The invention relates to the technical field of lamp illumination intensity control, in particular to an illumination intensity control device for a lamp and a control method thereof.The illumination intensity control device comprises an ambient light sensor, a signal processing module, a brightness adjustment driving module, a user interface module, a battery supply module, a communication module and a light source device; the ambient light sensor detects the illumination intensity of the ambient environment in real time, the signal processing module receives a signal from the ambient light sensor, the brightness adjustment driving module adjusts the brightness of the light source device according to a control signal output by the signal processing module, and the user interface module provides an interactive interface for a user. A user is allowed to manually set a brightness range, sensitivity or an automatic switch adjusting function; the battery supply module provides a stable power supply for the whole control device; the communication module is used for realizing remote control and adjustment, and the communication module is connected with a smart home platform, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the like; a light emitting source of the light source device is an LED light source.
