Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] This invention relates to a contact lens packaging product, and more particularly to a contact lens packaging product with a leakage detection function. Background Technology
[0002] Daily disposable contact lenses are typically packaged in single-use, first-level sealed packaging to ensure sterility at the time of manufacture and storage stability. Generally, the contact lenses are placed in a container filled with a clear preservative or packaging solution, and then heat-sealed with a sealing film. Before wearing them, users can usually only judge the product's condition by visually inspecting the integrity of the seal.
[0003] However, in practice, during transportation or the unpacking of multiple-pack containers, micro-cracks or poor sealing may occur in the heat-sealed area between the sealing film and the container perimeter. Traditional daily disposable contact lens designs often fail to detect minor leaks or evaporation of contents directly from the appearance, potentially increasing the risk of users misusing expired products.
[0004] On the other hand, to improve wearing comfort, some products add cooling agents and other ingredients to the storage solution. However, these ingredients are usually volatile, and if the packaging is not airtight, the ingredient ratio may change, affecting the original design conditions of the product. Furthermore, existing technologies mostly focus on improving material formulations or lens structures, and there is still a lack of corresponding product packaging designs that provide a visual way to assess the integrity of the packaging without opening it. Therefore, how to provide a packaging product that is visual and objectively defines the conditions while maintaining the existing packaging form is a problem that needs to be improved in related technical fields. [0047] In the following description, if a specific drawing is indicated or shown in a particular drawing, it is only to emphasize that most of the relevant content mentioned in the following description appears in that particular drawing, but does not limit the following description to refer only to that particular drawing.
[0048] like Figures 1 to 4 As shown, this embodiment of the invention provides a contact lens packaging product 100, including a packaging container 110, a sealing film 120, a contact lens 130, and a contact lens storage solution 140. The packaging container 110 has a solution reservoir 111 for containing the contact lens storage solution 140 and the contact lens 130.
[0049] The sealing film 120 covers the solution storage tank 111 and heat-seals the peripheral sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110 to keep the solution storage tank 111 in a sealed state and form an annular heat-sealing ring 115.
[0050] The contact lens 130 is placed in the solution reservoir 111 and immersed in the contact lens storage solution 140. In some embodiments of the present invention, the contact lens storage solution 140 contains at least a cooling agent. In some embodiments, the contact lens storage solution 140 contains at least a color indicator, such that the subsequent leakage inspection area 112, under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral measurement in a leakage state, has at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm (see also...). Figures 10A to 10I ).
[0051] The packaging container 110 has a leakage inspection area 112 around the solution storage tank 111. In this embodiment, the leakage inspection area 112 may be formed by an annular groove 113. The sealing film 120 further covers the annular groove 113 and is heat-sealed with the packaging container 110, wherein the annular heat-sealing ring 115 is positioned corresponding to the annular groove 113. The annular groove 113 and the solution storage tank 111 are isolated from each other when the sealing film 120 and the packaging container 110 are heat-sealed, and form a liquid containment space LSP for the inflow of contact lens storage solution 140 when the sealing film 120 is damaged.
[0052] like Figure 5 and Figure 6As shown, when the sealing film 120 is damaged, the contact lens storage solution 140 can flow from the solution reservoir 111 into the liquid containment space (LSP) formed in the leakage detection area 112. In some embodiments, when the contact lens storage solution 140 contains a color indicator, the inflow liquid in the leakage detection area 112 can exhibit a color and spectral characteristics corresponding to the contact lens storage solution 140.
[0053] With the above configuration, the contact lens packaging product 100 maintains a sealed state when the packaging is intact. When the sealing film 120 is damaged near the heat-sealing interface, the storage liquid 140 can preferentially enter the liquid containment space LSP formed by the leakage inspection area 112. The user can identify the packaging status by the color change or spectral characteristics of the leakage inspection area 112.
[0054] Please continue reading. Figures 1 to 4 As shown, more specifically, the packaging container 110 may be an integrally formed cup-shaped structure used to form the solution storage tank 111.
