Abstract
Description
[0001] This application is a divisional application of the invention application filed on February 5, 2015, with Chinese application number 201580026437.5 and entitled "Catalyst Composition, Preparation Method and Use in Polymerization Process".
[0002] Cross-reference to related applications
[0003] This application is an international application claiming the benefit and priority of U.S. Patent Application No. 61 / 985,143, filed April 28, 2014, and U.S. Patent Application No. 61 / 974,032, filed April 2, 2014, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical Field
[0004] This invention relates to catalyst compositions, methods for preparing said catalyst compositions, and their use in polymerizing olefins. Specifically, this invention relates to a method for preparing catalyst compositions for metallocene catalyst systems and / or conventional transition metal catalyst systems, as well as aliphatic amine additives. Background Technology
[0005] A major focus in the polyolefin industry in recent years has been the development of novel catalysts that provide new and improved products. In this regard, metallocene catalysts, for example, are now widely used in the production of polyolefin polymers, such as polyethylene. While the use of metallocene catalysts in olefin polymerization offers many advantages, significant challenges remain. For instance, metallocene catalysts, especially supported metallocene catalysts, are more prone to reactor fouling, which can lead to reactor interruptions and premature shutdowns, particularly in particle-forming processes such as gas-phase and slurry-phase processes. Adding other agents to the polymerization process, such as antifouling agents, antistatic agents, or continuous additives / auxiliaries or continuous compositions, has been used to address these fouling problems.
[0006] To address reactor fouling issues caused by highly active metallocene catalysts, additives containing aliphatic amines have been added to polymerization processes, either independently or as part of supported catalyst compositions. However, aliphatic amines invariably contain particulate inorganic materials.
[0007] U.S. Patent Application Publication No. US20010020072 discloses the use of a specific ethoxylated stearamide, AS-990, as an antistatic agent in olefin polymerization. AS-990 contains ethoxylated stearamide and particulate silica. The particulate silica is present in an amount of approximately 10% by weight, based on the weight of the ethoxylated stearamide and silica. The addition of silica improves the processing quality of the ethoxylated stearamide, which is a waxy solid at ambient temperature.
[0008] However, the preparation of such aliphatic amine / silica compositions is time-consuming and often exhibits incompatible properties. Mixing solid or waxy components can lead to the formation of agglomerates, which may make it difficult to dry the material to the low moisture content desired for olefin polymerization.
[0009] Therefore, despite the existence of various polymerization catalysts, challenges remain. Thus, there is a need for catalyst compositions suitable for olefin polymerization that are easy to prepare and process and can also be operated continuously in the polymerization process, offering enhanced reactor operability. Summary of the Invention
[0010] In a first aspect, a catalyst composition is provided comprising at least one supported polymerization catalyst, wherein the supported polymerization catalyst is modified with at least one aliphatic amine, and wherein the aliphatic amine is substantially free of particulate inorganic material. [0213] Activators and activation methods for catalyst compounds
[0214] An activator is broadly defined as any combination of reagents that increases the rate of oligomerization or polymerization of transition metal compounds into unsaturated monomers (such as olefins). It can be activated in any way sufficient to allow coordination or cationic oligomerization and / or polymerization for use in oligomerization and / or polymerization catalysis.
[0215] Alternatively, the activator can be a Lewis base, such as diethyl ether, dimethyl ether, ethanol, or methanol. Other activators that can be used include those described in WO 98 / 07515, such as tris(2,2',2″-nonafluorobiphenyl)fluoroaluminate.
[0216] Combinations of activators can be used. For example, aluminum oxanes and ionized activators can be used in combination, see, for example, EP-B1 0 573 120, WO 94 / 07928 and WO 95 / 14044, and U.S. Patents 5,153,157 and 5,453,410. WO 98 / 09996 describes the activation of metallocene catalyst compounds with perchlorates, periodates, and iodates (including their hydrates). WO 98 / 30602 and WO 98 / 30603 describe the use of lithium (2,2'-bisphenyl-ditrimethylsilyl)4THF as an activator for metallocene catalyst compounds. WO 99 / 18135 describes the use of organoboron-aluminum activators. EP-B1-0 781299 describes the use of a combination of silylium salts and noncoordinate compatible anions. WO 2007 / 024773 discloses the use of an activator-support that may comprise chemically treated solid oxides, clay minerals, silicate minerals, or any combination thereof. Furthermore, it covers activation methods such as radiation (see EP-B1-0 615 981), electrochemical oxidation, etc., for the purpose of converting neutral metallocene catalyst compounds or precursors into metallocene cations capable of polymerizing olefins. Other activators or methods for activating metallocene catalyst compounds are described, for example, in U.S. Patents 5,849,852, 5,859,653, and 5,869,723 and PCT WO 98 / 32775.
