AI Technical Summary
Existing methods fail to effectively remove odorants from fluids, particularly sulfur-based odorants like tetrahydrothiophene and tert-butylmercaptan, which can poison catalysts in hydrogen fuel cells and lead to false leak warnings in ultra-pure fluid applications, necessitating improved methods for odorant removal and storage.
Methods and systems are developed to process odorized fluids by removing odorants from storage tanks, forming odorant-free streams for consumption, recycling odorants, and ensuring odorant concentrations below detection thresholds, using systems with reservoirs, odorant removing units, and apparatuses in closed loop configurations.
The systems achieve odorant-free fluid streams suitable for consumption, minimize environmental release, and prevent false leak warnings by maintaining low odorant concentrations, enhancing catalyst efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Abstract
Description
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR STORING ODORIZED FLUIDSREFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application is being filed on April 8, 2025, as a PCT International Patent Application and claims the benefit of and priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 631,5 1, filed on April 9, 2024, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] This disclosure relates to methods and systems for storing odorized fluids, including odorized fuel fluids.BACKGROUND
[0003] Odorants have been added to fluids for decades. Odorants can allow for the detection of a leak without external equipment. Odorants can also allow for leak detection in locations where it can be difficult or impossible to place detectors, such as outdoor locations. Since odorants that are easily detectable by the human olfactory system can be used, small fluid leaks can be easily detected.
[0004] In at least some applications, it can be necessary or desirable to remove an odorant from a fluid to avoid or minimize release of the odorant in the environment, and / or avoid undesirably impacting a device in which the fluid is used. This is particularly a concern for hydrogen powered fuel cells. Hydrogen fuel cells can use precious metal catalysts to electrochemically oxidize hydrogen at the anode of the cell. If the active sites of the metal catalyst are occupied by a molecule other than hydrogen, such as an odorant, the activity of the catalyst (and, therefore, the efficiency and performance of the fuel cell) can decrease, sometimes dramatically. This can be referred to as poisoning or deactivation of the catalyst. This problem can be particularly prevalent for sulfur-based odorants, such as tetrahydrothiophene (THT) and tert-butylmercaptan (TBM) (International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 41, 2016, 12231-12241 and Journal of Power Sources, 152, 2005, 226-232). Furthermore, for applications in which fluids are not combusted, an unfiltered exhaust can include the odorant. If the odorant is released into the environment, the result could be a false leak warning. Therefore, applications requiringultra-pure fluids can require the removal of the odorant from the fluid.
[0005] There remains a need for improved methods and systems of removing odorants from fluids, such as fuel gases, exhaust gases, etc. There also remains a need for improved methods and systems for storing (e.g., temporarily storing) and / or recycling odorants removed from a fluid, such as a fuel gas, exhaust gas, etc. There also remains a need for methods and systems that avoid, reduce, or minimize the release of odorants or components thereof.SUMMARY
[0006] This summary is provided to introduce various concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify required or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is the summary intended to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter.
[0007] In one aspect, methods of processing compositions, such as odorized fluids, are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include providing an odorized fluid, wherein the odorized fluid is disposed in a storage tank, and wherein the odorized fluid includes an odorant dispersed in a fluid; and removing at least a portion of the odorized fluid from the storage tank to form a stream including the odorized fluid. In some embodiments, the methods also include removing at least a portion of the odorant from the stream including the odorized fluid to form a stream including the fluid and a stream comprising the odorant and forwarding the stream including the fluid to an apparatus that consumes the fluid. In some embodiments, the methods also include forwarding the stream including the odorized fluid to an apparatus that consumes the fluid, thereby producing an exhaust gas that can include the odorant, and optionally removing at least a portion of the odorant from the exhaust gas to form a stream including an odorant-free exhaust gas and a stream including the odorant. The streams including the odorant can be recycled in one or more of the ways described herein. The odorant-free exhaust gas can have an odorant concentration that is less than an odor detection threshold of the odorant, such as an odor detection threshold for humans or a sensor, as described herein. Alternatively, after exiting the exhaust, the odorant can be further diluted below the odor detection threshold of the odorant in the nearby atmosphere to prevent both excess accumulation and detection of the odorant in the environment.