[0055] The solution reservoir 111 is located in the central region of the packaging container 110 and is recessed downward to form a cavity with volume for accommodating the contact lens storage solution 140 and the contact lens 130. In this embodiment, the solution reservoir 111 may be a cup-shaped structure with a circular cross-section, but its shape may also be elliptical, polygonal, or other shapes suitable for accommodating contact lenses; the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0056] The solution reservoir 111 has a first maximum depth D1, which refers to the vertical distance measured downwards from the upper surface of the packaging container 110 or the plane containing the sealing area 114 to the bottom of the solution reservoir 111. If the bottom of the solution reservoir 111 is a curved or arc-shaped structure, the first maximum depth D1 refers to the vertical distance between the lowest point of the curved surface and the reference plane. In some embodiments, the first maximum depth D1 of the solution reservoir 111 is between 3 mm and 7 mm, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0057] The contact lens storage solution 140 is filled in the solution reservoir 111, and its filling volume can be from 0.5 mL to 1.5 mL, and preferably from 0.8 mL to 1.2 mL.
[0058] The outer periphery of the solution reservoir 111 is connected to the peripheral sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110. The sealing area 114 provides a flat or nearly flat heat-sealing interface for heat sealing with the sealing film 120. The sealing film 120 covers the solution reservoir 111, the leakage inspection area 112, and the sealing area 114, and heat-seales with the packaging container 110, forming the annular heat-sealing ring 115 at the annular groove 113. The annular heat-sealing ring 115 continuously surrounds the circumference of the solution reservoir 111, forming a closed sealing structure to define the sealing boundary of the solution reservoir 111. Alternatively, the annular groove 113 or the annular protrusion 113' described below is formed by heat sealing with the sealing film 120 to create the annular heat-sealing ring 115.
[0059] In some embodiments, the packaging container 110 may be formed of a thermoplastic polymer material, such as polypropylene (PP) or other plastic materials suitable for medical applications. The material possesses sufficient mechanical strength and heat-sealing adaptability to allow the sealing film 120 to form a stable heat-sealed structure with the sealing area 114.
[0060] In some embodiments, the annular heat-sealing ring 115 is formed by heating, pressurizing, or other suitable sealing methods, causing the heat-sealing layer of the sealing film 120 to partially melt and bond with the material of the packaging container 110. The heat-sealing method can be continuous heat sealing or segmented heat sealing.
[0061] In addition to providing a sealing function, the geometric configuration of the annular heat-sealing ring 115 also corresponds to the leakage inspection area 112. When the sealing film 120 is damaged near the annular heat-sealing ring 115, the contact lens storage fluid 140 can flow along the structure near the heat-sealing interface into the liquid containment space LSP formed by the leakage inspection area 112, so that the area exhibits the corresponding color and spectral characteristics.
[0062] The annular heat-sealing ring 115 has a width W1. The width W1 refers to the radial width of the sealing strip defined by the annular groove 113 along the upper surface of the packaging container 110. In this embodiment, the width W1 of the annular heat-sealing ring 115 is between 0.8 mm and 12.0 mm, and preferably between 1.0 mm and 10.0 mm.
[0063] Furthermore, the packaging container 110 forms an annular groove 113 around the solution storage tank 111. The annular groove 113 constitutes the leakage inspection area 112 and extends circumferentially along the solution storage tank 111 to form a closed annular structure.
[0064] The sealing film 120 covers the annular groove 113 and heat-seals the peripheral sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110, forming the annular heat-sealing ring 115. In this embodiment, the annular groove 113 and the annular heat-sealing ring 115 completely overlap or at least partially overlap in the radial direction.
[0065] When the sealing film 120 is damaged, the contact lens storage solution 140 can preferentially flow from the solution reservoir 111 into the leakage inspection area 112 formed by the annular groove 113. Since the leakage inspection area 112 forms a liquid containment space (LSP) in the leakage state, and in some embodiments, the contact lens storage solution 140 contains at least one color indicator, and the color indicator is configured to give the contact lens storage solution 140 a spectral characteristic, namely, at least one characteristic absorption peak with absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 to 600 nm under ultraviolet-visible spectral measurement, after the contact lens storage solution 140 flows into the leakage inspection area 112, this area will exhibit a recognizable color and the aforementioned spectral characteristic.
[0066] The cross-sectional shape of the annular groove 113 is approximately rectangular; however, the present invention is not limited to this, and its cross-sectional shape may also be arc-shaped or other shapes suitable for accommodating the infiltrated liquid.
[0067] The annular groove 113 has a second maximum depth D2, which refers to the vertical distance measured downward from the plane where the upper surface or peripheral sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110 is located to the lowest point of the bottom of the annular groove 113.
[0068] The second maximum depth D2 of the annular groove 113 may be proportional to the first maximum depth D1 of the solution storage tank 111. In some embodiments, the second maximum depth D2 may be 5% to 30% of the first maximum depth D1, preferably 5% to 15%.
