Description
1 / 26 Closing cap for container and related manufacturing method.
[001] The present invention relates to a closing cap for a container and a related method of manufacturing said cap.
[002] In particular, the invention refers to a closing cap provided with a retaining ring, attachable to the neck of a container, the cap also being provided with a closing element which, after opening, remains connected to the retaining ring. The cap, according to the present invention, is particularly, but not exclusively, suitable for application to containers, such as bottles, intended to contain liquid substances.
[003] There are state-of-the-art lids for containers comprising a cup-shaped body provided with a transverse wall and a side wall extending around an axis, which are typically made of plastic material and provided with a parting line in the side wall to define a retaining ring and a locking element, which can be removablely engaged in the neck in order to open or close the container. The retaining ring is configured to remain anchored to the neck of the container. The locking element is provided with an internal threaded structure, suitable for engaging with an external threaded structure of the neck, to allow the lid to be unscrewed and screwed back onto the neck.
[004] Along the intended parting line, there are breakable bridges, which are intended to be broken when the cap is first opened. In fact, when the cap is first opened and unscrewed from the neck of the container, the closing element separates from the retaining ring along the intended parting line after the breakable bridges are broken, and in this way, the retaining ring can remain attached to the neck of the bottle, while the closing element can be separated from the container and subsequently screwed back onto the neck.
[005] The shape of the intended parting line determines how the closing element and the retaining ring separate from each other after the lid is first opened.
[006] On lids where the intended separation line is configured to be Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 107 / 144 2 / 26 extending circumferentially along the entire side wall, the closing element completely detaches from the retaining ring at the moment the lid is first opened. With these lids, the user can throw the closing element to the ground, intentionally or accidentally, and this behavior is obviously undesirable.
[007] To overcome this problem, caps have been proposed in which the intended separation line is interrupted circumferentially, leaving the closing element and the retaining ring joined in a joining zone. In these caps, typically, the closing element is rotated and held at a distance from the neck of the container, in the open cap condition, although it is still connected to the retaining ring through the joining zone.
[008] These caps are particularly complex and expensive to manufacture, mainly due to the need to make the intended parting line interrupted on the side wall of the cap, which is an additional processing step that must be carried out by casing molding.
[009] The intended interrupted parting line can be achieved by means of a cutting operation performed with a cutting tool, which in turn is interrupted. In this case, it is necessary to have available a plurality of cutting tools, different from each other, each specifically shaped for a specific lid shape.
[0010] Otherwise, the cutting tool can be configured to interact with the cap only along the entire angular extent of the intended parting line, but not in the joining zone. In the latter case, the cutting operation is interrupted and must be synchronized with any other characteristic parts of the cap. It follows that, in this case, it is necessary to design different cutting operations for different cap shapes, each one specific to the cap shape in question.
[0011] In both cases, the cutting operation is expensive, which affects the final cost of the lid.
[0012] One of the objectives of the invention is to improve prior art container lids, in particular lids equipped with a closing element that remains connected to a retaining ring. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 108 / 144 3 / 26
[0013] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a lid for a container, provided with a closing element that remains connected to the retaining ring, which can be manufactured in a simple and economical way.
[0014] In detail, according to the present invention, what is provided is a closing lid for a container, comprising a side wall extending around an axis and a transverse wall positioned at one end of the side wall, wherein a parting line is intended on the side wall to define: a retaining ring, which is configured to remain anchored to a neck of the container, and a locking element that is removablely engageable to the neck, so as to open or close the container; wherein the lid comprises a joining zone in which the retaining ring and the locking element are joined; wherein the intended parting line is positioned on a strip of the side wall which has a first enlarged part, the thickness of which is increased relative to the thickness of a second remaining part;and whereby the intended separation line is made by means of a 360° incision that partially cuts through the first enlarged section and traverses the entire thickness of the side wall in the second remaining section; so that the joining zone is defined in the first enlarged section.
[0015] Thanks to the widened first section and the 360° cut along the entire circumference of the lid, the manufacture of the lid is simplified.
[0016] In fact, it is possible to obtain the first enlarged part by means of usual molding operations during the manufacture of the cap, so that, subsequently, the cutting operation can always be carried out by means of a single cutting operation and with a single cutting tool. Different types of cutting tools are no longer needed for the respective cap shapes, nor is it necessary to design different cutting operations for different cap shapes.
[0017] Therefore, the lid is cheap and simple to manufacture.
[0018] According to one configuration, the first enlarged part projects inward, towards the inside of the lid, relative to the remaining second part.
[0019] Thanks to this, the usability of the lid is not compromised for the user, since, externally, the lid has a surface without protrusions. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 109 / 144 4 / 26
[0020] According to another configuration, the strip in which the first enlarged part is made has an axial height greater than or equal to 0.7 mm and less than or equal to 4.5 mm; preferably greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and less than or equal to 3.0 mm.
[0021] Thanks to this height, a high level of axial precision is not required in the 360° incision and therefore the cutting operation can be further simplified.
[0022] According to another configuration, the strip comprises a plurality of other enlarged first parts, which are distributed circumferentially in the strip and configured to be partially cut by the cutting step, so as to define breakable bridges along the intended parting line, which must break when the lid is first opened.
[0023] Thanks to the plurality of extended first parts, the same 360° incision line capable of defining the joining zone can simultaneously create breakable bridges in the lid, without the need to use interrupted blades, further simplifying the manufacture of the lid.