[0008] In some embodiments, the methods include providing a stream including anodorized fluid, wherein the odorized fluid includes a fluid dispersed in an odorant, and removing at least a portion of the odorant from the stream including the odorized fluid to form a first stream including the fluid and a second stream including the odorant. The odorant can be present in the first stream including the fluid at a concentration of less than 1 mg / m3.
[0009] In another aspect, systems for storing compositions are provided. In some embodiments, the systems include a reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid, a reservoir configured for storing an odorant, an odorant removing unit, and an apparatus that consumes a fluid. The reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid, the reservoir configured for storing an odorant, the odorant removing unit, and the apparatus that consumes the fluid can be in fluid communication with each other.

[0015] To define more clearly the terms used herein, the following definitions are provided. Unless otherwise indicated, the following definitions are applicable to this disclosure. If a term is used in this disclosure but is not specifically defined herein, the definition from the IUPAC Compendium of Chemical Terminology, 2ndEd (1997) can be applied, as long as that definition does not conflict with any other disclosure or definition applied herein, or renderindefinite or non-enabled any claim to which that definition is applied. To the extent that any definition or usage provided by any document incorporated herein by reference conflicts with the definition or usage provided herein, the definition or usage provided herein controls.
[0016] As the various features of the subject matter of this disclosure are described, within particular aspect, a combination or combinations of the different features may be envisioned. For every aspect of every feature disclosed herein, all combinations that do not detrimentally affect the designs, compositions, systems, processes, or methods described herein are contemplated with or without the express description of that particular combination. Therefore, unless explicitly stated to the contrary, any aspect of feature disclosed here may be combined to describe and disclose the inventive designs, compositions, systems, processes, or methods consistent with the entire disclosure.
[0017] While compositions and methods are described in terms of “comprising” various components or steps, the compositions and methods can also “consist essentially of’ or “consist of’ the various components or steps, unless stated otherwise.
[0018] The terms “including,” “with,” and “having,” as used herein, are defined as comprising (i.e., open language), unless specified otherwise.
[0019] The terms “a,” “an,” and “the” are intended to include plural alternatives, e.g., at least one. When Applicants disclose or claim a range of any type, Applicants’ intent is to disclose or claim individually each possible number that such a range could reasonably encompass, including end points of the range as well as any sub-ranges and combinations of sub-ranges encompassed therein, unless otherwise specified. For example, by disclosing a concentration range of about 5 mg / m3n to about 20 mg / m3n, Applicant’s intent is to recite individually 5 mg / m3n, 6 mg / m3n, 7 mg / m3n, 8 mg / m3n, 9 mg / m3n, 10 mg / m3n, 11 mg / m3n, 12 mg / m3n, 13 mg / m3n, 14 mg / m3n, 15 mg / m3n, 16 mg / m3n, 17 mg / m3n, 18 mg / m3n, 19 mg / m3n, and 20 mg / m3n, including any sub-ranges and combinations of sub-ranges encompassed therein, and these methods of describing such ranges are interchangeable. Moreover, all numerical end points of ranges disclosed herein are approximate, unless excluded by proviso. As a representative example, if Applicants state that one or moresteps in the processes disclosed herein can be conducted at a temperature in a range from 10 °C to 75 °C, this range should be interpreted as encompassing temperatures in a range from “about” 10 °C to “about” 75 °C unless otherwise stated.
[0021] Values or ranges may be expressed herein as “about,” from “about” one particular value, and / or to “about” another particular value. When such values or ranges are expressed, other embodiments disclosed include the specific value recited, from the one particular value, and / or to the other particular value. Similarly, when values are expressed as approximations, by use of the antecedent “about,” it will be understood that the particular value forms another embodiment. It will be further understood that there are a number of values disclosed therein, and that each value is also herein disclosed as “about” that particular value in addition to the value itself. In another aspect, each use of the term “about” can, independently, mean ±20% of the stated value, ±15% of the stated value, ±10% of the stated value, ±5% of the stated value, or ±3% of the stated value.