[0069] By setting the above-mentioned proportional range, the annular groove 113 can form a structural space sufficient to accommodate the inflowing liquid without significantly affecting the main volume of the solution storage tank 111. If the second maximum depth D2 is less than about 5% of the first maximum depth D1, the annular groove 113 may be difficult to observe for leakage; conversely, if the second maximum depth D2 is more than about 30% of the first maximum depth D1, the annular groove 113 may become close to a secondary storage tank structure, changing the original volume distribution of the packaging container 110.
[0070] From another perspective, the second maximum depth D2 of the annular groove 113 can be defined as an absolute size range. In this embodiment, the second maximum depth D2 may be, for example, between 0.3 mm and 1.5 mm, and preferably between 0.3 mm and 1.2 mm, but is not limited thereto.
[0071] like Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown, the annular heat-sealing ring 115 and the annular groove 113 continuously surround the solution storage tank 111 360 degrees to form a closed annular structure, and are concentrically arranged (i.e., they have a common or approximately geometric center). In the radial direction, the annular groove 113 and the annular heat-sealing ring 115 can completely overlap, at least partially overlap, or be arranged adjacent to each other in planar projection.
[0072] With the above configuration, the leakage inspection area 112 and the annular heat sealing ring 115 form a structurally continuous and corresponding annular region. When the sealing film 120 is damaged near the annular heat sealing ring 115, the contact lens storage fluid 140 can flow along the sealing interface and enter the liquid containment space LSP of the leakage inspection area 112 formed by the annular groove 113, which is conducive to leakage inspection.
[0073] From another perspective, the annular groove 113 is provided on the inner or outer boundary of the sealing area 114 around the packaging container 110, and extends circumferentially along the sealing area 114 to form an annular structure.
[0074] In some embodiments, the annular groove 113 may be formed by a local compression area or embossed area formed during the heat sealing and pressing process of the sealing area 114 of the sealing film 120 and the packaging container 110; in other embodiments, the annular groove 113 may also be a preset recess formed when the packaging container 110 is formed, and form an integral structure with the sealing area 114.
[0075] In some embodiments of the present invention, the annular groove 113 has a width in the radial direction, and the annular heat-sealing ring 115 has a width W1 in the radial direction. The radial width of the annular groove 113 may be 75% to 125% of the width W1 of the annular heat-sealing ring 115, such as about 100%.
[0076] like Figure 5 and Figure 6As shown, when the sealing film 120 is damaged near the sealing interface, a damaged portion 121 is formed. The contact lens storage solution 140 can flow from the solution reservoir 111 along the structure near the sealing interface and into the leakage inspection area 112 formed by the annular groove 113. Since the annular groove 113 and the annular heat-sealing ring 115 have a geometrically corresponding configuration, when the sealing interface is damaged, the storage solution 140 can structurally preferentially enter the liquid containment space LSP formed by the leakage inspection area 112.
[0077] In one embodiment, the contact lens storage solution 140 includes a color indicator that, when it flows into the leakage detection area 112, displays a color and spectral characteristics corresponding to the contact lens storage solution 140. In some embodiments, the color can be identified under natural light or general indoor lighting conditions, but the invention is not limited to a specific observation environment.
[0078] In another embodiment of the present invention, a colorimetric indicator (not shown in the figure, but possibly configured by coating or printing) may be disposed within the leakage detection area 112, so that when the contact lens storage solution 140 flows into the liquid containment space LSP in a leaking state, it comes into contact with the colorimetric indicator and produces a color change. In this case, the leakage detection area 112 can exhibit spectral characteristics under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral measurement, having at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm.
[0079] In some embodiments, the colorimetric indicator may be a pH indicator, a redox indicator, or a combination thereof. For example, the colorimetric indicator may be selected from at least one of the group consisting of bromothymol blue, phenol red, bromocresol violet, methylene blue, resveratrol, anthocyanins, and combinations thereof. When the contact lens storage solution 140 flows into the liquid containment space LSP and comes into contact with the colorimetric indicator, a color change occurs, thereby giving the leakage detection area 112 a recognizable color and the aforementioned spectral characteristics.
[0080] Furthermore, the formation of the damaged portion 121 of the sealing film may be, for example, a tear, crack, pinhole, poorly heat-sealed section, or other structural defects that reduce the sealing performance between the sealing film 120 and the sealing area 114.