[0217] Aluminoxanes can also be used as activators in catalyst compositions. Aluminoxanes are generally oligomeric compounds containing --Al(R)--O-- subunits, where R is an alkyl group. Examples of aluminoxanes include methylaluminoxane (MAO), modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO), ethylaluminoxane, and isobutylaluminoxane. Alkylaluminoxanes and modified alkylaluminoxanes are suitable as catalyst activators, especially when the ligand that can be abstracted is a halide. Mixtures of different aluminoxanes and modified aluminoxanes can also be used. For further description, see U.S. Patents 4,665,208, 4,952,540, 5,041,584, 5,091,352, 5,206,199, 5,204,419, 4,874,734, 4,924,018, 4,908,463, 4,968,827, 5,329,032, 5,248,801, 5,235,081, 5,157,137, 5,103,031 and EP 0 561 476 A1, EP 0 279 586 B1, EP 0 516 476 A, EP 0 594 218 A1 and WO 94 / 10180.
[0218] Aluminoxanes can be generated by the hydrolysis of corresponding trialkylaluminum compounds. MMAO can be generated by the hydrolysis of trimethylaluminum and higher trialkylaluminum compounds (e.g., triisobutylaluminum). MMAO is generally more soluble in aliphatic solvents and more stable during storage. Various methods exist for the preparation of aluminoxanes and modified aluminoxanes, non-limiting examples of which are described in, for example, U.S. Patents Nos. 4,665,208, 4,952,540, 5,091,352, 5,206,199, 5,204,419, 4,874,734, 4,924,018, 4,908,463, 4,968,827, 5,308,815, 5,329,032, and 5,248. Visually clear methylalumoxanes can be used. Turbid or gelled aluminoxanes can be filtered to produce a clear solution or clear aluminoxanes can be decanted from a turbid solution. Another aluminoxane is modified methylalumoxane (MMAO) co-catalyst type 3A (available under the trade name Modified Methylalumoxane type 3A from Akzo Chemicals, Inc., disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 5,041,584).
[0219] Ionized or stoichiometric activators (neutral or ionic) may also be used, such as tris(n-butylammonium tetra(pentafluorophenyl)boron, trifluorophenylboron-based metal precursors or trifluoronaphthylboron-based metal precursors, polyhalogenated heteroborane anions (see, for example, WO 98 / 43983), boric acid (see, for example, U.S. Patent No. 5,942,459), or combinations thereof. Neutral or ionic activators may be used alone or in combination with aluminoxane or modified aluminoxane activators.
[0220] Examples of neutral stoichiometric activators may include trisubstituted boron, tellurium, aluminum, gallium, and indium, or mixtures thereof. The three substituents may each be independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, halogen, substituted alkyl, aryl, aryl halides, alkoxy, and halides. Alternatively, the three groups may be alkyl, phenyl, naphthyl, or mixtures thereof having 1 to 4 carbon groups. The three groups may be halogenated, such as fluorinated aryl. In other illustrative examples, the neutral stoichiometric activator is trifluorophenylboron or trifluoronaphthylboron.
[0221] Ionic stoichiometric activator compounds may contain active protons, or associate with other ions of the ionized compound but not coordinate, or only loosely coordinate with some other cations. Such compounds are described, for example, in European Publications EP-A-0 570 982, EP-A-0 520 732, EP-A-0 495 375, EP-B1-0 500 944, EP-A-0 277 003, and EP-A-0 277 004, and U.S. Patents 5,153,157, 5,198,401, 5,066,741, 5,206,197, 5,241,025, 5,384,299, and 5,502,124.