[0022] Applicants reserve the right to proviso out or exclude any individual members of any such group of values or ranges, including any sub-ranges or combinations of sub-ranges within the group, that can be claimed according to a range or in any similar manner, if for any reason Applicants choose to claim less than the full measure of the disclosure, for example, to account for a reference that Applicants can be unaware of at the time of the fding of the application. Further, Applicants reserve the right to proviso out or exclude any individual substituents, analogs, compounds, ligands, structures, or groups thereof, or any members of a claimed group, if for any reason Applicants choose to claim less than the full measure of the disclosure, for example, to account for a reference or prior disclosure that Applicants can be unaware of at the time of the filing of the application.

The name or structure also encompasses all enantiomers, diastereomers, and other optical isomers (if there are any) whether in enantiomeric or racemic forms, as well as mixtures of stereoisomers, as would be recognized by a skilled artisan, unless otherwise specified. For example, a general reference to a “Ce alkane,” “hexane” or “hexanes” includes n-hexane, 2-methylpentane, 3 -methylpentane, 2,2-dimethylbutane, and2,3-dimethylbutane; and a general reference to a “C4 alkyl” or “butyl group” includes an / / -butyl group, a sec-butyl group, an / . w-butyl group, and a / -butyl group.
[0024] The term “substituted” when used to describe a group, for example, when referring to a substituted analog of a particular group, is intended to describe the compound or group wherein any non-hydrogen moiety formally replaces hydrogen in that group or compound and is intended to be non-limiting. A compound or group can also be referred to herein as “unsubstituted” or by equivalent terms such as “non-substituted,” which refers to the original group or compound. “Substituted” is intended to be non-limiting and include inorganic substituents or organic substituents as specified and as understood by one of ordinary skill in the art.
[0025] The terms “contact product,” “contacting,” and the like, are used herein to describe compositions and methods wherein the components are contacted together in any order, in any manner, and for any length of time, unless specified otherwise. Combining additional materials or components can be done by any suitable method. Further, the term “contact product” includes mixtures, blends, solutions, slurries, reaction products, and the like, or combinations thereof. Although “contact product” can, and often does, include reaction products, it is not required for the respective components to react with one another. Similarly, “contacting” two or more components can result in a reaction product or a reaction mixture. Consequently, depending upon the circumstances, a “contact product” can be a mixture, a reaction mixture, or a reaction product.
[0026] The term “alkyl group” is used herein in accordance with the definition specified by IUPAC: a univalent group formed by removing a hydrogen atom from an alkane. The alkyl group may be linear or branched unless otherwise specified.

[0033] Provided herein are methods and systems for processing a composition, such as an odorized fluid. The processing of a composition can include storing, transporting, consuming, removing one or more components from a composition, or a combination thereof.
[0034] Methods
[0035] Methods of storing a composition are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include providing an odorized fluid, wherein the odorized fluid is disposed in a reservoir, such as a storage tank, and wherein the odorized fluid includes an odorant dispersed in a fluid; and removing at least a portion of the odorized fluid from the reservoir to form a stream including the odorized fluid.
[0036] In some embodiments, the providing of an odorized fluid includes contacting a fluid and an odorant, a stream including the odorant, or a combination thereof. The contacting of the fluid and the odorant and / or the stream including the odorant can occur before the odorant, the stream including the odorant, or the fluid is disposed in the reservoir. In some embodiments, the fluid is disposed in a reservoir prior to the contacting of the fluid and the odorant and / or the stream including the odorant. The contacting of the fluid and the odorant and / or the stream including the odorant can include disposing the odorant and / or the stream including the odorant in the reservoir. The fluid and / or the odorized fluid can be present in a component of a system, such as any of those described herein, such as a fuel distribution system or fuel supply infrastructure (fuel storage, fuel distribution, fuel delivery, etc ).
[0037] An odorant can or may not be removed from an odorized fluid before the fluid is used in any manner.
[0038] In some embodiments, the methods provided herein also include removing at least a portion of an odorant from a stream including the odorized fluid to form a stream including the fluid and a stream including the odorant. In some embodiments, the methods include providing a stream including an odorized fluid, wherein the odorized fluid includes a fluid dispersed in an odorant, and (ii) removing at least a portion of the odorant from the stream including the odorized fluid to form a stream including the fluid and a stream including the odorant.