[0081] In some embodiments of the invention, the packaging container 110 may be formed of a thermoplastic polymer material to facilitate molding and subsequent heat sealing with the sealing film 120. The packaging container 110 may contain polypropylene (PP); in other embodiments, other polymer materials suitable for medical use may also be used, such as polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or modified forms thereof.
[0082] The sealing film 120 may be a single-layer or multi-layer structure. In some embodiments, the sealing film 120 includes an aluminum foil layer to provide barrier properties and mechanical strength. In a more specific embodiment, the sealing film 120 is a multi-layer composite film including an aluminum foil layer and a heat-sealing resin layer. The heat-sealing resin layer can form a heat-sealed bond with the peripheral sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110, thereby forming the annular heat-sealing ring 115. In some embodiments, the multi-layer composite film may further include a printed layer, a protective layer, or an adhesive layer.
[0083] like Figure 7 As shown, in some embodiments of the present invention, the contact lens packaging product 100 can be a multi-seal package 150. The multi-seal package 150 includes a plurality of interconnected packaging containers 110, each packaging container 110 having a corresponding solution reservoir 111, a leakage inspection area 112, and an annular heat-sealing ring 115.
[0084] Adjacent packaging containers 110 can be connected to each other via connecting portions 151 to form an integrated arrangement. The connecting portion 151 can be a thin bridge structure, a tear-resistant connecting area, or other connecting construction, so that the user can separate a single packaging container 110 from the multi-sealed package 150 as needed.
[0085] In some embodiments, the multi-seal package 150 may be a triple seal, a five-seal seal, or other arrangement; the present invention is not limited to a specific number of seals. Each packaging container 110 has its own independent sealing film 120 and annular heat-sealing ring 115, and can be individually sealed.
[0086] When one of the packaging containers 110 of the multi-sealed package 150 is subjected to uneven stress during disassembly, the area near the annular heat-sealing ring 115 may experience localized stress. In this case, if the sealing film 120 is damaged, the contact lens storage solution 140 may flow into the corresponding leakage inspection area 112. Through the above structural configuration, the structural independence of each unit and the visual interpretation of leakage can still be maintained in the multi-sealed scenario.
[0087] Please see Figures 8A to 8CAs shown, in another embodiment of the present invention, the leakage inspection area 112 may be formed, for example, by an annular protrusion 113', rather than the annular groove 113 in the aforementioned embodiment.
[0088] like Figure 8A and Figure 8B As shown, the annular protrusion 113' continuously surrounds the solution storage tank 111 in a closed annular structure and is disposed between the solution storage tank 111 and the sealing area 114. The annular protrusion 113' is a protruding structure on the surface of the packaging container 110, opposite to the solution storage tank 111. The sealing film 120 covers the packaging container 110 and heat-seals it with the sealing area 114 to form an annular heat-sealed ring 115 at the corresponding position of the annular protrusion 113'.
[0089] In some embodiments, the annular protrusion 113' has a height H, and the height H refers to the vertical distance measured upward from the plane of the upper surface of the packaging container 110 or the sealing area 114 to the top of the annular protrusion 113', and the height H of the annular protrusion 113' may be between 0.1 mm and 1 mm.
[0090] like Figure 8C As shown, when the sealing film 120 is damaged near the annular heat-sealing ring 115, forming a damaged portion 121, the contact lens storage solution 140 can flow from the solution reservoir 111 along the vicinity of the sealing interface and enter the liquid containment space LSP formed between the annular protrusion 113' and the sealing film 120. In the leakage state, the height of the liquid containment space LSP formed between the annular protrusion 113' and the sealing film 120 can be not less than 0.05 mm, preferably not less than 0.1 mm (e.g., 0.1 mm to 3 mm).
[0091] In some embodiments, when the contact lens storage solution 140 contains a color indicator, the liquid containment space LSP can exhibit corresponding color and spectral characteristics. In other embodiments, a colorimetric indicator may be disposed within the liquid containment space LSP or the leakage detection area 112, so that the contact lens storage solution 140 mixes with the colorimetric indicator after flowing in to form the spectral characteristics.
[0092] Furthermore, the contact lens storage solution 140 fills the solution reservoir 111 and soaks the contact lens 130. In some embodiments, the contact lens storage solution 140 contains at least one cooling agent and at least one color indicator, and after flowing into the leakage detection area 112, the leakage detection area 112 has at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy measurement.