[0295] Method for preparing catalyst compositions
[0296] Methods for preparing catalyst compositions may involve contacting one or more supported catalysts with at least one aliphatic amine that is substantially free of particulate inorganic material. Contact may also refer to combination, blending, mixing, modification, etc. Contact may be carried out in the presence or absence of a suitable liquid medium.
[0297] Supported catalysts can be in substantially dry and / or free-flowing form or in slurry form in a suitable liquid medium.
[0298] At least one aliphatic amine may be in dry form or dissolved in a suitable liquid medium or formed into a slurry prior to contact with one or more supported catalysts. The slurry may be a suspension, dispersion, or emulsion of the aliphatic amine in the liquid medium.
[0299] Supported catalysts and aliphatic amines can be combined in the presence of a liquid, for example, mineral oil, toluene, hexane, isobutane, or mixtures thereof. In one method, the aliphatic amine can be dissolved in a suitable liquid, such as an aromatic hydrocarbon, and subsequently combined with a supported catalyst that has been slurried in a suitable liquid. The suitable liquid can be an aromatic hydrocarbon, such as toluene.
[0300] The method may include the following steps:
[0301] A slurry of a catalyst composition is formed in at least one liquid medium by contacting at least one supported catalyst with at least one fatty amine.
[0302] The method may also include the following steps:
[0303] a) Combining at least one supported catalyst with a liquid medium to form a slurry; and
[0304] b) Combining at least one fatty amine with the slurry formed in (a) to form a slurry of the catalyst composition in the liquid medium.
[0305] The method may also include the following steps:
[0306] a) Combining at least one fatty amine with a liquid mediator; and
[0307] b) Combining at least one supported catalyst with the mixture formed in a) to form a slurry of the catalyst composition in the liquid medium.
[0308] In another method, the supported catalyst can be substantially dry, pre-formed, substantially dry, and / or free-flowing. The pre-formed supported catalyst can be contacted with at least one aliphatic amine. The aliphatic amine can be in a solution or slurry or in a dry state. When the aliphatic amine is in a dry state, it can be contacted with the supported catalyst in a rotary mixer (most preferably a tilting mixer) or in a fluidized bed mixing process under a nitrogen atmosphere, wherein both the supported catalyst and the aliphatic amine are in a solid state, i.e., both are substantially dry.
[0309] Non-limiting examples of mixing devices for combining solid supported catalysts and aliphatic amines include belt mixers, static mixers, double cone mixers, drum mixers, drum rollers, dehydrators, fluidized beds, spiral mixers, and conical screw mixers.
[0310] The fatty amine is in contact with the supported catalyst for a period of time so that a significant portion of the supported catalyst is tightly mixed with and / or substantially in contact with the fatty amine.
[0311] The contact time between aliphatic amines and supported catalysts can vary depending on one or more of the following conditions: temperature and pressure, type of mixing equipment, amount of components to be combined, and even the mechanism by which the polymerization catalyst / aliphatic amine combination is introduced into the reactor.
[0312] The supported catalyst can be in contact with aliphatic amines for a period of time ranging from one second to about 24 hours, or from about one minute to about 12 hours, or from about one minute to about 5 hours, or from about two minutes to about two hours.
[0313] At least one supported catalyst and at least one aliphatic amine can be spray-dried or spray-condensed. The resulting spray-dried powder can then be formulated into a slurry in a suitable liquid medium. Those skilled in the art will be familiar with various spray-drying techniques known in the field.
[0314] The aliphatic amine may be heated to provide a free-flowing liquid before contact with one or more supported catalysts. The temperature required to melt the aliphatic amine will depend on its melting point. The temperature may be greater than 20°C, or 30°C, or 40°C, or 50°C, or 60°C, or 70°C, or 80°C, or 90°C, or 100°C, or 110°C, or 120°C, or 130°C.
[0315] The aliphatic amine may be dried, i.e., subjected to a process to reduce its moisture content, before contact with one or more supported catalysts. The drying temperature may be greater than 20°C, or 30°C, or 40°C, or 50°C, or 60°C, or 70°C, or 80°C, or 90°C, or 100°C, or 110°C, or 120°C, or 130°C.
[0316] One or more supported catalysts can be contacted with aliphatic amines at high temperatures. The contact temperature can be greater than 20°C, or 30°C, or 40°C, or 50°C, or 60°C, or 70°C, or 80°C, or 90°C, or 100°C, or 110°C, or 120°C, or 130°C.
