Abstract

The present disclosure relates to an energy autonomous battery-less system for smart irrigation. An irrigation system includes a first valve fluidly coupled between an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe, and a second valve fluidly coupled between the inlet pipe and a power harvester. In response to fluid flow through the power harvester, the power harvester generates electrical power at a power output. An energy storage unit is coupled to the power output to store the generated voltage. A comparison circuit compares the generated voltage to a threshold. When the generated voltage is less than the threshold, a control circuit causes the second valve to allow fluid flow through the second valve, thereby causing electrical power to be generated by the power harvester when the generated voltage is less than the threshold. When the generated voltage is at least equal to the threshold, the comparison circuit causes the second valve to prevent fluid flow, thereby terminating electrical power generation by the power harvester when the generated voltage is at least equal to the threshold.
