Pedal drive system

Abstract

According to the present invention, a pedal drive system for a vehicle is provided, wherein the pedal drive system comprises: a drive mechanism, wherein the drive mechanism comprises a drive arm for actuating a pedal of the vehicle;and a controller operatively connected to the drive mechanism and to a collision avoidance or autonomous vehicle control system, wherein the controller is configured to cause the drive mechanism to press and release the pedal using the drive arm in response to the receipt of one or more signals from the collision avoidance or autonomous vehicle control system, wherein the drive arm is configured such that, to operate the pedal, the drive arm rests against the pedal or against a part connected to the pedal, without being connected to the pedal or the part, so that the drive mechanism enables a human operator to manually press the pedal independently of the drive mechanism in use.
