Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the invention patent application entitled "Liquid Storage Container", filed on July 13, 2021, with application number 202110787384.6. Technical Field

[0002] This disclosure relates to a liquid storage container configured to store liquids. Background Technology

[0003] Liquid tanks used in liquid ejection devices such as inkjet printers contain liquid tanks that can be replenished. For example, by using a liquid storage container that includes a discharge port for pouring out liquid, liquid can be replenished from the liquid storage container to the liquid tank through the discharge port. In such liquid storage containers, a valve with a slit is provided at the front end of the discharge port to prevent soiling of the surrounding area and the user's hands, thereby forcibly preventing liquid leakage (see Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 2018-95277 (hereinafter referred to as Document 1)).

[0004] Document 1 describes a container comprising a discharge port body and a cover capable of opening and closing the discharge port by covering it, wherein a valve with a slit is disposed inside the discharge port body. Document 1 describes a configuration in which the discharge port is sealed with the cover before being fully closed, and then the cover is fully closed such that a protrusion formed in the cover is inserted into the valve to open the slit portion of the valve.

[0005] In the configuration described in Reference 1, the protrusion moves away from the valve immediately after the lid is opened, thereby closing the valve. Therefore, the seal of the liquid storage container is maintained even when the lid is open. According to this configuration, if the internal pressure of the liquid storage container is higher than the external pressure, there is a possibility that liquid may spray out of the liquid storage container when the valve is opened to replenish the liquid tank from the liquid storage container. Furthermore, there is a possibility that if the liquid storage container is tilted so that the outlet faces downwards, the head difference between the liquid in the liquid storage container and the valve may exceed the valve's pressure resistance, causing the valve to open and liquid to spray out. The sprayed liquid may directly reach the outside of the liquid storage container. Summary of the Invention

[0006] According to one aspect of the invention, a liquid storage container includes: a discharge port member having a discharge port through which liquid stored in a storage portion is discharged; a cover configured to be attachable to and detachable from the discharge port member, and capable of opening and closing the discharge port; a liquid shut-off valve disposed inside the discharge port member; and a protrusion disposed inside the cover and configured to open the liquid shut-off valve when the cover is closed, wherein the storage portion can be sealed by at least one of a first sealing portion formed by a contact portion between the cover and the discharge port member and a second sealing portion formed by the liquid shut-off valve, and the first sealing portion and the second sealing portion are configured to be opened simultaneously.

[0018] The embodiments are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Note that the same structures in the specification are indicated by the same reference numerals. Furthermore, the arrangement of the constituent elements relative to each other, the shapes of the constituent elements, etc., described in the embodiments are merely examples.

[0019] <<First Embodiment>>

[0020] Figure 1 This is a perspective view of the liquid injection device 1 in this embodiment. Figure 1 The liquid jetting device 1 shown is a serial inkjet printing device. Figure 1 The liquid jetting device 1 shown includes a housing 11 and a liquid tank 12 disposed inside the housing 11. Each liquid tank 12 stores ink as a liquid to be jetted onto a printing medium (not shown).

[0021] Figure 2 yes Figure 1 A perspective view of the internal structure of the liquid injection device 1 shown. Figure 2 In this embodiment, the liquid jetting device 1 includes a transport roller 13 for conveying printing media (not shown), a carriage 15 equipped with a print head 14 configured to jet liquid, and a carriage motor 16 for driving the carriage 15. The printing media is not limited to any specific medium; any medium on which an image can be formed using liquid jetted from the print head 14. Examples of printing media include paper, cloth, CD label surfaces, plastic sheets, and OHP sheets.

[0022] Liquid is stored in liquid tank 12 and supplied to printhead 14 via liquid dispensing channel 17 for ejection from printhead 14. In this embodiment, four colors of ink (e.g., cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) are used as liquid, and four liquid tanks 12a to 12d for storing ink of the corresponding colors are provided as liquid tank 12. In the following description, when referring to the individual liquid tanks that are distinct from each other, a letter is added to the end, for example, liquid tanks 12a to 12d. When referring to any one of the liquid tanks, the liquid tank is referred to as liquid tank 12. The liquid tanks 12a to 12d for the corresponding colors are arranged inside the housing 11 in the front portion of the liquid ejection device 1.

