Description

Technical Field

[0001] The following relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to user equipment (UE) timeline quantization. Background Art

[0002] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems, and fifth generation (5G) systems that may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may employ techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform extended orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node supporting communication of multiple communication devices simultaneously, which may be referred to as UE in addition.

[0003] In some cases, the UE may receive a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission, which indicates an uplink or downlink resource for sending or receiving data, respectively. If the resource is an uplink resource, the UE may send a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission including data to the base station. If the resource is a downlink resource, the UE may receive a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission including data from the base station. After receiving the PDSCH transmission, the UE may send an ACK (ACK) or a negative ACK (NACK) to the base station to indicate whether the UE has received the PDSCH transmission. After receiving the PDSCH transmission, the UE may send an ACK or NACK within multiple symbol periods. However, conventional techniques for determining when the UE sends an ACK or NACK are computationally expensive for the UE. Summary of the invention

[0061] The described technology relates to improved methods, systems, devices and apparatuses that support UE timeline quantization. In general, the described technology provides a report that a UE sends to a base station indicating the ability of the UE to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both. In some examples, the UE may be able to receive and decode a first transmission from a base station over a period of time spanning multiple symbols, and send a subsequent transmission. In one example, the capability of the UE may refer to the minimum time that the UE can send feedback indicating whether the UE can successfully decode the first transmission from the resource after the resource for transmitting the first transmission has passed. In another example, the capability of the UE may refer to the minimum time that the UE can send an uplink transmission within the second resource indicated in the first transmission including the authorization after the resource for transmitting the first transmission has passed. The minimum duration after which the UE can receive or send a second transmission corresponding to the first transmission can be referred to as a timeline. Examples of the first and second transmissions may include downlink data and corresponding ACKs or NACKs; providing the release of semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) data resources and the transmission of corresponding ACKs or NACKs; and uplink authorizations and corresponding uplink data transmissions.

[0062] In some cases, the timeline may be quantized in terms of symbols. For example, the minimum duration after which the UE may send or receive a second transmission may be quantized to X symbols. However, quantizing the timeline in terms of symbols may involve the UE using more resources and / or power to perform operations, which is contrary to the methods described herein. As an example, the process of counting which symbol the UE will start sending or receiving a second transmission on may be simplified by quantizing the timeline in terms of slots, where there may be a given number of symbols to a single slot (e.g., 8 symbols to a slot, 14 symbols to a slot). By quantizing in terms of slots, the UE may forgo performing operations at the symbol level and may instead perform operations at the slot level, which may involve the UE using fewer resources and / or operating at lower power.

[0063] To enable slot-level quantization, the UE may convert the symbol-level offset to a slot-level offset via an upper bound operation. Once the slot-level offset is determined, the UE may send or receive the second transmission a number of slots later (given by the slot-level offset) from the last symbol from which the UE received the first transmission. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may apply the symbol-level timing offset to the last symbol from which the UE received the first transmission to determine a non-quantized start time. Once the non-quantized start time is determined, the UE may quantize the non-quantized start time of the second transmission to the next slot boundary after the non-quantized start time to determine a quantized start time for sending or receiving the second transmission.

[0064] Various aspects of the disclosure are initially described in the context of wireless communication systems. Additional aspects of the disclosure are further described in the context of additional wireless communication systems, timing schemes, HARQ timing schemes, timeline diagrams, cross-carrier timing schemes, cross-carrier scheduling timelines, BWP configurations, and process flows. Various aspects of the disclosure are further illustrated and described with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to UE timeline quantization.

[0065] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communications, low-latency communications, communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.

[0066] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.

[0067] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, mobile, or both at different times. The UEs 115 may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are shown in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as Figure 1 The base stations 105 and 106 may communicate with other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network equipment (eg, core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network equipment) as shown.

[0068] The base stations 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or with each other, or both. For example, the base stations 105 may interface with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other via the backhaul links 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces) directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or both. In some examples, the backhaul links 120 may be or include one or more wireless links.

[0069] The one or more base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base station transceiver, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB), a next generation NodeB or a giga NodeB (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology.

[0070] UE 115 may include or be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, a client, and other examples. UE 115 may also include or be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances, vehicles, meters, etc.

[0071] The UE 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as Figure 1Other UEs 115 are shown, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, relay base stations, etc.

[0072] UE 115 and base station 105 can communicate with each other wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 on one or more carriers. The term "carrier" can refer to a set of radio spectrum resources with a defined physical layer structure for supporting communication link 125. For example, a carrier for communication link 125 may include a portion of a radio frequency spectrum band (e.g., bandwidth portion (BWP)) operating according to one or more physical layer channels of a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel can carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating operations for carriers, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 can support communication with UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. According to the carrier aggregation configuration, UE 115 can be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation can be used with both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.

[0073] In some examples (e.g., in a carrier aggregation configuration), a carrier may also have acquisition signaling or control signaling that coordinates the operation of other carriers. A carrier may be associated with a frequency channel (e.g., an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (EARFCN)) and may be located according to a channel grid for discovery by a UE 115. A carrier may operate in a standalone mode, where initial acquisition and connection may be performed by a UE 115 via the carrier, or a carrier may operate in a non-standalone mode, where a different carrier (e.g., with the same or different radio access technology) is used to anchor the connection.

[0074] The communication link 125 shown in the wireless communication system 100 may include an uplink transmission from the UE 115 to the base station 105, or a downlink transmission from the base station 105 to the UE 115. A carrier may carry downlink or uplink communications (e.g., in FDD mode), or may be configured to carry both downlink and uplink communications (e.g., in TDD mode).

[0075] A carrier may be associated with a specific bandwidth of a radio frequency spectrum, and in some examples, the carrier bandwidth may be referred to as the "system bandwidth" of the carrier or wireless communication system 100. For example, the carrier bandwidth may be one of a plurality of determined bandwidths of a carrier for a particular radio access technology (e.g., 1.4, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, or 80 megahertz (MHz)). A device of the wireless communication system 100 (e.g., a base station 105 or a UE 115 or both) may have a hardware configuration that supports communication on a specific carrier bandwidth, or may be configured to support communication on one of a set of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may include a base station 105 or a UE 115 that supports simultaneous communication via carriers associated with multiple carrier bandwidths. In some examples, each served UE 115 may be configured to operate on a portion (e.g., a subband, a BWP) or all of a carrier bandwidth.