[0093] In some embodiments of the present invention, the contact lens storage solution 140 may be a buffered aqueous solution containing borate, phosphate, or a combination thereof to maintain pH and osmotic pressure conditions suitable for ophthalmic use. The buffered aqueous solution may further contain an appropriate amount of electrolyte, such as sodium chloride, to adjust the osmotic pressure. The pH value of the contact lens storage solution 140 may be in the range of 6.5 to 7.8, and the osmotic pressure may be in the range of 260 mOsm / kg to 340 mOsm / kg. The color indicator and cooling agent in the contact lens storage solution 140 are formulated to maintain the above-mentioned pH and osmotic pressure conditions.
[0094] In some embodiments of the present invention, the cooling agent may be one or more terpene compounds, selected from at least one group consisting of menthol, camphor, borneol, pinene, limonene, and citral. For example, the cooling agent comprises menthol.
[0095] Based on the total weight of the contact lens storage solution 140 being 100% by weight, the content of the cooling agent can be from 0.0002% by weight to 0.045% by weight, and is preferably from 0.002% by weight to 0.03% by weight.
[0096] When the content of the cooling agent is less than about 0.0002% by weight, its presence in the contact lens storage solution 140 may be insufficient to provide a cooling effect; when its content is greater than about 0.045% by weight, it may affect the overall formulation balance of the contact lens storage solution 140. In some embodiments, the content of the cooling agent may be further controlled within the range of 0.002% by weight to 0.02% by weight.
[0097] In some embodiments of the present invention, the contact lens storage solution 140 may contain at least one color indicator. The color indicator may be one or a combination of yellow, red, and blue pigments.
[0098] In other embodiments, the color indicator may not be added to the contact lens storage solution 140 beforehand, but the color indicator may be placed in the leakage detection area 112 or the liquid containment space LSP, so that the contact lens storage solution 140 mixes with the color indicator after flowing in to present the characteristic absorption peak.
[0099] The yellow pigment may be selected from at least one of the group consisting of free riboflavin, flavin mononucleotide (FMN), flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), salts of flavin adenine dinucleotide and their derivatives.
[0100] In other embodiments, the red pigment may be selected from at least one of the group consisting of cobalamin, cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, methylcobalamin, and their derivatives.
[0101] In other embodiments, the blue pigment may be selected from at least one of the group consisting of Brilliant Blue FCF, anthocyanin, cyanidin, delphinidin, and their glycosides or metal complexes.
[0102] Based on the total weight of the contact lens storage solution 140 being 100% by weight, the content of the color indicator is between 0.004% by weight and 0.06% by weight, and preferably between 0.004% by weight and 0.055% by weight.
[0103] When the content of the color indicator is less than 0.004% by weight, it is difficult to form a characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy measurement; when its content is greater than 0.06% by weight, it may affect the overall formulation balance or material compatibility of the contact lens storage solution 140.
[0104] In this invention, the concentration range of the color indicator is configured in conjunction with the concentration range of the cooling agent and the conditions of the buffer system, so that the contact lens storage solution 140 has both color rendering ability and formula stability. However, this invention is not limited to a specific single colorant or its combination.
[0105] As described above, the contact lens storage solution 140 is a buffered aqueous solution containing borates, phosphates, or combinations thereof. For example, the buffered aqueous solution may be a borate buffer system containing boric acid, sodium borate, and sodium chloride.
[0106] In some embodiments, the buffer aqueous solution may also be a phosphate buffer system, which may contain sodium monohydrogen phosphate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, and sodium chloride. However, the present invention does not limit the buffer system to a single type; any embodiment of the present invention is included as long as the pH value and osmotic pressure of the contact lens storage solution 140 fall within the aforementioned range.
[0107] In addition, the buffer system can coexist with the cooling agent and color indicator in the contact lens storage solution 140, and maintain the homogeneity and stability of the solution under these conditions.
[0108] Furthermore, in this invention, the leakage detection area 112 allows the contact lens storage solution 140 to flow in when leaking, and the liquid contained in the leakage detection area 112 when leaking has at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. In some embodiments, the characteristic absorption peak may be formed by a color indicator in the contact lens storage solution 140 flowing into the leakage detection area 112; in other embodiments, the characteristic absorption peak may be formed by mixing the contact lens storage solution 140 with a colorimetric indicator disposed in the leakage detection area 112 or the liquid containment space LSP.
[0109] In this embodiment, the absorbance A1 of the characteristic absorption peak can be between 0.5 Abs and 10 Abs, and preferably between 0.5 Abs and 5 Abs. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the characteristic absorption peak can be between 20 nm and 200 nm. The FWHM refers to the wavelength difference corresponding to half the height of the absorption peak at its maximum absorbance.
