[0001] This description pertains to the field of protective clothing, more specifically to face masks. FUNDAMENTALS OF THE MODEL

[0002] The outbreak of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11, 2020. Since then, various efforts have been made to control this disease, including recommendations for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by government authorities.

[0003] Face shields are devices that have a transparent visor, designed to cover the entire front of the user's face. They are used to prevent exposure, primarily of the eyes, to splashes, droplets, and aerosols, and are recommended in various healthcare situations (Brazil, 2020, TECHNICAL NOTE GVIMS / GGTES / ANVISA No. 04 / 2020), and should be used in combination with masks (e.g., N95 / PFF2). [0004] One problem related to the construction technique of face shields is the balance between ergonomics, ease of sterilization, cost reduction and simplicity of manufacture.

[0005] Regarding ergonomics, the visor should be held far enough away from the face during use, while a visor support element should be comfortably adjustable to the body when wearing the protector.

[0006] A reduced number of individual parts facilitates both the manufacture and assembly of the face shield. A solution that addresses the sterilization problem is provided by parts free of curves and complex geometries, for example, flexible parts that assume a flat shape when not in use and assume another suitable geometry when in use.

[0007] Documents USD732242, US20120047614, US5983390, Petition 870200097806, dated 04 / 08 / 2020, page 9 / 20 2 / 6 US5440760 and US5113528 describe face shields that essentially comprise three elements: a visor; a strap connected to the visor, configured to fasten around a user's head; and a spacer element, positioned between the visor and the user's forehead, which prevents the visor from coming into contact with the face during use.

[0008] Document US4853974 describes a face shield comprising three elements: a flexible visor; a flexible fastening strap, configured to fasten around a user's head; and hook-and-loop fastenings (e.g., Velcro®), provided on the visor and the fastening strap, wherein the strap fasteners are configured to connect with the visor fasteners. The visor is made of flexible material, having a flat shape when not tensioned and assuming a semi-circular shape, viewed from above, when the visor is tensioned by the connection with the fastening strap. The constitutive characteristics of the visor material and the tensioning provided by the strap are sufficient to create an adequate clearance between the visor and the user's face during the use of the face shield.

[0009] Document US4867178 describes a type of face shield comprising two elements: a trapezoidal visor when viewed from above; and a fastening strap, configured to fasten around the user's head, having two free ends for securing it to the visor. The characteristics of this trapezoidal visor and the fastening strap with free ends allow for adequate clearance between the visor and the user's face during the use of the face shield.

[0010] Prior art models do not disclose a face shield with only two flexible elements, namely a flexible visor and a flexible fastening strap. Therefore, the problem that is not solved by prior techniques lies in combining simplicity of manufacture with ease of disassembly and sterilization of the equipment parts. [0011] One of the objectives of this description is to provide a face shield comprising a reduced number of individual parts. Another objective of this description is to provide a face shield consisting only of flexible, easily sanitized elements, which assume a flat shape when disassembled to facilitate sterilization, transport and storage of the equipment parts.

[0012] The objectives of this description are achieved by a face shield comprising:

[0013] a flexible fastening strap, configured to fasten around a user's head, provided with adjustable fasteners at both ends, which allow an adjustable connection between the ends of the strap; and,

[0014] a flexible visor, provided with two pairs of through holes arranged on opposite edges of an upper end of the visor, wherein the visor assumes an approximately semi-circular shape, viewed from above, when tensioned by inserting the fixing tape into its two pairs of through holes followed by connecting the ends of the flexible fixing tape.

[0010] Figure 1 illustrates the assembly of the two individual elements that constitute the main modality of the face shield (10) described, in its three-dimensional form.

[0011] A flexible fastening strap (30) is provided, configured to fasten around a user's head. The strap has adjustable fasteners (31) at both ends, allowing a connection between these ends in a way that is adjustable in length along the strap. When the ends of the strap are connected, the strap assumes an approximately circular shape, viewed from above. The adjustable connection may, for example, have an adjustable graduation every 10 mm, so as to increase / decrease the circumference of the closed strap, viewed from above.

Desirable characteristics of this material include transparency, mechanical resistance, non-toxicity, flexibility, fire retardancy and anti-reflective and anti-fog surface treatments. Additionally, they must be easy to clean, thus excluding the use of foams and elastics. An example of a material with these characteristics is Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG), which is suitable for making the tape (30) and the visor of the present face shield.

In this figure it is possible to observe the smooth curved geometry of the visor (20), which is free of sharp edges, for user safety. [0018] In a variant configuration of the face shield (10) described, represented in the figures, the side edges (22,22') of the visor (20) are slightly inclined in relation to the vertical axis, while the lower end (23) has a slight protrusion in the center and slight recesses near the edges (22,22'), so as to extend the internal protection area of ​​the user's frontal region, when in the assembled configuration, without compromising the user's mobility due to interference of the visor with the user's shoulders.

Claims

1 / 2 CLAIMS 1. Face shield, characterized by comprising: a flexible fastening strap (30), configured to fasten around the head of a user, provided with adjustable fasteners (31) at both ends, which allow an adjustable connection between the ends of the flexible fastening strap (30); and, a flexible visor (20), provided with two pairs of through holes (21) arranged on opposite edges (22,22') of an upper end (24) of the visor (20), wherein the visor (20) has an approximately semi-circular shape, viewed from above, being tensioned by the insertion of the flexible fastening strap (30) into its two pairs of through holes (21) followed by the connection between the ends of the flexible fastening strap (30).

2. Face shield, according to claim 1, characterized in that the side edges (22,22') of the visor (20) are slightly inclined relative to the vertical axis, and the lower end (23) has a smooth protrusion in the center and smooth recesses near the edges (22,22').

3. Face shield, according to claim 1, characterized in that the side edges (22,22') are parallel with respect to the vertical axis, and the lower end (23) has a smooth protrusion in the center and smooth recesses near the edges (22,22').

4. Face shield, according to claim 1, characterized in that the lower end (23) is parallel to the horizontal axis, and the side edges (22,22') of the visor (20) are slightly inclined relative to the vertical axis.

5. Face shield, according to claim 1, characterized in that the lower end (23) is shaped like an arc of a circle, and the side edges (22,22') of the visor (20) are slightly inclined relative to the vertical axis.