[0076] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multicarrier modulation (MCM) techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may be composed of a symbol period (e.g., the duration of a modulation symbol) and a subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the codec rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Therefore, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate for UE 115 may be. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers may also increase the data rate or data integrity for communicating with UE 115.

[0077] One or more numerologies may be supported for a carrier, where the numerologies may include subcarrier spacing (Δf) and cyclic prefixes. A carrier may be divided into one or more BWPs with the same or different numerologies. In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured with multiple BWPs. In some examples, a single BWP for a carrier may be active at a given time, and communications by the UE 115 may be limited to one or more active BWPs.

[0078] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds sampling period, where Δf maxIt can represent the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).

[0079] Each frame may include multiple consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, the frame may be divided (e.g., in the time domain) into subframes, and each subframe may be further divided into multiple time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include multiple code element periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix before each code element period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slot may also be divided into multiple mini-slots containing one or more code elements. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each code element period may contain one or more (e.g., N f ) sampling period. The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.

[0080] A subframe, slot, mini-slot, or symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).

[0081] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. For example, physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) for a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth of a carrier or a subset of that system bandwidth. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a group of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information of a control information format having a given payload size. A search space set may include a common search space set configured to send control information to multiple UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for sending control information to a specific UE 115.

[0082] In some examples, base stations 105 may be mobile and, therefore, provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0083] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets to or interconnecting with an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be transmitted through user plane entities, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. The operator IP service 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), or a packet-switched streaming service.

[0084] Some network devices, such as base stations 105, may include subcomponents such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with the UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmit / receive points (TRPs). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs), or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).

[0085] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Generally, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelength range is approximately 1 decimeter to 1 meter. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but these waves can penetrate structures sufficiently to allow macro cells to provide services to UEs 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) compared to transmission of smaller frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0086] The wireless communication system 100 can utilize both licensed RF spectrum bands and unlicensed RF spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can adopt licensed assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in unlicensed bands such as the 5GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. When operating in an unlicensed RF spectrum band, devices such as base stations 105 and UEs 115 can use carrier sensing for collision detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in unlicensed bands can be based on a combination of carrier aggregation configurations and component carriers operating in licensed bands (e.g., LAA). Operations in unlicensed spectrum can include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, and the like.

[0087] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations, or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at antenna accessories such as antenna towers. In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located in different geographical locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array with multiple rows and columns of antenna ports, which the base station 105 may use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.

[0088] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating in a particular direction relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular direction (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other direction).

[0089] UE 115 and base station 105 can support retransmission of data to increase the possibility of successfully receiving data. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback is a technique to increase the possibility of correctly receiving data through communication link 125. HARQ can include a combination of error detection (e.g., using cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC) and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). HARQ can improve the throughput at the MAC layer under poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio conditions). In some examples, the device can support same-slot HARQ feedback, where the device can provide HARQ feedback in a specific time slot for data received in a previous symbol in the time slot. In other cases, the device can provide HARQ feedback in a subsequent time slot or according to some other time interval.

[0090] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. These systems can be multiple access systems capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). A wireless network, such as a wireless local area network (WLAN) (such as a Wi-Fi (i.e., Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11) network) may include an access point (AP) that can communicate with one or more wireless or mobile devices. The AP can be coupled to a network (such as the Internet) and can enable mobile devices to communicate via network communications (or communicate with other devices coupled to the access point). A wireless device can communicate bidirectionally with a network device. For example, in a WLAN, a device can communicate with an associated AP via a downlink (e.g., a communication link from an AP to a device) and an uplink (e.g., a communication link from a device to an AP). A wireless personal area network (PAN), which may include a Bluetooth connection, can provide a short-range wireless connection between two or more paired wireless devices. For example, a wireless device such as a cellular phone can utilize wireless PAN communications to exchange information such as audio signals with a wireless headset.

[0091] In some cases, the UE 115 may send a report to the base station 105 indicating the ability of the UE 115 to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both. The UE 115 may identify that the UE 115 will utilize slot-level quantization. For example, the UE 115 may receive control signaling indicating that the UE 115 will utilize slot-level quantization, and the identification may be performed based on receiving the control signaling. The UE 115 may receive a first transmission via a first channel, and may, in response to receiving the first transmission, communicate a second transmission via a second channel at a quantized start time determined according to the slot-level quantization.

[0092] Figure 2An example of a wireless communication system 200 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system can include a base station 105a, which can be as described in reference Figure 1 An example of a base station 105 as described above; and a UE 115a, which may be as described in reference Figure 1 An example of UE 115 is described.

[0093] The base station 105-a may send a downlink data transmission 205 (e.g., a PDSCH transmission) to the UE 115-a via the carrier 202. The UE 115-a may receive the downlink data transmission 205 and may process the transmission within a timeline 215. After processing the downlink data transmission, the UE 115-a may send a feedback message 210 via the carrier 202. The feedback message 210, which may be, for example, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission, such as an ACK if the UE 115-a successfully processed the downlink data transmission 205, or a NACK if the UE 115-a failed to successfully process the downlink data transmission 205.

[0094] Timeline 215 may be related to UE capabilities (e.g., capabilities of UE 115-a) and may refer to a (e.g., minimum) number of symbols defined after UE 115-a receives a downlink data transmission 205 for which UE 115-a is capable of sending feedback message 210. Quantizing timeline 215 according to the number of symbols may be referred to as symbol-level quantization. Symbol-level quantization may produce values within a wide range. For example, if timeline 215 spans two time slots and each time slot has 14 symbols, the value of symbol-level quantization of timeline 215 may be greater than 28 symbols.

