Description

1 / 5 LAYOUT IN RETINOGRAPH Technical sector

[001] The present utility model belongs to the technical sector of ophthalmoscopy and refers more specifically to a new arrangement in a retinograph that has a compartment for an ophthalmic condensation lens, support for optical filters and support for a cell phone, enabling the acquisition and transfer of video and image data of the fundus of the eye and ocular surface, in addition to being portable, easy to handle and low manufacturing cost, since it can be manufactured by means of 3D printing. State of the art

[002] Devices for observing the fundus and ocular surface are used to diagnose and monitor numerous eye diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, keratoconus, or glaucoma, among others. However, the equipment used in clinics and hospitals for observing the fundus is generally robust, complex, expensive, and requires specialized maintenance, making it difficult to serve communities, especially in clinical settings with infrastructure limitations.

[003] In this context, portable devices for acquiring images of the fundus of the eye are gaining increasing importance, due to the development of digital cameras integrated into mobile devices, such as cell phones, and also to their ease of transport and operation in the field, in addition to their lower cost. These factors make it possible to serve communities that were previously underserved or poorly served, assisting in the screening and monitoring of eye diseases and thus improving the ocular health conditions of the population.

[004] The main disadvantages observed in known portable ophthalmological devices include: high acquisition and maintenance costs, a structure that is not very adaptable to different models of cell phones or ophthalmic lenses already available on the market, and they do not offer support for specialized optical filters. In addition, many of these devices require trained operators, which makes their application unfeasible in primary health care settings or in regions Petition 870250066029, dated 07 / 30 / 2025, page 7 / 22 2 / 5 remote with limited access to ophthalmologists and a restricted budget.

[005] Document EM0030304930001 D presents an industrial design for an eye testing device with a compact structure, lens, cell phone holder, and a rod for connecting the cell phone to the lens. The drawback of this device is that it does not offer support for specialized optical filters, limiting its applicability in more comprehensive ophthalmological screenings, nor does it have a butterfly screw for attaching the lens to the device's rod.

[006] Document CN220069680 U describes an optical device comprising a cell phone-based fundus camera. This model has the disadvantage of not offering support for specialized optical filters, limiting its applicability in more comprehensive ophthalmological screenings.

[007] The ODocs Fundus project document available at the link Celular Ophthalmoscope ODocs Fundus: 3 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables presents an ophthalmic adapter manufactured using 3D printing with support for ophthalmic condensation lenses, a cell phone, and a connecting rod for the cell phone to the lens. The project does not include specialized optical filters, nor fastening mechanisms that allow the lens and cell phone to be easily assembled and disassembled without the use of tools. Furthermore, its structure is simpler and less rigid, which may compromise the alignment between the camera and the lens, negatively impacting the user's ability to obtain quality images.

[008] Thus, although these solutions represent advances in miniaturization and portability, they still face limitations regarding adaptability, cost, and diagnostic functionalities. Novelty and objective of the proposed model.

[009] The new arrangement in retinograph, proposed by the present utility model, effectively resolves the limitations of the prior art previously mentioned.

[010] The retinograph consists of a structure formed by two longitudinally arranged rods, equipped with a lens compartment, a cell phone holder, and a filter holder. The filter holder is located at one end of the Petition 870250066029, dated 07 / 30 / 2025, page 8 / 22 The 3 / 5 structure features a filter drawer compartment where a filter support assembly slides, and the opposite end has a lens compartment with a support for attaching the lens using a butterfly screw. The lens has a recess on its periphery to accommodate the screw end. The cell phone holder is formed by an L-shaped piece with a channel for the upper rod and a support for the cell phone that slides on the upper rod of the structure and is fixed by means of a butterfly screw. Functional improvement of the proposed model

[011] The new arrangement in the utility model's retinograph results in the following functional improvements: The structure is modular and can be manufactured using 3D printing, resulting in low production costs. - Compatibility with the user's cell phone and ophthalmic lenses already available in healthcare settings significantly reduces the implementation costs of the retinograph; - Optical filters, cellular lenses, and ophthalmic condensation lenses from different brands can be fitted to the model; The retinograph is portable and lightweight, making it easy to transport and handle. - By using cell phones to acquire images, there is the possibility of adding programs and applications for analysis using Artificial Intelligence, documentation, and monitoring of patients' eye conditions; - Because it uses a cell phone for image acquisition and data transfer, the retinograph can be employed as a tool in telemedicine, being used by various health professionals, not restricted to ophthalmologists, thus enabling remote analysis and applicability in regions with infrastructure limitations, allowing for patient monitoring and referral for early treatment; - The presence of a double rod provides rigidity to the structure in order to hold the lens, ensuring axial alignment of all components, essential for obtaining quality images by the user; Petition 870250066029, dated 07 / 30 / 2025, page 9 / 22 4 / 5 - It employs optical filters that expand diagnostic possibilities, allowing for the evaluation of both the cornea (ocular surface) when a vital dye called fluorescein is applied, and the blood vessels and nerve fiber layer of the retina; - The use of a butterfly screw for lens attachment facilitates lens assembly and disassembly, eliminating the need for tools; - The cell phone holder is adjustable, featuring a channel that facilitates fitting the holder onto the upper rod of the retinograph structure, allowing the holder to slide and adjust to the structure, adapting to various cell phone widths; - The phone holder has supports that ensure the device is held upright, resulting in high-quality images; The retinograph's structure features a hole that allows it to be supported on a conventional support device (tripod). List of attached drawings

[012] In order for the present model to be fully understood and put into practice by any technician in this technological sector, it is described in a clear, precise and sufficient manner, based on the attached drawings, listed below, which illustrate ways of carrying out the new arrangement in a retinograph.