[0317] Supported catalysts can be contacted with aliphatic amines in an inert gas atmosphere, such as nitrogen. Combinations of polymerization catalysts with aliphatic amines can also be carried out in the presence of olefins, solvents, hydrogen, etc.
[0318] Residual solvent can be removed by drying the catalyst composition. The catalyst composition can be dried at high temperatures, such as above 20°C, or 30°C, or 40°C, or 50°C, or 60°C, or 70°C, or 80°C, or 90°C, or 100°C, or 110°C, or 120°C, or 130°C. The drying temperature can be below 90°C, or 80°C, or 70°C, or 60°C, or 50°C, or 40°C.
[0319] The drying of the catalyst composition can also be carried out under vacuum conditions. Alternatively, drying can be promoted by purging or spraying the solid or slurry with nitrogen.
[0320] Those skilled in the art will recognize that, depending on the catalyst system and aliphatic amine used, certain temperature and pressure conditions will be required to prevent, for example, loss of catalyst system activity.

Regardless of which additional continuous additives are used, care should be taken in selecting appropriate additional continuous additives to avoid introducing poisons into the reactor. Furthermore, in the selected embodiments, the minimum amount of additional continuous additive necessary to bring the static charge within the desired range should be used.
[0326] Additional continuous additives may be added to the reactor in combination of two or more of the listed additional continuous additives. Additional continuous additives may be added to the reactor in solution or slurry (e.g., a slurry containing mineral oil) form, and may be added to the reactor as a separate feed stream or may be combined with other feeds prior to addition to the reactor. For example, additional continuous additives may be combined with a catalyst or catalyst slurry prior to feeding a combined catalyst-static control agent mixture into the reactor.
[0327] The additional continuous additive may be added to the reactor in amounts ranging from about 0.05 ppmw to about 200 ppmw, or from about 2 ppmw to about 100 ppmw, or from about 2 ppmw to about 50 ppmw, depending on the polymer productivity. The additional continuous additive may also be added to the reactor in amounts of about 2 ppmw or greater, depending on the polymer productivity.
[0328] Method using catalyst composition
[0329] Those skilled in the art will recognize that, depending on the olefin polymerization composition used, certain temperature and pressure conditions will be required to prevent, for example, the catalyst system from losing its activity.
[0330] The catalyst composition disclosed above can be directly introduced into the polymerization reactor. The catalyst can be in the form of a slurry suitable for liquid media or in the form of a dry powder.
[0331] It should be understood that the accurate introduction method can vary depending on one or more of the following conditions: temperature and pressure, type of mixing equipment, and amount of components to be combined.
[0332] Polymerization process
[0333] The polymerization process may include solution, gas phase, slurry phase, and high-pressure processes, or combinations thereof. In illustrative embodiments, gas-phase or slurry-phase polymerization of one or more olefins (at least one of which is ethylene or propylene) is provided. Optionally, the reactor is a gas-phase fluidized bed polymerization reactor.
[0334] The catalyst composition described above is suitable for any prepolymerization and / or polymerization process over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Temperatures can range from -60°C to about 280°C, 50°C to about 200°C, 60°C to 120°C, 70°C to 100°C, or 80°C to 95°C.
[0335] The process of the present invention is applicable to solution, high-pressure, slurry, or gas-phase polymerization processes of one or more olefin monomers having 2 to 30 carbon atoms, preferably 2 to 12 carbon atoms, and more preferably 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The process is particularly well-suited for the polymerization of two or more olefins or comonomers, such as ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 1-hexene, 1-octene, 1-decene, etc.
[0336] Other olefins that can be used in the process of this invention include olefinic unsaturated monomers, dienes having 4 to 18 carbon atoms, conjugated or non-conjugated dienes, polyenes, vinyl monomers, and cycloolefins. Available monomers may include (but are not limited to) norbornene, norbornadiene, isobutylene, isoprene, vinylbenzocyclobutane, styrene, alkyl-substituted styrene, ethylidene norbornene, dicyclopentadiene, and cyclopentene. In an illustrative embodiment of the process of this invention, an ethylene copolymer is produced wherein a comonomer having at least one α-olefin having 4 to 15 carbon atoms, preferably 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and most preferably 4 to 8 carbon atoms, is polymerized with ethylene in a gas-phase process. In another embodiment of the process of this invention, ethylene or propylene is polymerized with at least two different comonomers (optionally, one of which may be a diene) to form a terpolymer.
