 in the first and second chambers 22, 24, respectively.

[00115] When packaging incorporating this arrangement is to be discarded, it is advantageous that the constituent parts are easy to separate from one another, so as to allow the packaging to be quickly and easily disassembled for recycling. The arrangement of Figures 1 to 3 allows this direct incorporation of the rupture regions 38, 70 of the first and second members 12, 14, which allows Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 26 / 68 19 / 53 that the plastic material of the tape be separated from the cardboard material of the first and second members. In other words, easy separation of materials with different recycling categories is permitted. When a package is to be discarded, the user simply removes the tape from the package and separates the tape 16 from the first and second members 12, 14, so that the first and second members 12, 14 can be recycled together with the rest of the cardboard components of the package.

[00116] Separating tape 16 from the first and second members 12, 14, that is, separating the components of the arrangement, can be performed as follows. With the arrangement in the configuration shown in Figure 2, the user holds the first member 12 at its front end 12a with one hand and holds the second member 14 at its rear end 14b with the other hand. The user then pulls the first member 12 in a first pulling direction indicated by arrow A, and the second member 14 in a second pulling direction indicated by arrow B, so that the first and second members 12, 14 are pulled away from each other in opposite directions. When tape 16 extends between the first and second members 12, 14 and becomes taut, the user simply continues to pull until the first and second break regions 38, 70 separate from the surrounding regions of the first and second members 12, 14, respectively. For this purpose, the packaging is configured so that a greater force is required to separate the first and second members 12, 14 from the tape 16 than is required to remove the first and second rupture regions 38, 70 respectively, from the surrounding region of the first and second members 12, 14. Thus, when a user pulls the first and second members 12, 14 away from each other as described above, the rupture regions 38, 70 separate from their respective members 12, 14 before the members 12, 14. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 27 / 68 20 / 53 separate from tape 16.

[00117] Figure 3 illustrates the arrangement in a disassembled state, after the components of the arrangement have been separated for disposal. As shown, the rupture regions 38, 70 of the first and second members 12, 14 remain connected with the tape. Thus, the first and second members 12, 14 are now ready to be recycled with other suitable cardboard packaging components, being free of the plastic material of the tape 16 or any adhesive, all of which remain connected with the tape 16. In this example, the connection regions of the first and second members are configured so that they can be separated from the main regions of the first and second members. In other embodiments, as will be illustrated below, it is possible that the connection region may instead be separated from the tape.

[00118] Figures 4 to 16 illustrate an arrangement in packaging according to another embodiment of the invention. As in the previous embodiment, the arrangement in this embodiment is configured so as to be easily separable for disposal. Furthermore, the arrangement in this embodiment of the invention is advantageous because its characteristics allow for easy assembly of the arrangement, thus saving time, effort and cost in the assembly process, as will be explained.

[00119] Referring first to Figure 4, this shows the arrangement of this embodiment incorporated in a cover 218 to provide packaging for the invention. As in the previous embodiment, the arrangement comprises a first member 212, a second member 214 and a tape 216, and is housed in a cover 218 when mounted in the packaging.

[00120] Turning now to Figure 5, cover 218 comprises a flat blank component 300, which has a first Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 28 / 68 21 / 53 inner surface or surface 302 on one side and a second outer surface or surface (not visible in Figure 5) on the other side. Cover 218 is manufactured by cutting and creasing or scoring a sheet of flexible cardboard, plastic, tear-resistant laminate, or other material. In the embodiment presented, cover 218 is manufactured from a thick sheet of 0.5 mm mineral-filled polypropylene, such as that sold under the trademark PRO-Print. Thus, the sheet is flexible enough to allow the curvature that is necessary to form cover 218, but is rigid enough to provide structural support.

[00121] The blank component 300 comprises a front end 300a and a rear end 300b and consists of seven substantially oblong, one-piece sections or panels 304, 306, 308, 310, 312, 314, 316, each extending from the front end 300a to the rear end 300b of the blank component 300. Four of the sections, namely, a divider 304m, a lower inner wall 308, an upper wall 312, and a lower outer wall 316 are relatively wide, and three, namely, a left inner wall 306, a right outer wall 310, and a left outer wall 314, are relatively narrow. The lower inner wall 308, the upper wall 312, and the lower outer wall 316 are substantially the same length: this length is greater than the width of the sections in the drawings, but it need not be greater. The divider 304 is shorter in length than the lower inner wall 308, the upper wall 312, and the lower outer wall 316.

[00122] Sections 304, 306, 308, 310, 312, 314, 316 of blank component 300 are integral and demarcated from each other by folds or grooves 318. The folds 318 are all made so that the first surface 302 of the flat blank component 300 faces the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 29 / 68 22 / 53 interior and cover 218 is formed in a fully folded configuration, shown in Figure 6, by folding the blank flat component 302 along the folds 332 successively in a spiral-like manner, starting with the divider.

[00123] The upper wall 312 of the cover 218 comprises a curved notch 320 or cutout at the front end 300a of the blank component 300. Each of the inner and outer lower walls 308, 316 comprises a rectangular notch or cutout 322 at the front end of the blank component. When folded, the curved notch 320 in the upper wall 312 and the rectangular notches 322 in the inner and outer lower sections 308, 316 of the cover 218 are aligned with each other. In the assembled packaging, the curved notch 320 may align with a curved notch of a card housed within the packaging.

[00124] Figures 7 and 8 show the first member 212 of the arrangement of this modality in isolation.

[00125] Referring first to Figure 7, the first member 212 comprises a blank component 324 which includes first and second panels 326, 328, each of which is substantially flat in this embodiment. The first panel 326 has a front end 330, a rear end 332, a left side 334, a right side 336, a first surface or inner surface (not shown in Figure 7) and a second surface or outer surface 338. Correspondingly, the second panel 328 has a front end 342, a rear end 344, a left side 346, a right side 348, a first surface or inner surface (not shown in Figure 7) and a second surface or outer surface 350. Each of the first and second panels 326, 328 comprises a connecting region or part 354a, 354b, which together define a first connecting region or part 354 of Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 30 / 68 23 / 53 first member 212 when the first member 212 is formed, in which tape 216 is connected to the first member 212 when the arrangement is assembled, as will be explained. The remainder of the first member, encompassing the first connection region, defines a principal region of the first member.