[0024] Advantageously, thanks to the present invention, the manufacture of the joining zone on the lid can be ensured in a simple and economical way.
[0025] According to another aspect of the present invention, a method is provided for manufacturing a closing lid for a container, wherein the lid comprises a side wall extending around an axis and a transverse wall positioned at one end of the side wall, wherein the method comprises a step of: - provide a strip of the side wall with an initial widened section, the thickness of which is increased relative to the thickness of a second remaining section; - Draw a desired parting line on the side wall strip to define: a retaining ring, configured to remain anchored to the neck of the container, and a removable, attachable closure element to the neck, so as to open or close the container; the step of drawing the desired parting line involves making a 360° incision so that it partially cuts the first enlarged part and goes through the entire thickness of the side wall in the second remaining part; thus defining a joining zone in the first enlarged part, in which the retaining ring and the closure element... Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 110 / 144 5 / 26 closures are joined.
[0026] Thanks to the manufacturing method of the present invention, the joining zone is made in a simple and economical way, thanks to the 360° cut and the first enlarged part.
[0027] The present invention can be better understood and implemented with reference to the accompanying figures, which illustrate various, but not limited to, examples of its configurations, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a closing cap according to the present invention, in which a transverse wall extends transversely to a Z-axis, comprising a closing element and a retaining ring connected to each other by a joining zone, in which the retaining ring extends to a free edge and comprises a tab-shaped engagement element, which has an initial end provided with a weakened portion that defines a deformable strip; Figure 2 is a cross-section of the lid from Figure 1, comprising a strip in which there is an initial enlarged part capable of defining the joining zone; Figure 3 is another cross-section of the lid from Figure 1, obtained with a section plane passing through a central line of the joining zone, with the central line parallel to the Z-axis; Figure 4 is an enlarged view of a detail of the cross-section of Figure 3, viewed from the right, showing the first enlarged part of the side wall; Figure 5 is another enlarged view of another detail of the cross-section of Figure 3, viewed from the left, showing a second remaining part of the side wall; Figure 6 is a perspective view of the lid from Figure 1 attached to the neck of a container, in the open condition; Figure 7 is a front perspective view of a variant of the cover from Figure 1, in which the side wall comprises a pair of cuts positioned in a central part of the deformable strip, so as to define, in the retaining ring, together with the weakened portion, a tab when the cover is in the open condition; Figure 8 is a perspective view of the lid from Figure 7, in the open condition, in which the flap rests on the neck; Figure 9 is a front perspective view of a variant of the lid in Figure 7, in which there is a protrusion on the flap that projects outwards; Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 111 / 144 6 / 26
[0028] With reference to Figures 1 to 9, the number 1 denotes a closing cap for a container 2, of which only a neck 201 is shown, the container 2 being, for example, a bottle intended to contain a liquid substance, such as a beverage.
[0029] Note that elements common to the various configurations will be labeled with the same reference numbers.
[0030] Cap 1 is made of polymeric material. Any polymeric material suitable for molding can be used to obtain cap 1.
[0031] The lid 1 is shown in Figure 1 in a closed condition, in which it is applied over the container 2. In this condition, the lid 1 comprises a side wall 3 that extends around a Z-axis and a transverse wall 4 positioned at one end of the side wall 3 so as to close that end. The transverse wall 4 extends transversely, in particular perpendicularly, to the Z-axis. The transverse wall 4 may be flat, although other shapes are theoretically possible. In the example shown, the transverse wall 4 has an essentially circular shape in plan view.
[0032] The side wall 3 and the cross wall 4 define a cup-shaped body suitable for receiving a final portion of the neck 201 of the container 2, so that the lid 1 can close the container 2 itself.
[0033] In particular, the side wall 3 is connected to the transverse wall 4 by means of a connection zone 401, which may have the shape, in cross section, of a chamfered edge or a circular connector.
[0034] The lid 1 comprises a parting line 5, provided in the side wall 3 to define a retaining ring 301, configured to remain anchored to the neck 201 of the container 2, and a closing element 302, removable and engageable with the neck 201, so as to open or close the container 2, i.e., to open or close a dispensing opening 203 of the neck 201.
[0035] The retaining ring 301 extends to a free edge 303.
[0036] It is observed that the side wall 3 may be provided, on its outer surface, with a plurality of serrated lines 312, which extend parallel to each other. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 112 / 144 Ί / 26 to the Z axis and are suitable for facilitating the fixing of the lid 1 by the user or by the crowning machine that applies the lid 1 to the container 2 to be closed.
[0037] The serrated lines 312 can be positioned on the closing element 302, as shown in the attached figures, but they can also, optionally, continue, according to a variant not illustrated, on the retaining ring 301.
[0038] The free edge 303 delimits the retaining ring 301 on the side opposite the transverse wall 4. Therefore, the retaining ring 301 extends between the intended parting line 5 and the free edge 303 and can be delimited by a cylindrical or truncated conical outer surface. Preferably, the intended parting line 5 is parallel to the free edge 303.
[0039] The cover comprises a joining zone 305 in which the retaining ring 301 and the closing element 302 are joined.
[0040] The junction zone 305 extends circumferentially by an angle θ around the Z-axis. The angle θ was shown in Figure 2, as if the cover 1 were viewed from above, i.e., from the side of the transverse wall 4.
[0041] The intended separation line 5 extends from a first end 501 to a second end 502, between which the joining zone 305 is defined.