[0023] Figure 3A yes Figure 1 An example of an enlarged perspective view of the portion of the liquid injection device 1 that houses the liquid tanks 12b to 12d. Figure 3B Is with Figure 3A The perspective view shown corresponds to a plan view. Each liquid tank 12 includes a liquid tank body 121 for storing liquid and a communicating flow channel 122 communicating with a liquid storage chamber in the liquid tank body 121. The liquid tank 12 includes a tank lid 123 (see...). Figure 2The lid is configured to be attached to cover the communicating flow channel 122 and seal the storage chamber in the liquid tank body 121, except when replenishing liquid. When replenishing liquid to the liquid tank 12, the liquid storage container 2 (see...) Figure 4 The outlet of the liquid storage container 2 is inserted into the connecting flow channel 122 to pour liquid into the liquid tank 12. Except when replenishing liquid, the liquid storage chamber is sealed with the tank lid 123 to reduce evaporation of the liquid within the liquid tank 12. The connecting flow channel 122 includes two flow channels extending parallel to each other in the vertical direction and is configured to allow liquid from the liquid storage container 2 to be poured into the liquid tank via gas-liquid exchange. A spout 18 is provided in a part of the liquid injection device 1, into which the outlet of the liquid storage container 2 is inserted. The spout 18 has a protrusion 19 projecting inward from its inner peripheral wall. A spout 18 is provided for each liquid tank 12, and the shape of the protrusion 19 differs between each spout 18 to prevent incorrect insertion of the liquid container. The protrusion 19 is rotationally symmetrical about 180° relative to the central axis of the connecting flow channel 122.

[0024] Figure 4 This is a front view of the appearance of the liquid storage container 2, which is a liquid container used to replenish liquid to liquid tank 12. Figure 4 The liquid storage container 2 includes a bottle 21 as a storage part (main body) configured to store liquid, a nozzle 22 connected to the bottle 21, and a cap 23 that can be attached to and detached from the nozzle 22. The nozzle 22 is a discharge port component that functions as an outlet when discharging the liquid stored in the bottle 21. The cap 23 is a cover attached to the nozzle 22 to isolate the interior of the liquid storage container 2 (specifically the bottle 21) from external air. Methods for connecting the bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 include sealing the space between the bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 by inserting a flexible member, forming both the bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 with a resin component, and welding the two components together. The bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 can be a single integral component.

[0025] Figure 5A It shows Figure 4 An example of a component construction view of the liquid storage container 2 shown. Figure 5B It is a sectional view, in which, Figure 5AThe components of the liquid storage container 2 shown in the component construction diagram are interconnected. The bottle 21 of the liquid storage container 2 includes a bottle welded portion 21a formed at the upper part and a liquid storage portion 21b formed at the lower part. The nozzle 22 includes an outlet 22a through which liquid is discharged, a nozzle threaded portion 22b with an externally threaded structure formed on the outer side, and a nozzle welded portion 22c with a welded surface formed on the inner side or bottom surface. The cap 23, serving as a cover, is configured to be attached to and detached from the nozzle 22, which is the outlet member, and to open and close the outlet 22a. Examples of materials for forming the bottle 21 include polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Examples of materials for forming the nozzle 22 include polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). The nozzle 22 is connected to the bottle 21 by welding the nozzle welded portion 22c to the bottle welded portion 21a. When the bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 are connected by welding to each other, the bottle 21 and the nozzle 22 are preferably made of the same type of material. The nozzle 22 includes a seal 24 with an opening, a valve 25 configured to open and close the opening of the seal 24, a spring 26 configured to bias the valve 25, and a retainer 27 configured to fix the spring 26.

[0026] When supplying liquid from the liquid storage container 2 to the liquid tank 12, the communicating flow channel 122 of the liquid tank 12 is inserted into the opening of the nozzle 22 of the liquid storage container 2. The nozzle 22 of the liquid storage container 2 is provided with a recess that engages with the protrusion 19 of the insertion port 18 of the liquid injection device 1. With the communicating flow channel 122 inserted into the opening of the nozzle 22, the liquid storage container 2 is aligned. Then, the liquid in the liquid storage container 2 is supplied to the storage chamber of the liquid tank body 121 via the communicating flow channel 122 by the head difference.

[0027] The liquid storage container 2 includes two sealable parts (hereinafter referred to as the sealing parts). Figures 6A to 6C This is an explanatory diagram of the sealing part. (For example...) Figure 6A As shown, in the first sealing section, a seal is achieved by fitting the cap 23 to the nozzle 22. Figure 6B As shown, in the second sealing section, sealing is achieved through a valve structure in nozzle 22. The sealing section is described below.