[00126] The connection region 354a of the first panel 326 is located towards the rear end 332 of the first panel 326, and centrally across the width of the first panel 326 defined between the left and right side edges 334, 336 of the first panel 326. The connection region 354a of the first panel comprises a connection component in the form of an anchoring component 356. The anchoring component comprises first and second tabs 356a, 356b, which are generally rectangular in shape in this embodiment, and are defined by cuts in the first panel 326. The first and second tabs 356a, 356b together extend across approximately half the width of the first panel 326.

[00127] The first flap 356a comprises the front and rear edges 358, 360 joined by the left and right side edges 362, 364. The left side edge 362 joins a surrounding region of the first panel in a first fold or groove 366, also referred to as a hinged part of the first panel. The front, rear, and right side edges 358, 360, 364 are defined by the first front cut, first rear cut, and side cut in the first panel 326, such that these edges are not connected with the surrounding region of the first panel 326.

[00128] The second flap 356b comprises the front and rear edges 368, 370 joined by the left and right side edges 372, 374. The right side edge 374 joins a surrounding region of the first panel 326 in a second fold or groove 376, also referred to as the articulated part of the second panel. The front, rear and side edges Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 31 / 68 24 / 53 left 368, 370, 372 are defined by the second front cut, second rear cut and side cut in the first panel 326, so that these edges are not connected with the surrounding region of the first panel 326. The right side edge 364 of the first flap 356a and the left side edge 372 of the second flap 356b are adjacent and parallel to each other.

[00129] The distance between the front and rear edges of the first and second tabs 356a, 356b defines a width of the connection region 354a of the first panel 326. The distance between the left side edge 362 of the first tab 356a and the right side edge 374 of the second tab 356b defines a length of the connection region 354a of the first panel 326. The length of the connection region 354a is approximately half the width of the first panel 326.

[00130] The first and second tabs 356a, 356b are configured to be able to be folded between an unfolded position in which the tabs 354a, 354b are flush with the surrounding part of the first panel 326, and a folded position in which the tabs 356a, 356b are curved or folded along the folds 366, 376, so as to extend generally perpendicular to the plane of the first panel 326. When the tabs 356a, 356b are in the folded position, a tape receiving opening 356 is created in the first panel 326, in the area that houses the tabs 356a, 356b in their unfolded position. In other words, the hinged parts joining the tabs with the main region of the member reveal an opening in the first panel.

[00131] The connection region 354b of the second panel 328 is located towards the rear end 344 of the second panel 328, and centrally across the width of the second panel 328 defined between the left and right side edges 346, 348 of the second panel 328. The connection region 354b of the second panel 328 comprises a connection component comprising an opening. The opening is Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 32 / 68 25 / 53 in the form of an elongated tape receiving slot 378 defined by the front and rear edges 380, 382 and by the left and right side edges 384, 386. The distance between the front and rear edges 389, 382 of the slot 378 defines a width of the connection region 354b of the second panel 328. The distance between the left and right side edges 384, 386 of the slot 378 defines a length of the connection region 354b of the second panel 328. The length of the connection region 354b is approximately half the width of the second panel 328.

[00132] The first and second panels 326, 328 are joined at a fold or groove of the blank component 388 provided between their front ends 330, 342. To form the first member 212, the blank component 324 is folded into the fold of the blank component 388, and the inner surfaces 338, 350 of the first and second panels 326, 328 are joined together by means of adhesive provided on one or both of the inner surfaces 338, 350. Thus, the first and second panels are arranged one on top of the other, in a face-to-face arrangement. When the first member is formed, the first and second panels are coplanar to define a double wall, with the first panel defining a first wall and the second panel defining a second wall.

[00133] When formed, the front and rear ends and the left and right sides of the first and second panels 326, 328 align to form the front and rear ends 212a, 212b and the left and right sides 230, 232 of the first member 212, respectively, as shown in Figure 8. The distance between the front and rear ends 212a, 212b of the first member 212 defines a length of the first member 212 and the distance between the left and right sides 230, 232 of the first member 212 defines a width of the first member 212.

[00134] Furthermore, as seen in Figure 9, the connection regions Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 33 / 68 26 / 53 354a, 354b of the first and second panels 326, 328 align to form the first connection region 354 of the first member 212. The connection regions 354a, 354b of the first and second panels 326, 328 extend through substantially the same width of the first member 212, this being approximately half the width of the first member 212, and are centrally positioned across the width of the first member 212. The slot 378 of the connection region 354b of the second panel 328 is centrally positioned across the width of the first and second tabs 356a, 356b, and extends through approximately 1 / 6 of the width of the first and second tabs 356a, 356b in this embodiment. The slot of the second panel is adjacent to the tabs of the first panel when the first member is formed.

[00135] Referring to Figures 10 and 11, the second member 214 of this embodiment is identical to the first member 212, except that the second member 214 includes a rectangular cutout 390 in the rear edges 392, 394 of the first and second panels 396, 398, which together define a rectangular cutout 390 of the second member 214 when the second member 214 is formed. When the arrangement is incorporated into the cover 218, the rectangular cutout 390 of the second member 214 aligns with the rectangular and curved cutouts or notches 320, 322 of the cover 218 when the package is in the closed position.

[00136] Referring to Figure 12, tape 216 of this modality is identical to tape 16 of the modality of Figures 1 to 3, and will not be described in detail again here for brevity.

[00137] To assemble the arrangement of this modality, tape 216 is connected with the first and second members 212, 214 in their respective connection regions 354.

[00138] To connect tape 216 with the first member 212, the first and second tabs 356a, 356b of the first member are folded Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 34 / 68 27 / 53 outwards, along its junction edges 366, 376, in the unfolded position illustrated in Figure 13. The rear end of tape 216b is placed through tape receiving slot 378 and tape receiving opening 356 in succession, and is pulled in a first tape direction, X, so that a first smaller portion of tape 216 extends from tape receiving opening 356. In this example, the first tape direction X is substantially perpendicular to the plane of the first member 212, but it should be understood that this is not required. The upper and lower halves 292, 294 of tape 216 that define the first smaller portion are arranged to create a first smaller volume, defined between interior surfaces of the first smaller portion of tape 216, in which tabs 356a, 356b can be received.Tabs 356a, 356b are then folded inward along their joining edges 366, 376, in the unfolded or flat position, so that the inner surfaces of tabs 356a, 356b engage with the inner surface of tape 216. With tabs 356a, 356b in the unfolded position, the front end 216a is pulled in a second direction along tape Y, generally opposite to the first direction along tape X, until the inner surface of tape 216 engages with the outer surfaces of tabs 356a, 356b. The tape is now connected to the first member 212, and tabs 356a, 356b are essentially wrapped around tape 216 to form a mechanical connection between tape 216 and the first member 212.

