Abstract

The invention relates to a food slicer that improves cutting performance by mechanically actuating a wire along a slicing axis, which is typically vertical or functionally equivalent. When the user applies downward pressure to the upper housing, a mechanical assembly such as gears, cranks, pulleys, cams, hydraulic systems, linkages, or their functional equivalents converts this force into controlled motion of a cutting wire. The wire moves in a direction substantially aligned with the slicing axis, either in a reciprocating or unidirectional manner. This enables efficient slicing of soft foods with minimal deformation and effort.

Description

Multi-Directional Wire Slicer Specification Field of the Invention This invention relates to kitchen tools, particularly food slicers that use mechanically actuated wire motion to enhance cutting efficiency. Background of the Invention Conventional wire-based food slicers rely entirely on manual downward force applied by the user. This often results in squashing or deformation, particularly with soft or delicate food items. There is a need for a slicing device that incorporates a directional motion of the cutting wire, aligned with the slicing force, to reduce user effort and improve cutting quality. Summary of the Invention The invention addresses the above problem by introducing a mechanical actuation system that converts at least part of the user's downward force into directional motion of a cutting wire. The wire is configured to move substantially in parallel with the slicing axis, which may be vertical or functionally equivalent. This motion may be reciprocating or unidirectional, depending on the internal configuration. The mechanical conversion may be achieved using gears, cranks, cams, pulleys, hydraulic systems, linkages, or functionally similar components. In certain embodiments, an electric motor replaces the users hand by applying downward pressure on the upper housing, thereby triggering the same mechanical conversion process to move the cutting wire. The slicing axis may vary depending on device orientation, as long as the wire motion directionally supports effective downward slicing. Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment The slicing device includes:- A lower housing (1) that supports the food item. - An upper housing (2), pressed downward by the user or by a motor, and including a handle (4). - A cutting wire (3) located between the housings. - A mechanical actuation unit (5) that converts vertical force into directional wire motion. - A toothed rack (8) that engages a gear (7), rotating a crankshaft (6) to create reciprocating motion. - The gear-driven crankshaft assembly actuates the cutting wire (3) mounted horizontally. All motion of the cutting wire is constrained to remain substantially aligned with the slicing axis. Any lateral or auxiliary movement, if present, is minimal and serves only to support smooth downward slicing. In some embodiments, an electric motor may be provided to simulate manual pressing by moving the upper housing downward. The motor may be integrated with the outer frame and powered by battery or plug-in sources. The motor-driven pressing action activates the same internal slicing mechanism.

Claims

Multi-Directional Wire Slicer Claims Claim 1 A food slicing device comprising: - an upper housing configured to receive a downward force from a user or electric motor; - a lower housing for supporting a food item; - a cutting wire disposed between the upper and lower housings; - a mechanical actuation assembly configured to convert at least a portion of the downward force into mechanical motion of the cutting wire; wherein said cutting wire is configured to move in a direction that is substantially aligned with the slicing axis, including vertical motion or a combination of vertical and minor lateral movement that aids slicing; wherein said motion is selected from reciprocating or unidirectional motion; and wherein said actuation assembly comprises at least one mechanical conversion component selected from the group consisting of gears, cranks, cams, pulleys, hydraulic components, linkages, or their functional equivalents. Claim 2 The device of claim 1, wherein the directional movement of the wire reduces the required user force compared to static wire-based slicers. Claim 3 The device of claim 1, wherein the actuation assembly includes a vertically sliding toothed rack engaging with a gear to generate rotational motion. Claim 4 The device of claim 3, wherein the gear drives a crankshaft connected to the cutting wire to produce reciprocating motion. Claim 5The device of claim 1, wherein the actuation unit includes a gear and pulley system that maintains motion parallel to the slicing axis. Claim 6 The device of claim 1, wherein the cutting wire is mounted on a movable frame or arm that directly receives motion from the actuation unit. Claim 7 The device of claim 1, further comprising a stabilization element on the lower housing to prevent displacement of the food item during slicing. Claim 8 The device of claim 1, further comprising an electric motor configured to apply downward pressure on the upper housing, simulating manual actuation.
