Abstract

This invention provides a cutting tool assembly with a hydraulically driven oscillating cutterhead and a corresponding tunneling machine. The assembly includes a front housing with several horizontally oriented shaft holes in the middle. A main shaft is inserted into these shaft holes. External splines are axially arranged on the outer periphery of both the front and rear ends of the main shaft. A three-ring drive arm is fitted around the external spline groove at the rear end of the main shaft. A first connecting rod and a second connecting rod are hinged to the two ends of the three-ring drive arm, respectively. A first hydraulic cylinder and a second hydraulic cylinder are positioned above the first connecting rod. The fixed ends of both cylinders are hinged to the front housing, and their free ends are hinged to the first connecting rod. A third hydraulic cylinder and a fourth hydraulic cylinder are positioned below the second connecting rod. The fixed ends of both cylinders are hinged to the front housing, and their free ends are hinged to the second connecting rod. The front end of the main shaft is inserted into the cutterhead. Using this invention, rectangular cross-sections with any aspect ratio can be cut without any dead angles.