[0042] The intended parting line 5 is positioned in a strip of the side wall 3 which has a first enlarged part 316, whose radial thickness is increased relative to the radial thickness of a second remaining part 317.
[0043] The intended parting line 5 is made by means of an incision, that is, a cut, which extends over 360°, which partially cuts the first enlarged part 316 and goes through the entire thickness of the side wall 3 in the second remaining part 317, so that the joining zone 305 is defined in the first enlarged part 316.
[0044] Thanks to the enlarged first part 316 and the 360° circumference cut of the lid, not only are different types of cutting tools no longer needed for the respective lid shapes, but it is also no longer necessary to design different cutting operations for different lid shapes.
[0045] In fact, the first enlarged part 316 can be obtained through usual compression or injection molding operations, designing suitable molds, while Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, page 113 / 144, states that a 360° circumferential cut requires a single cutting tool and a single cutting operation.
[0046] As indicated below, even if cover 1 has components that need to be angularly adjusted in relation to the joining zone 305, the 360° cutting operation remains unchanged with respect to this adjustment.
[0047] Consequently, the lid is cheap and simple to manufacture.
[0048] The first end 501 and the second end 502 of the intended parting line 5 are immediately adjacent to the first enlarged part 316, although they are in the second remaining part 317.
[0049] In fact, the first end 501 and the second end 502 delimit the intended separation line 5 when the retaining ring 301 separates from the closing element 302, although they remain joined to the latter in the joining zone 305.
[0050] The first enlarged part 316 may have a constant thickness, which may be greater than or equal to 1.5 times and less than or equal to 3 times the thickness of the second remaining part 317.
[0051] Thanks to this difference in thickness between the first enlarged part 316 and the second remaining part 317, the first enlarged part 316 is only partially cut (Figure 4), while the incision passes through the second remaining part 317 (Figure 5). The difference between the two thicknesses ensures that the uncut portion of the first enlarged part 316 is resistant and guarantees many opening and closing actions of the container 2 by the user.
[0052] It should be noted that the first enlarged part 316 projects inwards, towards the inner part of the lid, in relation to the remaining second part 317.
[0053] Although this is not necessary, since the first enlarged part 316 may even have the shape of an outward projection in relation to the lid 1, the inward projecting shape allows the outer surface of the lid 1 to be kept straight, making it easier for the user to grip the lid 1.
[0054] Considering the side wall strip 3 in which the first enlarged part 316 is present, it has an axial height (considered parallel to the Z axis) greater than or equal to 0.7 mm and less than or equal to 4.5 mm; preferably greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and less Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 114 / 144 9 / 26 or equal to 3 mm.
[0055] Thanks to the fact that the first enlarged part 316 extends axially to the height indicated above, the 360° transverse incision to form the intended parting line 5 can be made without excessive checking of its axial positioning, which helps to further simplify the manufacture of the cap 1.
[0056] Along the intended separation line 5, there are breakable bridges 503, which break when cover 1 is first opened and which are shown, already broken, in Figures 6 and 8.
[0057] The first opening of cover 1 is the first time that cover 1 is opened and the closing element 302 is separated from the retaining element 301.
[0058] To this end, the strip comprises a plurality of first enlarged parts 318 with an angular extension smaller than that of the first enlarged part 316, which are distributed circumferentially in the strip and configured to be partially cut by the 360° cut in order to define breakable bridges. 503.
[0059] Thanks to the fact that even breakable bridges 503 are made by means of the enlarged additional parts 318, the 360° cut simultaneously creates the joining zone 305 and the breakable bridges 503.
[0060] The first additional enlarged parts 318 have a constant thickness that is greater than or equal to 1.2 times and less than or equal to 1.45 times the thickness of the second remaining part 317.
[0061] In other words, the thickness of the first enlarged additional parts 318 is less than the thickness of the first enlarged additional part 316, so that the first enlarged additional parts 318 have respective uncut additional portions that can, however, be broken by a user when the cover 1 is first opened, so as to define the breakable bridges 503.
[0062] Even if the first additional enlarged part 316 extends axially across the entire strip with an axial height greater than or equal to 0.7 mm and less than or equal to 4.5 mm, preferably greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and less than or equal to 3 mm, which is not required for the first additionally enlarged parts 318, which may extend axially to respective heights less than the height of the strip, provided that these respective heights Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 115 / 144 10 / 26 are such that they are intercepted by the intended separation line 5, made by means of a 360° cut.
[0063] According to an alternative variant of cover 1, not shown in the attached figures, the first enlarged part can be made by means of a plurality of parallel sections, side by side, extending parallel to the Z axis.
[0064] In other words, the plurality of sections of the first enlarged part may be similar to the first 318 additionally enlarged parts and may extend parallel to the Z axis.
[0065] Therefore, the first enlarged part 316 may have a thickness that is not angularly constant, since it has a maximum thickness in each section and a minimum thickness, for example, equal to the thickness of the remaining second part 317, between two adjacent sections.
[0066] Similarly to what was said before, it remains the case that each section has a maximum thickness that is greater than or equal to 1.5 times and less than or equal to 3 times the thickness of the remaining second part 317, to ensure the robustness of each section, and that extends axially to the height indicated above for the range that is greater than or equal to 0.7 mm and less than or equal to 4.5 mm, preferably greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and less than or equal to 3 mm.