[0110] In some embodiments, the leakage detection area 112 may have at least two characteristic absorption peaks with absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm when in a leakage state. For example, it may have a first characteristic absorption peak and a second characteristic absorption peak. The wavelength range of the first characteristic absorption peak is lower than that of the second characteristic absorption peak, and the peak height of the first characteristic absorption peak is greater than that of the second characteristic absorption peak (e.g., at least 30% higher). The peak spacing between the two characteristic absorption peaks is not less than 50 nm.
[0111] In this invention, the UV-Vis measurement can be performed under standard cuvette conditions, for example, with an appropriate wavelength scanning range, a fixed optical path length, and an appropriate reference solution.
[0112] In embodiments of the present invention, the color of the contact lens storage solution 140 can also be quantified by a color difference value ΔE to assess whether leakage exists in the packaging. The color difference value ΔE is determined according to CIE L. a b Color space calculation represents the degree of difference between two sets of colors in a three-dimensional color space.
[0113] In this embodiment, the L of the contact lens storage solution 140 can be measured at the initial time point after packaging and at a detection time point, respectively. a b The color difference value ΔE is calculated using the following formula:
[0114] Among them, L Represents the brightness value, a Represents the red and green axis coordinate values, b Represents the coordinate values of the yellow and blue axes; subscripts 1 and 2 represent the measurement results at different time points or in different storage tanks, respectively.
[0115] When the color difference value ΔE is greater than or equal to 2, it indicates that the color of the contact lens storage solution 140 differs identifiable from the baseline state. In some embodiments of the present invention, the condition that ΔE is greater than or equal to 2 can be used as a criterion for determining whether the contact lens packaging product 100 may be leaking.
[0116] In some embodiments, the color difference value ΔE can be obtained by comparing the contact lens storage solution 140 in two adjacent solution reservoirs 111 within the same multi-pack 150. That is, if the color difference value ΔE of the contact lens storage solution 140 in two adjacent packaging containers 110 within the same multi-pack 150 is greater than or equal to 2, it can be determined that leakage may exist.
[0117] The color difference measurement can be performed under standard light source conditions, such as a D65 light source or other standard lighting conditions, and the L value can be obtained using a spectrophotometer or equivalent equipment. a b Numerical value.
[0118] [Example 1: Effects of Cooling Agents on Wearing and TMH Measurement]
[0119] The following describes an embodiment of the present invention to illustrate a representative formulation, preparation process, and wearing evaluation method for a cooling agent in a contact lens storage solution 140, and provides corresponding clinical trial data to explain the design basis and critical significance of the cooling agent concentration range.
[0120] In this embodiment, contact lens storage solutions 140 with different formulations were first prepared according to the control groups A1 and A2 and experimental groups B1-B6 listed in Table 1. Borate buffer solution was used as the base solution (Bal. indicates the balance is made up to 100% by weight), and different amounts of cooling agents (represented by menthol) and color indicators were added. In this embodiment, red pigments (such as cyanocobalamin) and yellow pigments (such as flavin adenine dinucleotide) were used as representatives. Subsequently, multiple soft contact lenses 130 were placed into the solution reservoir 111 of the packaging container 110, filled with the corresponding formulation of contact lens storage solution 140, and then covered with a sealing film 120 and heat-sealed in the periphery sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110 to form a ring-shaped heat-sealing ring 115 to complete the packaging. Afterwards, a moist heat sterilization treatment (e.g., 125°C, 30 minutes) was performed to complete the sample of the contact lens packaging product 100.
[0121] Clinical trial assessments were conducted with subjects wearing the aforementioned samples. Measurements and scores were performed at two stages: the Initial stage (within 10 minutes of wearing) and the Follow-up stage (6 to 8 hours of continuous wearing). TMH (Tear Meniscus Height) was measured using a corneal topography instrument (e.g., OCULUS Keratograph 5M) to capture images of the lower eyelid. The instrument software calculated the TMH at three measurement points and averaged the results (a higher TMH indicates a higher tear meniscus height). Subjective ratings included: Comfort (1-10 points, higher is better), Cooling acceptance (1-10 points, higher is better), and Cooling irritation (1-10 points, higher is worse, indicating excessive coolness or irritation). The results are shown in Table 2.
