Method of welding joints by means of an ultrasonic welding device

Abstract

A method of welding joints by means of an ultrasonic welding device having an ultrasonic horn for generating ultrasonic vibrations, an anvil, a first lateral piece, a second lateral piece and a compaction chamber, the compaction chamber height being adjustable by changing the distance between the ultrasonic horn and the anvil, the compaction chamber width being adjustable by changing the distance between the first lateral piece and the second lateral piece. The method comprises the steps of arranging a first wire portion of at least two electrical wires to be welded in the compaction chamber, adjusting the compaction chamber width to a predetermined value for a first welding operation, performing the first welding operation, welding the first wire portion to form a first joint, arranging a second wire portion of at least one further electrical wire to be welded and the first joint in the compaction chamber, adjusting the compaction chamber width to a predetermined value for a second welding operation, performing the second welding operation, welding the first joint and the second wire portion to form a second joint.