[0067] It should be noted that, as shown in Figure 1, the retaining ring 301 comprises an engagement element 306 that projects inward and has an initial end 306a, which is positioned on or near the free edge 303, and a final end 306b, which is configured to engage with a retaining ring 202 of the neck 201 of the container 2, during the transition from a closed to an open condition of the lid 1.
[0068] In other words, the engagement element 306 can project from the free edge 303 or from an internal region of the retaining ring 301 positioned close to the free edge 303, as shown in the attached figures.
[0069] When the lid 1 is closed, the engagement element 306 is positioned in a curved configuration between the retaining ring 301 and the neck 201 of the container 2.
[0070] It is observed that, in use, at the end of a molding procedure, it obtains Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 116 / 144 11 / 26 if a cup-shaped shell, not illustrated, having a side wall 3 extending from the transverse wall 4 to the free edge 303, beyond which extends a panel intended to form the engagement element 306.
[0071] The panel has the initial end 306a, positioned adjacent to the free edge 303, or close to the free edge 303, and the final end 306b.
[0072] The engagement element 306 can be molded inwards, that is, it can be formed in the housing already directly bent inwards, towards the inner part of the cover 1, or it can be molded outwards from the cover 1, that is, it can be made as a projection that extends beyond the free edge 303 and then must be bent.
[0073] The coupling element 306 can be made as a single continuous tab or, alternatively, it can be made as a plurality of projecting tabs, and in both the case of the single continuous tab and the plurality of projecting tabs, they project inwards from the initial end 306a. In other words, the coupling element 306 can be interrupted or continuous.
[0074] It should be noted that, in the attached figures, the coupling element 306 comprises a continuous annular root, projecting inwards from the initial end 306a, from which project a plurality of equally spaced and separated protruding tabs, extending to the final end 306b.
[0075] The single continuous flap, or plurality of protruding flaps, has at most one length, measured as the free edge distance 303 between the initial end 306a and the final end 306b, which is suitably selected in such a way that the final end 306b can engage with the retaining ring 202 when the cover 1 is first opened, i.e., on the first passage from the closed condition to the open condition of the cover 1.
[0076] Therefore, the engagement element 306 is positioned in a lower portion of the retaining ring 301 and, therefore, of the lid 1, when the lid 1 is joined to the container 2 and the container 2 is positioned vertically. The engagement element 306 extends circumferentially around the entire circumference of the lid 1 to make contact with the retaining ring 202.
[0077] Note that the retaining ring 202, shown in Figures 6 and 8, projects Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 117 / 144 12 / 26 if from an external surface of the neck 201.
[0078] The retaining ring 202 is an annular protrusion that extends in a plane transverse to the Z-axis and has, considering a plane passing through the Z-axis, an essentially triangular cross-section. An upper wall of the retaining ring 202, directed towards the distribution opening 203, is inclined relative to a lower wall, which is directed towards the bottom (not shown) of the container 2 and is essentially flat. In other words, the retaining ring 202 has a truncated cone shape and the upper and lower walls are connected to each other.
[0079] The initial end 306a of the engagement element 306 comprises a weakened portion 307, which extends circumferentially at least at angle o, which corresponds to the union zone 305, and is such that it defines a deformable strip 308 in the retaining ring 301, capable of separating from the engagement element 306 and facilitating the passage of the cover 1 from a closed condition to an open condition.
[0080] It should be noted that the weakened portion 307 extends angularly across the entire angle o.
[0081] It should be emphasized that the weakened portion 307 can be obtained by means of usual molding operations during the manufacture of the cap 1, and therefore there is no need for additional processing operations or incisions in the side wall 3, except for the incision necessary to make the intended parting line 5.
[0082] Thanks to the intended parting line 5, made by means of the 360° cut, and the first enlarged part 316, which defines the joining zone 305, it is not necessary to angularly align the cutting operation with the positioning of the weakened portion 307.
[0083] Both the first enlarged part 316 and the weakened portion 317 can be made during molding, by designing suitable molds, so that, subsequently, the 360° circumferential incision can easily define the union zone 305 and, optionally, the bridges 503, if the bridges 503 are made by means of the first enlarged parts 318.
[0084] Therefore, a lid 1 is produced, which is cheap and simple to manufacture, as well as being easy for the user to handle.
[0085] It should be noted that the deformable strip 308 is configured to separate from Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 118 / 144 13 / 26 an internal part (not shown) of the coupling element 306.
[0086] Because of this, it has an axial movement capability that follows the movement of the closing element 302, when it moves away from the retaining ring 301 which is still retained below the retaining ring 202. This makes it easier for the user to unscrew the neck cap 201 or screw it back onto the neck.
[0087] The circumferential extent of the weakened portion 307 determines a corresponding length of the deformable strip 308 and, therefore, the ability of the deformable strip 308 to deform, and / or tilt, and / or rotate when the cover 1 is in the open condition.
[0088] Therefore, the user can easily disengage the closing element 302 from the neck 201 of the container 2, when transitioning from the closed to the open condition, or re-engage it in the neck 201, when transitioning in the opposite direction to the closed condition.
[0089] It is observed that the deformable strip 308 extends axially, i.e., parallel to the Z-axis, throughout the axial extent of the retaining ring 301, since, when positioning the weakened portion 307 at the initial end 306a of the engagement element 306, during the opening of the lid 1, the inner part of the engagement element 306, which is inside the lid 1 and facing the deformable strip 308, is separated from the deformable strip 308, which is on the outer part of the lid 1. Consequently, the deformable strip 308 is resistant even for lids 1 with reduced height.
