Surgical retractor device

Abstract

The invention relates to a surgical retractor device comprising a housing (7), a first pressure arm (2) pivotably coupled to the housing and a second pressure arm (3) pivotably coupled to the housing, said first and second arms having a rotational movement in a first plane. Each pressure arm comprises a clamping member (4a, 4b) at an outer end of each pressure arm pivoting around an axis at right angles to the first plane, and an attachment means at an inner end of the arm, wherein said housing comprises an opening and closing mechanism. The housing (7) comprises an opening and closing mechanism (6) comprising rotatable first and second pressure arm attachment structures (10a, 10b) for attaching the attachment means (5a, 5b) of said pressure arms to said housing (7), said pressure arm attachment structures (10a, 10b) being symmetrically positioned at a distance from a centre line of said surgical retractor device, and rotatable first and second handle attachment structures (13a, 13b) and a transmission mechanism for transmitting rotation from said first and second handle attachment structures (13a, 13b) to said first and second pressure arm attachment structures (10a, 10b). The device further comprises first and second handles (8, 9) for operating the opening and closing mechanism (6). The first and second handles (8, 9) comprise handle attachment means (14a, 14b) at an inner end of the handles for attaching said handles to the first and second handle attachment structures (13a, 13b), respectively, and handle structures operable by a user. The first and second handles (8, 9) have a rotational movement in the first plane and are symmetrically positioned at a distance from a centre line of the surgical retractor device (1).