[0095] Timeline quantization may occur for single carrier scheduling, cross-carrier scheduling, or both. In one example, UE 115-a may receive downlink data transmission 205 and may send feedback message 210 on carrier 202, which may span the BWP and have a first SCS (e.g., 30 kHz). However, UE 115-a may receive a PDCCH scheduling downlink data transmission 205 on a second carrier that spans the BWP and has a second SCS (e.g., 15 kHz). Processing the PDCCH scheduling downlink data transmission 205 may involve a timeline spanning multiple symbols in the second component carrier, and processing the downlink data transmission 205 may involve a timeline 215 as described herein. Both the timeline for PDCCH processing and the timeline 215 may undergo symbol-level quantization. More details on cross-carrier scheduling may be found in Fig. 9 to describe.

[0096] Quantizing the timeline in terms of symbols may involve the UE 115-a using more resources and / or power to perform operations, which is contrary to the methods described herein. As an example, the process of counting which symbol the UE 115-a will send or receive a second transmission in may be simplified by quantizing the timeline in terms of slots, where there may be a given number of symbols that are converted into a single slot (e.g., 8 symbols per slot, 14 symbols per slot). By quantizing in terms of slots, the UE may forgo performing operations at the symbol level and may instead perform operations at the slot level, which may enable the UE 115-a to use fewer resources, operate at lower power, have less complex firmware or hardware for UE implementation, or any combination thereof.

[0097] In a first example, UE 115-a may convert a symbol-level offset (e.g., a symbol-level quantized value of timeline 215) into a number of time slots through a ceiling function, and then may apply the time slot-level offset to determine the start time of feedback message 210. In this case, two actions may be performed: performing the ceiling function and quantizing the result to the time slot level. Figure 5A , Figure 5B and Figure 5C More details about the first example are described. In the second example, UE 115-a can apply a symbol-level timing offset (e.g., a symbol-level quantized value of timeline 215) and can quantize the start time of the scheduled data or feedback message 210 to the next time slot boundary. In this case, two actions can be performed: shifting to the boundary of the next time slot and quantizing to the time slot level. Fig. 6A , Figure 6B and Figure 6C For more details about the second example, please refer to Fig. 9 Details on how to apply the first and / or second examples to cross-carrier scheduling are described.

[0098] In some cases, UE 115-a may support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both. In order to enable base station 105-a to determine which type of quantization UE 115-a supports, UE 115-a may report its capabilities to base station 105-a via report 220. UE 115-a may do this after accessing the network (e.g., after accessing base station 105-a via a handover or random access process). The message of the capability (e.g., report 220) may include timeline quantization supporting symbol-based quantization, slot-based quantization, or support for both. If UE 115-a has multiple component carriers or BWPs on which to communicate, UE 115-a may report capability indications for some or each component carrier or BWP. For example, UE 115-a may report that it supports symbol-level quantization for a first component carrier or BWP, and that it supports both symbol-level quantization and slot-level quantization for a second component carrier or BWP.

[0099] In the event that UE 115-a supports two types of quantization, the base station 105-a determines which type of quantization the UE 115-a will use. Once it is determined which type of quantization the UE 115-a will use, the base station 105-a can communicate to the UE 115-a how to switch between the quantization types. For example, the base station 105-a can send control signaling 225 indicating that the UE 115-a will use time slot level quantization or symbol level quantization. The control signaling 225 can be semi-static control signaling (e.g., MAC control element (MAC-CE) or radio resource control (RRC) signaling), or can be dynamic control signaling (e.g., PDCCH transmission including downlink control information (DCI)). An indication can be added to the control signaling 225 to show how to set the timeline quantization. If UE 115-a fails to receive control signaling 225 (e.g., because base station 105-a fails to send control signaling 225, or because base station 105-a sends control signaling 225 but UE 115-a fails to receive and / or decode control signaling 225), UE 115-a can determine to monitor the corresponding channel using time slot-based timeline quantization.

[0100] If the UE 115-a has multiple component carriers or BWPs on which it communicates with the base station 105-a, the control signaling 225 may include an indication of whether slot-level quantization or symbol-level quantization is to be used for some or each of the multiple component carriers or BWPs. Fig. 9 As described, which component carrier or BWP will have slot level quantization and which will have symbol level quantization may be based at least in part on the SCS of the component carrier or BWP.

[0101] Performing slot-level quantization instead of symbol-level quantization may have several advantages. For example, by quantizing based on slots, UE 115-a may forgo performing operations at the symbol level and may instead perform operations at the slot level, which may enable UE 115-a to use fewer resources, operate at lower power, have less complex firmware or hardware for UE implementation, or any combination thereof. Additionally or alternatively, slot-based quantization may produce smaller values than symbol-based quantization and may not involve UE 115-a counting by symbol. Additionally or alternatively, slot-based quantization may obtain an available scheduling portion.

[0102] Figure 3A , 3B 3C illustrate examples of timing schemes 300-a, 300-b, and 300-c that support UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure. In some examples, the timing schemes 300-a, 300-b, and 300-c can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the timing schemes 300-a, 300-b, and 300-c can represent the occurrence of communications between the UE 115 and the base station 105.

[0103] The NR wireless communication system may support various timelines with symbol granularity. For example, NR may support N1, which may be the minimum UE processing time in symbol counts from PDSCH to the corresponding ACK or NACK. In another example, NR may additionally or alternatively support N, which may be the minimum UE processing time in symbol counts from the PDCCH providing the SPS PDSCH release to the corresponding ACK or NACK. NR may support N2, which may be the minimum UE processing time in symbol counts from the PDCCH with the scheduling DCI to the corresponding PUSCH or PDSCH. NR may support Z, which may be the minimum UE processing time in symbol counts from the scheduling DCI to the corresponding PUSCH for non-periodic channel state information (CSI) reporting. NR may support Z ′ , which may be the minimum UE processing time in symbol counts from an aperiodic CSI-RS resource to the corresponding aperiodic CSI report.

[0104] In some cases, the timing may be related to the transmission configuration indicator (TCI) with the PDCCH. An example of timing may be a beam switching timing threshold in symbol counts for PDSCH reception (e.g., timeDurationForQCL). If the timing is greater than timeDurationForQCL, the received beam information in the PDCCH may be invalid in the PDSCH reception. Another example of timing may be a beam switching timing threshold in symbol counts for non-periodic CSI-RS reception. The timing may be used to establish the validity of the received channel information of the PDSCH or CSI-RS compared to the PDCCH channel information. Reference may be made to Figure 3A , Figure 3B and Figure 3C Describe an example of a timeline.