[0090] The inner part of the engagement element 306 remains in contact with the neck 201, even when the deformable strip 308 separates from the engagement element 306.
[0091] The weakened portion 307 may be a slot, which defines an outer edge 307' on the side of the deformable strip 307 and an inner edge 307 on the side of the engagement element 306, which face each other in the closed condition, as shown at least in Figure 1.
[0092] As already emphasized, the slit can be obtained during the molding of the cap 1 and does not require any other additional operations.
[0093] Alternatively, the weakened portion 307 may be a cut.
[0094] Optionally, according to a configuration not shown, the weakened portion 307 may have breakable elements, for example, positioned equally Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 119 / 144 14 / 26 spaced apart from each other along the gap. The breakable elements of the weakened portion 307, together with the breakable bridges 503 positioned along the intended parting line 5, are also designed to break when the cover 1 is first opened.
[0095] Along the initial end 306a of the coupling element 306, there is a plurality of drainage openings 304, which have a smaller angular extension than that of the weakened portion 307, are equally spaced from each other and serve to drain any washing liquid after molding of the cap 1.
[0096] If the weakened portion 307 has a greater angular extent than that of the junction zone 305, the deformable strip 308 has a central part 309 circumferentially corresponding to the junction zone 305, which is positioned between a first lateral part 310 and a second lateral part 311, as shown at least in Figure 6.
[0097] The central part 309 is configured to rotate together with the closing element 302, when transitioning from the closed condition to the open condition, and to rest on the neck 201 when the closing element 302 is in the open condition.
[0098] Thanks to the fact that the central part 309 remains essentially aligned with the closing element 301 and supported on the neck 201, it can stably lock the closing element 301 and prevent any rotation around the neck 201.
[0099] It should be noted that the central part 309 has a respective end portion that corresponds to a central section 307'a of the outer edge 307', which is directed towards the distribution opening 203 of the neck 201 in the open condition.
[00100] The intended separation line 5 comprises a first lateral section 504, extending from a first end 501 of the intended separation line 5, and a second lateral section 505, extending from a second end 502 of the intended separation line 5, which are positioned on the sides of the joining zone 305.
[00101] The first lateral part 310 of the deformable strip 308 is defined between the first lateral section 504 and a first lateral section 307'b of the outer edge 307'. The second lateral part 311 of the deformable strip 308 is defined between the second lateral section Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 120 / 144 15 / 26 505 of the intended separation line 5 and a second lateral section (not illustrated) of the outer edge 307'.
[00102] As can be seen in Figure 6, the first side part 310 and the second side part 311 of the deformable strip 308 are configured to twist when the cover 1 is in the open condition.
[00103] Thanks to this twist, the locking element 302 is locked in the movement towards the distribution opening 203 and therefore the position of the locking element 302 in the open condition is stable, even when a user inadvertently hits the locking element 302.
[00104] It should be noted that, on cover 1, a center line of the junction zone 305 is aligned with a corresponding center line of the weakened portion 307.
[00105] However, this is not necessary, since the junction zone 305 can be angularly displaced relative to the weakened portion 307 and, in this case, the first lateral part 310 and the second lateral part 311 can have a different circumferential extent and therefore different lengths.
[00106] Figures 7 and 8 show a variant 1' of cover 1, which differs from cover 1 only by having a central part 309' of the deformable strip 308, which differs from the central part 309 of cover 1 by comprising two cuts 6 to define a tab 313 in the retaining ring 301, together with the weakened portion 307, when the cover is in the open condition.
[00107] For this cover 1, the weakened portion 307 can extend angularly into the joining zone 305. In other words, the deformable strip 308 can correspond to the central part 309', in the sense that it can extend exclusively to the joining zone 305.
[00108] Thanks to the two cuts 6, the deformability of the deformable strip 308 is increased and the flap 313 is created which, when the cover 1' is open, rests on the neck 201, as shown in Figure 8.
[00109] Cuts 6 can be made by means of a cutting operation performed with cutting tools that engage the cup-shaped shell, after it has been made. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 121 / 144 16 / 26
[00110] The cutting tools can go through the entire thickness of the side wall 3, but they can also not cut through the entire thickness of the side wall 3 and only partially cut the side wall 3, so as to leave, along the cuts 6, a thin membrane intended to be broken when the cover 1' is opened for the first time.
[00111] This membrane can extend across the entire length of the cuts 6, or a limited part of them, with the remaining part of the cuts 6 being made by means of a cut that goes through the entire thickness of the side wall 3.
[00112] It is observed that cuts 6 extend into the central part 309' of the deformable strip, from the free edge 303, or from a region close to the free edge 303.
[00113] If the cuts 6 are made by means of through cuts that traverse the entire thickness of the side wall 3, the retaining ring 301, in which the cuts 6 are disposed, may comprise respective breakable parts (not illustrated) intended to break when the cover 1' is first opened, to define the tab 313, each breakable part being positioned along a respective cut 6. For example, the breakable parts may be positioned near the free edge 303.
[00114] The cutting tools, in the case of through cuts that go through the entire thickness of the side wall 3, can interact from the outside of the latter or from the inside.
[00115] However, the cutting operation described above is not necessary, since the cuts 6 can also be performed at the time of molding the cup-shaped shell, using appropriately designed molds.
[00116] Thanks to tab 313, configured to rest on bottleneck 201, the closing element 302 can be locked even more stably on bottleneck 201 in the open condition. This also helps to create a stable open condition for the user.
