Abstract

A process for purifying a phosphorus-containing source comprising the following steps: a) At a temperature below 100 °C for a period of less than 180 minutes, reacting at least one phosphorus-containing source comprising metallic trace elements and at least 5 wt% and at most 50 wt% phosphorus expressed as P2O5 equivalents with at least one mineral acid resulting in a digested suspension comprising said metallic trace elements in a liquid phase and a solid phase comprising mainly phosphorus-containing compounds, wherein the reaction is carried out at a molar ratio of H+ / P2O5 between 0.05 and 5, b) Separating said liquid phase from said digested suspension.
