1 / 2 Descriptive Report of the Utility Model Patent for the "BRAKING SYSTEM FOR DRIVEN AXLES".
[001] Refers to the Utility Model patent for the “Brake system for driven shafts”, which operates in clothes centrifuges, with the purpose of interrupting the rotational movement of the clothes basket after it is opened or after the end of the centrifugation cycle.
[002] In the state of the art, clothes centrifuges drive their rotary motion through an electric motor. Every clothes centrifuge must have a braking system whose function is to stop the clothes basket before the user has access to it. The faster the braking, the safer the operation. If the centrifuge lid is opened while the system is still activated, the motor drive is immediately interrupted, but the shaft movement must be braked, stopping its rotation. In current systems, the motor shaft has a brake cylinder at its end, which is pressed by a brake pad located around the cylinder, this being activated by a brake cable connected to the dryer lid or electrically.
[003] This Utility Model aims to present a brake system with rotation integral to the shaft (10) of the motor (11), that is, the brake assembly follows the rotational movement of the shaft (10). The brake assembly consists of a support (4) that presses the pads (3) against the brake disc (2) by means of a spring (6) disposed on a sliding washer (12), which is located on the bearing (13). The assembly is connected by the brake disc (2) to the shaft (10) by means of a fastening element (5), making it integral to the shaft (10). To start braking, the cable (8) is released, releasing the spring (9) which pushes the actuator (1) to the support lock (14), interrupting its movement and thus creating friction between the pads (3) and the brake disc (2), performing the braking.

[008] As indicated in figures 1 to 4, in the present Utility Model, the motor (11) has a bearing (13), where the sliding washer (12) is supported, on which the spring (6) is located, responsible for pushing the support (4) and the pads (3) against the brake disc (2), which in turn is fixed to the shaft (10) by means of the fastening element (5). When the shaft (10) is activated and rotated, the entire brake assembly is rotated along with it.
[009] The brake assembly is actuated by the actuator (1), which is fixed to the motor support (7) and remains retracted while the centrifuge is working. The actuator (1) can be activated mechanically by opening the cover or electrically by an electric contact switch or electromagnetic solenoid. When the centrifuge cover is opened or the cycle is completed, the cable (8) is released and the spring (9) pushes the actuator (1), which, as it rotates on the shaft, has its end positioned close to the support (4), fitting into the lock (14) existing in it. When the movement of the support (4) is locked, the pads (3) existing in it create friction against the brake disc (2), which, connected to the still-moving shaft (10), performs the braking action, stopping the entire system.
[010] The system may have the locking mechanism (14) configured to work on machines with clockwise and counterclockwise rotation or in both directions. The support (4) may have more than one lock (14) when there is a need for faster actuation, in addition to minimizing possible mechanical vibrations due to component imbalance.
