Hardware accelerated database sorting in solid state storage drives

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a system of storage devices and related methods. In the system and methods, a sort command is received from a host. In response to receiving the sort command, the storage devices are configured to sort by allocating at least one storage location based on at least a) an amount of data to be sorted and b) available storage space in a memory of the storage devices. In the system and methods, a sortable data subset is generated using a scalable sorting algorithm and the sorted serialized data subset is stored based on the at least one storage location indicative of where the data to be sorted is to be stored. A page identifier (ID) of the sorted data subset is provided to the host.