[0105] The NR may support the timelines described herein, and the system (e.g., network) may define a table for quantizing the values of the timelines. The quantization may be based on the symbol level and may be related to the capabilities of the UE 115. The UE 115 may report its capabilities to the base station 105 (e.g., eNB) so that the base station 105 may determine the capabilities of the UE 115. By using the capabilities, the scheduling performed by the base station may meet the minimum values (e.g., N, N1, N2, Z, Z′) handled by the UE.

[0106] For example, there may be a table including quantized values for representing the value of N1 based on different configurations and capabilities of UE 115. An example of such a table is as follows, which may give the PDSCH decoding time N1 in terms of codewords:

[0107] Table 1: PDSCH processing time for PDSCH processing capability 1

[0108]

[0109] Another example of a table is as follows, which can also give the PDSCH decoding time N1 in terms of codewords:

[0110] Table 2: PDSCH processing time for PDSCH processing capability 2

[0111]

[0112] In Table 1 and Table 2, the maximum value of N1 can be 24 symbols. Figure 3C , which value may be, for example, 20 symbols, where N1 may be from the end of the last symbol in the PDSCH to the corresponding ACK or NACK feedback. If the UE 115 reports its capabilities, the base station 105 (e.g., eNB) may schedule its ACK or NACK feedback using a larger N1 symbol gap.

[0113] The timing scheme 300-a may involve the UE 115 receiving a PDCCH transmission 305 with a DCI including an SPS PDSCH release. Upon receiving the PDCCH transmission 305, the UE 115 may process the PDCCH transmission 305 during a timeline 325 before sending a corresponding PUCCH transmission 310 (e.g., an ACK or NACK). In some examples, the timeline 325 may be at least N symbols long. Each symbol of the timeline 325 may be used to receive or send zero or more transmissions.

[0114] Timing scheme 300-b may involve UE 115 receiving PDCCH transmission 305 with channel information (e.g., receive beam). Once PDCCH transmission 305 is received, UE 115 may process PDCCH transmission 305 using the beam for PDSCH reception during timeline 330 before receiving PDSCH transmission 315. In some examples, timeline 330 may be at most timeDurationForQCL symbols long, which may enable UE 115 to effectively use the receive beam information in PDCCH transmission 305 to receive PDSCH transmission 315. Each symbol of timeline 330 may be used to receive or send zero or more transmissions.

[0115] Timing scheme 300-c may involve UE 115 receiving PDSCH transmission 315. Upon receiving PDSCH transmission 315, UE 115 may process PDSCH transmission 315 during timeline 335. In some examples, timeline 335 may be at least N1 symbols long. Each symbol of timeline 335 may be used to receive or send zero or more transmissions.

[0116] Figure 4A and Figure 4B Examples of HARQ timing schemes 400 - a and 400 - b supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure are shown. In some examples, the HARQ timing schemes 400 - a and 400 - b can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100 .

[0117] The NR wireless communication system may support various timelines. For example, K0 may represent a delay in time slots between a downlink grant (e.g., a downlink grant 405) and the corresponding downlink data 410 reception (e.g., reception of a PDSCH transmission). K1 may represent a delay in time slots between the reception of downlink data 410 (e.g., reception of a PDSCH transmission) and the corresponding ACK transmission on the uplink (e.g., uplink transmission 420). K2 may represent a delay in time slots between the reception of an uplink grant in the downlink and the transmission of uplink data (e.g., transmission of a PUSCH). K3 may represent a delay in time slots between the reception of an ACK or NACK in the uplink and the corresponding data retransmission on the downlink (e.g., retransmission via a PDSCH). One or more of such timelines may be used at least for a single parameter set case, slot-level scheduling, and a single transmit receive point (TRxP) transmission.

[0118] K0, K1, K2, and K3 may be examples of timing parameters and may represent actual scheduling delays. N, N1, and N2 may be examples of timelines and may be based on the capabilities of UE 115 and may be the minimum time gap between a first symbol and a second symbol. Each of the actual schedules may satisfy the timeline constraints such that the timing delay (e.g., the value of the timing parameter) is greater than the timeline constraint (e.g., the value of the corresponding timeline).

[0119] The HARQ timing scheme 400-a may include symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) for receiving a downlink grant 405, symbols for downlink data 410, symbols for a guard period 415, and symbols for a corresponding uplink transmission 420 (e.g., ACK or NACK). In symbols 0 and / or 1, the UE 115 may receive a downlink grant (e.g., a PDCCH transmission including a DCI). The UE 115 may process the downlink grant at a timing delay 425, which may span at least a portion of symbols 2 and 3 and may be an example of K0, where K0=0. The UE 115 may receive a corresponding downlink data transmission (e.g., a PDSCH transmission) in at least one symbol from symbols 4 to 9. Upon completion of receiving the downlink data transmission in symbol 9, the UE 115 may process the PDSCH at a timing delay 430, which may span symbols 10, 11, and 12 and may be an example of K1, where K1 = 0. Symbols 10, 11, and 12 may be used for a guard period 415. The UE 115 may send an uplink transmission 420 (e.g., an ACK or NACK) corresponding to the downlink data transmission at symbol 13.

[0120] The HARQ timing scheme 400-b may include symbols for receiving downlink grants 405, symbols for downlink data 410, symbols for guard periods 415, and symbols for corresponding uplink transmissions 420 (e.g., PUSCH transmissions). In symbols 0 and / or 1, the UE 115 may receive an uplink grant 405 (e.g., a PDCCH transmission including an uplink DCI). The UE 115 may process the uplink grant at a timing delay 435, which may span at least a portion of symbols 2, 3, and 4 and may be an example of K2, where K2=0. Symbols 2, 3, and 4 may be used for guard periods 415. The UE 115 may send corresponding uplink data transmissions (e.g., PUSCH transmissions) in at least one of symbols 5 to 13.

[0121] Figure 5A , Figure 5B and Figure 5C Examples of timeline diagrams 500-a, 500-b, and 500-c supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure are shown. In some examples, the timeline diagrams 500-a, 500-b, and 500-c can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the timeline diagrams 500-a, 500-b, and 500-c can represent examples of communication occurring between the base station 105 and the UE 115. The techniques described herein can quantize the timeline values (e.g., N1, N2) to the time slot level.