[00139] The method for connecting tape 216 with the second member 214 is essentially the same as the method for the first member 212. The first and second tabs 356a, 356b of the second member 214 are folded outwards, along their joining edges 366, 376, to the unfolded position. The front end 216a of tape 216 is passed through the tape receiving slot 378 and the tape receiving opening 356 in succession, and is pulled in the second tape direction, Y, so that a second smaller part of tape 216 extends to Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 35 / 68 28 / 53 starting from the tape receiving opening 356. The upper and lower halves 292, 294 of tape 216, which define the smaller part, are arranged to create a second smaller volume, defined between the inner surfaces of the first smaller part of tape 216, into which tabs 356a, 356b can be received. Tabs 356a, 356b are then folded inward along their joining edges 366, 376, to the unfolded or leveled position, so that the inner surfaces of tabs 356a, 356b engage with the inner surface of tape 216. With tabs 356a, 356b in the unfolded position, tape 216 is pulled in the first X-direction until the inner surface of tape 216 engages with the outer surfaces of tabs 356a, 356b. Tape 216 is now connected to the second member 214, and tabs 356a, 356b are essentially surrounded by tape 216 to form a mechanical connection between the tape and the second member 214.

[00140] When the first and second members 212, 214 are connected with the tape 216, as described, the arrangement is ready to be incorporated into a cover 218 to form a package, as shown in Figure 4.

[00141] Referring first to Figure 4, this shows the arrangement of this embodiment incorporated in a cover 218 to provide packaging for the invention. Figures 14 to 16 illustrate additional views of the arrangement incorporated in cover 218 of Figure 5 to form packaging.

[00142] Figures 14 and 15 show the arrangement fully housed within the cover 218 in a fully retracted position, which corresponds to a fully closed position of the packaging. Figures 14 and 15 illustrate the positions of the first and second connection regions 354 when the packaging is in the closed position. Figure 16 shows a perspective view of the packaging when the arrangement is in a fully extended position, which corresponds Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 36 / 68 29 / 53 to a fully open position of the packaging.

[00143] The arrangement of this embodiment is disassembled essentially in the same way as in previous embodiments, in that the first and second members, in particular the main regions of the first and second members, are held by a user and pulled away from each other to disengage the mechanical coupling between the tape and the tabs of the first and second members. In this way, the connection regions of this embodiment are configured to be separable from the tape, rather than from the main regions of the first and second members. Thus, this embodiment advantageously provides complete separation of the plastic material of the tape and the cardboard material of the first and second members.

[00144] An arrangement according to a further embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to Figures 17 to 19. As in the embodiments previously described, the arrangement of this embodiment includes the first and second generally rectangular, substantially flat members 412, 414 which are coupled to each other by a strip 416.

[00145] The first member 412 has a front end 412a and a rear end 412b, and comprises a front edge 426, a rear edge 428, a left edge 430, a right edge 432, an upper surface 436 and a lower surface 434. Correspondingly, the second member 414 has a front end 414a and a rear end 414b, and comprises a front edge 456, a rear edge 458, a left edge 462, a right edge 460, an upper surface 464 and a lower surface 466. The second member 414 further comprises a rectangular cutout region 468 proportioned to its front edge 456, and centrally located along a Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 37 / 68 30 / 53 width of the second member 414 defined between its left and right edges 462, 460.

[00146] The first member 412 comprises a first hole or opening defined in a principal region of the first member. The first opening is provided toward a rear end 412b of the first member 412, a short distance behind a rear edge 428 of the first member 414. In this embodiment, the first opening 500 is generally circular and defines a through hole in the first member 412. That is, the first opening 500 extends through the entire thickness of the first member 412 defined between the upper and lower surfaces 436, 434 of the first member 412. In this embodiment, the first opening 500 is formed as a die-cut hole. In other embodiments, the first opening 500 may be formed by another method, and the first opening 500 may extend only partially through the thickness of the first member 412.

[00147] The connection region 482 of the second member 414 comprises a second hole or opening defined in a main region of the second member. The second opening is provided towards a front end 414a of the second member, a short distance set back from a front edge 456 of the second member 414, and comprises a second hole or opening 502 that is essentially identical to the first opening 500 of the first member 412, although this is not a requirement. That is, the connection region 482 of the second member 414 comprises a generally circular opening 502 in the form of a through hole, formed by die cutting. In other embodiments, it would be possible for the second opening 502 to differ from the first opening 500 in shape, form, and / or method of manufacture.

[00148] As in previous versions, each of the first and second members 412, 14 includes the connecting regions 450, Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 38 / 68 31 / 53 482 in which the first and second members 412, 414 are connected with tape 416 when the arrangement is assembled.

[00149] In this embodiment, the first and second connection regions are provided in the form of first and second adhesive pins. The first and second adhesive pins are identical, and each comprises a generally cylindrical body having first and second substantially flat faces joined by a curved outer surface. The body of each of the adhesive pins is dimensioned so as to be received into the first and second opening in a tight fit.

[00150] Turning now to Figure 18, the general form and material of tape 416 are the same as in previous embodiments. When incorporated into the arrangement of this embodiment, tape 416 is arranged so that it generally defines a rectangle in plan view and comprises the upper and lower halves 492, 494 joined by the front and rear edges 496, 498 provided at the front and rear ends 416a, 416b of tape 416.

