Abstract

This description aims to mitigate the effects of coastal upwelling on coral reefs using an artificial subsidence system that injects warm water into the upwelling jet, disrupting it. Another purpose of this description is to create favorable climatic conditions for the development of residential communities and associated infrastructure in currently uninhabitable coastal deserts at the eastern limits of the ocean. An artificial subsidence system may consist of an array of wave inertia pumps and a modified Seawater Air Conditioning (SWAC) system. In coastal deserts lacking existing infrastructure, the wave inertia pumps can be deployed first to moderate the extreme (desert) climate, followed by the development of residential infrastructure, and then the installation of the SWAC system.Through the implementation of telemetry, a distributed system of environmental sensors and an improved ocean circulation model with data assimilation and artificial intelligence, the SWAC and wave inertia pumps will contribute to the stability and maintenance of favorable climatic conditions in coastal residential areas, as well as to the recovery and expansion of coral reef habitats.
