Detailed Implementation

[0044] Preferred features of the invention will now be described with particular reference to the accompanying drawings. However, it should be understood that the features shown and described with reference to the drawings should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention. In describing various embodiments of the invention, similar features will be referred to using similar reference numerals, wherein the reference numerals for each embodiment are typically preceded by 1, 2, 3, or followed by a Roman numeral sequence such as i, ii, iii, etc., or a letter sequence such as a, b, c, etc., relative to the corresponding feature of the first embodiment. For example, feature 10 of the first embodiment may be represented as 110, 210, 310 (or n10), or 10a, 10b, 10c (or 10x), or 10i, 10ii, 10iii (or 10r), etc., in the second, third, and fourth embodiments, respectively.

[0045] Figure 1A multi-axis door hinge system 1 for a secure container 5 (such as a safe) is shown. The multi-axis door hinge system 1 includes a door 20, a container frame defining a door frame 10, and a door hinge 30. The door hinge 30 is adapted to hinge the door 20 such that the door 20 is supported at a first side 11a of the door frame 10. In some embodiments, the first side 11a of the door frame 10 is substantially positioned opposite a second side 11b of the door frame 10. (Refer to...) Figure 14 It can be said that the door hinge device 1 has a door frame area 12, which is defined as a three-dimensional space between the surrounding peripheral sides of the door frame 10, the peripheral sides including a top 12c, a bottom 12d, a first side 12a, a second side 12b, a front portion 12e, and a rear portion 12f.

[0046] The multi-axis hinge 30 includes at least a first hinge axis 31i and a second hinge axis 31ii. In a preferred embodiment, the first hinge axis 31i and the second hinge axis 31ii are coaxial with each other. At least one of the first hinge axis 31i and the second hinge axis 31ii is located externally (e.g., outside the door frame 10) and is located on or adjacent to a first side 11a of the door frame 10. The door 20 is adapted to swing outward about the door hinge 30 and away from a second side 11b of the door frame 10 toward a fully open position (see [link to door hinge 30]). Figure 10 As will be described below, the multi-axis hinge 30 has a first hinge group and a second hinge group. The first hinge group includes at least one or more hinges 32ai, 32bi disposed along a first hinge axis 31i and mounted to or adjacent to the outward-facing side of the door frame 10. The second hinge group includes one or more hinges 32aii, 32bii disposed along a second hinge axis 31ii. The second hinge groups 32aii, 32bii are operatively mounted to the inside of the door 20 such that the door 20 is rotatable about the second hinge axis 31ii. In a preferred embodiment, the second hinge groups 32aii, 32bii are operatively coupled to the first hinge groups 32ai, 32bi such that the second hinge groups 32aii, 32bii are also rotatable about the first hinge axis 31i. This configuration allows the door 20 to move laterally relative to the door frame 10 (when the door is rotating about the second hinge axis 31ii) and to move a larger range of rotational movement (when the door 20 and the second hinge group 32aii, 32bii are rotating about the first hinge axis 31i).

[0047] Hinge 30 includes an upper hinge 32a and a lower hinge 32b. Each of the upper hinge 32a and lower hinge 32b includes a first hinge group 32ai, 32bi and a second hinge group 32aii, 32bii. The first hinge groups 32ai, 32bi are aligned with the first hinge axis 31i, and the second hinge groups 32aii, 32bii are aligned with the second hinge axis 31ii. The second hinge groups 32aii, 32bii are connected to each other by an elongated hinge connecting member 33 in the form of a rod 33. The hinge connecting member 33 extends through the second hinge axis 31i between the second hinge 32aii of the upper hinge 32a and the second hinge 32bii of the lower hinge 32b. The hinge connecting member 33 is accommodated in two plate members 33a, 33b located at the upper and lower ends of the hinge connecting member 33 and adjacent to the upper hinge 32a and lower hinge 32b, respectively. In some embodiments, the hinge connection member 33 forms part of the second hinge 32aii of the upper hinge 32a and the second hinge 32bii of the lower hinge 32b.

[0048] In a preferred embodiment, the upper hinge 32ai and the lower hinge 32bi are adapted to extend through holes 34a and 34b in the door 20 to connect with corresponding hinges 32aii and 32bii on the inside of the door 20. In some embodiments, the upper hinge 32a and the lower hinge 32b are not attached to or fixed to holes 34a and 34b, but a portion of each of the upper hinge 32a and the lower hinge 32b is adapted to move relative to holes 34a and 34b within holes 34a and 34b.

[0049] The first hinge assembly 32ai, 32bi is mounted to the outside of the door frame 10, thus the first hinge assembly 32ai, 32bi is located outside the container cavity. This allows the door 20 to pivot about the first hinge assembly 32ai, 32bi through the open arc 24 (see...). Figure 10 In some embodiments, door 20 can be opened more than 180 degrees between the closed position and the fully swing-open position. o In the closed position, door 20 contacts door frame 10. In the fully open position, the outer surface of door 20 swings outwards to be completely outside the door frame area 12. The wide swing range of door 20 provides improved clearance for entry into the stable space 2 through the door frame area 12.

[0050] Since hinge 30 is a multi-axis hinge, it is also adapted to allow the second hinge axis 31ii to rotate about the first hinge axis 31i. Therefore, door 20 is adapted to move laterally relative to door frame 10. (Refer again) Figure 13 Door 20 is adapted to be in an unlocked position where its far edge 52 does not overlap with the door frame 10 (e.g., Figure 12 (As shown) Move to the locking position where the far edge 52 of door 20 overlaps with the door frame 10 (as shown) Figure 9(As shown). Due to the mounting position of the hinge 30 relative to the door 20 and the door frame 10, the hinge edge 25 of the door 20 is adapted to overlap with the hinge side of the door frame 12a in both the locked and unlocked positions of the door 20. The door 20 is adapted to overlap with the door frame 10 on the inner (second side) 13a of the door frame 10 facing the stable space 2.

[0051] In a preferred embodiment, the door and door hinge assembly 1 further includes a locking mechanism 40. The locking mechanism 40 is adapted to lock the door 20 to the door frame 10 and to cause the door 20 to move relative to the door frame 10. The locking mechanism 40 includes a handle 42 mounted on the outside of the door 20. The handle 42 is connected to a rotating mechanism 46 on the inside of the door 20. The locking mechanism 40 also includes an arm 44 attached to the rotating mechanism 46 and the hinge connection member 33.

[0052] In one embodiment, arm 44 includes a first member 44a and a second member 44b. The first member 44a is attached to the rotating member 46 via an eccentric pivot connection 43. The second member 44b is attached to the first member 44a via a second pivot connection 45, and the other end of the second member 44b is fixed to the hinge connection member 33. The locking mechanism 40 is configured such that when the handle 42 is rotated, the locking latch 47 (schematically shown) engages. Figure 6 (In the middle) The door is locked to the door frame or door side panel 10. A device for a safe 5 is shown and described in document WO2017143385, in which the applicant exemplifies an effective locking latch device suitable for the present invention, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Furthermore, when the handle 42 is rotated, the rotating member 46 rotates to push or pull the first member 44a away from or toward the hinge connecting member 33, thereby causing the second pivot connecting portion 45 to reciprocate and rotate about the second member 44b. Thus, longitudinal movement in a direction generally parallel to the longitudinal axis 44c of the first member of the arm 44 causes the hinge connecting member 33 to rotate, thereby causing the door 20 to move laterally relative to the door side panel 10 (door frame). The hinge connecting member 33 is fixed to the first and second hinges of the upper hinges 32ai / 32aii and the lower hinges 32bi / 32bii, and rotates with the plate members 33a, 33b.