[0337] The present invention relates to polymerization processes, particularly gas-phase or slurry-phase processes, for polymerizing propylene alone or with one or more other monomers including ethylene and / or other olefins having 4 to 12 carbon atoms. The polymerization process may involve contacting ethylene and optionally α-olefins with one or more catalyst compositions as described above in a reactor under polymerization conditions to produce an ethylene polymer or copolymer.
[0338] Suitable gas-phase polymerization methods are described, for example, in U.S. Patents 4,543,399, 4,588,790, 5,028,670, 5,317,036, 5,352,749, 5,405,922, 5,436,304, 5,453,471, 5,462,999, 5,616,661, 5,668,228, 5,627,242, 5,665,818, and 5,677,375, and European Publications EP-A-0 794 200, EP-A-0 802 202, EP-A2 0 891 990, and EP-B-634 421.
[0339] Slurry polymerization processes are generally used at pressures ranging from about 1 atmosphere to about 50 atmospheres and even higher, and at temperatures ranging from 0°C to about 120°C. In slurry polymerization, a suspension of solid, particulate polymer is formed in a liquid polymerization diluent medium containing ethylene and comonomers, typically hydrogen, and a catalyst. The suspension, including the diluent, is removed from the reactor intermittently or continuously, whereby volatile components separate from the polymer and are optionally recycled back to the reactor after distillation. The liquid diluent used in the polymerization medium is typically an alkane having 3 to 7 carbon atoms, preferably a branched alkane. The medium used should be liquid and relatively inert under polymerization conditions. When propane is used as the medium, the process must be operated above the critical temperature and pressure of the reaction diluent. Hexane or isobutane is preferably used as the medium.
[0340] Preferred polymerization processes are referred to as particle-form polymerization, or slurry methods, in which the temperature is maintained below the temperature at which the polymer becomes a solution. Such techniques are well known in the art and are described, for example, in U.S. Patent No. 3,248,179. Other slurry processes include those using loop reactors and those using multiple stirred reactors in series, parallel, or a combination thereof. Non-limiting examples of slurry processes include continuous loop or stirred tank processes. Furthermore, other examples of slurry processes are described in U.S. Patent No. 4,613,484. Examples of solution processes are described in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,271,060, 5,001,205, 5,236,998, and 5,589,555.
[0341] Example
[0342] It should be understood that although the invention has been described in conjunction with specific embodiments thereof, the foregoing description is intended to be illustrative and not to limit the scope of the invention. Other aspects, advantages, and modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains. Therefore, the following examples are set forth to provide those skilled in the art with a complete disclosure and description of how the disclosed compositions are prepared and used, and the following examples are not intended to limit the scope of the invention.
[0343] Catalyst composition
[0344] Catalyst C-1 (Comparative)In a nitrogen glove box, 8 ml of toluene and 6.18 g of a 30 wt% MAO toluene solution (Albemarle Corporation, Baton Rouge, La.) were combined, followed by the addition of 0.136 g of bis(1,3-methyl-n-butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at ambient temperature. Subsequently, 5 g of Davison 948 silica, pre-dehydrated at 600 °C, was added, and the slurry was stirred for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. A slurry prepared from 0.036 g of AS990 (90 wt% ethoxylated stearamide and 10% syloid silica manufactured by Univation Technologies LLC, USA) in 2.0 ml of toluene was added to the mixture and stirred for 5 minutes. The composition was then dried to a free-flowing solid by purging with nitrogen at 70 °C.