[0039] An odorant is removed from an odorized fluid or other stream (such as an exhaust gas) when the odorant, after the removal process, is present in a stream including a fluid at aconcentration of less than 1 mg / m3, less than 0.8 mg / m3, less than 0.6 mg / m3, less than 0.4 mg / m3, less than 0.1 mg / m3, or less than 0.01 mg / m3. Alternatively, an odorant is removed when less than 10%, less than 5%, less than 2%, less than 1%, less than 0.01%, or less than 0.001% of the odorant remains in the fluid or stream after the fluid or stream is subjected to the removal process.
[0040] When an odorant is removed from an odorized fluid to produce a stream including a fluid, the methods herein can also include forwarding the stream including the fluid to an apparatus, such as an apparatus that processes, consumes, and / or stores (burns, reacts, oxidizes, reduces, flows, expands, compresses, decompresses, solidifies, vaporizes, etc.) the fluid. The apparatus can produce an odorant-free exhaust gas. An exhaust gas, other fluid, or stream is “odorant-free” when an odorant is present at a concentration of less than 1 mg / m3, less than 0.8 mg / m3, less than 0.6 mg / m3, less than 0.4 mg / m3, less than 0.1 mg / m3, or less than 0.01 mg / m3. “Odorant-free” can also be understood as a concentration low enough that the remaining odorant in the fluid after the fluid exits the exhaust can be further diluted below the odor detection threshold of the odorant in the nearby atmosphere to prevent both excess accumulation and detection of the odorant in the environment. Alternatively, a fluid can be essentially odorant free if it contains less than 5%, less than 2%, less than 1%, less than 0.01%, or less than 0.001% of the amount of odorant present in the fluid prior to the odorant removal process.
[0041] As explained herein, in some embodiments, an odorant is not removed from an odorized fluid before the odorized fluid is forwarded to an apparatus that processes, consumes, and / or stores (burns, reacts, oxidizes, reduces, flows, expands, compresses, decompresses, solidifies, vaporizes, etc.) the odorized fluid. In some embodiments, the methods also include forwarding the stream including the odorized fluid to an apparatus that consumes the fluid, thereby producing an exhaust gas including the odorant. The methods also can include removing at least a portion of the odorant from the exhaust gas, which can form a first stream including an odorant-free exhaust gas and a second stream including the odorant.
[0042] Generally, any stream that includes an odorant can be stored or recycled. In some embodiments, the methods also include disposing a stream including an odorant in a reservoir, such as an odorant storage tank. The methods also can include removing at least a portion of the stream including the odorant from the odorant storage tank when a concentration of the odorant in the odorant storage tank reaches or exceeds a critical concentration. The odorant storage tankcan be exchangeable with an empty odorant storage tank. In some embodiment, the methods also include disposing a first portion of a stream including the odorant in a first odorant storage tank, and disposing a second portion of the stream including the odorant in a second odorant storage tank when a concentration of odorant in the first odorant storage tank reaches or exceeds a critical level. In some embodiments, the methods include replacing an odorant storage tank with an empty odorant storage tank after a concentration or amount of odorant in the odorant storage tank reaches or exceeds a predetermined level.
[0043] In some embodiments, the methods also include recycling a stream including the odorant. The recycling of the stream including the odorant can include contacting the stream including the odorant and a fluid, an additional amount of a fluid, or a combination thereof, which can result in an odorized fluid. In some embodiments, the recycling of the stream including the odorant includes disposing the stream including the odorant in a reservoir in which an odorized fluid is disposed.
[0044] In some embodiments, the methods also include eliminating a stream that includes an odorant. A stream that includes an odorant can be eliminated before or after the stream that includes the odorant is disposed in a reservoir, such as an odorant storage tank.
