The present application provides a system and method for point cloud registration. An exemplary method includes parsing semantic information from a source point cloud and a target point cloud, segmenting points in the source point cloud into a first group and a second group based on the semantic information, segmenting points in the target point cloud into a third group and a fourth group based on the semantic information, determining an initial pose of the source point cloud by aligning the first group of points in the source point cloud to the third group of points in the target point cloud according to a first resolution, and adjusting the initial pose of the source point cloud by aligning the second group of points in the source point cloud to the fourth group of points in the target point cloud according to a second resolution, wherein the second resolution is different from the first resolution.