[0345] Catalyst A (In this invention) In a nitrogen glove box, 8 ml of toluene and 6.18 g of a 30 wt% MAO toluene solution (Albemarle Corporation, Baton Rouge, La.) were combined, followed by the addition of 0.136 g of bis(1,3-methyl-n-butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at ambient temperature. Subsequently, 5 g of Davison 948 silica, pre-dehydrated at 600 °C, was added, and the slurry was stirred for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. 0.032 g of Varonic S202 (ethoxylated stearamide, manufactured by Evonik Goldschmidt Corporation), pre-dissolved in 2.0 ml of toluene, was added to the mixture and stirred for 5 minutes. [0346] Catalyst C-2 (Comparative) In a nitrogen glove box, 8 ml of toluene and 6.18 g of a 30 wt% MAO toluene solution were combined, followed by the addition of 0.123 g of dimethylsilyl bis(tetrahydroindene)zirconium dichloride, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at ambient temperature. Subsequently, 5 g of PQ ES70 silica, pre-dehydrated at 600 °C, was added, and the slurry was stirred for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. A slurry prepared from AS990 (0.144 g) in 2.0 ml of toluene was added to the mixture and stirred for 5 minutes. The composition was then dried to a free-flowing solid by purging with nitrogen at 70 °C.
[0347] Catalyst B (in this invention)In a nitrogen glove box, 8 ml of toluene and 6.18 g of a 30 wt% MAO toluene solution were combined, followed by the addition of 0.123 g of dimethylsilyl bis(tetrahydroindene)zirconium dichloride, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at ambient temperature. 5 g of PQ ES70 silica, pre-dehydrated at 600 °C, was added, and the slurry was stirred for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. Varonic S202 (0.130 g) pre-dissolved in 2.0 ml of toluene was added to the mixture, and the mixture was stirred for 5 minutes. The composition was then dried to a free-flowing solid by purging with nitrogen at 70 °C.
[0348] Catalyst compositions D and C-3 were prepared in the same manner as compositions A and C-1, except that bis(n-propyl-cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride was used instead of bis(1,3-methyl-n-butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride.
[0349] Laboratory polymerization
[0350] A 0.20 mmol solution of triisobutylaluminum (TIBAL) in hexane was charged into a 2-liter high-pressure reactor under nitrogen purging, followed by the addition of 1-hexene comonomer (20 ml of catalyst B and catalyst C-2, or 60 ml of catalysts A, D, C-1, and C-3) and 800 ml of isobutane diluent. The reactor contents were heated to 80°C, and then 100 mg of the catalyst composition, 3 mg of aluminum distearate, and ethylene were simultaneously introduced into the reactor to establish a total reactor pressure of 325 psi. The reactor temperature was maintained at 85°C, and polymerization was allowed to proceed for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, the reactor was cooled, ethylene and isobutane were drained, and the polymer was dried and weighed to obtain the yield. The results are summarized in Table 1.
[0351]
[0352] The results indicate that the catalyst productivity was not affected by the source of the fatty amine.
[0353] Continuous pilot-scale polymerization
[0354] Supported catalysts similar to compositions A, B, C-1, and C-2 were tested in a continuous pilot-scale gas-phase fluidized bed reactor with an inner diameter of 0.6 m and a bed height of 4.4 m. The fluidized bed consisted of polymer particles, and a gaseous feed stream of ethylene and hydrogen, along with liquid 1-hexene, was introduced into the recirculation gas line below the reactor bed. Individual flow rates of ethylene, hydrogen, and 1-hexene were controlled to maintain a fixed composition target. The ethylene concentration was controlled to maintain a constant ethylene partial pressure. Hydrogen was controlled to maintain a constant hydrogen to ethylene molar ratio. The concentrations of all gases were measured by online gas chromatography to ensure a relatively constant composition in the recirculation gas stream. The reaction bed of growing polymer particles was maintained in a fluidized state by continuously flowing the supplementary feed and recirculation gas through the reaction zone. This was achieved using an apparent gas velocity of approximately 0.7 m / s. The reactor was operated at a total pressure of 2200 kPa. The bed was maintained at a constant height by evacuating a portion of the fluidized bed at a rate equal to the rate of granular product formation. The polymer production rate is in the range of 60-70 kg / h. The product is semi-continuously removed into a fixed-volume chamber through a series of valves. This product is purified to remove entrained hydrocarbons and treated with a small stream of moist nitrogen to passivate any trace amounts of residual catalyst.
[0355] Table 2 below, based on a mass balance method, shows that catalyst compositions A and B of the present invention produce improved productivity compared to comparative catalyst compositions C1 and C2. Furthermore, reactor shell temperature and static measurements indicate that the catalyst compositions of the present invention perform well without process interference.
