A method of probing a circuit breaker electrically connected to a power line comprises injecting a first signal at a first point of the power line, having a predefined frequency content and frequency band and being injected during an injection time interval having a predefined duration, detecting a second signal at a second point of the power line during a detection time interval at least partially comprising the injection time interval, processing a first portion of the second signal to compute a first signal value, the first portion referring to a first portion of the detection time interval during which the first signal is injected, the first signal value being indicative of a signal power in the frequency band of the first signal during the first portion, processing a second portion of the second signal to compute a second signal value, the second portion referring to a second portion of the detection time interval during which the first signal is not injected, the second signal value being indicative of a signal power in the frequency band of the first signal during the second portion.
