Abstract

This invention discloses a method, system, and computer program for compressing nucleic acid sequence data. The method may include: obtaining nucleic acid sequence data representing: (i) read sequences, and (ii) multiple quality fractions; determining whether the read sequence includes at least one N base; based on the determination that the read sequence does not include at least one N base, generating a first encoded dataset using a first encoding process that encodes each quality fraction of the read sequence using a number to the base (x-1), where x is an integer representing the number of different quality fractions used by a nucleic acid sequencing device; and encoding the first encoded dataset using a second encoding process to compress the data to be compressed.