[00151] To assemble this arrangement, the first and second adhesive pins 504, 506 are connected to the tape 416 by means of an adhesive. In particular, the first adhesive pin 504 is attached or connected to the outer surface of the upper half 492 of the tape 416 via the first face 504a of the pin, in a position towards the rear end 416b of the tape 416 and centrally across the width of the tape 416 defined between the left and right side edges of the tape 416. The second adhesive pin 506 is attached or connected to the outer surface of the lower half 494 of the tape 416 via the first face 506a of the pin 506, in a position towards the front end 416a of the tape 416 and centrally across the width of the tape 416.

[00152] To connect the first member 412 with the tape 416, the first opening 500 of the first member 412 is aligned with the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 39 / 68 32 / 53 first adhesive pin 504, so that the front and rear ends 416a, 416b, 412a, 412b of the tape 416 and the first member 412 are generally aligned, and the lower surface 434 of the first member 412 and the outer surface of the upper half 492 of the tape face each other. The first adhesive pin 504 is then inserted into the first opening 500, where it is received in a tight fit. In other words, the first adhesive pin 504 is pushed into the first opening 500. In this way, the first member 412 and the tape 416 are coupled to each other. Specifically, the connection region of the first member in the form of the first adhesive pin detachably couples the main region of the first member to the tape.

[00153] A similar procedure is followed to connect the second member 414 with the tape 416. The second opening 502 of the second member 414 is aligned with the second adhesive pin 506, so that the front and rear ends 416a, 416b, 414a, 414b of the tape 416 and the second member 414 are aligned, and the upper surface 464 of the second member 414 and the outer surface of the lower half 494 of the tape 416 face each other. The second adhesive pin 506 is then inserted, or pushed into place, within the second opening 502, so that the second member 414 and the tape 416 are coupled to each other. That is, the connection region of the second member in the form of the second adhesive pin detachably couples the main region of the second member to the tape.

[00154] In other embodiments, the shape, dimensions, and method for manufacturing the openings 500, 502 of the first and second members 412, 414 may differ from the embodiment of Figures 17 to 19, and / or may differ from each other. For example, although the openings 500, 502 of the first and second members 412, 414 are through holes in this embodiment, the first and second openings 500, Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 40 / 68 33 / 53 502 may extend only partially through the thickness of one or more members 412, 414 in other embodiments.

[00155] Furthermore, the shape and dimensions of the adhesive pins 504, 506 may differ from those described. In one embodiment, each of the pins 504, 506 may comprise a circumferential flange extending around its first faces 504a, 506a. Thus, the pins 504, 506 may connect the tape 416 with the members 412, 414 in a purely mechanical manner, without the need for an adhesive such as glue. In this case, the tape 416 may comprise openings through which the adhesive pins 504, 506 are received before being inserted into a press fit within the openings 500, 502 of the first and second members 412, 414, so that the circumferential flanges of the pins 504, 506 form limiting and retaining mechanisms. That is, the flanges can act to prevent pins 504, 506 from being pushed too far through the openings of members 412, 414, especially in the case where the openings 500, 502 of members 412, 414 are through holes.Furthermore, when the arrangement is assembled, the circumferential flanges engage with the inner surface of the tape 416, so that the tape 416 is sandwiched and secured between the circumferential flange of the adhesive pins 504, 506 and the lower and upper surfaces 434, 464 of the first and second members 412, 414.

[00156] To disassemble this arrangement, a user holds the main regions of the first and second members and extracts or pulls the first and second members away from each other. The first and second adhesive pins are pulled out of the first and second openings of the first and second members. Thus, when this arrangement is disassembled, the first and second adhesive pins of the first member remain connected with the tape, and the main regions of the first and second members are separated. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 41 / 68 34 / 53 from the connection regions, that is, the adhesive pins, of the first and second members. In this embodiment, the connection regions, that is, the first and second adhesive pins, are configured so that they can be separated from the main regions of the first and second members.

[00157] Figures 20 to 24 illustrate an arrangement according to another embodiment of the invention. As in previous embodiments, the arrangement comprises a first member 712, a second member 714 and a tape 716, and can be housed in a cover such as that in Figures 5 and 6.

[00158] The first member has a front end, a rear end, a left side, a right side, a first surface or inner surface and a second surface or outer surface. Correspondingly, the second member has a front end, a rear end, a left side, a right side, a first surface or inner surface and a second surface or outer surface.

[00159] The first member comprises a main region 718 and a rectangular opening 720 or through hole defined in the main region. The rectangular opening 720 is located towards the rear end of the first member, and centrally through the width of the first member defined between the left and right lateral edges of the first member. Correspondingly, the second member comprises a main region and a rectangular opening or through hole located towards the front end of the second member, and centrally through the width of the second member defined between the left and right lateral edges of the second member.

[00160] The tape of this embodiment is identical to the tapes of the previous embodiments and will not be described in detail again here for brevity. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 42 / 68 35 / 53

[00161] Each of the first and second members also comprises a connecting region that detachably couples the main region of the first and second members to the tape.

[00162] The connection regions comprise the first and second coupling means 722, 724, respectively, for detachably coupling the tape to the members. The first and second coupling means 722, 724 are identical to each other in this embodiment. Thus, only the first coupling means will be described for brevity.

[00163] The first coupling means 722 comprises a first adhesive strip 726 and a first coupling member 728. The first adhesive strip is rectangular in shape, and is dimensioned so as to extend through substantially the entire width of the tape when connected with the tape in the assembled state of the arrangement, as best appreciated with reference to Figure 22.

[00164] The first coupling member 728 is formed from a generally flat block comprising five rectangular sections or panels. Specifically, the block of the first coupling member includes three main panels and two smaller panels. The three main panels define a central panel 731 of the block and the first and second outer panels 732, 734, respectively of the blank component. The smaller panels comprise a first smaller panel 736 which is positioned between the first outer panel 732 and the center panel 731, and a second smaller panel 738 which is positioned between the second outer panel 734 and the center panel 731. The blank component panels are integral and demarcated from each other by folds or grooves 740. Specifically, a first fold joins the first outer panel 732 and the first smaller panel 736, a second fold joins the first smaller panel 736 and the center panel 731, and a third fold joins the center panel 731 and the second panel. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 43 / 68 36 / 53 smaller 738, a fourth fold joins the second smaller panel 738 and the second outer panel 734.

