Abstract
A system and method for the secure management of fuel delivery and inventory data at fuel service stations is disclosed. The invention incorporates a Cryptographic Assurance System (CAS) to ensure the integrity, authenticity, and confidentiality of data and commands exchanged between fuel dispensers, tank gauges, station controllers, and controlling entities. Fuel Dispensed Information (FDI) is transformed into Tamper-Proof Fuel Dispensed Information (TPFDI) using encryption or digital signatures based on cryptographic algorithms, such as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Public Key Encryption (PKE). The system securely transmits the TPFDI to a controlling entity and processes encrypted authorization commands (EACs) to ensure tamper-proof operations. The CAS employs secure storage of encryption keys in non-volatile memory within microcontroller units (MCUs) embedded in station controllers and fuel dispensers, protecting the system against unauthorized tampering. The system also supports secure software updates and dynamic cryptographic key management to adapt to constantly evolving security requirements. This invention improves operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and fraud prevention in fuel service station ecosystems.