[0122] As shown in Table 2, compared to the control groups A1 and A2 without added cooling agents, the experimental groups B1-B4 with added menthol exhibited higher TMH values in both the Initial and Follow-up phases. However, when the menthol content increased to 0.020% by weight or higher (e.g., B4 and B5), the cooling irritation score significantly increased, accompanied by a decrease in comfort during the Initial phase. Therefore, the content of the cooling agent can be selected from 0.0002% to 0.045% by weight, and preferably from 0.002% to 0.03% by weight. In a more specific context, the area around 0.020% by weight can be considered as the critical range for formulation design to balance the configuration requirements of the wear assessment indicators, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0123] In addition, the concentration of menthol in the formulation can serve as one of the design bases when it is co-formulated with color indicators, as it is a cooling agent that can be associated with cold receptors (such as TRPM8).

[0127]
[0128] [Example 2: Coolant Loss Ratio and Bacterial Detection under Simulated Packaging Damage]
[0129] The following describes an embodiment of the present invention to illustrate the potential loss of a cooling agent (e.g., menthol) in the contact lens storage solution 140 when the seal of the sealing film 120 is compromised, and the results of bacterial detection under altered packaging conditions. This embodiment is for illustrative purposes only and is not intended to limit the scope of the invention.
[0130] In this embodiment, formulation groups B3 and B6 from the aforementioned embodiments were selected as representative samples (B3 contains 0.010% wt% menthol, B6 contains 0.040% wt% menthol, and other components can be found in Table 1). After sealing and encapsulating the samples using packaging container 110, solution storage tank 111, sealing film 120, and annular heat-sealing ring 115, two scenarios of encapsulation failure were simulated: (i) "Severe leakage" scenario: the sealing edge of the sealing film 120 opens by more than 50% circumferentially, forming a noticeable opening to expose the contact lens storage solution 140; (ii) "Slight leakage" scenario: poor heat sealing or minor defects form locally on the annular heat-sealing ring 115, reducing the sealing performance between the sealing film 120 and the peripheral sealing area 114. The test time for the above two scenarios in this embodiment was 1 hour; a control group of "complete encapsulation" was also set as a comparison benchmark.
[0131] The loss ratio of the cooling agent can be calculated by comparing the difference in cooling agent content before and after the test; in some embodiments, the residual amount of menthol can be measured and the loss ratio calculated using gas chromatography-related analysis methods (e.g., GC-MS or GC-FID). Microbial detection involves culturing and observing samples obtained under corresponding packaging conditions to determine whether microbial colonies have grown. The results are summarized in Table 3.
[0132] As shown in Table 3, in the control group with complete sealing, the loss rate of cooling agents B3 and B6 was 0%, and the bacterial count was sterile. In the case of severe leakage, the loss rate of B3 was 54%, and the loss rate of B6 was 38%, and both showed bacterial growth. In the case of minor leakage, the loss rate of B3 was 17%, and the loss rate of B6 was 2%, and bacterial growth was also observed. These results indicate that changes in the sealing state of the sealing film 120 may be accompanied by not only the loss of cooling agents but also the risk of microbial contamination.
[0133] Therefore, the present invention provides a leakage inspection area 112 in the packaging container 110, and makes it form a liquid containment space LSP in the leakage state. It can be used with the contact lens storage solution 140 containing a color indicator to provide a structure that can identify the packaging state in a visual or spectral manner without opening the package, thereby reducing the risk of user misuse.
[0134] [Table 3] The proportion of cooling agent loss and the results of bacterial count in simulated packaging damage.
[0135]
[0136] The "Loss Ratio" in the table above is calculated based on the intact packaging control group; while "Bacterial Growth / Sterility" is recorded based on the culture observation results.
[0137] [Example 3: Red / Yellow / Blue as a color indicator formulation and color rendering]
[0138] The following describes an embodiment of the present invention to illustrate a representative formulation, preparation process, and spectrophotometer (UV-Vis) spectral data for configuring a color indicator (including yellow, red, and blue pigments) in a contact lens storage solution 140, and also lists the biosafety test results (cytotoxicity test and rabbit eye wearing test) of some formulations. This embodiment is for illustrative purposes only and is not intended to limit the scope of the invention.
