Abstract
This invention provides a composite laser welding apparatus and method for SiC particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites. The apparatus includes a laser generating unit, a magnetic field generating unit, and an ultrasonic amplitude transformer. The laser generating unit generates and aligns a laser beam with the butt joint of the workpiece to be welded. The magnetic field generating unit includes a first excitation component and a second excitation component positioned in front of the laser beam along the welding direction and on both sides of the workpiece to be welded. The first and second excitation components generate an alternating composite magnetic field in the weld pool region. The ultrasonic amplitude transformer is positioned on one side of the workpiece to be welded and applies high-frequency ultrasonic waves to the weld pool. The first excitation component is integrated into the ultrasonic amplitude transformer. This invention applies a near-X-shaped alternating magnetic field and ultrasonic energy field to a near-X-shaped weld pool, achieving better mass transfer in the liquid weld pool, reducing the dispersion of microstructure and properties in the laser-welded joint of SiC particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites, and improving the overall mechanical properties of the joint.
