Method of extracting lignin from a lignin source

Abstract

The embodiments of this disclosure may include a method for extracting lignin from a lignin source, comprising the formation of a slurry in which the lignin source is mixed with a first acidulant, resulting in a first acid slurry. The embodiments may further include a first separation step in which lignin is separated from the acid slurry to obtain a first lignin cake. The embodiments may further include a slurry re-formation step in which the first lignin cake is mixed with a second acidulant, resulting in a second acid slurry. The embodiments may further include a second separation step in which lignin is separated from the second acid slurry to obtain a second lignin cake. In some modalities, the temperature of the first acid slurry of the slurry formation stage can be kept below 80 °C.