[0045] A flow chart of an embodiment of the methods described herein is depicted in FIG. 1. The method 100 of FIG. 1 includes providing / storing 110 an odorized fluid. The odorized fluid can be disposed in a reservoir, such as a storage tank, and an include an odorant dispersed in a fluid. The method 100 of FIG. 1 also includes removing 120 at least a portion of the odorant from the odorized fluid, which can produce a first stream that includes a deodorized fluid and a second stream that includes the odorant. The method 100 of FIG. 1 includes disposing 130 the stream including the odorant in a different reservoir, such as a storage tank. The odorant in the different reservoir then can be contacted (e.g., mixed) 140 with the fluid and / or an additional amount of the fluid to produce the odorized fluid, or an additional amount of the odorized fluid. The odorant can be kept in the different reservoir, such as the storage tank, until the concentration of odorant in the different reservoir reaches or exceeds a critical level (e.g., a level detectable by humans or a sensor). The method 100 of FIG. 1 also includes using 150 the stream including the de-odorized fluid in an apparatus or device that processes, consumes, and / or stores (burns, reacts, oxidizes, reduces, flows, expands, compresses, decompresses, solidifies, vaporizes, etc.) the de-odorized fluid, and optionally releases 160 an exhaust gas produced from the de-odorized fluid.
[0046] A flow chart of another embodiment of the methods described herein is depicted in FIG. 2. The method 200 of FIG. 2 includes providing / storing 210 an odorized fluid. The odorized fluid can be disposed in a reservoir, such as a storage tank, and can include an odorant dispersed in a fluid. The method 200 of FIG. 2 includes using 250 the odorized fluid in an apparatus or device that processes, consumes, and / or stores (bums, reacts, oxidizes, reduces, flows, expands, compresses, decompresses, solidifies, vaporizes, etc.) the odorized fluid, and optionally releases an exhaust gas that includes the odorant. The method 200 of FIG. 2 includes removing 220 the odorant from the exhaust gas to produce 260 an odorant free exhaust gas. A stream that includes the odorant separated from the exhaust gas can be transferred 230 to a storage tank. When a concentration of odorant in the storage reaches a critical level, as described herein, the odorant can be injected 240 into a fluid, such as a fuel gas, to produce an odorized fluid that is provided / stored 210.
[0047] Systems
[0048] Systems for processing a composition, such as an odorized fluid, also are provided herein. The systems can store, transport, consume, and / or remove a component from a fluid, such as an odorized fluid.
[0049] In some embodiments, the systems include one or more reservoirs, an odorant removing unit, and an apparatus that consumes the fluid(s). In some embodiments, the systems include a reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid, the odorized fluid including a fluid and an odorant dispersed in the fluid; a reservoir configured for storing an odorant; an odorant removing unit; and an apparatus that consumes the fluid.
[0050] Any one or more components of the systems provided herein can be connected to each other in any manner. The one or more components, for example, can be reversibly (e.g., connected to each other via threaded piping) or permanently (e.g., welded directly or indirectly to each other via piping or otherwise) connected to each other. The one or more components, as a further example, can be connected in a manner that places the one or more components in fluid communication with each other. One or more components are in fluid communication with each other when a fluid can be transported to and / or from one component to another. In some embodiments, the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid, the reservoir configured forstoring an odorant, the odorant removing unit, and the apparatus that consumes the fluid are in fluid communication with each other. In some embodiments, the reservoir configured for storing an odorant is permanently or reversibly connected to one or more other components of the system, such as the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid.
[0051] One or more of the components of the systems provided herein can be arranged in a closed loop configuration. A system has a “closed loop configuration” when the system is configured to prevent or minimize (permanently or temporarily) the introduction of outside fluids or materials into the system. A closed loop configuration can eliminate, minimize, or reduce loss of an odorant, a fluid, an odorized fluid, or a combination thereof from the system.
[0052] Generally, the components of the systems provided herein can be arranged in any manner or order. In some embodiments, the odorant removing unit is arranged between the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid and the apparatus that consumes the fluid. When a system includes three components (e.g., A, B, and C), and component B is arranged between component A and component C, then the three components are arranged in a manner that permits a fluid to be transported from A to B, and then B to C. Therefore, the phrase “arranged between” relates to the order of components through which a fluid can pass as the fluid traverses the system, and not necessarily the physical location of the components relative to each other. In some embodiments, the apparatus that consumes the fluid is arranged between the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid and the odorant removing unit. In some embodiments, the odorant storage tank is arranged between the odorant removing unit and the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid.
[0053] The systems provided herein can include an odorant disposal unit. The odorant disposal unit can be in fluid communication with the reservoir configured for storing an odorant, the apparatus that consumes the fluid, or both the reservoir configured for storing an odorant and the apparatus that consumes the fluid.