[0028] refer to Figure 6A Describe the first sealing part. Figure 6AThis is a cross-sectional view of the upper part of the liquid storage container 2 with the cap 23 attached to the nozzle 22, and an enlarged view of the upper part is also shown. The first sealing part is the portion where the cap sealing part 23b of the cap 23 is fitted to the nozzle sealing part 22d, which is part of the outlet 22a of the nozzle 22, by attaching the cap 23 to the nozzle 22. As an example of a method of attaching the cap 23 to the nozzle 22, there is a method of screwing the cap 23 onto the nozzle 22. Specifically, as... Figure 5A , Figure 5B and Figure 6A As shown, there is a method to screw the cap 23 onto the nozzle 22 by using a nozzle threaded portion 22b with an external thread structure formed on the outside of the nozzle 22 and a cap threaded portion 23a with an internal thread structure formed on the inside of the lower part of the cap 23. Conversely, attachment can be achieved by using a cap 23 with an external threaded portion and a nozzle 22 with an internal threaded portion.

[0029] Furthermore, as a method of attaching the cap 23 to the nozzle 22, a mating portion other than the sealing portion can be provided instead of a threaded connection. For example, a construction such as an external mating cover that fits the cap 23 to the outside of the nozzle 22 or an internal mating cover that fits the cap 23 to the inside of the nozzle 22 can be used.

[0030] refer to Figure 6B Describe the second sealing section. Figure 6B This is a cross-sectional view of the upper part of the liquid storage container 2 without the cap 23 attached, and an enlarged view of the upper part is also shown. The second sealing part is part of the liquid shut-off valve structure (valve structure) arranged inside the nozzle 22 of the liquid storage container 2. Figure 6B As shown, a seal 24, serving as an orifice, is arranged at the front end (upper end) of the nozzle 22. This seal has an opening through which a flow channel 122 is inserted. Then, a valve 25, acting as a liquid shut-off valve, is biased toward the opening by a spring 26, thus closing the gap between the seal 24 and the valve 25 and sealing the liquid storage container 2. In this embodiment, the spring 26 is used as the biasing mechanism, and a retainer 27 fixed within the internal space of the nozzle 22 holds the spring 26. The seal 24 is formed of a flexible member made of rubber, elastomer, or the like.

[0031] Because the valve 25 is biased toward the opening of the seal 24 by the spring 26, the liquid shut-off valve structure can maintain the interior of the liquid storage container 2 in a sealed state with the cap 23 removed from the nozzle 22. When supplying liquid from the liquid storage container 2 to the liquid tank 12, the connecting flow channel 122 is inserted into the nozzle 22 through the opening of the seal 24, thereby opening the valve 25. Then, as described above, the liquid in the liquid storage container 2 is supplied to the storage chamber of the liquid tank body 121 via the connecting flow channel 122 by the head difference.

[0032] In this embodiment, the two sealing portions are configured to be temporarily and simultaneously opened when the cap is opened (removing the cap 23 from the nozzle 22) and when the cap is closed (attaching the cap 23 to the nozzle 22). This configuration allows the interior of the liquid storage container 2 to communicate with the atmosphere and enables the pressure inside the liquid storage container 2 to be equal to the external air pressure. Details are described below.

[0033] like Figure 6A As shown, with cap 23 closed, the first sealing portion is in a sealed state. Simultaneously, in the second sealing portion, the protrusion 23f arranged in cap 23 is pushed in the opposite direction to the bias direction of valve 25 as cap 23 closes, thereby creating a gap between seal 24 and valve 25. As described above, in Figure 6A In the case of cap 23 being closed, the first sealing part is sealed, while the second sealing part is open.

[0034] Figure 6C It is from Figure 6A The diagram shows a cross-sectional view of the upper part of the liquid storage container 2 with the cap 23 attached to the nozzle 22 and the cap 23 open. An enlarged view of the upper part is also shown. The cap 23 is... Figure 6A The closed state is shown as follows Figure 6C As shown, the cap moves upward as it opens. With this movement of the cap 23, the cap sealing portion 23b and the nozzle sealing portion 22d separate from each other, and the first sealing portion is opened. When the first sealing portion is opened, the protrusion 23f arranged in the cap 23 remains in the position of the protrusion 23f pushing the valve 25, as... Figure 6C As shown. Specifically, the second sealing portion remains open. Therefore, as Figure 6C As shown, when the first sealing part is opened, the second sealing part and the first sealing part can be opened simultaneously. Then, when the cap 23 is moved further upward, as the cap 23 moves, the protrusion 23f completely separates from the valve 25, as... Figure 6BAs shown, the second sealing portion is sealed. Note that when cap 23 is closed from the open state, the protrusion 23f of cap 23 also pushes valve 25 along with the movement of cap 23, and the second sealing portion is opened. In this case, since the first sealing portion is in the pre-sealing state, the first sealing portion remains open. Then, setting cap 23 to the closed state will set the first sealing portion to the sealed state. Note that the simultaneous opening of the first and second sealing portions means that the first and second sealing portions are opened substantially simultaneously. In the case where the opening of the first sealing portion causes the second sealing portion to open in conjunction, this means that both sealing portions are opened simultaneously.