[00165] When the blank component is folded into the grooves to form the first coupling member 728, the smaller parts become substantially perpendicular to the main parts, and the first coupling member 728 defines a top hat profile, which is best illustrated in Figure 22 which shows the first coupling member 728 integrated within the arrangement. As will be explained, an outer surface of the central panel 731 defines a tape engagement surface and an inner surface of the central panel 731 defines an adhesive strip engagement surface. The outer panels 732, 734 define member engagement surfaces that engage with the first and second members 712, 714 in the assembled arrangement for mechanical coupling of the members with the tape 716. The smaller panels 736, 738 have a width that is substantially equal to or slightly greater than a thickness of the first member 712 defined between its upper and lower surfaces 750, 752.The central panel has a width that is substantially equal to or slightly less than the width of the opening of the first member.

[00166] As noted, the second coupling means 724 is identical to the first coupling means 722, comprising a second adhesive strip 826 and a second coupling member 828 identical to the first adhesive strip 726 and the first coupling member 728 of the first coupling means 722, and therefore will not be described here in detail. Equal parts of the first and second coupling means are provided with equal reference numbers.

[00167] To assemble this arrangement, the first and second coupling means 722, 724 are connected with the tape 716, and the first and second members 712, 714 are then connected Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 44 / 68 37 / 53 with tape 716 nos, and by means of the first and second coupling means 722, 724.

[00168] In the assembled arrangement, the first coupling means 722 is connected with the outer surface 754 of the upper half 756 of the tape 716, at the rear end of the tape, and the second coupling means is connected with the outer surface of the lower half 760 of the tape 716, at the front end of the tape 716.

[00169] The first coupling means 722 is connected to the tape 716 as described below. The first coupling member 728 is positioned towards the rear end, and centrally across the width of the tape 716. The outer surface of the central panel 731 is engaged with the outer surface 754 of the upper half 756 of the tape 716. The adhesive strip 726 is positioned across the width of the tape 716, so that a central region of the adhesive strip 726 contacts and adheres to the inner surface of the central panel 731. Outer regions of the adhesive strip 726 on either side of the central region contact and adhere to the outer surface 754 of the upper half 756 of the tape 716. In this way, the adhesive strip 726 joins the first coupling member 728 to the tape. When the first coupling member 728 is connected to the tape in this way, the outer panels or tabs of the first coupling member 728 are spaced from the tape 716 by a gap due to the smaller panels of the first coupling member. The size of the gap, corresponding to a width of the smaller panels, is dimensioned to be substantially equal to a thickness of the first member 712 defined between its upper and lower surfaces.

[00170] The method for connecting the second coupling medium to the second member is substantially the same as the method for connecting the first coupling medium to the first member. The second coupling member is positioned towards the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, page 45 / 68 38 / 53 front end, and centrally across the width of the tape. The outer surface of the central panel is engaged with the outer surface of the lower half of the tape. The adhesive strip is positioned across the width of the tape so that the central region of the adhesive strip contacts and adheres to the inner surface of the central panel, and outer regions of the adhesive strip on either side of the central region contact and adhere to the outer surface of the lower half of the tape. In this way, the adhesive strip connects the second coupling member to the tape. When the second coupling member is connected to the tape in this way, the outer panels of the second coupling member are spaced from the tape by a gap due to the smaller panels of the second coupling member. The size of the space, corresponding to the width of the smaller panels, is dimensioned to be substantially equal to the thickness of the second member defined between its upper and lower surfaces.

[00171] Once the first and second coupling means are connected to the tape, the first and second members are coupled or connected to the tape via the first and second coupling means.

[00172] To attach the first member to the tape, the outer panels of the first coupling member are folded inward toward each other and inserted through the opening in the first member. Specifically, the first and second outer panels are hinged around the first and fourth folds until the first and second outer panels extend substantially perpendicularly with respect to the plane of the center panel. Because the width of the center panel of the first coupling member is substantially equal to the width of the opening in the first member, this allows the first and second outer panels to be inserted. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 46 / 68 39 / 53 through the first opening simultaneously.

[00173] Once the first and second outer panels are received in the first opening, the inner surface of the first member is brought into contact with the outer surface of the tape, and the first and second outer panels are folded outward, away from each other, until the member engagement surfaces of the outer panels engage with the upper surface of the first member. In this way, the first member is coupled to the tape via the first coupling means.

[00174] The second member is coupled to the second coupling medium of the tape in essentially the same way that the first member is coupled to the first coupling medium, and therefore will not be described here in detail for brevity.

[00175] As with previous embodiments, the arrangement of this embodiment is advantageous insofar as it is easy to disassemble into its constituent parts, and thus provides a benefit in terms of ease of disposal for recycling. Separating the tape from the first and second members, that is, disassembling the arrangement, can be carried out essentially in the same way as for previous arrangements. That is, a user can hold the first and second members at their front and rear ends, respectively, and pull or extract the first and second members in opposite directions to release the mechanical coupling between the first coupling member and the first member and the second coupling member and the second member. In this way, the first and second outer panels are pulled out of the openings of the first and second members. The first and second connection regions of the first and second members remain connected to the tape, and the main regions of the first and second members are separated for easy recycling capability. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 47 / 68 40 / 53

[00176] When disassembled in this way, the first and second coupling means remain connected to the tape, but the first and second members are completely separated from the tape and other parts of the disposal for recycling.

[00177] In each of the described embodiments, the main regions of the first and second members are formed of materials that are not plastic, in these examples, cardboard, and the tape is formed of a plastic material.

[00178] Figures 25 to 28 illustrate an alternative cover for use in packaging.

[00179] Referring in particular to Figure 25, the cover comprises a flat blank component 802, which is substantially the same as the flat blank component of Figure 4, manufactured in the same manner by cutting and creasing or scoring a sheet of flexible cardboard, plastics, tear-resistant laminate, or other material. The sheet is flexible enough to allow the curvature that is necessary to form the cover 800, but is rigid enough to provide structural support.

[00180] As with the blank component of Figure 4, the blank component of Figure 25 consists of seven substantially oblong, one-piece sections or panels 812, 814, 816, 818, 820, 822, 824. Four of the sections, namely, a dividing panel 812, a bottom panel 816, an upper panel 820, and a secondary bottom panel 824, are relatively wide, and three, namely, a first side wall 814, a second side wall 818, and a third side wall 822, are relatively narrow. In the assembled cover, the dividing panel 812 divides the space between the upper and lower panels 816, 820, to define upper and lower compartments in the cover.