[0139] In this embodiment, contact lens storage solutions 140 with different formulations were first prepared according to the control group C1 and experimental groups D1-D9 listed in Table 4. A borate buffer solution was used as the base solution (Bal. indicates the balance is made up to 100% by weight), and a cooling agent (represented by menthol) and a color indicator were prepared. In this embodiment, the color indicator was selected from yellow pigments (such as flavin adenine dinucleotide), red pigments (such as cyanocobalamin), and / or blue pigments (such as brilliant blue). After the formulation was completed, contact lenses 130 were placed in the solution reservoir 111 of the packaging container 110, filled with the corresponding formulation of contact lens storage solution 140, covered with a sealing film 120, and heat-sealed in the periphery sealing area 114 of the packaging container 110 to form a ring-shaped heat-sealing ring 115. Then, moist heat sterilization treatment (e.g., 125°C, 30 minutes) was performed to complete the contact lens packaging product 100 sample.
[0140] Regarding the concentration design of the color indicator, this embodiment adopts the design principle of "minimum tint" and "maximum tint": the minimum tint refers to the concentration of the color indicator being measurable by spectrophotometry and forming a recognizable absorption characteristic (e.g., a characteristic absorption peak with absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm); the maximum tint refers to the upper limit of the color indicator concentration in conjunction with the upper limit defined by biosafety assessments (e.g., cytotoxicity tests, rabbit eye wearing / irritation tests). Furthermore, since cooling agents (e.g., menthol) are usually hydrophobic components, and color indicators are mostly water-soluble pigments, the formulation design must consider the solubility and uniformity of both the cooling agent and the color indicator to avoid affecting the appearance of the solution or the consistency of measurements due to improper concentration configuration.
[0141] After packaging and sterilization, samples of each group of contact lens storage solution 140 were taken for UV-Vis measurement, and the absorption spectrum was obtained in a scanning range of, for example, 200 nm to 600 nm, and recorded as C1, D1 to D9 with Spectrum ID.
[0142] In this embodiment, the control group C1 does not contain a color indicator, can be transparent, and its UV-Vis spectrum may not show the characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs.
[0143] In contrast, experimental groups D1–D9 containing color indicators formed at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm. Some formulations (e.g., D6, D9) were further subjected to cytotoxicity tests and / or rabbit eye fitting tests, and the results are shown in Table 4.
[0144] [Table 4] Representative formulations, chromatogram numbers and safety test results of contact lens storage solutions (unit: weight %).
[0145]
[0146] It should be noted that NA in the table above indicates that no corresponding test was performed or no results were obtained; the listed formulations are representative examples and do not limit the present invention. In some embodiments, in addition to the above-mentioned single-color or two-color combinations, different concentrations of any two or three of the three colors of red, yellow, and blue can be used to adjust the hue and absorption characteristics, as long as they still meet the wavelength range and absorbance threshold conditions defined by the present invention, they fall within the scope of the present invention.
[0147] [Beneficial Effects of the Examples]
[0148] In summary, the contact lens packaging product 100 of the present invention, through the cooperation of the leakage inspection area 112 of the packaging container 110 and the sealing film 120, allows the storage liquid 140 to flow into the liquid containment space LSP formed by the leakage inspection area 112 when the sealing film 120 is damaged near the annular heat-sealing ring 115. This liquid exhibits identifiable color and spectral characteristics, thus providing a visual way to determine the packaging status without opening the package. Compared to traditional transparent packaging designs, the present invention reduces the risk of micro-leakage or heat-sealing defects being difficult to detect, and improves the convenience for users to identify the integrity of the packaging.
[0149] In some embodiments, the contact lens storage solution 140 may simultaneously contain a cooling agent and a color indicator, and the leakage detection area 112, under ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral measurement, shall have at least one characteristic absorption peak with an absorbance greater than 0.5 Abs in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 600 nm as a defining condition; in other embodiments, the characteristic absorption peak may also be formed by mixing the storage solution 140 with a colorimetric indicator. Through the formulation of the cooling agent, color indicator, or colorimetric indicator, and the control of pH and osmotic pressure, the present invention forms a corresponding design architecture in terms of structural configuration and formulation conditions.
[0150] Furthermore, the quantification of ΔE color difference can serve as another criterion for determining the packaging state, enabling the present invention to possess a multi-interpretation mechanism that combines structural color rendering, spectral interpretation, and color change over time. In summary, based on the above-described structural and material configuration, the present invention provides a visual and quantifiable packaging design method while maintaining the normal storage conditions of the contact lenses 130.
[0151] The above description is only a preferred embodiment of the present invention and does not limit the patent scope of the present invention. Therefore, all equivalent technical changes made based on the description and drawings of the present invention are included within the protection scope of the present invention.