[0035] Because the above-described structure temporarily sets both the first and second sealing portions to an open state when the cap 23 is opened, this structure allows the interior of the liquid storage container 2 to communicate with the atmosphere and enables the pressure inside the liquid storage container 2 to be equal to the external air pressure. Therefore, when the cap 23 is opened and liquid is added from the liquid storage container 2 to the liquid tank body 121, liquid ejection caused by an increase in internal pressure of the liquid storage container 2 can be suppressed. Furthermore, liquid overflow from the liquid tank body 121 can be prevented. In addition, since the second sealing portion keeps the interior of the liquid storage container 2 sealed after the cap 23 is opened, liquid leakage can be suppressed even if the liquid storage container 2 is inverted.

[0036] As for the sealing methods of the two sealing parts mentioned above, there are methods that achieve sealing by pressing a rigid material and a flexible material (such as rubber or elastomer) against each other, and methods that achieve sealing by fitting rigid materials together.

[0037] In this embodiment, a method is employed in which the nozzle 22 and cap 23 in the first sealing portion are made of a rigid material such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP), and these components are configured to mate with each other. In the first sealing portion, two components made of the same material can mate to contact each other, or two components with different physical properties can contact each other. A flexible material such as rubber or an elastomer is used as the material for forming the seal 24 in the second sealing portion. A rigid material such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) is used as the material for forming the valve 25 in the second sealing portion. A sealing method is then employed by pressing the seal 24 and the valve 25 against each other to achieve a seal.

[0038] Figure 7 This is a view of another sealing method used for the first sealing portion. (See image.) Figure 7 As shown, the first sealing part can be achieved by using a flexible material 23e in one of the nozzles 22 or the cap 23, and by pressing the flexible material 23e against another component.

[0039] Figure 8 This is a view of another sealing method used for the second sealing portion. (See image.) Figure 8 As shown, the second sealing part can be achieved by using a flexible material 24c in the valve 25, and sealing is achieved by pressing the material 24c against the nozzle 22 which uses a rigid material.

[0040] Figures 9A to 9C This is a view of various types of protrusions 23f configured to form a push valve 25. The shape of the protrusions 23f arranged in the cap 23 and configured to form the push valve 25 is preferably such that the distal end of the protrusion forms a surface extending in a direction perpendicular to the direction of movement of the valve 25, and can push the valve 25 without tilting it. For example, the protrusions 23f can have a cylindrical shape (e.g., as shown in the image). Figure 9A The cylindrical or conical shape shown) or polygonal shape (e.g., as shown) Figure 9B (The shape shown is a polygonal prism or polygonal pyramid).

[0041] In addition, such as Figure 9C As shown, a flexible material 23g can be used in the distal end of the protrusion 23f. Using the flexible material 23g can suppress the deformation of the valve 25 when the protrusion 23f is in contact with the valve 25.

[0042] Materials such as stainless steel (SUS) can be used to form the spring 26. Materials such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) can be used to form the retainer 27. As a method for fixing the retainer 27 to the nozzle 22, it is preferable to form the retainer 27 and the nozzle 22 using the same material and weld the retainer 27 and the nozzle 22 to each other.

[0043] As described above, in this embodiment, when the cap 23 is opened and closed, the valve 25 is opened by the protrusion 23f of the cap 23 while the cap 23 and the nozzle 22 are not sealed. Specifically, the first sealing part and the second sealing part are temporarily opened simultaneously. Therefore, the interior of the liquid storage container 2 can be connected to the atmosphere, and the pressure inside the liquid storage container 2 can be made equal to the external air pressure. This can suppress the overflow of the liquid tank 12 caused by liquid ejection when liquid is replenished from the liquid storage container 2 to the liquid tank 12. Moreover, liquid ejection that may occur when the liquid storage container 2 is tilted can be suppressed.

[0044] <<Second Embodiment>>

[0045] In the first embodiment, an example of releasing pressure within the liquid storage container 2 by employing a configuration that temporarily opens both sealing portions simultaneously when the cap 23 is opened and closed is described. Simultaneous opening of both sealing portions can suppress the occurrence of liquid ejection from the liquid storage container 2. However, simultaneous opening of both sealing portions can sometimes cause droplets of liquid within the liquid storage container 2 to eject. In this embodiment, an example of suppressing the occurrence of liquid within the liquid storage container 2 becoming droplets and scattering outside the container is described. The basic construction of the liquid storage container 2 is the same as in the first embodiment, and its description is omitted.