[00117] However, what has been said previously still applies, namely, the deformable strip 308 may optionally comprise a first lateral part 310 and a second lateral part 311, defined respectively between the first lateral section 504 of the intended parting line 4 and the first lateral section 307'b of the outer edge 307' and between the second lateral section 505 of the intended parting line 5 and the second lateral section of the outer edge 307, if it is necessary to have a deformable strip 308 with Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 122 / 144 17 / 26 dimensions larger than the junction zone 305.
[00118] The cover 1' comprises a first hinge element 314, positioned between the first end 501 of the intended parting line 5 and a cut 6, and a second hinge element 315, positioned between the second end 502 of the intended parting line 5 and the other cut 6.
[00119] In the presence of flap 313, only the first hinge element 314 and the second hinge element 315 are configured to rotate when the lid 1' is in the open condition, as shown in Figure 10, but not the first side part 310 and the second side part 311 of the deformable strip, as for lid 1. In fact, the first side part 310 and the second side part 311 are configured to allow a movement capability, along the axial line, so as to ensure the disengagement of the closing element 302 from the neck 201 of the container 2.
[00120] The first hinge element 314 and the second hinge element 315 are, in fact, respectively portions of the central part 309', which are positioned on the sides of the flange 313. In fact, the flange 313 has a respective end portion, which is directed towards the distribution opening 203 of the neck 201 in the open condition and has a smaller angular extension than that of the central section 307'a of the outer edge 307', corresponding only to part of that central section 307'a.
[00121] Thanks to the torsion of the hinge elements 314 and 315, including for the cover 1', the locking of the closing element 302 is guaranteed in the movement towards the distribution opening 203.
[00122] It should be noted that, also for cover 1' in Figures 7 and 8, the first enlarged part 316 and the first further enlarged parts 318 are present, to form, respectively, the joining zone 305 and the breakable bridges 503. The first enlarged part also facilitates optional reinforcement on the flap 313.
[00123] Figure 9 shows a variant 1 of the cap Γ, which differs from the cap 1' only in that the tab 313, defined in the retaining ring 301, together with the weakened portion 307, has externally a protrusion 320 that projects from the tab 313, so that, when the closing element 302 is in the open position, the protrusion 320 can rest on the neck 201. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 123 / 144 18 / 26
[00124] Everything previously stated for the 'cover law' still applies, unless otherwise indicated.
[00125] Preferably, protrusion 320 is positioned centrally on flange 313, that is, it is positioned centrally with respect to a plane containing the Z-axis and a centerline of flange 313.
[00126] If we now consider a thickness of the protrusion 320, measured in the closed position along a line parallel to the Z axis, this thickness can be selected appropriately in order to allow selection of the preferred location where the protrusion 320 makes contact with the neck 201.
[00127] The thickness of the 320 protrusion may be constant throughout the entire circumferential angle of extension of the 320 protrusion around the Z-axis, or the 320 protrusion may have a variable thickness around the Z-axis.
[00128] If we now consider a height of the projection 320, measured in the closed position along a transverse line, in particular perpendicular to the Z axis, i.e., radially, if we consider that the side wall 3 has a cylindrical shape, this height can be constant for the entire extension angle of the projection 320 around the Z axis, as shown in Figure 9.
[00129] Alternatively, the height of the 320 protrusion can be variable along the entire extension angle of the 320 protrusion around the Z-axis to define a 320 protrusion with a concave, convex, interrupted, or flat end edge.
[00130] The side wall 3 of the lid 1, 1' or 1 is internally provided with a coupling structure 7, configured to removablely couple the closing element 302 to the neck 201 of the container 2, so that the lid 1, 1' or 1 is movable from the closed condition, in which the lid 1, 1' or 1 closes the dispensing opening 203 of the container 2, to the open condition.
[00131] The coupling structure 7 of the lid 1, 1' or 1 is positioned inside the closing element 302 and is shaped to engage with a corresponding coupling structure 204 present on the outside of the neck 201 of the container 2. The coupling structure 7 of the closing element 302 and the coupling structure 204 of the neck 201 are, as illustrated in the attached figures, made in the form of a structure Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 124 / 144 19 / 26 thread. In this case, the transition from the closed condition to the open condition is achieved by rotating the closing element 302 relative to the neck 201 of the container 2.
[00132] The closing element 302 is completely disengaged from the neck 201 when the coupling structure 7 of the cap 1,1' or 1, i.e., the threaded structure 7 of the cap 1,1' or 1, is unscrewed from the coupling structure 204 of the neck 201, i.e., from the threaded structure 204 of the neck 201.
[00133] When cover 1, 1' or 1 is in the closed condition and has never been opened, the engagement element 306 is disposed at least partially below the retaining ring 202.
[00134] The lid 1,1' or 1 described here can, for example, be applied to containers 2 with a neck 201, which extends for a height X along the Z-axis that is greater than or equal to 9 mm and less than or equal to 27 mm, i.e., 9 mm <X <27 mm.
[00135] Considering the CETIE standards, the international organization that publishes technical reference documentation and standards relating to the bottling industry, the cap 1, 1' or 1 according to the present invention can be advantageously applied, but not exclusively, to the necks 201 included in the list provided below:
[00136] gme 30.39; gme 30.28; gme 30.37; gme 30.38; gme 30.32; gme 30.23; gme 30.24; PCO1881; PCO1873; PCO1810; gme 30.26; gme 30.33; gme 30.21; gme 30.22; gme 30.36; gme 30.31; gme 30.30; gme 30.25; gme 30.29.
