1 / 6 Savonius Generation System with Directed Flow FIELD OF APPLICATION
[001] This Utility Model patent SAVONIUS GENERATION SYSTEM WITH DIRECTED FLOW belongs to the field of articles for energy conversion and deals with a vertical axis turbine, which converts the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy by means of the rotational movement of blades and, through a generator, obtains electrical energy.
[002] More specifically, it is a Savonius-type vertical axis wind turbine, whose novelty lies in the introduction of a device to direct the wind flow only on the concave faces of its blades.
[003] The Savonius directed flow generation system in presentation can be installed in various locations, such as rooftops, beaches, fields, residences, in industrial complexes for electricity generation, it can be used for small tasks or services on farms, it can constitute wind farms for power generation, etc.
[004] The patent application in question therefore presents equipment that is specially designed and developed to achieve great practicality and that brings great advantages, both in its use and in its manufacture.
[005] It is also the objective of this application to present a Savonius flow-directed generator system model with low costs for its industrial feasibility, but combined with the requirements of robustness, safety and practical utility, thus offering the consumer public an additional option in the market of similar products, which, unlike usual models, offers numerous possibilities and benefits to its users, becoming a model of great acceptance in the consumer market.
[006] As is known to those skilled in the art, wind energy is the energy produced from the kinetic energy of the wind (masses of air in motion) and the electromagnetic heating of the sun (solar energy), which together move the blades of wind turbines.
[007] The aforementioned kinetic energy of the wind is normally converted into mechanical energy by windmills and wind turbines, or into electrical energy by wind turbines (or wind generators). Petition 870250017068, dated 28 / 02 / 2025, page 7 / 21 2 / 6
[008] These wind turbines are machines that extract the kinetic energy of the wind through aerodynamic effects and transform this energy into mechanical energy. Normally these turbines are used for the generation of electrical energy through coupling with generators, but they can also be used in other mechanical systems. STATE OF THE ART
[009] In particular, generators powered by wind force are called wind turbines, and this is the type referred to in this report; however, its construction differs from that of conventional wind turbines.
[0010] Vertical axis wind turbines in particular use rotors with straight or curved blades, with the axis of rotation perpendicular to the wind direction.
[0011] One of their characteristics is that they can catch the wind from any direction.
[0012] It is known to those skilled in the art that traditionally, there are models of vertical axis turbines of various shapes and concepts.
[0013] In this respect and in order to specify the state of the art, some patent documents can be cited that deal with equipment with the same conceptual purposes, but without reaching the inventive merit and the differences now revealed, as follows below.
[0014] Patent document PI06101865 A2, entitled VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE, AND VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE ROTOR, discloses a vertical axis wind turbine, which may include an upper ring, an intermediate ring and a lower ring, in which a plurality of vertical airfoils are placed between the rings. For example, three vertical airfoils may be connected between the upper ring and the intermediate ring. In addition, three other vertical airfoils may be connected between the lower ring and the intermediate ring. When the wind contacts the vertically arranged airfoils, the rings begin to rotate. By connecting the rings to a central pole that rotates an alternator, electricity can be generated from the wind.
[0015] Patent document BR 102016028163-6 A2, entitled VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE, discloses a vertical axis wind turbine comprising a rotor arranged vertically in relation to the ground and associated with a multiplicity of primary blades, each primary blade having at least one concave region, the rotor being associated with a multiplicity of secondary blades, each secondary blade Petition 870250017068, dated 28 / 02 / 2025, page 8 / 21 3 / 6 having at least one concave region, the primary and secondary blades being arranged with their concave regions substantially opposed to each other, the primary and secondary blades being configured to simultaneously rotate the rotor by means of wind action on at least a portion of their respective surfaces, so that said turbine compensates for the back-drag suffered by the primary blades and has a stable and continuous operation.
[0016] Patent document BR 102017005846-8 A2, entitled VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE, discloses a wind turbine comprising a rotor arranged vertically in relation to the ground and having a tension-structured structural form, the rotor being associated with a plurality of primary and secondary blades, the rotor being formed by a plurality of inner rings and a plurality of outer rings arranged along a height of the rotor, the primary blades being associated and arranged in an inner portion of the inner rings and the secondary blades being associated and arranged in an outer portion of the outer rings, in order to promote an increase in efficiency in energy generation, due to better aerodynamic performance and reduced weight of the rotor.
[0017] Patent document PI 0812218-0 A2, entitled WIND TURBINE WITH VERTICAL SHAFT, discloses a wind turbine that has a vertical turbine shaft, which is provided with a joint so that the turbine shaft consists of an upper shaft part and a lower shaft part. The invention also relates to a wind power unit, an electric power supply line, and the use of the wind turbine for generating electric power. Weak points of the state of the art.
[0018] The main disadvantage of vertical axis turbine models lies in their low efficiency compared to horizontal axis wind turbines.
[0019] The nature of the flow in the blades is much more complex than in horizontal axis wind turbines, making it difficult to obtain an adequate model of the aerodynamic forces.
[0020] In addition, some models at certain rotor angles cannot start on their own because their static torque coefficient is negative, so they need an auxiliary starting source. PROPOSED SOLUTION Petition 870250017068, dated 28 / 02 / 2025, page 9 / 21 4 / 6
[0021] It was with these drawbacks in mind that, after numerous research and studies, the inventor, a person connected to the field, created and developed the object of this patent, conceiving a Savonius generator system with directed flow in which not only the mechanical and functional qualities were considered in the design of its manufacture, but also the shape, arrangement and location of its parts and components which, correctly positioned, brought an increase in efficiency without incurring any burden.
[0022] Thus, the present patent was designed with the aim of obtaining equipment with the fewest possible number of parts, conveniently configured and arranged to allow the Savonius directed flow generation system to perform its functions with unparalleled efficiency and versatility, without the aforementioned drawbacks.
[0023] This patent application presents a practical and innovative model of a Savonius flow-directed generator system with all the aesthetic and functional qualities, designed and developed according to the most modern techniques, thus enabling its most varied use, from individual use in residences to its use in electric power generation parks.
[0024] Its innovative design allows for an excellent level of functionality, offering a Savonius-style directed-flow generation system that has great durability, having been created primarily to solve the drawbacks presented by conventional vertical wind turbines.
[0025] The configuration of the equipment, object of the present patent, in its new constructive form, comprises a vertical turbine with four curved blades offset by ninety degrees, enclosed in a semi-cylindrical geometry fairing, which covers half of the turbine, so that only the concave faces of the blades receive the wind. In addition, a deflector has been incorporated into its structure to keep the assembly, formed by the rotor and fairing, always aligned in the direction of the wind.
[0026] It is therefore understandable that the equipment in question is extremely simple in its construction, and therefore easy to manufacture, yet it achieves excellent practical and functional results, offering an innovative design compared to known models.
[0027] Conceived with an innovative design, it results in a harmonious whole, with a quite peculiar and, above all, characteristic aspect, and, in addition to the constructive aspect, the Petition 870250017068, dated 28 / 02 / 2025, page 10 / 21 The 5 / 6 model stands out for its versatility and ease of use.
