AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In existing naphthalene alkylation reactions, naphthalene is prone to sublimation, which can cause blockages in the naphthalene tower top cooler, reflux tank, and tail gas emission pipeline, affecting the stability and safety of the equipment.

Method used

By mixing inert hydrocarbons with the naphthalene alkylation reaction products and then feeding them into a separation tower, naphthalene and inert hydrocarbons are separated using side-extraction technology, thus avoiding clogging problems and recycling naphthalene.

Benefits of technology

It improved the stability and safety of the naphthalene alkylation reactor, significantly reduced energy consumption, and enabled the reactor to operate stably for more than 8,000 hours.

Abstract

This invention provides a method and system for separating naphthalene from naphthalene alkylation reaction products. The method comprises (1) mixing stream I containing naphthalene and naphthalene alkylation reaction products with stream II containing inert hydrocarbons to obtain mixture stream III; the inert hydrocarbons preferably include C6-C8 alkanes; and (2) separating stream III to obtain stream IV containing inert hydrocarbons, stream V containing naphthalene, and the naphthalene alkylation reaction products. The method and system of this invention can effectively recover and reuse naphthalene from the naphthalene alkylation reaction products, avoid pipeline blockage in the naphthalene recovery system, and improve the stability and safety of the naphthalene alkylation reaction apparatus.