[0054] The components of the systems provided herein can be constructed of any suitable material(s) that have one or more desirable physical properties, and / or do not undesirably impact the performance of the systems. In some embodiments, the reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid is a flexible reservoir, or a rigid reservoir.
[0055] The components of the systems provided herein can be disposable and / or reversibly connected to a system in a manner that permits a component to be replaced, such aswhen a component is filled with a certain amount of fluid. In some embodiments, the reservoir configured for storing an odorant includes a cartridge, a tank, a canister, a cylinder, a drum, or a combination thereof. As explained herein, the reservoir configured for storing an odorant, which can be referred to as an odorant storage tank, can be removed and replaced when a concentration or amount of odorant reaches or exceeds a predetermined level.
[0056] The systems provided herein can include any one or more components known in the art, such as components that can assists with the filling, draining, injecting, transporting, etc. of fluid within a system. In some embodiments, the systems also include one or more of the following elements: a refueling nozzle, a fluid refueling inlet port (such as a fuel gas refueling inlet port), a fluid inlet line (such as a fuel inlet line), an odorant injection unit, or a fluid odorant inlet port (such as a fuel gas odorant inlet port). When a system includes an odorant injection unit, the odorant injection unit can be arranged in or adjacent a reservoir configured for storing an odorized fluid.
[0057] FIG. 3 is a schematic drawing of an embodiment of a system or method for removing an odorant prior to the use of a fluid, such as a fuel gas that includes hydrogen. FIG. 3 depicts refueling nozzle 300, which can connect a refueling device or unit, such as a fuel gas refueling device or unit, with an apparatus that consumes the fluid. The fluid, which can be a fuel gas, in refueling nozzle 300 can be odorized or non-odorized. Depicted in FIG. 3 is refueling line 30, which connects refueling nozzle 300 and refueling inlet port 301. Refueling line 30 can transport either odorant free fluids, such as odorant free fuel gases, or odorized fluids, such as odorized fuel gases, or, alternatively, a mixture of both, depending on the sources available at refueling. Refueling inlet port 301 can allow the fluid, such as a fuel gas, to transfer from nozzle 300 to fluid storage tank 302 via inlet line 31. Inlet line 31 connects refueling inlet port 301 and fluid storage tank 302. Inlet line 31 can transport either odorant free fluids, such as odorant free fuel gases, or odorized fluids, such as odorized fuel gases, or, alternatively, a mixture of both depending on the sources at refueling. The system of FIG. 3 also includes storage tank 302 of fluid, such as a fuel gas. Odorized fluid line 32 connects storage tank 302 to odorant removal unit 303. Odorized fluid line 32 can transport odorant and fluids, such as fuel gases, that have been mixed together. Within odorant removal unit 303, any of the methods described herein can be used to remove the odorant, including methods that scrub or eliminate the odorant from the fluid. Upon its removal, the odorant can be transferred via recovered odorant line 33 to odorantstorage tank 304. Recovered odorant line 33 can carry odorant and no fluids. [0063] If the system of FIG. 3 or FIG. 4 experiences a loss of odorant, the odorant storage tank (304, 406) can be depleted of odorant. To avoid or address this situation, one or more of several options can be pursued, such as refueling the odorant via inlet port (307, 407) and / or various fluid lines (3A,37; 4A, 47). The tank (304, 406) can be exchanged with a refdled tank containing a sufficient level of odorant. This tank can be a single use or multi-use container.
[0064] If the system of FIG. 3 or FIG. 4 is configured to use an odorized fluid that includes a minimum or minimal amount of odorant, the odorant storage tank (304, 406) can be overfilled with odorant. To avoid or reduce the likelihood of facing this situation, however, an odorant disposal unit (308, 408) can be used to decompose the excess odorant and purge the decomposition products via an exhaust line (39, 49). The tank (304, 406) also can be exchanged with an empty tank. This tank can be a single use or multi-use container. The systems and methods of FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 can permit the mixed use of odorized or odorant free fluids, such as odorized or odorant free fuel gases. The odorant storage tank (304, 406) can be depleted or overfilled of odorant at some point in time depending on various circumstances. The same technical solutions described herein for the loss of odorant or the continuous use of odorized fluids, such as odorized fuel gas, can be deployed.