[0046] Figures 10A to 10C This is an explanatory diagram of the liquid storage container 2 in this embodiment. Figure 10A This is a cross-sectional view of the upper part of the liquid storage container 2 with the cap 23 attached to the nozzle 22. As described in the first embodiment, the interior of the liquid storage container 2 is sealed by fitting the cap sealing portion 23b of the cap 23 onto the nozzle sealing portion 22d of the nozzle 22. The cap sealing portion 23b is rib-shaped, and the interior of the liquid storage container 2 is kept sealed through the contact between the nozzle sealing portion 22d and the cap sealing portion 23b, which serves as a rib. The rib forming the cap sealing portion 23b only needs to contact the entire periphery of the nozzle sealing portion 22d and can have any shape. When a threaded shape is used as the method of attaching the cap 23 to the nozzle 22, the shape of the rib is preferably circular. Note that the portion of the cap sealing portion 23b that contacts the nozzle sealing portion 22d can be located on the inner side, outer side, or top surface of the nozzle sealing portion 22d. The cap sealing portion 23b can contact the nozzle sealing portion 22d at multiple locations simultaneously.

[0047] In this embodiment, polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) is used as the material for the cap 23 and the nozzle 22. The same material or a combination of different materials can be used. Specifically, in the contact portion, two components with different physical properties can come into contact with each other, or two components made of the same material can come into contact with each other. When assembling the cap 23 and nozzle 22 at high speed, it is preferable to use different materials.

[0048] When the seal is released when the external air pressure is lower than the pressure inside the sealed space of the liquid storage container 2, the gas and liquid contained inside the liquid storage container 2 are guided to the outside. In this embodiment, as... Figure 10A As shown, the cap 23 includes a rib 23c. In the plan view of the cap 23, the rib 23c is disposed outside the sealing portion (first sealing portion) formed by the cap sealing portion 23b and the nozzle sealing portion 22d, as shown. Figure 10AAs shown, rib 23c is configured to surround the entire periphery of the sealing portion in cap 23. In this embodiment, when cap 23 is opened, the distal end of rib 23c of cap 23 is positioned below the mating position between the cap sealing portion 23b of cap 23 and the nozzle sealing portion 22d of nozzle 22. Therefore, rib 23c acts as a wall to block liquid droplets generated when cap 23 is opened, and can prevent droplets from being guided to the outside of cap.

[0049] Figure 10B yes Figure 10A An enlarged view shows the nozzle 22, which includes a wall 22e projecting toward the cap 23. The wall 22e is positioned outside the rib 23c of the cap 23, surrounding the entire periphery of the rib 23c. Furthermore, the nozzle 22 has a groove 22f at the lower end of the wall 22e. This configuration allows droplets that have scattered across the rib 23c to collide with the wall 22e and accumulate in the groove 22f. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the scattering of droplets to the outside of the liquid storage container 2.

[0050] Figure 10C This is another example view of Hat 23. (As shown) Figure 10C As shown, the rib 23c of the cap 23 can contact the nozzle 22. The distal end of the rib 23c extends to a length greater than... Figure 10A and Figure 10B The construction closer to the storage section (bottle 21) increases the range over which the rib 23c receives microdroplets. Furthermore, the distal end of the rib 23c of the cap 23 serves as a reference position for the cap 23 relative to the nozzle 22.

[0051] As described above, according to this embodiment, liquid droplets in the liquid storage container 2 can be prevented from scattering to the outside when the cap 23 is opened to remove it from the nozzle 22.

[0052] <<Other Embodiments>>

[0053] Although the first embodiment describes an example of the liquid storage container 2 including two sealing portions, a first sealing portion and a second sealing portion, the liquid storage container 2 may also include three or more sealing portions. For example, the cap 23 may be an outer mating cap that fits on the outside of the nozzle 22 and an inner mating cap that fits on the inside of the nozzle 22. In either case, the liquid storage container 2 only needs to be configured such that each sealing portion is opened simultaneously when the cap 23 is opened and closed.

[0054] In the second embodiment, an example of the liquid storage container 2 based on the one described in the first embodiment is described. Specifically, a liquid storage container 2 including a first sealing portion and a second sealing portion is described as an example. However, the liquid storage container 2 may be a liquid storage container that does not include the second sealing portion.

[0055] Although the above embodiments describe an example of replenishing liquid to the liquid tank of a liquid injection device using a liquid storage container, the liquid storage container can also be any container used to replenish liquid to the liquid tank of any device. Furthermore, although an example of using ink as the liquid stored in the liquid storage container is described, the liquid storage container can store any kind of liquid.
