Location and mapping of a group of mobile communication devices

Abstract

A mobile communication device (200) for performing localization and map building is disclosed, comprising: a sensor operable to capture (111) sensor data of the local environment of the mobile communication device, and operable to: derive (112) point cloud data from the sensor data, the point cloud data representing structural features of the local environment; determine (113) the pose of the mobile communication device relative to a point cloud map representing the local environment; derive (115) a hidden representation of the point cloud data by applying a current linear transformation to the point cloud data; and send (116) the hidden representation of the point cloud data to a map server (300). The current linear transformation is a shared secret or can be derived from a shared secret, which can be used by a group of mobile communication devices including the mobile communication device. A map server (300) and a trusted server (400) are also disclosed.
