Locking device for operating a wire guide device

Abstract

This invention relates to a locking device and method for a two-step locking operation, wherein, firstly, a rotatable connector pin of the proximal connector of a lead assembly is inserted into a first cavity of a first portion of the locking device, and a moderate (excessive) torque is applied to the connector pin by means of the locking device to extend the distal retaining spiral of the lead assembly. Then, a very simple locking posture (e.g., a sliding or pressing posture) is applied to lock the rotatably coupled second portion of the locking device into the connector body within a second cavity of the second portion of the locking device, without any release of the moderate torque initially applied to the connector pin. This allows a physician or other user to apply and maintain moderate (excessive) torque at the connector pin after spiral extension, while rotating / rotating the lead body via the connector end during the puncture procedure.