[0122] The timeline diagram 500-a may show two time slots 502-a and 502-b, each of which includes 14 OFDM symbol periods. During symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 502-a and at least a portion of symbol period 4, UE 115 may receive data transmissions (e.g., PDSCH transmission 505-a) from base station 105. Symbol period 4 of time slot 502-a, as the last symbol period on which UE 115 receives PDSCH transmission 505-a, may be considered to be the ending symbol period of PDSCH transmission 505-a. UE 115 may apply a symbol-level offset 520-a (which may span 7 symbol periods in this example) relative to the ending symbol period of PDSCH transmission 505-a to identify the symbol-level quantized start time of symbol period 12 of time slot 502-a. Thus, UE 115 may send a feedback message (such as ACK / NACK 510-a) corresponding to PDSCH transmission 505-a starting from symbol period 12 of time slot 502-a. In this example, UE 115 may send ACK / NACK 510-a on symbol period 12 of time slot 502-a.

[0123] Timeline diagram 500-b may show two time slots 502-c and 502-d, each time slot containing 14 OFDM symbol periods. On symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 502-c and at least a portion of symbol period 4, UE 115 may receive data transmissions (e.g., PDSCH transmissions 505-b) from base station 105. UE 115 may recognize a symbol-level offset of 7 symbols (e.g., symbol-level offset 520-a of timeline diagram 500-a) and may use an upper limit function to convert the symbol-level offset to a number of time slots (i.e., slot-level offset 525-a), which may relax the actual timeline to a slot-level granularity. For example, UE 115 in this example may calculate ceiling((7 / 14), 1) = 1 time slot, where 7 corresponds to the symbol-level offset and 14 corresponds to the number of OFDM symbol periods in time slot 502. Once the symbol-level offset is converted to a slot 502 number, the UE 115 may apply the slot-level offset to identify the slot-level quantized start time of symbol period 5 of slot 502-d. Thus, the UE 115 may send a feedback message (such as ACK / NACK 510-b) corresponding to the PDSCH transmission 505-b starting from symbol period 5 of slot 502-d. In this example, the UE 115 may send ACK / NACK 510-b on symbol period 5 of slot 502-d.

[0124] In some cases, the symbol-level timeline (e.g., symbol-level offset) may be equal to the length of slot 502 (e.g., 14 symbol periods in this example). In this case, the upper limit function and the symbol-level offset may result in the same offset of 1 slot equivalent to 14 symbol periods. This case may not involve timeline relaxation because slot quantization and symbol-level offset may result in the same offset being applied.

[0125] The timeline diagram 500-c may illustrate a plurality of time slots 502 (e.g., time slots 502-e, 502-f, and 502-g), each containing 14 OFDM symbol periods. During symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 502-e and at least a portion of symbol period 4, the UE 115 may receive a data transmission (e.g., a PDSCH transmission 505-c) from the base station 105. The UE 115 may identify a symbol-level offset of M symbol periods and may use an upper limit function to convert the symbol-level offset to a number of time slots 502 (i.e., a slot-level offset 525-b), which may relax the actual timeline to a slot-level granularity. For example, the UE 115 in this example may calculate ceiling((M / 14), 1) = Q time slots, where M corresponds to the symbol-level offset and 14 corresponds to the number of OFDM symbol periods in the time slot 502. Once the symbol-level offset is converted to a number of slots 502, the UE 115 may apply the slot-level offset to identify the slot-level quantized start time of symbol period 5 of the (Q+1)th slot 502 (e.g., slot 502-g). Thus, the UE 115 may send a feedback message (such as ACK / NACK 510-c) corresponding to the PDSCH transmission 505-b starting from symbol period 5 of the (Q+1)th slot 502 (e.g., slot 502-g). In this example, the UE 115 may send ACK / NACK 510-b on symbol period 5 of the (Q+1)th slot 502 (e.g., slot 502-g).

[0126] In some cases, the symbol-level timeline (e.g., the symbol-level offset) may be equal to the length of a number of slots 502 (e.g., 14n symbol periods in this example, where n is an integer). In this case, the UE 115 performing the upper limit function and the symbol-level offset may result in the same offset. Such a case may not involve timeline relaxation. For example, when the subcarrier spacing is 30kHz, there are 14 symbols per slot. When the symbol-level timeline is equal to 14*n, n=1, 2, 3..., slot-level quantization and symbol-level offset may result in the same offset being applied.

[0127] Fig. 6A , Figure 6B and Figure 6C Examples of timeline diagrams 600-a, 600-b, and 600-c that support UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure are shown. In some examples, the timeline diagrams 600-a, 600-b, and 600-c can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the timeline diagrams 600-a, 600-b, and 600-c can represent examples of communications occurring between the base station 105 and the UE 115.

[0128] The timeline diagram 600-a may show two time slots 602-a and 602-b, each time slot comprising 14 OFDM symbol periods. During symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 602-a and at least a portion of symbol period 4, the UE 115 may receive data transmissions (e.g., PDSCH transmission 605-a). Symbol period 4 of time slot 602-a, being the last symbol period on which the UE 115 receives the PDSCH transmission 605-a, may be considered to be the ending symbol period of the PDSCH transmission 605-a. The UE 115 may apply a symbol-level offset 620-a (which may span 7 symbol periods in this example) relative to the ending symbol period of the PDSCH transmission 605-a to identify the symbol-level quantized start time of symbol period 12 of time slot 602-a. Thus, UE 115 may send a feedback message (such as ACK / NACK 610) corresponding to PDSCH transmission 605-a starting from symbol 12 of slot 602-a. In this example, UE 115 may send ACK / NACK 610 on symbol period 12 of slot 602-a.

