Abstract

This invention provides a red mud-based composite catalyst for degrading VOCs in asphalt and its application, belonging to the technical field of industrial solid waste resource utilization and environmental modification of road asphalt. The red mud-based composite catalyst is composed of surface alkaline porous red mud and transition metal oxides. By total mass, surface alkaline porous red mud accounts for 90-95%, and transition metal oxides account for 5-10%. Its nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm exhibits type IV characteristics and forms an H3-type hysteresis loop, possessing a slit-like mesoporous structure, which can provide sufficient adsorption sites and diffusion channels for asphalt VOCs. When applied to asphalt, the red mud-based composite catalyst can effectively improve the physical properties of asphalt, significantly inhibit various VOC components such as alkanes and ketones, greatly reduce the total VOC release, and achieve efficient degradation of asphalt VOCs. It is suitable for asphalt VOCs treatment and performance optimization of asphalt used in road engineering.
