AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing reactors for producing synthesis gas face issues such as thermomechanical stress, maintenance difficulties, and unsafety problems, particularly under high-pressure conditions, due to thermal and mechanical stress, as well as inefficiencies in process intensification and maintenance, and unsuitable for mobile applications.

Method used

A reactor design with a mixer and countercurrent construction, featuring separate inlets for reactants, a mixer with disks and a lid for tangential flow, and a monolithic catalyst structure, allowing for easy maintenance and high-pressure operation, while preventing thermomechanical stress and exothermic reactions.

Benefits of technology

The reactor enables efficient, safe, and compact synthesis gas production under high pressure, facilitating maintenance and integration into mobile systems, with improved process intensification and temperature control.

Abstract

A reactor for the production of synthesis gas having a mixer, mixing space, reactor space, inlets for at least two fluid reactants and outlet for at least one fluid product, and a reactor shell encompassing these, comprising an outer fluid-tight inlet for at least one reactant between the reactor shell and mixer in the interior of the reactor, within which there is disposed at least one fluid-tight inlet for a further reactant. The reactor enables easy handling and assembly; maintenance and exchange of individual components in a rapid and simple manner. The reactor also allows the production of fuels or chemicals under high pressure all the while increasing effectiveness and / or yield of the production gas synthesis.