[0129] Timeline diagram 600-b may illustrate two time slots 602-c and 602-d, each time slot comprising 14 OFDM symbol periods. Over symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 602-c and at least a portion of symbol period 4, UE 115 may receive data transmissions (e.g., PDSCH transmission 605-b) from base station 105. UE 115 may identify a symbol-level offset of 7 symbols (e.g., symbol-level offset 620-a of timeline diagram 600-a) and may apply the symbol-level offset to determine a non-quantized start time within time slot 602-c for the feedback message relative to the end symbol period of PDSCH transmission 605-b. For example, in this example, UE 115 may determine a non-quantized start time for symbol 12 of time slot 602-c. UE 115 may quantize the non-quantized start time to the boundary of the next time slot 602 after 602-c to identify the time slot-level quantized start time. In this example, the next time slot 602 after time slot 602-c may be time slot 602-d, and the quantized start time may be the codeword period 1 of time slot 602-d. Therefore, UE 115 may send a feedback message (such as ACK / NACK 610-b) corresponding to PDSCH transmission 605-b starting from the codeword period 1 of time slot 602-d. In this example, UE 115 may send ACK / NACK 610-b in the codeword period 1 of time slot 602-d.

[0130] In some cases, the symbol-level timeline (e.g., the symbol-level offset) may be such that applying the symbol-level offset to the end symbol period will result in a non-quantized start time for symbol period 1 in slot 602-d (e.g., if the symbol-level offset is equal to 10). In this case, the symbol-level offset and the quantized start time may result in the same offset as the slot level (e.g., to the slot boundary between slots 602-c and 602-d). Such a case may not involve timeline relaxation as with UE 115, since the symbol-level offset and the quantized start time may result in the same offset.

[0131] Timeline diagram 600-c may illustrate a plurality of time slots 602 (e.g., time slots 602-e, 602-f, 602-g, and 602-h) each containing 14 OFDM symbol periods. During symbol periods 2 and 3 of time slot 602-e and at least a portion of symbol period 4, UE 115 may receive a data transmission (e.g., PDSCH transmission 605-c) from base station 105. UE 115 may identify a symbol-level offset for M symbol periods and may apply the symbol-level offset to determine a non-quantized start time of a feedback message relative to an end symbol period of PDSCH transmission 605-b. For example, in this example, UE 115 may determine time slot The UE 115 may quantize the non-quantized start time of the symbol mod(M+4,14)+1 of the time slot 602-g (e.g., time slot 602-g), where mod may represent a modulo function whose divisor is the number of symbols in the time slot 602 (e.g., 14), and floor may represent a floor function. (e.g., time slot 602-h) to identify the quantized start time. The UE 115 may transmit a feedback message (such as an ACK / NACK 610-c) corresponding to the PDSCH transmission 605-c starting at symbol period 1 of the (floor(M+4+1,14)+1)th time slot 602 (e.g., time slot 602-h). In this example, the UE 115 may transmit an ACK / NACK 610-b at symbol period 1 of the (floor(M+4+1,14)+1)th time slot 602 (e.g., time slot 602-h).

[0132] In some cases, the symbol-level timeline (e.g., symbol-level offset) may be such that applying the symbol-level offset to the ending symbol period will result in The non-quantized start time of symbol period 1 in each slot may be the same as the non-quantized start time of symbol period 1 in each slot (e.g., if the symbol-level offset M is equal to (14n+10), where n is an integer). In this case, the non-quantized start time may be the same as the slot-level quantized start time, resulting in the same offset. Such a case may not involve timeline relaxation as in UE 115.

[0133] Figure 7 An example of a timing scheme 700 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the timing scheme 700 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the timing scheme 700 can represent communications between a UE 115 and a base station 105. Each time slot 704 in this example can have 8 symbols 703.

[0134] UE 115 may communicate with base station 105 via carrier 702. For example, UE 115 may receive a PDCCH transmission 705 in time slot 704-a that may schedule a PDSCH transmission. If slot-level quantization is avoided, UE 115 may send PDSCH transmission 710 after timeline 713 has passed. Timeline 713 may be as described in reference to FIG. Figure 3A , Figure 3B and Figure 3C An example of N2 is described.

[0135] If slot-level quantization is performed, UE 115 may perform slot-level quantization on N2, such as referring to Figure 6B and Figure 6C As described. For example, the time slot of the second channel / signal (e.g., PDSCH, feedback signal) can be quantized to the next time slot boundary of the second channel / signal. However, in some cases, the carrier 702 can have a fixed pattern. For example, the first codeword 703 in each time slot 704 (e.g., codeword 703-a of time slot 704-a and codeword 703-b of time slot 704-b) can be used to receive PDCCH transmission 705. Therefore, even if codeword 703-b is the first codeword 703 of time slot 704-b, the PDSCH transmission corresponding to the PDCCH transmission 705 may not be set to start in codeword 703-b. On the contrary, the N2 quantized timeline 718 can be set so that the PDSCH transmission 715 can be sent starting from the codeword 703 directly after the codeword 703-b (e.g., codeword 703-c). The next time slot boundary can be the boundary of the next available part in the next time slot 704. In this example, the next time slot 704 may be time slot 704-b and the available portion may begin with symbol 703-c.

[0136] Figure 8An example of a cross-carrier timing scheme 800 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the cross-carrier timing scheme 800 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the cross-carrier timing scheme 800 can represent communications between a UE 115 and a base station 105.

[0137] At least for the case where a lower SCS PDSCH schedules a higher SPS PDSCH, the earliest possible start point for receiving the PDSCH may be defined by the end of the PDCCH plus Δ. Δ may depend on a number of factors affected by the UE implementation. Therefore, it may be preferable to support determination of Δ based on UE capability reports.

[0138] For wireless devices supporting NR, one or more of various PDCCH monitoring scenarios may occur. For example, UE 115 may use slot-based scheduling, which may involve PDCCH monitoring at the beginning of a slot. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 may perform a shifted version of the above monitoring (e.g., monitoring at the beginning of a slot). UE 115 may do so if the SCS has a specific value (e.g., 15 kHz). Additionally or alternatively, UE 115 may perform non-slot-based (e.g., symbol-based) scheduling, which enables PDCCH transmissions anywhere within a slot.