[00181] Each of sections 812, 814, 816, 818, 820, 822, 824 of the blank component 802 are whole and demarcated one of the Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 48 / 68 41 / 53 others by folds or grooves 832 (see the supplement to Figure 25). In particular, the first side wall 814 joins a first edge 834 of the dividing panel 812 with a first edge 836 of the lower panel 816, and meets these edges at the limits defined by the folds. The second side wall 818 joins a second edge 838 of the lower panel 816 with a second edge 842 of the upper panel 820 and meets these edges at the limits defined by the folds. The third side wall 822 joins a first edge 844 of the upper panel 820 with a second edge 846 of the secondary lower panel 824 and meets these edges at the limits defined by the folds.

[00182] The blank component of cover 802 of Figure 25 differs from the blank component of cover 802 of Figure 4 primarily in that the blank component of cover 802 of Figure 25 additionally comprises projections 840 that project from the first side wall 814 of the blank component 802. In particular, the first side wall 814 defines a side wall plane and the projections 840 project from the first side wall 814 substantially in the plane of the first side wall.

[00183] As can be seen more clearly in Figure 26, in the folded cover, the protrusions 814 project from the first side wall 812 beyond the first edge 834 of the divider panel 812 to support the top panel 820 along its first edge 844. In this way, the protrusions 840 act to hold the top panel 820 away from the divider panel 812 at its first edge 834, thus preventing compression of the top compartment of the cover.

[00184] Referring to Figure 27, which shows an enlarged view of a projection 840 with the cover 800 in the folded configuration, the first side wall 812 has a first height h1, while the second side wall 818 has a second height h2 that is greater than the first height h1. Projection 840 has a Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 49 / 68 42 / 53 height of the selected projection hp such that hi + hp = h2. Thus, when the upper panel 820 rests on the projections 840, the upper panel 820 is second at the same height above the lower panel (not visible) on each of the left and right sides: on one side by the second side wall 8i8 at height h2, and on the other side by the combination of the first side wall 814 with the projection 840 at height hi + hp = h2. Thus, the upper panel 820 is kept parallel to the lower panel.

[00185] Referring back to Figure 25 and in particular to the supplement to Figure 25 showing an enlarged part in the vicinity of protrusion 840, protrusion 840 is formed by being taken from the dividing panel 812.

[00186] In particular, the fold or boundary 832a of the dividing panel 812 and the first side wall 816 is interrupted by the projection 840. In the area of this interruption, the dividing panel 812 comprises a recess 850, and the projection 840 projects beyond the foldable boundary 832a into the recess 850. In other words, the part that is cut by the divider 812 by the recess 850 forms the projection, so that the shape of the recess defines the shape of the projection.

[00187] When the blank component 802 is left flat, as in Figure 25, the cutout 850 in the dividing panel 812 accommodates the protrusion 840. However, when the blank component 802 is folded to form the cover so that the first side wall 814 lies orthogonal to the dividing panel 812, as shown in Figure 28, the protrusion 840 remains in the plane of the first side wall 814, rather than in the plane of the dividing panel 812, so that the protrusion 840 rises imposingly from the first side wall 814 and extends upwards to project above the divider 812. This also reveals the cutout 850 in the dividing panel 812.

[00188] Still referring to Figure 28, protrusion 840 comprises Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 50 / 68 43 / 53 a first edge 852 joined with the first side wall 814 and a second edge 854 opposite the first edge 852. The second edge 854 is a free edge which, in the folded cover, supports the top panel. The first and second edges 852, 854 of the projection 840 are joined by the respective third and fourth edges 856, 858.

[00189] In this mode, a first edge length of 852 is greater than a second edge length of 854.

[00190] The third and fourth edges 856, 858 are inclined between the first and second edges 852, 854, and in particular, define an acute angle with the first edge 852 and an obtuse angle with the second edge 854. Thus, the protrusion 840 has a trapezoidal shape. The inclination of the third and fourth edges 856, 858, and the obtuse angle with the free edge 854 of the protrusion 840 facilitates the separation of the protrusion 840 from the dividing panel 812 when the blank component is folded for assembly, and also makes the free corners of the protrusion (i.e., the corners between the second edge 854 and the third and fourth edges 856, 858) more resistant to wear.

[00191] Figures 29 to 33 illustrate an arrangement according to another embodiment of the invention. As in previous embodiments, the arrangement comprises the first and second members, generally rectangular, and substantially flat 912, 914, which are also referred to as movable members. Each of the first and second members 912, 914 can be coupled to a tape 916, and thus, they can be coupled to each other by the tape 916.

[00192] The first member 912 has a front end 912a and a rear end 912b, and comprises a front edge 926, a rear edge 928, a left edge 930, a right edge 932, an upper surface 936 and a lower surface 934. During use, the upper surface 936 as shown defines a sliding surface that lies parallel to the divider and faces Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 51 / 68 44 / 53 for the tape. The first member 912 still comprises a first recess 900 which defines a first recess region or connection region 939 of the first member 912. The remainder of the first member 912 not defined by the connection region 939 defines a main region of the first member 912.

[00193] The first connection region 939 defines a part of the first member 912 to which the tape 916 is connected when the arrangement is assembled. As in the other embodiments described, the first connection region 939 is configured to detachably couple the main region of the first member 912 with the tape 916.

[00194] The first recess 900 is provided towards the rear end 912b of the first member 912, a short distance set back from the rear edge 928 of the first member 912, and centrally through the width of the first member 912 defined between its left and right edges 930, 932. The first recess 900 extends partially through the thickness of the first member 912 defined between the upper and lower surfaces 936, 934.

[00195] In this embodiment, the first recess 900 is generally circular, and is formed as a hole or depression etched into the upper surface 936 of the first member 912. As illustrated in Figure 30, the first recess 900 has a slight taper, and ends in a base 940 of the first recess 900. A vertical spacing between the base 940 of the recess and the sliding surface 936 defines a depth of the recess.

