Description
1 / 19 “HAIR CARE COMPOSITION, METHOD FOR TREATING HAIR AND / OR SCALP AND METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE "HAIR VOLUME" Field of Invention
[001] This invention relates to hair care compositions, more particularly to hair care compositions comprising a silicone and a compound comprising a silicone polymer, a quaternary ammonium group and a polyether in its molecule. The present invention also relates to a method for improving hair volume and providing the desired benefit to the hair, preferably hair smoothness, during topical application to the hair. Background of the Invention
[002] Hair care compositions are formulated for specific purposes, such as cleansing or conditioning benefits, or a combination of both. The preferred hair care composition will provide more benefits than simple cleansing and conditioning. Such compositions typically comprise one or more cleansing surfactants that generally aid in cleansing the hair and scalp, freeing them from unwanted dirt, particles, and greasy matter.
[003] Conditioning agents are often included in hair products, which can alter the appearance of the hair, helping to smooth it and adjust its texture. For example, silicones are an effective type of conditioning agent, which can provide great shine and help to smooth and straighten the hair. However, the inclusion of such a conditioning agent would compromise hair volume. It remains necessary to enhance hair volume while still providing the desired benefit to the hair.
[004] The inventors of the present invention surprisingly Petition 870250094736, dated 10 / 16 / 2025, pp. 35 / 61 2 / 19 found that including a combination of a small-sized silicone and a compound containing a silicone polymer, a quaternary ammonium group, and a polyether in its molecule, with a specific weight ratio in a hair care composition, can improve hair volume and provide desirable benefits to the hair, preferably smoothness of the strands. Brief Description of the Invention
[005] In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a hair care composition comprising: i) a cleaning surfactant comprising an anionic surfactant; ii) a silicone and the average particle size of the silicone is from 50 nm to 800 nm; and iii) a compound comprising a silicone polymer, a quaternary ammonium group and a polyether in its molecule; wherein the weight ratio of the amount of said silicone to the amount of said compound is from 3:1 to 20:1.
[006] In a second aspect, the present invention is directed to a method of treating hair or scalp comprising the step of applying a composition of the first aspect to the scalp or hair.
[007] In a third aspect, the present invention is directed to a method for improving hair volume and providing the desired benefit to the hair, preferably softness, which comprises the step of applying the hair care composition of the first aspect to the hair surfaces of an individual, followed by rinsing these surfaces with water.
[008] In a fourth aspect, the present invention is directed to a composition of the first aspect for use in improving the Petition 870250094736, dated 10 / 16 / 2025, pp. 36 / 61 3 / 19 hair volume and desired hair benefit, preferably hair softness.
[009] All other aspects of the present invention will become more readily apparent upon consideration of the detailed description and examples that follow. Detailed Description of the Invention: Hair Care Composition

This polymer is available in various molecular weights and degrees of cationic substitutions that depend on how much guar has been hydrolyzed and cationized.
[061] Generally for cationic polysaccharide polymers, the hydroxyl groups of the unmodified monomeric sugar ring units are the sites for cationic substitution. The degree of substitution (DS) is typically in the range of 0 to 3, due to the fact that the monomeric sugar unit of most polysaccharides has, on average, three hydroxyl groups available for substitution. In addition to DS, the cationic charge in polymers can also be quantified as cationic charge density. DS has been previously determined by different methods. For example, the cationic charge density of the polymer has, in some cases, been calculated based on a percentage nitrogen content determined by the Kjeldahl method, as described in the US Pharmacopeia under chemical tests for nitrogen determination and is expressed in milliequivalents (meq) per gram. The cationic charge density of the polymer in the present invention is, however, calculated from the degree of substitution, which is measured by 1H NMR in a solvent mixture of deuterium oxide (D2O) and deuterium chloride (DCI).
[062] In many cases, the DS obtained by 1H NMR measurement may not be suitable for comparison with that obtained by the Kjeldahl method, due to the fact that the two methods are influenced by different factors.
[063] In the wide spectrum of available guar molecular weights, the cationic guar for use in the present invention has a molecular weight that is considered an “average” molecular weight. In the wide range of charge densities, the above range for use in the present invention is considered an “average” range. Preferably, the copolymer also comprises acrylamide in addition to acrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride. The particularly preferred copolymer is an acrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride and acrylamide copolymer.
[065] The copolymer according to the present invention preferably has a charge density of 1.0 to 3.0 meq per gram (meq / g), more preferably 1.1 to 2.5 meq / g, even more preferably 1.2 to 2.5 meq / g, with a maximum preference of 1.3 to 2.5 meq / g. The copolymer preferably has a molecular weight of 100000 to 3000000 grams per mole (g / mol), more preferably 500000 to 2800000 g / mol, even more preferably 800000 to 2500000 g / mol, with a maximum preference of 1000000 to 2500000 g / mol. [079] Hair volume test: Hair strands were washed twice with a 14% SLES solution to remove any deposited residue and dried at 25°C for 24 hours. Photos of the hair strand were taken in the hair volume cabinet (5532-8166, ETS INC.). And the volume area in the photo will be automatically calculated by the Switch Volume Rig software as base volume (initial data a.).
[080] Next, the hair strands were washed with the above shampoo samples and dried for 24 hours. Then, the hair volume was measured in the same way and calculated as post-wash volume (data b.). The boosted volume was calculated by c=ba. Each sample was repeated 3 times.
[081] Dry smoothness test: Hair strands were washed twice with control shampoo to remove any residue. Petition 870250094736, dated 10 / 16 / 2025, pp. 52 / 61 19 / 19 deposited, followed by washing with the above shampoo samples. After being dried at 25°C for 24 hours, the average surface friction energy of the hair was measured using a texture analysis machine (TA-XT plus, Stable Micro Systems Ltd.). Low surface friction energy indicates that the hair is smooth. Each sample was repeated 3 times.
[082] The result of the hair volume test is summarized in Table 2. Table 2 ABC Samples 1 2 3 Increased Volume (mm 2) 5082.30 2853.05 4689.72 5726.37 6402.58 6020.81
[083] It can be concluded from the results that Samples 1-3, which comprise a small-sized silicone and a compound comprising a silicone polymer, a quaternary ammonium group and a polyether in its molecule with a specific weight ratio within the scope of the present invention, can increase hair volume compared to Sample AC (outside the scope of the present invention).
[084] The result of the dry softness test is summarized in Table 3. Table 3 Samples ABC 1 2 3 Average frictional energy (g.mm) 22875.51 41786.33 26062.77 23658.00 23333.25 21875.98
[085] The above results indicate that Samples 1-3, which comprise a small-sized silicone and a compound comprising a silicone polymer, a quaternary ammonium group and a polyether in its molecule, with a specific weight ratio within the scope of the present invention, can also provide the desired benefit for the hair, which is the smoothness of the strands (average frictional energy not exceeding 250000 g.mm).