[0139] The cross-carrier timing scheme 800 may involve a UE 115 having two carriers 805-a and 805-b. Carrier 805-a may have a first SCS (e.g., 15kHz) and carrier 805-b may have a second SCS (e.g., 30kHz). The UE 115 may receive a PDCCH transmission using a downlink control resource element 810 and may have a PDCCH processing delay 825 for processing the PDCCH transmission. The processing delay may be given by Δ. The codewords of carrier 805-b that occur before or during the PDCCH processing delay 825 may be non-causal codewords 815, while the codewords that occur afterward may be causal codewords 820. The non-causal codewords 815 depicted herein may be for K0=0 because buffering may be used for the PDCCH processing delay 825. Additional details about K0=0 may be described with reference to FIG. 4. The UE 115 may receive a PDSCH transmission over carrier 805-b during the causal codeword 820.

[0140] Fig. 9 An example of a cross-carrier scheduling timeline 900 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the cross-carrier scheduling timeline 900 can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the cross-carrier scheduling timeline 900 can represent an example of communication occurrences between the base station 105 and the UE 115.

[0141] UE 115 may communicate based on component carriers 902-a and 902-b. Component carrier 902-a may have a smaller SCS (e.g., 15 kHz) than component carrier 902-b (e.g., 30 kHz), but may have a larger symbol period duration than component carrier 902-b. For example, the SCS of component carrier 902-a may be half that of component carrier 902-b, and the symbol period duration of component carrier 902-a may be twice that of component carrier 902-b. Thus, the length of a time slot (e.g., time slot 927) for component carrier 902-a may be twice the length of a time slot (e.g., time slot 930) for component carrier 902-b. The time slots 930 for the component carrier 902-b may correspond to different values of K0 (e.g., time slot 930-a may correspond to K0=0, time slot 930-b may correspond to K0=1, and time slot 930-c may correspond to K0=2), where K0 may be as described with reference to FIG. 4 and / or Figure 8 as described.

[0142] During symbol periods 0 and 1 of time slot 927, UE 115 may receive PDCCH transmission 905 from base station 105. UE 115 may process PDCCH transmission 905 over PDCCH processing delay 925. Once processing of PDCCH transmission 905 is complete, UE 115 may determine that it will receive first PDSCH transmission 910 in time slot 930-b and second PDSCH transmission 910 in time slot 930-c.

[0143] Upon receiving the first PDSCH transmission 910 on component carrier 902-b in time slot 930-b, UE 115 may process PDSCH transmission 910 according to timeline 935-b (which may span 3 symbols of time slot 930-b) and may send a PUCCH transmission 920 in time slot 930-b for the first PDSCH transmission 910. Similarly, upon receiving the second PDSCH transmission 910 on component carrier 902-b in time slot 930-c, UE 115 may process the second PDSCH transmission 910 according to timeline 935-b (which may span 3 symbols of time slot 930-c) and may send a PUCCH transmission 920 in time slot 930-c for the second PDSCH transmission 910.

[0144] Additionally, UE 115 may receive a third PDSCH transmission 910 on component carrier 902-a in timeslot 927 over symbol periods 2 through 10. Third PDSCH transmission 910 may have been scheduled by a previous PDCCH transmission 905 (not shown). Upon receiving third PDSCH transmission 910 on component carrier 902-a in timeslot 927, UE 115 may process PDSCH transmission 910 according to a timeline 928 (which may span 2 symbols of timeslot 927) and may send a PUCCH transmission 920 for third PDSCH transmission 910.

[0145] In some cases, one or both of component carriers 902-a and 902-b may be configured to perform slot-level quantization. In one example, component carrier 902-a may be configured to perform symbol-level quantization and component carrier 902-b may be configured to perform slot-level quantization. In this case, timelines 935-a and 935-b may be adjusted so that the corresponding PUCCH transmission 920 is sent in the next time slot (e.g., regarding Figure 6B and Figure 6C ), or can be converted to a slot-level timeline (as described in Figure 5B and Figure 5C described).

[0146] In some cases, the timeline quantization setting may depend on the scheduling. For example, a scheduled carrier (e.g., component carrier 902-a) may be configured with symbol-level quantization, while a scheduled carrier (e.g., component carrier 902-b) may be configured with slot-level quantization. Additionally or alternatively, a component carrier 902 (e.g., component carrier 902-a) having a lower SCS or an SCS below a threshold among two or more component carriers 902 may be configured with symbol-level quantization, while a component carrier 902 (e.g., component carrier 902-b) having a higher SCS or an SCS above a threshold among two or more component carriers may be configured with slot-level quantization.

[0147] Fig.10 An example of a BWP configuration 1000 supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the BWP configuration 1000 can be implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the BWP configuration 1000 can represent a BWP used by a UE 115 and a base station 105 to perform communications.

[0148] In some cases, the UE 115 may communicate with the base station 105 via multiple BWPs, which may include a default BWP 1005 and other BWPs 1010. The quantization applied to each of these BWPs may depend on the BWP and may be specified in control signaling (e.g., as described in reference to Figure 2 The control signaling 225, which may be an indication in a MAC-CE, an RRC message, or a PDCCH DCI). In one example, each BWP may have an independent indication for selecting a timeline quantization mode. For example, the control signaling may include a first indication for a first BWP, a second indication for a second BWP, and the like. Additionally or alternatively, each BWP may share the same indication for selecting a timeline quantization mode. For example, the control signaling may include a single indication for performing slot-level quantization, which may be applied in each BWP.

[0149] In some cases, whichever BWP is the initial downlink BWP or the default BWP 1005 may support slot-based timeline quantization, and the other BWP 1010 may support symbol-based timeline quantization. In this case, the UE 115 may determine which type of quantization will be applied without receiving control signaling. Additionally or alternatively, whichever BWP is the initial downlink BWP or the default BWP 1005 may support slot-based timeline quantization, and the other BWP 1010 may support both symbol-based and slot-based quantization based on a configuration (e.g., a configuration provided by control signaling, the configuration having independent values for each of the other BWPs 1010, or having a single value for each of the other BWPs 1010).

[0150] In one example, if Fig.10 As shown, the UE 115 may communicate via a default BWP 1005 and another BWP 1010, wherein the default BWP 1005 and the other BWP 1010 may use slot-level timeline quantization. As described herein, the UE 115 may have received control signaling that independently configures the default BWP 1005 and the other BWP 1010 with slot-level quantization, or configures the default BWP 1005 and the other BWP 1010 with a single value of slot-level quantization. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 115 may have been pre-configured to use slot-level timeline quantization for the default BWP 1005 and the other BWP 1010. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 115 may have been pre-configured to use slot-level timeline quantization for the default BWP 1005, but may receive control signaling that configures the other BWP 1010 with slot-level timeline quantization.

