Dimming device angle uniformity correction

Abstract

Techniques are described for operating an optical system and for reducing angular transmittance variations in operation of a segmented dimmer by applying a voltage to pixels of the segmented dimmer, the voltage being different from a voltage nominally used to achieve a particular transmittance level, such as for on-axis transmission of light. The voltages applied to the pixels of the segmented dimmer may be selected so as to achieve a target observed transmittance level using a set of pre-configured and / or calibration voltages that account for the angular dependency of the transmittance of the dimmer.
