Description

Technical Field

[0001] This disclosure relates in its entirety to compositions for aluminum rolling and methods of using such compositions. Background Technology

[0002] Amid global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions, the growing demand for aluminum presents both new opportunities and challenges for rolling mills. Changing requirements for surface quality and metallurgical properties, the need for more sustainable operation, and ongoing pressure to reduce costs mean that the design and performance of rolling fluids are more critical than ever. Cold rolling of aluminum battery foil differs from methods used to produce other common types of foil because aluminum is harder and therefore requires greater lubrication during the rolling process. Furthermore, battery foil demands low residual oil content (high cleanliness levels) on the rolled surface to suit the downstream application of electrolyte coatings to the aluminum surface during battery manufacturing. Lubrication requirements and high surface cleanliness requirements are conflicting, as compounds providing high lubricity typically result in lower cleanliness levels, and vice versa.

[0003] There is a need in the art for an additive composition that, when added to a lubricant, provides high lubricity during aluminum rolling while limiting residual oil content on the surface of the rolled aluminum. This disclosure addresses this unmet need. Summary of the Invention
