Abstract

This disclosure describes novel R2 retrotransposons discovered in avian species. Two of them, from the New Caledonian raven (Corvus moneduloides) and the goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), designated R2Cm and R2Ag respectively, exhibit excellent retrotransposon activity in human cells. These novel retrotransposons and their engineered versions are suitable for targeted gene delivery.
