AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing electronic tobacco hybrid devices experience inconsistent nicotine delivery per puff and loss of nicotine due to the high volatility of pH-treated tobacco, leading to reduced organoleptic properties.

Method used

A device and method that volatilizes a high-pH material to generate a vapour or aerosol, which pH-treats an aerosolisable material containing nicotine, controlling the rate of nicotine liberation by managing the flow rate of the vapour/aerosol, thereby ensuring consistent nicotine delivery and reducing ammonia release.

Benefits of technology

The solution provides sustained and consistent nicotine delivery per puff while improving the organoleptic properties by controlling the pH treatment rate, minimizing nicotine loss, and reducing ammonia smell.

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a device (1) for generating an inhalable medium the device comprising: a container (9) retaining a first volatilisable material (10), the material having a pH of greater than 7; a heater (11) for volatilising the first volatilisable material held in the container; a chamber (13) containing aerosolisable material (14) comprising nicotine; and an outlet (3); the arrangement being such that in use, the first volatilisable material is volatilised by the heater to form a vapour and / or an aerosol, which passes through the chamber containing aerosolisable material and entrains one or more constituents of the aerosolisable material, thereby forming an inhalable medium which passes through the outlet.