[0151] At 1020-a, UE 115 may complete receiving a first downlink data transmission and may process the first downlink data transmission on timeline 1015-a. At 1025-a, UE 115 may begin sending a first feedback message. Similarly, at 1020-b, UE 115 may complete receiving a second downlink data transmission and may process the second downlink data transmission on timeline 1015-b. At 1025-b, UE 115 may begin sending a second feedback message. The starting codeword for transmission of the first and second feedback messages may be the starting codeword of the corresponding time slot 1012. The method that UE 115 may use to perform time slot level quantization for the default BWP 1005 may be as described in reference to Figure 6B and Figure 6C as described.

[0152] At 1035-a, UE 115 may complete receiving a first downlink data transmission and may process the first downlink data transmission on timeline 1030-a. At 1040-a, UE 115 may begin sending a first feedback message. Similarly, at 1035-b, UE 115 may complete receiving a second downlink data transmission and may process the second downlink on timeline 1030-b. At 1040-b, UE 115 may begin sending a second feedback message. The start codeword for the transmission of the first and second feedback messages may be one codeword larger than the end codeword for the first and second downlink data transmission within each time slot 1027, respectively. The method that UE 115 may use to perform time slot level quantization for other BWP 1010 may be as described in reference. Figure 5B and Figure 5C as described.

[0153] Fig.11 An example of a process flow 1100 for supporting UE timeline quantization according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the process flow 1100 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the process flow 1100 can include a base station 105-b (which can be as described in reference Figure 1 105) and UE 115-b (which may be as described in reference Figure 1 115 as described above).

[0154] At 1105, UE 115-b may send a report indicating the capability of UE 115-b to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both. In some cases, the report may provide a first capability indication of UE 115-b to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both for a first bandwidth portion. Additionally, the report may provide a second capability indication of UE 115-b to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both for a second bandwidth portion different from the first bandwidth portion. In some cases, the report may provide an capability indication of UE 115-b to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both for each bandwidth portion in a set of bandwidth portions. In some cases, the report may provide a first capability indication of UE 115-b to support slot-level quantization, symbol-level quantization, or both on a first bandwidth portion and a second capability indication of UE 115-b to support symbol-level quantization, slot-level quantization, or both on a second bandwidth portion.

[0155] At 1110, the base station 105-b may determine that the UE 115-b will utilize slot-level quantization. In some cases, determining that the UE 115-b will use slot-level quantization may be based on receiving a report at 1105 indicating the capabilities of the UE 115-b.

[0156] At 1115, the base station 105-b may send control signaling indicating that the UE 151-b is to utilize slot-level quantization to identify a quantized start time. For example, the control signaling may indicate that the UE 115-b is to utilize slot-level quantization by converting a symbol-level offset to a number of slots using an upper limit function, and applying a slot-level offset relative to an end symbol period of the first transmission based on the number of slots to identify a quantized start time for the second transmission. Additionally or alternatively, the control signaling may indicate that the UE 115-b is to utilize slot-level quantization by applying a symbol-level offset to determine a non-quantized start time within a first slot for the second transmission relative to an end symbol period of the first transmission, and quantizing the non-quantized start time to a boundary of a next slot after the first slot to identify a quantized start time for the second transmission. The UE 115-b may receive the control signaling. In some cases, the control instruction may indicate that the UE 115 - b is to utilize slot-level quantization on the first bandwidth portion and slot-level quantization or symbol-level quantization on the second bandwidth portion.

[0157] In some cases, the control signaling may indicate that UE 115-b is to apply symbol-level quantization on a first carrier and slot-level quantization on a second carrier different from the first carrier, wherein the first carrier is a scheduled carrier for the second carrier. In some cases, the control signaling may indicate that UE 115-b is to apply symbol-level quantization on a first carrier having a first subcarrier spacing and slot-level quantization on a second subcarrier having a second subcarrier spacing higher than the first subcarrier spacing. In some cases, the control signaling may be RRC signaling, DCI, MAC CE, or any combination thereof, indicating which of slot-level quantization or symbol-level quantization UE 115-b is to utilize.

[0158] At 1120, UE 115-b may identify that UE 115-b will utilize slot level quantization. In some cases, identifying that UE 115-b will use slot level quantization may be based on determining that control signaling (e.g., control signaling indicating which of symbol level quantization or slot level quantization will be used) was not received in response to the reported transmission. One such scenario may be, for example, if UE 115-b does not receive the control signaling sent at 1115. In some cases, identifying that UE 115-b will utilize slot level quantization involves UE 115-b receiving control signaling indicating that UE 115-b will utilize slot level quantization (e.g., as described at 1115), the control signaling being RRC signaling, DCI, MAC-CE, or any combination thereof.

[0159] At 1125, base station 105-b may send a grant allocating resources of the first channel for the first transmission. UE 115-b may receive the grant.

[0160] At 1130, base station 105-b may send a first transmission via the first channel. UE 115-b may receive the first transmission. In some cases, the first transmission is a grant to allocate resources of the second channel for the second transmission. If UE 115-b receives a grant to allocate resources of the first channel for the first transmission, the first transmission may be a shared channel transmission.

[0161] At 1135, UE 115-b may, in response to receiving the first transmission, communicate a second transmission with base station 105-b via a second channel at a quantized start time determined according to the slot level quantization and / or the quantized start time. If UE 115-b receives the grant at 1125, the second transmission may be a feedback message for the first transmission communicated via the second channel at the quantized start time determined according to the slot level quantization.

[0162] At 1140, the base station 105-b may send control signaling indicating that the UE 115-b is to utilize symbol-level quantization. The UE 115-b may receive the control signaling.

[0163] At 1145, UE 115-b may identify that UE 115-b will utilize symbol-level quantization.

[0164] Base station 105-b may send a third transmission on the first channel at 1150. UE 115-b may receive the third transmission on the first channel.

[0165] At 1155 , UE 115 - b may communicate a fourth transmission with base station 105 - b via the second channel at a second quantized start time determined based on the symbol-level quantization in response to receiving the third transmission.