[00196] The first recess 90° extends approximately halfway through the defined thickness between the upper and lower surfaces 936, 934 of the first member 912 in this embodiment. In other embodiments, the first recess 90° may extend through a greater or lesser extent of the thickness of the first member 912, and may assume a different shape, provided Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 52 / 68 45 / 53 that the first recess 900 is suitable for accommodating an adhesive material (not shown). As will be explained in more detail later, the adhesive material lies flush or flush with the sliding surface 936 of the first member 912 when accommodated in the first recess 900, and couples the first member 912 to the tape 916 when the arrangement is assembled. The adhesive material may be glue, for example, or may take the form of any other suitable adhesive substance.

[00197] Referring to Figures 31 and 32, the second member 914 is of a different construction in relation to the first member, but can perform essentially the same function. The second member comprises first and second panels or walls 926, 928, joined by a joint 988.

[00198] Figure 31 shows that the second member 914 is formed by a blank component 924. In its unfolded state, the first and second panels 926, 928 are located end to end joined by the joint 988.

[00199] The first panel 926 has a front end 932, a left side 934, a right side 936, a first surface or inner surface (not shown in Figure 31) and a second surface or outer surface 938. Correspondingly, the second panel 928 has a front end 942, a rear end 944, a left side 946, a right side 948, a first surface or inner surface (not shown in Figure 31) and a second surface or outer surface 950.

[00200] Each of the first and second panels includes a rectangular cutout 990 on its rear edges, which together define a rectangular cutout of the second member 914 when the second member 914 is formed, which is positioned on the rear edge 968 of the second member 914, and located centrally along Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 53 / 68 46 / 53 a width of the second member 914 defined between its left and right edges 962, 960.

[00201] The first panel 926 further comprises a hole or opening in the panel 970 which is located towards the rear end 932 of the first panel 926, and centrally through the defined width between the left and right side edges 934, 936 of the first panel 926. In this embodiment, the opening in the panel 970 is formed as a die-cut hole, but in other embodiments, the opening in the panel 970 may be formed by another method. Furthermore, it would be possible for the opening in the panel 970 to extend only partially through the thickness of the first panel 926.

[00202] The joint 988 is defined by a fold or groove provided between the front ends 930, 942 of the panels. To form the second member 914, the blank component 924 is folded into the fold of the blank component 988, and the inner surfaces of the first and second panels 926, 928 are joined together by means of adhesive provided on one or both inner surfaces. Thus, the first and second panels 926, 928 are arranged one on top of the other, in a face-to-face arrangement. When the second member 914 is formed, the first and second panels 926, 928 become coplanar to define a double wall, with the first panel 926 defining a first wall and the second panel 928 defining a second wall.

[00203] Referring to Figure 32, when formed, the front and rear ends and the left and right sides of the first and second panels 926, 928 align to form the front and rear ends 914a, 914b and the left and right sides 930, 932 of the second member 914. The fully formed second member also defines a left edge 962, a right edge 960, a top surface 964 and a bottom surface 966. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 54 / 68 47 / 53

[00204] In use, the lower surface 966 defines a sliding surface that lies parallel to the divider and faces the tape.

[00205] The first and second panels 926, 928 together create a second recess 980 which defines a second recess region or connection region 954. The second connection region 954 is provided on the rear edge 958 of the second member, and is centrally located along a width of the second member 914 defined between its left and right edges 962, 960. The tape 916 is connected to the second member 914 at its second connection region 954 when the arrangement is assembled, which is configured to detachably couple the main region of the second member 914 to the tape 916. As in the other embodiments described, the remainder of the second member 914, encompassing the second connection region, defines a main region of the second member 914.

[00206] The second recess 980 is defined by the opening 970 in the first panel 926 and a continuous portion of the second panel 928 that covers the opening 970 when the second member 914 is formed. Thus, the continuous portion of the second panel 928 forms a base 972 of the second recess 980. As with the first recess 900 of the first member 912, the second recess 980 of the second member 914 accommodates an adhesive material (not shown) for attaching the second member 914 to the tape 916. The adhesive material is flush or flush with the lower surface 966 of the second member 914 when accommodated in the second recess 980.

[00207] As with the first member 912, a spacing between the bottom surface or sliding surface 966 and the base 972 defines a recess depth 980.

[00208] It should be understood that although the arrangement of Figures 29 to 34 has hitherto been described as including both the first and second members 912, 914, this is not a requirement. In some Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 55 / 68 48 / 53 arrangements, the arrangement may include only one of the first or second members 912, 914. Furthermore, in arrangements in which two members are included, these members may be different, for example, as described in the arrangement of Figures 29 to 34, or these two members may be substantially the same.

[00209] A method for assembling a package incorporating the arrangement of the embodiment of Figures 29 to 32 will now be described with reference to Figures 33 and 34. In this example, the arrangement of Figures 29 to 32 is incorporated into a cover such as that illustrated in Figures 5 and 6.

[00210] In a first step, a blank cover component 300 such as that shown in Figure 5 is provided, and tape 916 is arranged to wrap around divider 304 of the blank cover component 300. To accomplish this, the strip of foil material forming tape 916 is arranged to enclose divider 304 of the blank cover component 300, and the ends of the foil material are joined to form tape 916 around divider 304. It should be noted that divider 304, also referred to as a substrate, may not be integral with a cover or other packaging components in all embodiments. In some examples, divider 304 may simply be a flat sheet of material that can be attached to a cover, for example, using an adhesive or some mechanical means, so as to form the packaging.

[00211] With tape 916 in place, the blank cover component 300 is folded along the folds 332 successively in a spiral-like manner, starting with divider 304, to form a cover 218 which includes an upper passage 100 and a lower passage 102.

[00212] Referring to Figure 33, since cover 218 is Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 56 / 68 49 / 53 formed, the first and second members 912, 914 are prepared and incorporated within the packaging as described below.

[00213] To prepare the first and second members 912, 914 for integration into the cover 218, an adhesive material is applied to the first recess 900 of the first member 912 and to the second recess 982 of the second member 914. The adhesive material is applied so as to be flush or flush with the upper surface 936 of the first member 912 and the lower surface 966 of the second member 914, each of which defines a sliding surface of its respective member 912, 914. In use, when the arrangement or package is assembled, the sliding surface will face the tape 916.