[00137] The gme coding refers to the CETIE coding standard for bottleneck specifications (Finish Data Sheets).
[00138] The PCO coding refers to the English acronym for Plastic Closure Only, and this term, followed by a four-digit number, such as 1881, is frequently used by the ISBT (International Society of Beverage Technologists) association.
[00139] The coding provided above identifies all size characteristics of bottlenecks 201.
[00140] In use, at the end of a molding procedure, a cup-shaped shell is obtained (not illustrated), which has a side wall 3 that extends from the wall Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 125 / 144 20 / 26 transversal 4 to the free edge 303, beyond which extends the panel intended to form the engagement element 306, which has the initial end 306a and the final end 306b.
[00141] When the cup-shaped object receives a final portion of the neck 201 of the container 2, the panel is, for example, folded to form the engagement element 306 which projects from the free edge 303 and has the final end 306b configured to engage with the retaining ring 202 of the neck 201. In this way, a lid 1 is obtained having a cup-shaped body capable of closing the container 2, as shown in Figure 1.
[00142] Note that what applies to cap 1 also applies to cap 1' or 1 described previously. Any differences will be described in more detail below.
[00143] The method for manufacturing cap 1, described previously, comprises the step of: - provide a side wall strip 3 with a first enlarged part 316, whose thickness is increased relative to the thickness of a second remaining part 317; - Make a desired separation line 5 in the side wall strip 3 to define: a retaining ring 301, configured to remain anchored to a neck 201 of the container 2 and a removable and engageable closing element 302 with the neck 201, so as to open or close the container 2.
[00144] The manufacturing step of the intended separation line 5 comprises: - making a 360° incision so that it partially cuts the first enlarged part 316 and goes through the entire thickness of the side wall 3 in the second remaining part 317; - define, therefore, a joining zone 305 in the first enlarged part 316, in which the retaining ring 301 and the closing element 302 are joined.
[00145] The cover 1, obtained in this way, has a closing element 302 and a retaining element 301, configured to be joined together in the joining zone 305.
[00146] Similarly, by means of the same molding procedure, it is possible to manufacture a plurality of first enlarged parts 318, distributed circumferentially in the strip, and also to partially cut them with the same 360° cut, so as to define the respective breakable bridges 503 along the intended parting line 5, which break when the cover is opened for the first time. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 126 / 144 21 / 26
[00147] The operations required for the manufacture of cap 1 are therefore reduced and simplified.
[00148] It should be noted that the molding procedure also allows the fabrication of the weakened portion 307 of the initial end 306a of the coupling element 306, which extends circumferentially at an angle at least in the joining zone 305, so as to define the deformable strip 308 capable of separating from the coupling element 306.
[00149] Before cover 1 is opened for the first time, when cover 1 is in the closed condition, the engagement element 306 is below the neck retaining ring 201.
[00150] When the user wishes to open the container for the first time, the user holds the locking element 302 and rotates the locking element 302 around the Z-axis in order to unscrew the locking element 302 from the neck 201.
[00151] During the transition from the closed condition to the open condition, initially, the closing element 302 and the retaining ring 301 are rotated together around the Z-axis and, simultaneously, move together along a line parallel to the Z-axis, away from the bottleneck 201.
[00152] This continues until the engagement element 306 of the retaining ring 301 comes into contact with the stop ring 202, and at this point the stop ring 202 prevents the retaining ring 301 from rising further along the Z-axis, acting as a stop for the movement of the retaining ring 301 away from the neck 201.
[00153] The breakable bridges 305 present along the intended separation line 5 are tensioned until they break.
[00154] The outer edge 307' separates from the inner edge 307 of the weakened portion 307, thus defining the deformable strip 308, which separates from the inner part of the engagement element 306, while the remaining part of the engagement element 306 remains retained below the retaining ring 302 to prevent the retaining ring 301 from sliding off the retaining ring 202.
[00155] Even the fragile elements of the weakened portion 307, if present, are stressed and break when the lid 1 is opened for the first time.
[00156] In this way, the closing element 302 separates from the retaining ring. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 127 / 144 22 / 26 301 along the intended parting line 5, but remains attached to the retaining ring 301 in the joining zone 305.
[00157] Considering now the fact that the breakable portion 307 has a larger angular size than the joining zone 305, as the deformable strip 308 begins to deform gradually, a central part 309 of the deformable strip 308, which corresponds angularly to the joining zone 305, remains fixed to the closing element 302 and rotates together with the closing element 302, so that it rests on the neck 201 of the container 2 when the user places the lid 1 in the open position, as shown in Figure 6.
[00158] On the sides of the central part 309, the first side part 310 and the second side part 311 of the deformable strip 308 connect the retaining ring 301, still locked below the retaining ring 202, to the closing element 302.
[00159] The first side part 310 and the second side part 311, which initially rise, continuing to follow the joining zone 305 and the closing element 302, moving away from the neck 201 of the container 2, are subjected to torsion when the user positions the closing element 302 in the open position and the central part 309 supported on the neck 201, as shown in Figure 6.
[00160] Optionally, in the case of cover Γ, in which cuts 6 are present in the central part 309', which define the flap 313, only the first hinge element 314 and the second hinge element 315 are subjected to torsion, while the flap 313 rests on the neck 201.
[00161] Even in the case of cover 1, in which the cuts 6 are present in the central part 309 that define the flap 313 and the projection 320 projects from the flap 313, only the first hinge element 314 and the second hinge element 315 are subjected to torsion, while the projection 320 rests on the neck 201.
[00162] Therefore, when the cover 1,1' or 1 is in the open condition, the closing element 302 is at a distance from the neck 201 and stably locked with respect to the neck 201.
[00163] This prevents the closing element 302 from performing any unintentional rotary movement, either towards the distribution opening 203 or around the neck. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 128 / 144 23 / 26 201 of container 2, due to an unintentional bump by the user.
[00164] After use, the user can return cover 1, 1' or 1 from the open position to the closed position by means of a sequence of operations that is the reverse of that described above.
[00165] The user must first move the closing element 302 away from the neck 201 to rotate the closing element 302 around the joining zone 305, moving the closing element 302 axially away from the neck 201, before screwing the closing element 302 back into the threaded structure 204 of the neck 201.
[00166] When the closing element 302 moves towards the distribution opening 203, the torsion of the first side part 310 and the second side part 311, or of the first hinge element 314 and the second hinge element 315, is eliminated, while the central part 309, or the flap 313, remains essentially undeformed and fixed to the closing element 302.
[00167] Continuing the closing of container 2, i.e., fully engaging the threaded structure 204 of the neck 201 until the closing element 302 is again positioned in the closed condition, the deformable strip 308 returns to alignment with the remaining part of the retaining ring 201 and the outer edge 307' of the weakened portion 307 returns to the inner edge 307.
[00168] The 1.1' or 1 cover of this invention is therefore simple and inexpensive to manufacture, although it is simple for the user.
[00169] The following applies to the plastic material used to manufacture the 1.1' or 1.
[00170] If PE is used, its density can vary from low to high density. In particular, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) can be used. The high-density polyethylene (HDPE) used to manufacture the cap described above may have the following properties: - density varying between 950 and 968 kg / m3; - Variable melt flow index from 0.3 to 20 g, under the following measurement conditions: 10 minutes, 190°C, 2.16 kg; - wide, narrow, unimodal or multimodal molecular weight distribution. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 129 / 144 24 / 26
[00171] If PP, polypropylene, is used, this material may be in the form of a homopolymer, heterophasic copolymer, or even a statistical copolymer.
[00172] The melt flow index of PP can vary from 2 to 20 g, under the following measurement conditions: 10 minutes, 230°C, 2.16 kg.
[00173] As to the type of beverage that may be contained in container 2, it should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid 1, 1' or 1 that is suitable for use with beverages from the following list: - Carbonated beverage with up to 11 g / l of CO2; - Carbonated beverage with up to 9 g / l of CO2; - Carbonated beverage with up to 7 g / l of CO2; - Non-carbonated beverage, for example, still water; - Pressurized beverage, for example, due to the presence of N2 (nitrogen) in the headspace of the container with overpressure of up to 1.5 bar, preferably up to 1 bar; - Beverage susceptible to oxidative degradation or susceptible to microbial degradation; - Beverages packaged cold (<35 °C); Beverages packaged hot <95 °C, preferably 70 < Tf (packaging temperature) <89 °C.

[00175] As for the side wall 3, as already indicated, it may be provided with serrated lines 312. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 130 / 144 25 / 26
[00176] With reference to these serrated lines 312, it should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid 1, 1' or 1, in which the serrated lines 312: - They can be angularly equidistant from each other, with a number between 30 and 144, preferably between 60 and 120; - They can be grouped, and each group can be separated from the adjacent group by a space without serrated lines; for example, there may be 24 groups present, in which each group has 3 serrated lines equally spaced from each other; - There may be serrated service lines present, with reduced length, used to guide the cover during a cutting operation; - They may be present on the side wall and, optionally, on the cross wall and / or on the retaining ring.
[00177] With regard to the coupling structure 7, which is configured to removablely couple the closing element 302 to the neck 201 of the container 2, it should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid 1, 1' or 1, in which the coupling structure 7 may have: - a threaded structure with a single helical thread with an angular extension between 500° and 930°, preferably between 650° and 760°, in which the thread optionally has a plurality of interruptions numbered between 4 and 30; - a threaded structure with multiple helical threads, for example, with two helical threads, or with three helical threads, in which each thread has an angular extension between 90° and 380°, preferably between 120° and 250°, in which each thread optionally has a plurality of interruptions numbered between 2 and 15, for example, the coupling structure may comprise two helical threads, or three helical threads; - at least one circular rib, continuous or interrupted, to lock the removable cap onto the neck 201 by means of pressure.
[00178] The interruptions in each thread, in the threaded structures described above, are preferential escape routes for gas that may be present inside the container 2. It should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid in which the interruptions can be made exclusively in the thread, or can be carved into the wall. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pages 131 / 144 26 / 26 side 3 of lid 1, 1' or 1, to ensure greater depth for the interruption and therefore increase the passage for any gas that may be present in container 2.
[00179] As to the manufacturing method, it should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid 1, 1' or 1, which can be produced as a cup-shaped shell obtained by injection molding, compression molding or injection-compression.
[00180] As for cutting operations, it should be noted that the present invention is particularly applicable to a lid 1,1' or 1, in which the intended parting line 5 and cuts 6, if present, can be made with cutting operations using respective blades, for example, circular or linear. Petition 870250091900, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 132 / 144