[00214] In other words, the depth of the adhesive material in a direction substantially orthogonal to the sliding surface does not exceed the depth of the respective recess.

[00215] Arranging the adhesive material in this way is advantageous, as it is protected against the adhesive material transferring to the tape 916 or to other packaging components before intended. In the finished product, this also ensures that the first and second members 912, 914 can lie flat with respect to the divider or substrate 304, without being spaced too far from the substrate 304 in the adhesive region.

[00216] Once the adhesive material is placed in the recess of the first and second members 912, 914, the first and second members 912, 914 are inserted into the cover 218.

[00217] The first member 912 is inserted into the lower passage 102 of the cover 218, with the upper surface 936, that is, the sliding surface, of the first member 912 facing the tape 916. In this example, the first member 912 is inserted into the cover 218 so that the front end 912a of the first member 912 enters the cover 218 before the rear end 912b of the first member 912. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pp. 57 / 68 50 / 53 member 912. The first member 912 is then pushed into the sheath 218 until the ends 912a, 912b of the first member 912 generally align with the ends 218a of the sheath 218, as shown in Figure 34.

[00218] The second member 914 is inserted into the upper passage 100 of the cover 218, with the lower surface 966, that is, the sliding surface, of the second member 914 facing the tape 916. In this example, the second member 914 is inserted into the cover 218 at the opposite end of the cover from which the first member 912 is inserted. The second member 914 is inserted into the cover 218 so that the front end 914a of the second member 914 enters the cover 218 before the rear end 914b of the second member 914, and is then pushed into the cover 218 until the ends 914a, 914b of the second member 914 align with the ends 218a of the cover 218, as shown in Figure 34.

[00219] Because the adhesive material is flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface 936, 966 of each member 912, 914, the sliding surface can run smoothly over the tape 916 without the adhesive material sticking to the tape 916 to inhibit movement.

[00220] As stated above and as illustrated in Figure 33, the first and second members 912, 914 are inserted into sheath 218 at opposite ends of sheath 218 in this example. However, the first and second members 912, 914 may be inserted at the same end of sheath 218 in other embodiments. Furthermore, it should be understood that the first and second members 912, 914 may be inserted into sheath 218 simultaneously, or they may be inserted at different times.

[00221] Since the first and second members 912, 914 are in position on cover 218, with their ends 912a, 912b, 914a, Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 58 / 68 51 / 53 914b in general alignment with the ends 218a of the cover 218 as shown in Figure 34, and its sliding surfaces 936, 966 being parallel and facing the divider 304 and the tape 916, the first and second members 912, 914 are ready for connection with the tape 916.

[00222] To connect the first member 912 with the tape 916, pressure is applied to the tape 916 and / or to the first member 912 in the adhesive material region, so as to adhere or join the first member 912 with the tape 916. When pressure is applied in this way, for example, by a user pressing down on the cap 218 in the adhesive material region of the first member 912, this pushes the part of the first member 912 near the adhesive material towards and into contact with the tape 916. Continued pressure from the user pushes the adhesive material housed in the first recess 900 of the first member 912 into contact with the tape, thus connecting the first member 912 with the tape 916 via the adhesive material.

[00223] A similar method can be used for the second member 914 to connect the second member 914 with the ribbon 916.

[00224] It will be understood that the pressure to connect the first and second members 912, 914 can be applied manually or otherwise. It should also be understood that it is not required that the pressure be applied directly to the tape and / or to the first or second members 912, 914. Instead, the pressure can be applied to the tape 916 and / or to the first or second members 912, 914 via another component of the packaging, i.e., via the cover 218 as in the embodiment of Figure 34.

[00225] Furthermore, it should be understood that pressure can be applied to connect the first and second members 912, 914 with the tape 916 simultaneously or at different times. As an example, one method for applying this connection pressure could be Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 59 / 68 52 / 53 a user pressing the cover 218 between the thumb and index finger of each hand, so that pressure is applied simultaneously to the tape 916 and to the first and second limbs 912, 914 in the region of the adhesive material.

[00226] Incorporating the adhesive into the recesses 900, 980 of the first and second members 912, 914 so that it is flush or flush with the sliding surfaces 936, 966 is advantageous as this ensures that the adhesive material does not unintentionally transfer to other components, or simply before intended. This is especially important in the example described, in which the first and second members 912, 914 are incorporated into the package after the cover 218 and the tape 916 have already been assembled. Transfer of adhesive material before intended in this example could lead to member 912, 914 connecting to the wrong component, or in the wrong position, which would most likely result in the entire package being discarded. Transfer of adhesive material before intended could also lead to poor operation of the final package. For example, if a small amount of adhesive were transferred to the tape in the wrong position, this could result in less smooth movement of the sliding surface of the member in the packaging. Therefore, the invention protects against unnecessary waste of materials, loss of time in assembling packaging that must ultimately be discarded, and helps ensure the proper functioning of the final packaging.

[00227] Furthermore, in the finished package, because the adhesive material is flush or sub-flush with the sliding surface and does not project above the sliding surface, the adhesive material does not cause the first or second member 912, 914 to be spaced away from the tape 916. This means that the first and second members 912, 914 can lie flush with the tape 916, with the tape 916 being Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 60 / 68 53 / 53 positioned flat next to the divider. This ensures compact packaging and aids in the smooth movement of the tape-guided mechanism.

[00228] The method described above in relation to Figures 33 and 34 is only an example of how a package incorporating the arrangement of Figures 29 to 32 could be assembled, and should not be considered as limiting.

[00229] In one embodiment, the first and / or second member 912, 914 can be connected to the tape 916 before the tape 916 is incorporated within the cover 218 / package. For example, the tape 916 could be arranged around a divider in a manner similar to that described above, but in this case the divider can form a separate component instead of being provided as an integral part of the cover 218. Once the tape 916 is arranged in the divider, the first and / or second member 912, 914 can be connected to the tape in a manner similar to that already described. Once assembled, the arrangement can then be incorporated within a cover to form the final package. Alternatively, it would be possible for the first and / or second member 912, 914 to be connected to the tape 916 before the tape 916 is mounted on any type of divider or substrate.

[00230] Variations and modifications of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, which must fall within the scope of the appended claims. Petition 870240043196, dated 05 / 22 / 2024, pages 61 / 68
